"I’ve been using these Salonpas Pain Patch patches for a few years now. I use them for muscle pain, backache, and strains. They really do work if applied correctly to the affected area. Just make sure to apply to any pain area, but the key is to apply away from bone. Try to get as much of the muscle, back, or any other pain area as possible. Didn’t do much for me near elbow or wrist where there is little muscle, but worked wonders on shoulders, upper back, lower back, and sciatica region. I usually apply in the evening and just sleep with them on for best results. Good luck!!"

"After reading these reviews, I was quite surprised as the patches do stick to the body and do not slip off or come off on your clothes at all. Although one half does tend to flip over onto the other half when taking the plastic off, you can easily peel it back, you just need to be gentle with it. Also, stick one half to the skin before taking the other half of the plastic off, and it will lay flat. I hardly write reviews, but felt like some of the comments which have been left are unfair and would possibly put people off because they also do help with the pain!"

"There is no doubt that Salonpas patches help relieve pain. I had a twisted ankle, and they work fast and for several hours, however, they do not stick to the skin. Years ago, their patches stuck through sweat, showers, and daily activity for weeks if you forgot you had applied one! Now, they stick until you move. You can't even put a sock over one without it rolling up and falling off. I have the patches attached with Band-Aids. Seems wrong."

"I had a pulled muscle in my upper arm that hurt so bad I could not sleep for 3 days. My wife brought me these Salonpas patches, and I tried them. My experience with them is that they work wonders for muscle pain. I had the first patch on all day. Nighttime rolled around, and I replaced the old patch with a new one. Slept like a baby with no pain. The patches stuck on my arm pretty well and came off easily. They worked for me."

"I tried everything under the sun for muscle pain in lower back. How in the world could I be so blind to the facts of this patch? It is the same thing as Icy Hot, rubs, Biofreeze, Tiger Balm, and any other thing tried. How many brain cells does it take to know that this works for about five minutes, then stops? What is so special about this product to pay so much? Can anyone tell me why it’s even available? Is this some alternative to pain meds, including aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, 800 mg ibuprofen, or whatever? Considering it has methyl salicylate in it, are we made to believe that this is spectacular? I’ve purchased one box. Didn’t stick, smelled like a musty mouse, and got no relief. What a waste of $$$."

"I applied the Salonpas Pain Patch to clean and dry skin, and it seems to work if it stayed on. As much as it costs, you would think it would stick. It would be so much better if they used medical tape, then it would stick properly. Then I would use it much more. Until then, I will not buy it again."

"These new Salonpas Pain Patches don't stick very well. The old patches my parents used to purchase decades ago at the Asian market stuck really well. The menthol and smell are the same, but the redesign in the patches sucks."

"As a senior, I have the usual aches and pains typical for my age. However, I’ve been bothered by significant neck and shoulder pain, possibly caused by an old injury or a lifetime of poor posture. I’ve tried several other topical pain relievers containing lidocaine, but Salonpas has been the most effective. I’ve used the large and regular-sized patches and find them equally effective. Although it is clearly recommended not to use multiple patches, I usually use more than one at night since the area is large. This helps me to get a better night's rest, and I have had absolutely no side effects. Several reviews state the patches do not adhere well. My experience has been quite the opposite. They remain in place throughout the night."

"Annular disc tear and disc bulge 8 months ago left my neck and back really vulnerable. I injured myself again and couldn’t wake up or move. I was under Valium for the pain when a colleague offered me these. I had a great response. Better than Valium or any drug. The relief I feel is amazing..."

"The adhesive used for these particular patches works a lot better than the other comparable products on the market by far. As long as you get them on straight and unwrinkled the first time, they will stay on for virtually as long as they last, which also happens to exceed comparable products by far. Couple this with the much less expensive price, and you have three reasons why this is simply a superior product to the others. It should be noted that the one time I almost bought another name brand product similar to that of SalonPas, the pharmacist, without solicitation or knowing I had a preference, recommended I go elsewhere to find SalonPas, as they were far superior in his opinion as well."

"I've been using Salonpas for years, and it was really good, it sticks really well on my skin. But when they changed it, it sucks!! You put it on, and it comes off in seconds, plus it wastes a lot of plastic. Before, the way the patch was back to back in one plastic sheet, now, single patch in every plastic sheet, bad for the environment. What a big disappointment!! From now on, I will go for the competitor. Don't buy this Salonpas, it's a big waste of money!!"

"Nada! These patches are rubbish! They don't stick even if you're not sweating. And if you do keep them on somehow, there is no relief. I occasionally get lower back pain, and these were recommended by a nurse I know, but NOTHING happens, AND they don't stay on! Save your money."

"I pulled a muscle in my underarm. I put a Salonpas patch on the area and then sat at a table reading a book. The patch fell off within 10 minutes. I used two more separate patches, and they too fell off within 10 minutes each. I never had the opportunity to see if they actually work since mine would not even stick to clean, dry skin. They are extremely disappointing."

"These adhere very well onto clean, dry skin. Very good after a shower or bath to increase the relaxing effects while your muscles need to heal. Sometimes they're too strong for me, and I take them off early, but other days I leave them on until they stop."

"Works very well, although the odor is quite noticeable. The patches don't stick very well (especially if you're active), but medical tape will generally keep the patches attached. I've found that they stick much better if you shave the area prior to application, although I'd personally wait a day between shaving and using these patches (unless you want the world's worst case of razor burn). Medication: 9/10 Patch: 3/10, needs to be redesigned."

"I ordered Salonpas patches through Amazon, but didn't expect them to work as they were so inexpensive. I am completely amazed at how well they work for my shoulder and neck pain. They stick very well to the point that it hurts a bit taking them off. I will definitely buy more."

"Got my free sample of Salonpas Pain Patch the same day I worked 8 straight hours. I work in a vet's office in the kennel, and most days we do 20 to 30 dog baths a day. I was exhausted and sore, and I just knew I would be sore and unable to move the next day, but I applied Salonpas Pain Patch before bed and woke up ready to face another day. I would recommend this to everyone, and I will be purchasing more. Thank you for the free sample, it really works!"

"They don't even have the type of patch I used listed, but I used a capsaicin patch, and it not only did not work, felt no heat, but I got a chemical burn. Salonpas is based in Japan. They only use a company here called Noven to distribute their Japanese product. They did not want to admit their product did any wrong. I had pictures to prove this. Finally, had an attorney contact me, and I am trying to resolve my claim. Watch out for Salonpas products. They really don't care what the product does to you."

"Thanksgiving morning, I tripped going into a house and bruised my back. A day later, I went to the hospital, and they recommended Salonpas patches. Bought them and put them on my back. Within a 1/2 hour, I started feeling nauseous, and my back started burning. My lips started swelling up, and I checked my heart rate on my watch, and it was 105 at resting. My tongue started to feel funny, and I had a bad taste in my mouth. I yelled for my husband to rip them off right away and took liquid Benadryl right away. EpiPen was on stand-by. The only anaphylactic shock reaction I have is to iodine, and none of the ingredients in this say anything about iodide. Not sure what caused the reaction. I’m just glad somebody was home with me."

"I wish I could tell you if it works, but after spending 13 bucks on a package, I threw one on my shoulder, and within 5 minutes max, it became all bunched up, then fell off. Waste of money, will never use another product that they make."

"I used to purchase Salonpas patches years ago, and I never had an issue. I just recently bought 2 packs of 20, and I later started to notice that my elbow was itching and becoming more and more crusty. I removed the bandages, and now my skin looks like it's white with a rash. What's going on with this product that used to be so good and a product that I could trust? Did you change manufacturers?"

"I have a 37° curve in my spine, and when my lidocaine patches were no longer covered, I reached for Salonpas. I wore them as directed and received 2nd degree chemical burns on my back. This product should NOT be on the shelves!"

"Have had a strained hip rotator muscle for several weeks now and due to my active job being often on my feet, it's been slow to improve and after several hours and days of work quite painful to make common motions with that leg. Today at the start of my shift, I applied a small patch to the top of my thigh/hip where I experience the most intense pain, and it held in place for the whole eight hours beneath my jeans, though it had a few wrinkles by the end of the night due to my constant movement. My usual pain was much improved over this time, though not entirely absent, but I was able to do my tasks much more easily. After arriving home, I removed the patch and washed off some of the remaining stickiness with warm water and soap, and resting the leg/hip now my pain levels are much lower than they usually are after a day's work. (A 1/10 rather than a 7/10.) I can do gentle flexibility stretches with only mild twinges of discomfort."

"As these patches with lidocaine refuse to stick to the skin, they are a waste of money. They simply curl up after a short period of time, thus making them useless. Bought two boxes from Costco; one is being returned for the above reason."

"I work as a Nurse Practitioner and always thought these patches were a gimmick and never tried them until today. My back was tweaked the wrong way, and I felt immediate pain when walking in my lumbar region and had sciatica down my left leg. It was horrible. One of the PAs I worked with keeps these with her and gave me one to try. Within about 10-15 minutes, I could feel it tingling, and in another 5-10 felt relief of my symptoms. I have always treated this type of pain with Tylenol and anti-inflammatories taken orally. I was honestly shocked at the response my body had to these. I went right out and picked up a box after work. Looked up info on it and saw this site and decided to leave a review. It is worth a shot if you have pain. It worked for me."
