Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I’ve been bleeding for three weeks, heavy, nonstop, and I’m exhausted. I can barely stay awake and have experienced huge clotting. This is my first time on any kind of birth control, and it will definitely be my last. I’m so upset I could cry, the cramping has been unbearable."

Medroxyprogesterone for Amenorrhea "I hadn’t had my period since July 11, my doctor prescribed me Provera at the end of October. I had withdrawal bleeding for a week but didn’t get a period. Even 14 days after taking the medicine, my doctor prescribed me birth control pills to get my period. I took one pill, and the next day I got severe abdominal pain, vaginal pain, and cramping. I could not walk. I cried for hours and kept taking pain pills. The day after that, I started spotting, and 6 days after that, a full-blown period."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm 42 years old. I'm diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I've been struggling with this for 20 years, right after I had my son. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. I went to the doctor because I had constant bleeding, spotting, cramps, etc. The GYN made some tests, and I got polyps on the upper side of my uterus. I went for surgery and got them out. To reduce the bleeding, the doctor prescribed Provera. I took the pill as told, got my period after 7 days. The first days were fine, but the last 5 of them were heavy, with clots... It was horrible, but it helped me to stop the abnormal bleeding. Before the treatment, I was very depressed, just by not being able to leave the house without a pad was stressful. Now, I can have my life back!"

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "When I was 16, I had the worst period. Major cramps to where I couldn't go to school, bloated super bad. So my doctor recommended the shot. I got it. And since then, I've had not even the slightest spotting. And it's been 2 years. One night, the condom broke completely, and I was so worried. But I didn't get pregnant. I've gained 5-10 pounds over the course. But I for sure recommend."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "The shot is great for forgetful people like myself. Also, if you have bad cramps and/or heavy, miserable periods. I've been on the shot for almost 3 years, and it has been a good run; no period, no weight gain. However, I have absolutely NO sex drive. I feel out of touch with my body and emotions."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "Depo-Provera made my periods stop after about 7 months (amazing). It gave me relief from chronic migraines I've had for years. I only have occasional cramping now and have not gained weight. HOWEVER, the first two injections sent my moods wild. I was often extremely anxious and sad (this did go away!). I am doing great now and most importantly, I am not pregnant."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "The Depo Provera shot destroyed my body. I took the 3-month shot and gained 30 lbs within the first two months of my first (and only) shot. I have huge stretch marks from how fast I gained weight. At the time, I was very active, eating healthy, and had a high metabolism. After the weight gain, my doctor told me I am at very high risk for heart disease now. I had anxiety attacks daily, and my depression peaked for the long 3 months. My depression continued to be horrible for the following months. I have had no luck getting pregnant for the last year since I took it. After the first 3 months, I had an extremely painful period that lasted a month. The Depo Provera shot literally pumps you full of enough hormones to last for three months. I would not suggest it to anybody. Here I am over a year later, with the world's slowest metabolism, and I can’t even look at myself in the mirror without seeing all the weight I gained. It plummeted me into depression and pain that I hope no one else has to experience."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "I am 21, and since I first received the shot in January, I have been bleeding ever since. Sometimes light, sometimes like an actual period, with cramps and migraines. Also, this medicine has completely jacked up my hormones. I am angry ALL the time, ALWAYS sad. I cry every day, over the smallest issues, or for no reason. I am happy, and in a split second, I will feel very low or even have suicidal thoughts. I experience extreme mood swings and flip out on my boyfriend-coupled with less sex from the bleeding. It's very frustrating. I am hoping that this is just my body still adjusting to the medicine. I haven't had any weight gain or acne though (knock on wood)."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "So I finished my 10 treatment on the 13th of this month. Let me start by saying, oh my goodness. I really thought something was wrong with me, the cramping - the cramping was horrible, extremely painful. I missed a day of work, it was so bad. Then the bleeding, like I couldn't believe I had this much. I had to buy a second box of tampons and pads. Ughhhh. I'm on my 9th day of bleeding, and it's flowing like a faucet. I am just ready for it to go off. My goodness."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "I've been on the Depo shot for a year and a half now, and I have been bleeding ever since I took it. I have experienced a lot of weight gain and depression and tons of mood swings. You get cramps every day as if you just got your period. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like bleeding. Might work for some people, but not for me."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "I have been on this birth control since I was 16, I am now 21. I was not sexually active till 17. I didn't really have any interest in sex until I was 19, referring to sex drive. Depo was the best decision I ever made the first 3 years, then my body started having random cramps from time to time. I could be walking and I would have to stop for 2 minutes. I wouldn't move. I would have discharge. I had 2-day periods for 2 years every 3 months right before my next shot. Now I'll spot for a couple of weeks. I started at 112, now I'm 121. I never had a problem with gaining weight. I'm still not pregnant. So I'll stay on this because the pros outweigh the cons."

For Amenorrhea "I was prescribed a 10 mg dose of medroxyprogesterone for 10 days to start my cycle as we try to conceive. The 10 days were kind of weird - lots of mood swings, cramps, and headaches. By day 4, it seemed to normalize, but then it did seem to make me feel lousy days 6-8ish again. I think by the end I had just gotten used to it. I woke up with my period on day 3 of not taking it. I will say, this is one of the worst periods I have ever had (remaining positive as I’m hopeful we will conceive this cycle!). Cramps are really bad, and the flow is the heaviest it has been in years. Just a heads up!"

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was bleeding heavily for 8 months non-stop! Please don't use this method! It is absolutely horrible and ruined my life. Had major cramps, clumps and clumps of blood, wasted so much money buying thick diapers and tampons because I was bleeding that much! Initially, they put me on birth control pills to stop the bleeding, but because I requested really low dosage, it didn't do its job. I stopped taking it thinking it would mess me up even more because I'm putting more hormones in my body. I was under the impression it would go away eventually, but after 7 months of bleeding, I finally went to see a gynecologist, and she gave me higher dosage birth control pills to stop the bleeding! After a month of being on the pills, it finally stopped! Thank God! Miserable from Jan 16 to Aug 16."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "Depo as a birth control, I guess it worked, everything else just went wrong! I only had one shot and don't think I will ever go back. Within two weeks of getting the injection, I got really bad headaches, depressed, abdominal cramps, flash bleeding, vomiting, unstable gait, memory loss, my face broke out, lost a bunch of weight, optic nerve damage. I went into SVT, and the list goes on. My whole life turned upside down. So yes, it may work for some people with no side effects, but it has damaged my life."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've only had 3 shots from Dec 2014 to my last one May 2015. After the first shot, my periods stopped completely, no pain, nothing. Also took care of my cyst problems. Used to get horribly large cysts that didn't erupt properly or in a timely manner. So that has been really nice, not having to go through that pain for weeks. Second shot, still going strong, no problems, just a little boob soreness at times. Third shot, here we go - weight gain, lots of hair loss, cramps with bad shooting pain, boob soreness/pain when bending over, brown spotting to heavy brown, which I have never in my life had (I'm 30) for weeks now. Headaches, mood swings - very emotional at times. Going to the doctor 7/22/15, I might just get off the shot. #Listen to your body."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I got on the shot on October 7th, 2014. I thought it would end my periods, but I ended up bleeding every day for six months straight. My third shot, that I got on April 8th, 2015, ended the bleeding for about a month and a half, and now I'm bleeding again, and this time I'm having cramps as if I'm on my period. My next shot is on July 8th, and I will not be going through with it. The depo shot just ruins your body, I hate it."

For Amenorrhea "I lost my job because of this medicine, and I'm an epidemiologist in infectious disease medicine. It has been one hard year. Last August 2018, I took 10 mg for 5 days. The treatment was for 10 days, but I couldn't finish it because of the side effects. Landed two times at the ER. I had taken this before (age 20, 26-nothing happened, but at 29-ouch). Please be careful with hormones. I have no idea how this medicine is legal. Doctors don't ever discuss details, and then they wash their hands as if nothing happened. I warn every single female I see and have spoken to other scientists in my field about it. It's best to diet/exercise, do natural teas. Symptoms: anxiety, depression, tremors/interior buzzing 24/7, overheating body temperature, memory loss, headaches, cramping, lightheadedness, sleepiness, weakness, lack of concentration-I could go on. Save yourself from losing your job and your health."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "My experience with this medication started when I was 14 years old. I knew nothing about this medication, and I wish someone would have sat down and told me what exactly this medication does! I decided for the third time to try to get off this medication, I finally decided this time it was enough, so my last shot was October 2016. The beginning was great, I was happy-go-lucky, outgoing, had my life back after having a breast reduction. No period, no cramps, gained a few pounds, but it was worth it at the time for freedom. Now, at 23, I've been in the hospital and given three pills at once. I've soaked through over 10 pads a day and blood clots after blood clots: depression, weight gain, acne, severe cramps, dizziness, tiredness, and withdrawals from this medication."

Medroxyprogesterone for Endometriosis "I've been on Depo for almost two years now and have not had a period since I got the injection. I no longer have the debilitating cramps that I would get each month, which is a godsend. After I'm first given the shot, I have about 5-7 days of being a little more emotional than usual, but it's usually due to my hormones being balanced and changing a little, but it just means a bit of crying and basically how I used to be emotionally before a period. I have noticed that some nights I wake up with a really extreme cramp out of nowhere, but I believe that that might be an issue that's more to do with my hormone levels, etc. Either way, Depo has definitely spared me from weeks spent in bed because of the painful cramps!"

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had the new ablation treatment for heavy periods and was recommended the injection. I'm on my 2nd shot, and I won't be repeating it. I'm usually such a positive, outgoing person, and I've changed so much in 15 weeks. I never knew what anxiety felt like or what it was like to feel so down. I'm so happy to read it's not just me. I have severe cramping, constant infections, I'm sick all the time. I would have recovered by now if I had gone for a hysterectomy. I experienced very down days. I hate answering the phone. My sister said I've turned into a monster, my friends say my personality has changed. I 100% would not recommend this."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I went on the Depo in May '15 and am just about due for my next dose. I like to have a positive outlook on life, but my experience with Depo has been dreadful! The evening I got it, I started getting severe bug-like stomach cramps, shivering, and felt really unwell, this lasted for just over 2 weeks. Then, about a week later, I started bleeding and have yet to stop. On top of that, I've been losing weight, nausea, very sore breasts, bad cramping, low mood, fatigue, loss of appetite, strong sense of smell and taste (even gone off foods I used to love - almost feel pregnant in a way!), lots of migraines, and overall feel very unwell. Doctor said I've just got to wait it out. Worst decision ever - never again!"

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I got my first shot April 28th, 2015. My period was supposed to come May 10th and didn't. It was a week late, and I've been bleeding and spotting ever since. I have bad mood swings and get mad over absolutely nothing. I get cramps all day, every day, and it's so horrible. It's been almost 3 straight weeks of bleeding, sometimes heavily and other times just spotting. I don't know if it even protects against pregnancy because you can't have sex if you're constantly bleeding! I would NOT recommend this to anyone, ever. I have an appointment with my ob/gyn on Tuesday, so I hope there is some kind of solution since I have to ride this out till the end of next month!"

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "Despite reading some of the horrendous reviews and comments, I can honestly say this Depo-Provera injection was the best thing for me. I tried a few variations of the pill, which made my skin terrible. I suffer from acne, but my skin became a lot more oily and harder to manage while on the pill. I had the injection for 4 years, and my periods stopped almost immediately. I experienced no cramping, no spotting, I didn’t really notice any drastic change in my mood, neither did my partner. I worried a lot about conceiving, as I had read that it can take almost a year for things to return to normal, and my partner and I got married in September 2018 and had discussed a baby for many years prior to getting married. My final shot ran out in October (after our honeymoon), and on the 4th of January 2019, I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant with our first baby! She is now 7 weeks old. The injection was marvelous for me, and I am hoping to recommence the injection now that my body is settling back to normal."

Medroxyprogesterone for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've been on Depo for 6 months now, it's almost time to get my third shot. After my very first shot, I had no bleeding at all for two months, just random cramps that were kind of annoying. Then, at the third month, I spotted very lightly for a week, then bled normally for about a week, then bled really, really heavy for a few days. Then it stopped, and I got my second shot. Two and a half months with no bleeding after the second one, then spotted lightly for over a week and no heavy bleeding. It seems to get better, so I can't wait for the bleeding to stop completely. Also, the only other side effect I have noticed is increased nervousness/anxiety. I have had a few anxiety attacks at night, and I thought I was having a heart attack, but it was nothing."

Medroxyprogesterone for Birth Control "Pros: Effective (always was on time for my injection). No period. No more PMS. Cons: Cramping on and off throughout a year on Depo shot. Gained 50 pounds within a year. Raised blood pressure. Nervousness and dizziness."
