For Pneumonia "This is a horrible antibiotic, please think twice before you fill this prescription. Very quickly after I took my first dose of Levoquin, my heart started racing. I was literally sweating all day and could not sleep at all. Gave me horrible anxiety. The side effect lasted for a good 24 hours. When I told my doctor about it, he encouraged me to try it for one more day - and that maybe these side effects were due to a steroid I had taken a day before. I had my doubts, but I took one more dose another day. Same exact side effects, more sweating, anxiety, heart palpitations. Couldn't sleep AGAIN. When I tried to take a Xanax to allow myself to sleep, the result was really bad and caused even more anxiety. Switched to Augmentin."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I advise anyone issued this medication to refuse it and ask for an alternative. I was prescribed this to take 1 every 12 hours for the first 2 days, after that 1 for 8 days for an infected finger. I had a very small cut which I had used antibiotic cream on, and it made my finger itch and then swell. There was no pain present, and the cut had disappeared, however, my finger was swollen and very itchy. I went to the hospital urgent care here in Spain, and as I am allergic to penicillin, I was given the levofloxacin. First day no problems, second day I couldn't stand up due to severe cramps, I was not sleeping, felt anxious and uneasy. I also began experiencing tightness and pain in the arches of my feet when walking. I still have pain in my feet."

For Kidney Infections "Was prescribed levofloxacin 500 mg once a day for 20 days for a suspected kidney infection. After taking the first dose, I started getting very anxious. Then it was followed by a very dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite, and finally a fever of 101. Discontinuing this medication right away. There are safer options out there."

"I was prescribed a 5-day supply of levofloxacin at 750 mg. I went home and took 1 pill. A few hours after taking it, I noticed I was having panic attacks and anxiety attacks. I have them already, so I didn't pay much mind, even though I noted that it came out of nowhere, no trigger, and was pretty bad. Throughout the day, I progressed to heart palpitations and a very rapid heartbeat. My resting heart rate was 140 for hours, even while laying down (I'm an asthmatic and own an oximeter). As the day went on and night came, I was in bed with horrible tremors. The tremors started from my head and went into my legs. I also noticed my tongue was twitching uncontrollably, and so were my legs. The tremors were so bad I ended up with muscle cramps. Spent the entire night crying because of the pain and shakiness and lack of sleep. I did not take any more, and I advise you read all the warnings on this medicine BEFORE you take it, like I should have. 2 days since first dose and still having tremors."

Levofloxacin for Pneumonia "Sure, it got rid of the pneumonia. But at what cost? Bad anxiety, terrible pain in knees and ankles. I was given Xanax to deal with the side effects of the Levaquin. Never taking this again."
