Medroxyprogesterone "I am a 64-year-old woman who is 15 years post-menopausal. A polyp was removed from my cervix. I had an ultrasound of the uterus with a biopsy. The biopsy came back okay, and the lining of the uterus measurement was 15. Ultrasound showed probably a polyp. I had a hysteroscopy with D&C and the removal of a polyp. The gynecologist would like to do a hysterectomy. Since my test results came back as simple hyperplasia, my insurance questioned that suggestion. I was put on Provera 10 mg for the protocol of 90 days. I repeated the ultrasound and biopsy. Ten days after taking Provera, I started spotting light bleeding. A week later, I had a heavy period with large clots. My doctor prescribed Lysteda for 5 days, blood work, then back on Provera. No thank you. I am exhausted! I am struggling with my concentration, worrying about being able to change my pads before leakage, and feeling tired and weak, with headaches and chills. I won't take Provera or Lysteda. I am done with my uterus and had all this trouble. I don't want any more drugs. Hysterectomy time!"

Medroxyprogesterone "After bleeding vaginally very heavily for 12 weeks, I was finally diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia and put on 5 mg Provera once a day. I'm supposed to take it for 6 months and then go back for another biopsy. It took about 3 weeks, but the bleeding stopped. But only for about 2 weeks. Then it started back. It's not as heavy as it was, but I'm still steadily bleeding! It's been another 4 weeks now. My doctor just isn't listening. He just keeps saying, 'Some spotting can be expected during what would be your normal cycle...' This is NOT JUST spotting, and it doesn't stop!! I don't know if I'm not taking enough, since I'm seeing a lot of people have been prescribed 10 mg/twice a day, or what, but he won't increase my dosage, so I don't know what else to do. I'm just so sick of bleeding!!"

Medroxyprogesterone "This drug Provera is a nightmare. I have a pacemaker, and it made my heart beat so fast, plus the chills to the point your teeth are chattering, the bloating, nausea, and sick headache. I told all this to my gyno, to which I got told just keep taking them. Medication should not make you sicker. I have stopped taking them and feel much better. I have tried three goes with them, the same thing happens. Now I'm getting a second opinion and to see if there's a natural way to go."

Medroxyprogesterone "I had hyperplasia last year, as well as endometriosis, which I had surgery for. First, I was prescribed the Prometrium pills. Had great effects. Stopped taking that and was irregular again. Then I started bleeding and didn't stop for 36 days, and it was heavy. We decided on the shot because I wanted added birth control. I suffer from bipolar disorder, and anything with estrogen is horrid. Two days after the shot, I stopped bleeding! Some mild cramping, a bit moody, and weird dreams, but overall great! I think it works best if you are lacking progesterone."

Medroxyprogesterone "I started hemorrhaging in July 2019. Provera 10 mg twice a day stopped the bleeding and the clots within a week. But my anxiety (for which I am on medication) is 10 times worse. And it makes me irritable and mean! I HATE the person I become on this medication!"

"I am 32 y/o. I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries and have always been very irregular with my periods to the point of going for 5 to 6 months with not even a drop of blood. Recently, my doctor found abnormal cells in my uterine lining, he prescribed medroxyprogesterone for 3 months, 1 pill daily. I am done with the treatment now, and during the 3 months, I got my period 2 times only. Overall, I felt fine-no major side effects. I only felt a little dizziness and a few headaches. I also put on some weight, but with exercise, I have managed. I feel great and can't wait to see the results of my next biopsy."

"I was diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia. No symptoms other than a heavy period and a little spotting between. I took medroxyprogesterone for 3 months. My anxiety was elevated, however, I'm unsure if it was the stress of the situation or the pills. I had one headache per month, usually around the time I would get my period, but it went away after 2 days. Second biopsy, great news. My lining is thinned. So far, so good."

Medroxyprogesterone "I was prescribed Medroxyprogesterone for endometrial hyperplasia, and wow! This medication is making me so sick. I’m supposed to take it twice a day for 10 days, but I couldn’t handle such a high dosage, so I only take one. I have high blood pressure as well, so it really spikes it up. The bleeding has stopped for now, I’m only five days in. Just can’t take the way I feel after taking this pill."

Medroxyprogesterone "I had a D&C to check for uterine cancer following bleeding/brown discharge after menopause and endometrial hyperplasia. The doctor put me on Provera three months ago, but the discharge has only gotten worse. I'm supposed to have another D&C in December to see if the Provera has reversed the hyperplasia, but instead, I'm going to discuss a hysterectomy with the specialist, as clearly this is not working, and I don't want to increase the dose due to the risk of blood clots."

"I was prescribed this following heavy postmenopausal bleeding, D&C, normal biopsies. Heavy bleeding continued post D&C. Had tried bioidentical progesterone and had horrible side effects (felt like I had the flu, body aches, headache, nausea, insomnia, depression, etc.). Medroxyprogesterone worked great to stop the bleeding. It also helped me sleep, which the bioidentical not only did not, but in fact gave me insomnia. I tried going back to the bioidentical for an increase in BDNF benefit and decreased risk of stroke and other cardiovascular concerns. Got same flu-like symptoms when I traded medroxyprogesterone for bioidentical. My body votes no on bioidentical, but yes for medroxyprogesterone."
