For Birth Control "I just want to start by saying that I completely understand that everybody is different. And my body did not like this IUD. I have had this IUD in for almost exactly one year, and after about 4 months of having it in, I noticed I was now getting cystic acne, I had gained 15 pounds, my depression and anxiety have been out of control, and I am extremely fatigued all of the time. I literally thought I was going crazy on this medication, so I booked an appointment to get it taken out, which is happening in two weeks! I cannot wait until this thing is out of me and I can go back to feeling like a normal person again."

For Birth Control "I heard from a bunch of mom friends that IUDs were the way to go and really not very painful at all, especially after you've had kids. Well, after a stupid amount of research, I had it inserted on February 24th, 2017. It's March 7th, 2017, and I have not stopped bleeding. The procedure was very painful for me, but it was quick. My husband came with too. I don't think I could have driven myself afterward. I did take ibuprofen as suggested an hour before, and I have had two normal vaginal births of 8-pound boys. Also, I have a bunch of piercings, tattoos, and broken bones. Thought I had a high pain tolerance. I've been having mood swings and hot/cold sweats. Irritable, crying, sad mainly. I'm thinking about removing it at the 4-week check-up. No sexy time yet :("

For Birth Control "I’ve been on the Liletta for a little over two years, much longer than I should have! I love it for the convenience, but that’s the only good thing about it! I’ve never in my life been overweight, but since I’ve got this thing, I’ve gained 30 lbs!! This is the heaviest I’ve been all my life. Aside from that, I’m constantly moody, angry, and depressed. I’m in constant fatigue and feel like I need a nap every day. I didn’t think these effects were because of the IUD, but with further research, I found that there are a ton of women with similar experiences. I will make an appointment to get this thing out of me ASAP!!!"

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta IUD inserted 3 months ago to this date, and over that time period, I have felt my mood become destroyed. At first, I was just a little moody and irritable, but now I am so uncontrollably anxious and depressed I can't really function like normal. Panic attacks out of nowhere (which I never used to have), and just some really dark thoughts that make me feel crazy. This is not like me at all. I am normally so upbeat and happy, and this has just made me a mess. Some weeks I would feel fine, so I would convince myself, 'oh, it's just something else that's causing this anxiety.' But on month three, I feel so far from my normal mental state. My sex drive was all over the place, and the bleeding was almost nonstop for the first two months. But that is nothing compared to the way it has mentally affected me. If you are sensitive to drugs at all, you should not get this IUD."

For Birth Control "My first year was okay - the only symptom I noticed was extra cramping when I would normally get my period. It was painful, but typically only lasted 1-2 days/month. I had super heavy and painful periods prior, so the 1-2 day struggle without bleeding felt like a relief. I experienced no weight gain year 1. Years 2-3 have been absolutely terrible. It’s like one day the IUD flipped into overdrive. The worst symptom has been the extreme anxiety/depression. Having panic attacks almost daily, suicidal thoughts, and just don’t even feel like I’m in my body. I’ve struggled with anxiety throughout my life, but nothing that exercise couldn’t fix. Now I barely can do that due to the crippling anxiety and panic attacks. Weight gain started in year two, and it seems like no matter what I do, I can’t regulate it - for context, I work with a dietician and exercise daily for at least an hour."

For Birth Control "I had this inserted in October 2016. Doctor assured me it would be easy and painless since I just had a baby. It was the worst experience of my life, I almost passed out from the pain. After about 20 minutes, he finally got it. It's now 8 months later, and I get my period 3 weeks out of the month, I have a break for 1 week, and it's back. Before getting my period, I get extremely depressed, my mood swings are terrible. I have terrible cramping the whole time my period is here. I was hoping after a few months my period would become lighter, or at this point just back to normal, but it seems to be getting worse. The only good thing I can say about this birth control is that I have not become pregnant."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta for 19 miserable months until I figured out all the side effects I was experiencing were from Liletta! I got it put in September 2017, a month after my daughter was born, and thought the symptoms were due to postpartum anxiety and depression! Nope, it was the stupid IUD. I found a Facebook support group for IUD side effects on Facebook, and ladies, these things are deadly! I got my Liletta taken out at the end of February 2019, and even though it has only been 2 months, I feel a lot better. My side effects were: anxiety, depression, hopelessness, anger, liver damage, vertigo, depersonalization, and so much more. It was turning me into a completely different person!"

For Birth Control "When I first got the Liletta, I was excited. I have tried to take the pill in the past, and it ended in extreme nausea and weight gain. Not to mention, I kept forgetting to take it every single day at the same time. The Liletta seemed like a great idea since it's a 'get it and forget it' type of deal. Plus, my periods have always been very light, so the Liletta stopped all bleeding for me. However, I went from 130 lbs to 165 lbs in less than four months. Nothing had changed with my diet or exercise routine. In fact, I tried a new diet plan, and every time I jumped on the scale, the numbers were higher and higher. I am extremely unhappy with how I look now. My anxiety and depression have been through the roof. I plan on getting this taken out very soon and trying another form of birth control. It is very sad considering I had so much faith in this option. But overall, every woman's body is different."

For Birth Control "I got my Liletta in September 2016. I was a little scared that day, and I thought they were not going to insert it because I had my period. But my doctor said it is better to insert it when you're on your period. It was fast and minor pain. I had painful cramps for one hour that day only. For the next 3 months, my cycles were normal, and everything was good. But for the past 2 months, I started having some discomfort: hot flashes, back pain, mood swings, fatigue, chest pain, very low sex drive, and minor depression. The worst is the hot flashes. I've done thyroid, estrogen, pregnancy tests, and others. All the results are good. I don't know if it's the Liletta, it's the only recent change I have made."

For Birth Control "I'm 26, never had kids. My doctor proposed an IUD as an 'easier' alternative to a hysterectomy. Honestly? With the amount of pain and bleeding I have experienced, it would have been better to just get the hysto. The insertion was EXTREMELY painful. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but I was literally screaming with tears flowing down my face during insertion. I then had debilitating, truly debilitating cramps that 24/7 max dose ibuprofen couldn't ease. I was in bed from the pain for about 2 weeks. It's now been another 3 weeks (so about 5 weeks post-insertion), and the pain has subsided, but I have literally been bleeding nonstop since insertion. The constant pain and blood have made sex basically impossible. I'm also extremely exhausted and depressed. Liletta is wrecking my life. They say to wait 3 months to give your body time to adjust, but if things aren't way better by then, I'm just going to have this removed."

For Birth Control "So it's effective in terms of me not being pregnant, but I really don't like anything else about it. Constant cramping (4 years in), the insertion was so painful, and I am more depressed and anxious than I've ever been. I'm getting it removed next week because I've had enough, and I'm going back to the pill."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted at the end of June 2017. The procedure was quick, and I felt only a mild discomfort. I haven't had cramps, but for the first 4 months, I had continuous bleeding. It has finally subsided a bit, but my periods are very irregular. I never know when it's going to start. After sex, it definitely triggers a flow... which makes me want to not even have sex. Also, the worst part is that I am always hungry. I have gained at least 10 pounds. Depression has become a concern as well. I really want to have this taken out, but I don't know that any other birth control will fare any better as far as side effects."

For Birth Control "It was awful. Constant pelvic pain, severe mood swings, little to no libido, discomfort during intercourse, depressive episodes, worsened anxiety. When my body rejected it, I suffered a hormonal crash that my Gyno denied being a thing. Never again would I ever consider an IUD."

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta inserted at my 6 weeks after my baby was born (Feb. 2019). The insertion wasn't bad at all, but the cramping and constant bleeding for months afterward was annoying. I have had several bacterial infections causing me to have a very foul smell and needing to take several rounds of antibiotics. I gained a measly 15 lbs during pregnancy, which I lost right away until I had the IUD placed. I've now gained double that back, and it's not even been a full 3 months! I'm a raging person constantly, depressed, and have no sex drive, which is odd for me. I'm also anxious and get super worried about every little thing! I have had terrible pelvic pain, which the doctors chalked up to postpartum healing, but I don't think so! As of yesterday, my lovely Liletta string got wrapped around my tampon, and when removed, it came with it, so I guess I won't have an expensive doctor appointment to have the thing removed!"

For Birth Control "I spotted on the Liletta for 6 months, I still spot after sex now, and I think now my sex drive has gone way down. I feel dry and uncomfortable. My weight has also gone way up since May of 2016 when I had it placed, and while my activity levels are a little less than usual, my food habits are the same (perhaps better), but I've gained 30 pounds, and it's been impossible to lose that weight. I've been beating up myself about it, but I think it's not me, because I've always exercised intermittently (2-3 times/week). I also feel depressed and have little to no drive. I find small tasks extremely difficult and have very low confidence. I'm taking the Liletta out in a week or so, and I'll update this if I see that this is what has been causing it. I hope it's not because of this. I have not had periods for the last 1.5 years (I used to get very painful periods), and it's been a welcome relief."

For Birth Control "First off, had it for a year and had severe bleeding every month for at least 3 weeks a month, never stopped. Got horrible acne I still cannot get rid of. Had multiple ovarian cysts burst (which has never happened to me before). Zero sex drive, depression. My ob-gyn tried to tell me the hormone was so low none of my symptoms could be related to the drug, which is ridiculous. On a NuvaRing now, so far, okay."

For Birth Control "I got Liletta placed in on 3/8/18 after my procedure was done. I haven’t had any symptoms except mood swings and depression, but I don’t think it’s from the IUD. Haven’t gained weight. The only thing I don’t like about it is sometimes when you have sex, your partner can feel the IUD."

For Birth Control "Got it 12/19/17. Very negative experience. I had a very heavy flow and very painful cramps, so went for Liletta. Insertion was SO painful. I continued to have cramps all day and for the next few days. Still have random cramps and spot EVERY DAY. Got BV, and spotting isn't always light, it can be very heavy. Used to have high libido: 3 weeks in, I LOST my sex drive. I RARELY get slithers of sexual desire, but they subside very quickly. Am in a new relationship, and I'm SO attracted to him, but still NO sex drive, and I used to orgasm very easily. It's harder now, and for the 1st time: vaginal dryness, extreme mood swings, and depression. Broke down 3 weeks in. Everything overwhelming, most emotional I have ever been. I have a mass increase in anxiety. Beware if you are prone to mental health issues. Constant headaches, and the 1st time I got my period on the IUD could NOT move = cramp pain. Gained 10 lb the 1st month, caused stretch marks for 1st time. Tomorrow I am finally getting it out. Will update y'all. Pros: Not pregnant."

For Birth Control "In October of 2017, I gave birth to my youngest daughter and discussed birth control with my doctor. He suggested Liletta and told me it worked great and I wouldn't have any complications, and my periods would either go away or be very light. In December of 2017, I got the Liletta, and the process of inserting it was... painful but bearable! Over the next few months, I had no periods (YAY!), I became very angry most days, my sex drive changed, I had a miscarriage, and I was very depressed every day. My husband noticed these changes and asked why I was being that way, and all I could think of was the birth control. After calling my doctor and begging him for about a month, I was finally told that he would take it out for me. The day I got it taken out, it was like a HUGE weight was lifted off my shoulders, and I could smile again. Now I have cysts on my ovaries and other medical issues."

For Birth Control "I had a history of very heavy periods, and a coworker suggested an IUD as birth control because it helped her periods (she didn't have one at all!). Insertion was very painful for a short period of time. I delivered 2 babies without pain medication, and I'd say it was equivalent to a very strong contraction for about 1 minute. After insertion, I had irregular spotting for a month or so. I was hoping for a lighter period since mine was making me anemic. My period stayed the same! The IUD strings poked my husband during sex too. They trimmed them, but it still happens. In one year, I've gained 15 lbs, have worse anxiety and depression, and my skin is terrible. I'm getting it out soon and getting a uterine ablation and my tubes tied."

For Birth Control "I had it put in about a year ago. It initially hurt, but I was able to resume normal activity. I even went hiking that day. I was led to believe that I would have no periods or light periods. I was not using it for birth control, but to prevent more endometriosis flare-ups. Three months in, I became concerned about the nonstop heavy bleeding and clots. I was told to wait it out. Six months in, I continued to have the bleeding, along with some severe mood swings and deep depressive episodes that I've never had before. I felt bloated all the time. When I went to the doctor at month eleven, the suggestion was to wait it out more, and if I wanted, we could add more hormones to try to fix it. I had the IUD pulled out. I feel relieved. Hoping this review helps others."

For Birth Control "So I had this put in after baby number 3. I was overweight to begin with, but after I had the baby, I was at 225 lb, which is not bad considering I was 265 lb before I gave birth! But anyway, my son is almost 2 years old now, and since I had the IUD, I’ve been more depressed, angry, and just all over the place. My face breaks out constantly, but the worst of all is the pain and cramps with nausea that cause me to miss work. I felt pregnant every day just because I was so sick. Fights and arguments with my husband, family members. I was never like that before. So the other night, we were playing spades and drinking with our neighbors, and all of a sudden, I was in horrible pain that felt like I was in labor. I decided I couldn’t take the pain any longer, so I decided it had to be removed. I guess I will be having baby number 4 soon since I refuse to get back on birth control."
