"I was plugged for more than a week. I tried Miralax, docusate, Milk of Magnesia, and fiber. Got nothing. The cause was opiates unbeknownst to me. The doctor said to try magnesium citrate. Forty-five minutes later, all systems go. I've been in the 'oval office' off and on for a few hours, but I'll take it. I did not feel good before."

"I took this at 9:30, and by 12:30, I woke up and it was time to go! I had been constipated for 8 days, and I'm ten weeks pregnant. The doctor said it was safe, so... but man, oh man... be careful because it turns your stool to nothing but liquid."

"I'm not normally constipated, very rarely, and if I just drink coffee or more water. This time, something was different about this constipation. My stool wouldn't budge. I could feel it at the bottom of my anus, but the stool just wouldn't come out. I took a stool softener/laxative. It didn't work overnight, mild movement, but I still could not produce a stool. Do yourself a favor and go to the drug store and get magnesium citrate. I was very uncomfortable, grinding my teeth. I took this within 15 minutes of purchase, I drank half of it, as noted by the doctor, and it started working immediately and wonderfully."

"Ever since I was diagnosed with IBS, I try to avoid dairy so I won't explode like I am now. Clearly, I have an issue with it. Well, for whatever reason, as of late, dairy consumption has constipated me to high heaven. Decided, after a week and a half of frustratingly small bowel movements and a ton of straining, it was time to drink the 'poop juice,' as I call it. Within 45 minutes, I had to sprint to the bathroom, and my God, didn't think I'd make it in time. It's now been a few hours, and I only really left the bathroom twice. Found it easier to just stay on the toilet. I'm now reading everyone's reviews because I needed something to pass the time, and these are usually hilarious! If the poop juice doesn't work for you, go to a doctor or ER!!"

"A few months ago when I had knee surgery, the immobility and opioids stopped me up for about 5 days, even with laxatives. Only 2 saline enemas could clear me up. This time around, despite not having those same factors, I was also constipated for about a week. When I tried an enema again, somehow it didn't work-pretty sure the liquid itself didn't even come back out. So my gastro recommended this magnesium citrate instead. I took the whole 10 oz bottle (lime) along with about 16 oz of water over the course of 40 min. Within less than an hour of me finishing, I began to 'pee out of my butt.' It was very relieving to finally get poop out and not have to worry about an intestinal blockage. Definitely heed the warnings about staying close to a toilet and getting yourself nice products for your butt. The amount of pooping I have been doing for 6+ hours now has my butt on fire! But I think it's worth it for the constipation relief."

"This is the second time I took magnesium citrate for my constipation in the past 4 or so months. I had a fecal impaction both times and just couldn’t get it to pass. I took the smallest dosage (6.5, maybe even closer to 6) at 5 am after not being able to go for a few days. I have IBS, so I normally go 2-5 times a day, usually, so not being able to go for a few days was making me very worried and uncomfortable. I tried Miralax, but it didn’t do much for the impaction. Anyway, it’s now 9 am, and it worked enough for me to be able to pass the impaction. Sweet relief! I do not have major cramping or anything right now, although I do anticipate needing to go to the bathroom frequently as the magnesium citrate goes through my system. I wanted it so I could pass the fecal impaction, and this did the trick. Pro tip: be kind to your body and do not take the full amount! I try to take as little as possible just to get things moving, and it did the trick."

"So, the taste (doctor recommended the lemon flavor, but I'm feeling like I should have gone with cherry instead) is similar to that of rancid vinegar. As soon as I chugged the 10 oz bottle, I began feeling really sick to my stomach. I even vomited. After about 30 minutes to an hour, I decided I had enough. My stomach started churning, and before I knew it, I was running to the bathroom. I stayed glued to the toilet seat for a good hour. Basically rinse and repeat that for the duration of 5 or 6 hours. The remainder of the medicine just leaves my stomach feeling terrible and noisy. Good medicine, bad side effects."

"So as of right now, I'm sitting in the bathroom making this review. I started this whole thing yesterday. I got a bottle for $0.98 at Wally World. I drank a little less than half, waited 6 hours, nothing. I drank the other half about 3 am, fell asleep. Nothing all day till about 2:45. I think the part of the impaction that was blocking me is out, now it's just cleaning me ALL THE WAY OUT. I dislike the part of in and out of the restroom. Me sitting here is doing nothing. I have to move around to keep it coming. So let's hope it's all out. Lol, I would say this is pretty good stuff if you're impacted or constipated, but go ahead and just drink the whole bottle and get it done and over with instead of drinking half and waiting."

"Lemon magnesium citrate was very good when I was blocked up. Instructed to take the entire bottle for a cleanout. I had no problem as it was easy to take due to such a good flavor. No side effects at all. Took an hour and a half to start the process and finished after 4 to 5 hours. This was a one-time thing prescribed by my doctor."

"Was constipated for 5 days after taking prescribed narcotics for bruised ribs. Doctor recommended it. Didn't taste half bad and drank a glass of water after. Didn't feel anything for about 5 hours, then my stomach felt gassy and then boom. So much relief, and I didn't have to push too hard (since my ribs are bruised)."

"Started a new medication about a month ago, and it has caused constipation as a side effect. For 8 days in a row, I was unable to go #2, and I was starting to feel pretty awful. Found magnesium citrate on Amazon with really high reviews. Was nervous to use it because people said it could be really harsh on the tummy. I drank 1/2 bottle (cherry flavor) and was cramping in my abdomen 22 minutes later (I didn't realize it needed to be taken on an empty stomach, oops). 8 minutes or so later, the cramps lifted a little, and I had my first BM. It wasn't easy, just loose. Super glad I didn't drink the entire thing because it worked right away for me. Phew. Will use again in case of emergency."

"I was constipated for 2 days. Had the urge to go, but the stool would not budge! I was having so much anxiety and abdominal discomfort, I just wanted to cry. Ran out to Walgreens to buy a bottle of the grape version. Downed around 8 oz of the bottle around 12:30 pm with a big glass of water. Went to bed, and around 4:30 am I woke up with the urge to go. I ended up straining and only pooping out a little pellet. Disappointed and nauseous, I went back to sleep. Woke up at around 8 am, drank the rest of the 10 oz bottle with another glass of water, and about 30 minutes after that my tummy began to gurgle, and I had the urge to go. I pushed just a little and boom! Feeling so much better! MC for the win!!"

"I'm a person that goes religiously .. (literally 3x a day or more) .. So I was stopped up for 4 days. You can imagine, I was in HELL. I texted my father in desperation at 2 am asking for advice .. He didn't respond, but he showed up to my house the next day (6/29/15) with a bottle of cherry-flavored MC. When he told me I had to drink the entire thing, I damn near cried. I took it at about 6 pm & by 7:30, I was feeling gurgling in my stomach & literally 15 minutes afterwards, I went to the bathroom & immediately started feeling better .. Unfortunately, I'm currently over here cautious as hell about passing any type of gas .. I should be good by 6 am though. I think 12 hours is more than enough time. MC is definitely a good choice."

"I have always struggled with constipation. I also can’t eat gluten and get pretty sick when I do, so I use this if I accidentally eat some. So I’ve gotten it down to a T. 1. Get 2 tubes of bum ointment. Trust me, you will thank me later! 2. Get some cheap baby wipes (or flushable ones like Charmin) 3. Get some books or make sure your phone/tablet is charged. 4. Get Gatorade or something hydrating. Make sure all your supplies are convenient and by the toilet. Take the day off of work. I couldn’t imagine going downstairs while on this, let alone the car. I like the lemon flavor. I put it over a lot of ice and drink quickly with a straw. I take a whole 10 oz, but I like to make sure it’s all out so... with me, there’s no cramping. Just some gurgles and intense urges. No pain. It also takes about 10 hours for it to work (for me! Others, it takes 10 minutes, so leave a long window open for staying home). This is the only thing that helps with me."

"I've had a sluggish bowel due to medication, I tried all sorts of laxatives, even enemas, with no results. This is the best stuff to clean you out. I have to take the whole bottle for it to work, I've tried just half the bottle, no success with that. But, with 1 bottle and about 8 hours, this does the trick. I use it about once a month."

"I used this for constipation. I drank an entire 10 oz. bottle around 4 p.m., then had several glasses of water. I had very mild cramping and lots of stomach sounds all evening/night. No BM until the following morning around 9 a.m. Diarrhea, but no cramps. Had 1 more episode of diarrhea, but not a lot. Still feel a little constipated and quite bloated, though. I am a 125 lb. female, so I thought, especially after reading other reviews, that I would have a very strong reaction from this stuff. It worked OK, but nothing crazy for me."

"This stuff will get you out of a jam!! Like many other commenters on this site, I write from the porcelain throne, after researching for hours whether or not this stuff is for me. I drank the entire bottle of Cherry MC. Then I drank a bottle of water (this part was hard, I was pretty nauseated). The water is what works it down! It took two or three hours to work for me. Since beginning this journey, it's been almost 11 hours, and I'm still going strong. Scared to drink more water because this girl is on fire. I don't want to keep going, but I need to stay hydrated. I feel relief from constipation, only to be met with the burning of liquid fire gushing out of my bum. Worth it. Baby wipes, water, and A&D are a must to ride this ride."

"I have a history of constipation. A permanent injury years ago forces me to have to take high doses of pain medication, plus I have an implanted pain pump. I've also had double hernia surgery and have IBS, so sometimes pooping can be a big problem. I started taking magnesium citrate softgels a few months ago, and they really seem to help a lot. Prior to taking them, I was having to take Pericolace tablets, Dulcolax, as well as use a glycerin suppository, and still had issues going. But now, as long as I take the MC softgels daily and drink adequate water, all goes according to plan. I have in the past had colon preps and had to drink the MC liquid, and YUCK LOL, so the soft gel or capsules are the way to go for me."

"I've been backed up for a little over a week. I have chronic constipation, and normally an enema gets the job done when I can't. Yesterday, I tried an enema. The only thing that came out was the enema contents and about 3 jelly bean size and shape poos. Today, I went to the pharmacy and asked the pharmacist what works best and told her about the failed enema. She recommended MC. It was 97 cents, I got the lemon one. The taste wasn't great. Like salty Sprite. I took a 10 oz bottle at 10:30 am, drank water, and went for a nap. It started gurgling right away, but that was it. Until about 1 pm, the first explosion had lots of solids with the massive amount of liquid poo. But I could still feel a large mass stuck. After 4 hours resting between destroying my toilet, I added another enema. They worked together great and removed the large mass. It's been 6 hours, and I haven't pooed in 20 minutes, and the gurgle has stopped. I'm climbing into bed to rest. I need it. Luckily, my bathroom is close if I need it."

"I had been very constipated since I started dieting and losing weight. I was hardly pooping at all, and it was making my stomach feel very uncomfortable. I started taking Miralax, but that takes days to work for me. So, for immediate relief, I picked up some Mag citrate. I drank the whole 10-ounce bottle, lemon flavor. It tasted tolerable but not great. After 2 hours, still no results, so I drank 3 big glasses of water, and bam, after 10 more minutes, I was on the toilet. This WILL give you watery diarrhea, so be prepared, but the relief is amazing."

"So if you are like me, something as simple as using the restroom can become quite a scary event. I've heard so many people talk about 'picking the stuff out of their ass' and I about threw up! I have been taking the usual go-to products like milk of magnesia, Miralax, mineral oil, Dulcolax, stool softeners, and basically every over-the-counter thing you can imagine for some relief. Without fail, MAGNESIUM CITRATE is a GODSEND! I am a bigger guy, so I have to drink 2 bottles and a ton of water, but IT WILL WORK! The first initial poop might hurt, but after that blockage goes, it's smooth sailing. I would MUCH RATHER sit on the toilet with diarrhea than STRAIN AND BE IN THE WORST PAIN OF MY LIFE every time I try to poop. THANK GOD FOR THIS PRODUCT."

"I have been constipated for 6 days. It seemed there was no relief in sight for me. I took stool softener/laxative for a few days without any results. I then bought Exlax and took 4 pieces at one time. No result. I went to the ER as my stomach was hurting all up the sides and middle. The Dr. recommended magnesium citrate and told me to drink the entire bottle. I went to Family Dollar and it only was $1.25. I ate a sandwich prior to drinking. I drank the grape-flavored magnesium citrate at 8:00 PM with 16 ounces of water. After a few hours, I was still in a lot of pain and didn't feel anything happening. I couldn't even pass gas. At 1:30 AM, it started. It is now almost 3:00, and I am still going. Not sure how long this will last but I feel great!!"

"I have had approximately 14 feet of my small bowel removed along with half of my descending colon. I also have IBS, but instead of having short bowel syndrome, I stay constipated. I can't strain, I've had all muscle removed from my abdomen. I feel like I can never finish my bowel movements, and at times I'll not go for a week. I don't think it tastes bad at all. I got the lemon-lime for $1, grabbed a can of Sprite, and proceeded. I didn't drink but a quarter of the bottle and chased it with the Sprite. Within about three hours, I finally had some relief!! I'm just going to continue using it twice a week or so. And actually, the kind I bought tasted like Sprite, carbonated. It worked better than liquid suppositories!!"

"My antidepressants and thyroid problem make it extremely hard to go to the restroom every day. I chug this down, and after about 15-30 minutes, it starts. Pros: gets rid of everything, it seems, instant relief. Cons: taste makes me gag, and my stools come out very watery (probably normal), but this goes on until the next day for me, sort of embarrassing being over at a friend's and having to use the restroom. I suggest you take it in the morning to prevent this from happening."

"I took Magnesium Citrate (about 7 oz) before I went to bed and woke up ready to release. This is very effective, though it can take a while, and personally, it was pretty hard to down the bottle. The taste isn't bad, I actually kind of liked it, but it was very sweet and stayed in my mouth, not anything too discomfiting, however. Overall, this works like a charm, but it can be hard to swallow and works slower than other medications for constipation."
