For Birth Control "I got my Liletta IUD placed in October 2017, and yes, the insertion 100% sucked. However, that lasted only about 5 minutes. I cramped a bit and put a heating pad on me for that night, but was completely fine the next day. Over time, I realized that I haven’t experienced any mood swings, headaches, or weight gain! I actually lost weight, and I am so happy that I don’t have to take a pill, and I love even more that it doesn’t have estrogen in it. More importantly, no baby! I check the wire a few times a month (out of habit) and learned about my body better. I honestly love this birth control. Liletta is by far the best BC I’ve ever had. The ONLY con for me is that my man can feel the wire when we’re intimate, and it sometimes hurts him to the point that he has to stop. I’ve been told it’ll soften up... but it hasn’t. Still, best BC otherwise."

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta IUD in July 2017. At first, it was great, but I started noticing a little weight gain a few months after I got it. No big deal because I was only 119, a few pounds didn't bother me. Fast forward to a year later, I am now 150 pounds. I feel sluggish, constant cramping, no sex drive, and the list goes on and on. Let me remind you, never in my life have I been more than 125 pounds. Even when I was pregnant, I stayed down to about 150 pounds. I finally got it taken out! I'm excited to see if I lose the weight."

For Birth Control "I spotted on the Liletta for 6 months, I still spot after sex now, and I think now my sex drive has gone way down. I feel dry and uncomfortable. My weight has also gone way up since May of 2016 when I had it placed, and while my activity levels are a little less than usual, my food habits are the same (perhaps better), but I've gained 30 pounds, and it's been impossible to lose that weight. I've been beating up myself about it, but I think it's not me, because I've always exercised intermittently (2-3 times/week). I also feel depressed and have little to no drive. I find small tasks extremely difficult and have very low confidence. I'm taking the Liletta out in a week or so, and I'll update this if I see that this is what has been causing it. I hope it's not because of this. I have not had periods for the last 1.5 years (I used to get very painful periods), and it's been a welcome relief."

For Birth Control "I have now had the Liletta for 6 months and will be getting it removed in a few days. Since insertion, I have experienced a plethora of side effects: insomnia, cystic acne, anxiety, breast tenderness, weight gain, brain fog (I can't even remember what I had for breakfast), headaches, mood swings, hot flashes, and night sweats. It is just not worth it to me anymore. I have done some research on the Paraguard and have decided that I don't want to risk using it either. I will stick with condoms and planning around my cycle. My family doctor was reluctant to schedule my removal and claims that these side effects are not related to the IUD. I 100% disagree. Please do some research and some serious thinking before choosing this option. I look forward to getting my body back to normal, sounds like I will have a bit of an uncomfortable detox before that happens."

For Birth Control "I had Mirena inserted in 2011 due to endometriosis, which is aggravated by estrogen, so an IUD was the way to go at the time. Did not have any problems whatsoever. No weight gain or skin problems. Absolutely nothing. My 5 years with Mirena ended. I had Liletta inserted July 2016 only because my doctor suggested it. BIG MISTAKE! I have gained almost 30 lbs. I work out, watch what I eat, and any other thing you can think of to lose weight. I'm STILL gaining, and I now have really bad acid reflux because of it! It reminds me of the Depo experience I had years ago. On top of the extreme weight gain, my skin looks like I'm going through puberty. Heck, my skin wasn't this bad during puberty! Not to mention the never-ending cramps! Got to get it out ASAP!"

For Birth Control "I had the Liletta IUD inserted two months ago. Insertion was very painful, but the experience took 5 minutes altogether. The pain following didn't last longer than a day. So far, I've noticed my periods last a lot longer, before the IUD, they would last 5 days. Now they last 8-10. I also spot almost every single day. Both of these things are manageable, but if I wasn't single, this would interfere with my sex life. Benefits: I don't get crazy mood swings like I used to on the pill, and I don't have a lot of hair growth on my body, it seems like my hair doesn't grow as fast. Cons: I'm very frustrated this month because I've developed cystic acne along my left jaw, cheek, and forehead, and I can't lose weight, whereas before I could."

For Birth Control "I got Liletta inserted on November the second. I cramped, but I was fine. I have two kids, I got pregnant while on Skyla. I thought to give this a try since it has a higher hormone amount. I have been on my period now for 4.5 weeks, it's been relatively light. Nothing crazy at all, and no cramping. But now it's even more blood. My husband and I have had sex (he could care less about getting me pregnant or not). So far, I'm not pregnant. So I guess it's doing its job. But I haven't had acne, no weight gain, no change in skin... just this dang long period. But I'll give myself a longer time to see how it does."

For Birth Control "I got Liletta in February. The insertion hurt a little, but not too bad, and it only lasted a couple of minutes (I took ibuprofen 20 minutes before). I was not on my period when I had it inserted. I only had cramping for like 20 minutes after, and it was just in my legs. My first period after getting the IUD lasted for a little over 3 weeks and would switch between spotting and heavy bleeding. Since then, my period comes on the same day every month and is very light (fingers crossed it just goes away). I usually can get away with just wearing a liner. I do get leg cramps every time I have a period now, though. Usually, ibuprofen will make them go away. I haven't had weight gain or acne, but I am super emotional now. More than I've ever been."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted almost 10 months ago, and I’m still bleeding/spotting every day - which is ironic because I got Liletta to help me with heavy periods. I did not experience weight gain, however, I can’t seem to lose weight either (I am 39 years old, 5’1.5, 130 lbs). I went to have it removed, and my OB couldn’t find the string. It’s been a nightmare for me."

For Birth Control "So, the insertion process for those who haven't gone through it was extremely painful for me. I passed out twice, and the pain lasted two weeks, but right now it's all good. I do like the freedom it gives me to have sex with my boyfriend without a condom. However, recently I haven't been able to lose weight. I go to the gym for about an hour and a half a day, and yet the weight is sticking to me like glue. Also, I've gained 4 pounds since I got it (three weeks ago). I don't like the weight gain at all, and if it continues I might get it removed. That was a big worry for me when talking to my doctor, and even though the IUD is a great form of birth control, I'm on a weight loss journey, and this is causing a lot of issues."

For Birth Control "I've gotten this IUD after I gave birth to my second child. The procedure was painful yet bearable to a certain extent depending on how you can tolerate pain. The first couple of months were great, and I was happy with it. Very effective until my almost three-month mark of having the blasted thing. My whole persona changed. It started to affect my sex life negatively, my emotions, and don't get me started on the 50 lbs weight gain that is still hard to shed after having it removed due to it triggering my migraines for some odd reason. After having it removed, I got my period the following week and strangely another one the week after but shorter. This is my second month since having the IUD removed and nearly two weeks late on my period. All of my HPT (home pregnancy tests) came back negative, but there were still no signs of my period showing up. I assumed it could be my body still adjusting to not having the IUD and taking its precious time returning to normal."

For Birth Control "Got it 12/19/17. Very negative experience. I had a very heavy flow and very painful cramps, so went for Liletta. Insertion was SO painful. I continued to have cramps all day and for the next few days. Still have random cramps and spot EVERY DAY. Got BV, and spotting isn't always light, it can be very heavy. Used to have high libido: 3 weeks in, I LOST my sex drive. I RARELY get slithers of sexual desire, but they subside very quickly. Am in a new relationship, and I'm SO attracted to him, but still NO sex drive, and I used to orgasm very easily. It's harder now, and for the 1st time: vaginal dryness, extreme mood swings, and depression. Broke down 3 weeks in. Everything overwhelming, most emotional I have ever been. I have a mass increase in anxiety. Beware if you are prone to mental health issues. Constant headaches, and the 1st time I got my period on the IUD could NOT move = cramp pain. Gained 10 lb the 1st month, caused stretch marks for 1st time. Tomorrow I am finally getting it out. Will update y'all. Pros: Not pregnant."

For Birth Control "I've had the Liletta for 9 months and have gained 50 lbs. Other than weight gain, I have had no issues. My husband, however, hates the “string.” It's not a sting like the doctor tells you. It is a wire. It gave me anxiety to even feel it when I checked it, so I just leave it alone. I'm having it removed in a few days because I can not deal with this weight gain."

For Birth Control "I got Liletta in July of 2016, and I was warned that it would hurt from a friend, but it hurt so much. It was pain that I have never experienced. After it was all done, I almost couldn't walk. But after that, it was fine. It was great, I don't have a period anymore, but I've gained over 50 pounds, and I have so much ache. I hate having it so much. I'm actually getting it out at the end of this month."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted May 2016. I'm 43 years old. Insertion was not too bad, a bit painful when they put the clamps on your uterus to hold it open, and I guess my opening is a bit small since I have never given birth naturally (C-section), so the doc had to jiggle it to get it in. Anyway, here we are 12 months later, and I have bled almost every day since. I've put on 10 lb, and I am eating and exercising as I have done for a long period of time. I am reluctant to remove it because the thought of getting it out is not appealing, and my insurance didn't cover it, so I paid around $900 to get it put in and don't want to waste that money."

For Birth Control "I had a history of very heavy periods, and a coworker suggested an IUD as birth control because it helped her periods (she didn't have one at all!). Insertion was very painful for a short period of time. I delivered 2 babies without pain medication, and I'd say it was equivalent to a very strong contraction for about 1 minute. After insertion, I had irregular spotting for a month or so. I was hoping for a lighter period since mine was making me anemic. My period stayed the same! The IUD strings poked my husband during sex too. They trimmed them, but it still happens. In one year, I've gained 15 lbs, have worse anxiety and depression, and my skin is terrible. I'm getting it out soon and getting a uterine ablation and my tubes tied."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta put in immediately after having Mirena removed (literally within a few minutes). I had thought I was getting Mirena replaced with Mirena, but they didn't tell me until it was already out that they didn't carry Mirena at Planned Parenthood where I live. This was January of 2021. It is now February of 2022, and I have gained more than 40 pounds despite working on my eating and workout habits. On Mirena, I never had a period (for 6 years!), and now I spot monthly. It's been progressively getting worse. I never dealt with cramps on Mirena, but now I feel that awful pain. I began really noticing changes 4-6 months in regarding my moods. I thought it was just stress and tried to put it off, but I'm now having crazy mood swings. I'll be angry and emotional out of nowhere. I feel bad for the people in my life because this is not me, and I am not like this. It never occurred to me that it could be from my birth control, but now I know better."

For Birth Control "I had the Liletta put in July (almost 3 months ago) with the initial insertion, a sharp and intense pain. I had about a week of intense pressure or cramp-like symptoms. I have had a constant light period, acne on my forehead (which I never have had), and weight gain. I'm not sure if this IUD is best suited for me at this point. I will call my doctor and ask her opinion."

For Birth Control "I swapped my Mirena IUD for Liletta because that’s all my OB/GYN offered. I was told the two are the same. I was frustrated that I was not informed I would be given a different IUD until I was sitting in the chair for my procedure. Like many others here, the pro has been that I haven’t gotten pregnant, but I’m experiencing weight gain, face acne, and sensitive skin on my face (face wash products I’ve always used now burn and irritate my skin), and I’ve got painful cramps days before my period and longer periods. I might take it out, especially seeing these reviews. I miss my Mirena. Also, my libido is ridiculously low. No clue if it’s all related to Liletta or what, but these are definitely changes."

For Birth Control "I've had Liletta for about 3 months now (31 yrs old). I was on the pill for over 10 years, then suffered a blood clot and was taken off the pill immediately. The IUD insertion was painful, and I was very crampy for the rest of the day. I then bled for about a week. Since then, no periods (yet!), and I barely have any cramping at all. I have been more bloated, and I've gained some weight, but it might just be that I'm retaining more water. I work out frequently, and I haven't changed my diet, so maybe I will balance out in a couple of months. I have also had more days feeling depressed, but again, I hope this balances out in a couple of months since I am dealing with my blood clot anxiety as well. These side effects seem inconsequential compared to the risk of blood clots with the pill or the risk of pregnancy without any!"

For Birth Control "I have had Liletta for about 2 years now. I got it in November 2018. The insertion felt like a cramp. It's been amazing so far - I did gain weight and bigger boobs, but that wasn't until quarantine, so I couldn't tell if that was due to Liletta. I do have lighter periods and less cramps. I feel drained of energy sometimes. Recently, I feel I got my sex drive back, at first, I had low sex drive for a while, and suddenly I feel my libido is back. I haven't gotten pregnant or experienced any pain. So far, so good, but everyone's bodies are different."

For Birth Control "I had the Liletta IUD for about 7 months. Now I have acne, nonstop weight gain (about 40 pounds), my hair I noticed it falling out nonstop as well (it’s legitimately everywhere in the house). It’s seriously a waste of time and money. I’m having it removed tomorrow, and it’s going to cost me $150 just to remove it. What a freaking nightmare."

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta inserted 11 months ago. No kids. It did hurt when they put it in, but only for a few minutes, and then I had intermittent cramping for a few days, for which I took Aleve and put a heating pad on my tummy. I had intermittent cramping for a few months, mostly before my period, which now lasts half a day (down from 7 days). I have gained 15 pounds, though, even though I exercise every day and eat really healthy. My face also breaks out, like a teenager's face. But I do like not having to worry about getting pregnant."

For Birth Control "I have had this IUD in since 10/2018. I originally had the Paragard in since 2010. When I talked with my gynecologist, she recommended the Liletta to stop or slow down my periods. Sure enough, I have not had a period since 11/2018, and it’s 3/2021. Yes, I did gain 5 lbs, but I have lost it since the initial gain. I have 2 more years and no complaints here."
