"I was prescribed gabapentin 900 mg a day primarily for neuropathic pain generated from several spinal nerves in my cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine. I'm in a lot less pain. I'm a little lightheaded and dizzy, but food and plenty of fluids help with that. I'm also used to it from a brain condition I have."

"Frustrated with sciatica, I popped a couple of Gabapentin (600 mg) to see if there was relief. (My family member had them for migraines but never used them.) Two things became evident after about an hour and a half: 1) the sciatica was still there, but the pain was vague and I didn't care about it; 2) at my usual Saturday night binge drinking hour - 3 PM - I had no desire to drink. Ever since I discovered this miracle drug, I've barely drank, no hangovers, just feel great. This miracle drug may save my liver, life, and marriage."

"Just took my first one today, and I can't believe how good I feel right now. I've been hurting for months. Waiting for my neurologist to see me now. I was feeling exhausted from hurting so badly. I never thought it would end, but I feel 200 times better after taking the first dose. I highly recommend this drug."

"I was never warned about the withdrawal, which is my responsibility to research. I will never make that mistake again. The withdrawal from gabapentin made me suicidal, and I ended up Baker Acted here in FL. But, it doesn't end there because, since I live in FL and was Baker Acted because of the medication, now each time I go to the ER for a physical medical problem, the ER wants to talk about my 'mental health' instead of the blood coming from my body or broken bone I went to the ER for. So now, I am in the process of selling my home and my business so I can leave the state of Florida because years later, someone phoned in a fraudulent tip that I was suicidal, and despite proof that the tip was bogus, I was taken by force and denied my blood pressure medication by a state-run facility for three days until I collapsed from hypertension. It's destroyed my life, so now I have no other choice than to leave the place I love the most because I took this horrible drug."

"This medication completely stopped all of the pain I experienced, to the point that I had to do a body check each night to see if I had hurt myself during the day. However, within 2 months of starting this medication (a VERY low dose), I was suicidal and had to be taken off of it at 2 1/2 months. If it weren't for the side effects, I would give this medication a 10. Due to the side effects (horrendous, in my opinion), I've given it a 1."

"I started on 100 mg at night for about 1 week. Then increased to 300, 600, and finally in about a month, I was up to 1200 mg a day in increments of three. For the first 6 weeks, you are tired, but it's worth it, as soon as it kicks in, your pain is gone! I feel a little loopy some days, and I forget a lot of things, but my arthritis and bulging discs are pain-free, and I can live a great life. I dread getting off of it, though. It's going to be hell. If I ever run out, it's bad diarrhea and anxiety. Don't run out or take more than you're prescribed. Gab is a great drug for nerve pain, and I have no anxiety."

"I've been taking this drug for almost 9 months, and I get no relief. I suffer from leg pain that intensifies when I walk. I've seen at least 5 different specialists, had scores of tests, MRIs, etc., and no diagnosis. My final visit was with neurologists (I've seen two; one in Philadelphia and the other doctor in New York). Unfortunately, I have not responded to this medicine and am now weaning off of it. Good luck to those who try it... SAD to say I had no luck, and my condition worsens every month."

"Can I ask a question? When you all talk about neuropathy pain (non-diabetic), do you feel pain relief, or does the pain totally go away completely? In other words, I guess I’m trying to gauge what my “expectations” should be when taking this med. Makes sense? Btw, I’m currently taking 900 mg/day for 8 months. Would love to hear your thoughts."

"I take 800 mg of gabapentin four times a day for severe nerve damage, fibromyalgia, and neuropathic pain. I've been taking this for now 25 years, and it no longer works. My pain is getting worse and worse, and I'm getting no relief. What worries me is the neuropathic pain. The severe nerve damage is never going to go away, and I'm already on narcotics also for that, which will get worse over time, the pain. Anyway, I was also prescribed amitriptyline 25 mg to take one before bed, neither works."

"I have arthritis, L5 herniated, sciatica, lower back, legs, feet, neck, hand, and forearm pain. Anyway, I started gabapentin at 300 mg, then increased to 1800 mg daily with hydrocodone and baclofen - nothing helps. I was informed to try medical marijuana or a spinal stimulator. How can marijuana help me? I would imagine that it's weaker than the cocktail I'm taking! I'm leaning towards a spinal stimulator, also, medical marijuana is not covered by insurance."

"I have taken gabapentin for a while. The only downside for me is I stumble a lot. I also feel my mind is different, slower. I will continue to take it. It does help my nerve pain somewhat. I also take Zoloft, I’m not sure how that affects gabapentin. Good luck to the people that. I’m going to keep on trying."

"I take gabapentin 800 mg, 2 tabs three times a day as directed by my neurologist for my migraines and my messed-up nerve issues in my neck. It has done wonders for me. Being on this dose, I can work at my job, and loud noises do not bother me, and beaming light does not send me into a migraine attack. This medicine and dose have been helping my nerve pain in the neck a lot. I give this gabapentin and dose a 5-star. My neurologist and family doctor really worked together to help me. People need to stop kicking this medicine and dose - everyone responds differently to medicines and doses. My doctor and neurologist have been highly praised for not handing out a script for narcotics, which I've never asked for."

"AMAZING DRUG!!! Cannot understand all of the bad reviews…I am the poster girl for severe chronic neuropathic pain. Head-to-toe burning pain for three years. Lower body legs and back are the worst, caused by trapped nerves in the SI joint after a motorbike accident + extreme trauma… It ruined my life. Endless suicide attempts. Psych hospital stays. Screaming continually, thrashing around in pain. Morphine didn’t help, no painkillers worked, even weed. Endless physio to no avail. I am on the lowest dose of this drug, 100 mg x3 a day. Pain was 100% where I was being sick from it, sleep deprived. Pain is now at 40%, can’t imagine what it will be if I increase the dose! Also have severe OCD, bipolar, and panic disorder. Been on over 14 different antidepressants, nothing worked but this!"

"I had an intermittent stabbing pain in my thigh that was so painful that it would drop me to the ground. It was so intense that I would stress about it coming back. The only way I could describe it was like being struck by lightning for 10-15 seconds. When I saw my doctor, I was prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain. After the first time I took the pill, the pain was gone. It was a miracle for me! I was worried about possible side effects, even though I knew they were minimal. I took the pill at night so I wouldn't be affected by drowsiness. I had no side effects until I tried going off of the medication a few months later. A couple of days after my last pill, I had a few intense dizzy spells, but it was short-lived and worth being pain-free."

"I went to a specialist in pain management. 300 mg seems like way too much of a starting dose. 100 mg for 3 days, then 200 mg for 3 days, 300 mg for 3 days, etc. Let's your body get used to it. Go up to 600 mg 3 times and then stop. If you don't have relief by then, it's unlikely you will. My nerve pain from Folfox platinum chemo destroyed my nerves in my hands and feet. This gave me about 50% reduction in pain, worth it. Very tolerable side effects. Minimal, really. Try, but try it right."

"I have a rare disorder: MALS (median arcuate ligament syndrome). Eating has been excruciatingly painful, and I have lost 30 pounds within the past five months. I was started on gabapentin, and the pain is now tolerable enough to keep enough down to have gained around ten pounds back. I honestly do not know what I would do without this medication. I also do not have the sleepiness that is warned with as a side effect, which is a big perk."

"I've been on Gabapentin for the past 4 years after a severe spinal cord injury that required surgery left me with debilitating neuropathy in all four of my limbs, as well as my back and head. Truly a nightmare experience that had me feeling suicidal. I was prescribed Gabapentin by my surgeon. It took a week or two to get past the 'zombie-mode' phase, but wow. This medication has literally saved my life. I wouldn't be here without it. Was on 1800mg a day the first couple years before having to increase the dosage to 2400mg a day the past couple years. Absolute game-changer. Unfortunately, however, after 4 years of usage, my body has recently built up a tolerance to Gabapentin, and all the neuropathy has come rushing back all over my body. My pain management specialist just recommended I switch to Lyrica, but I'm nervous to do so after reading so many negative reviews about the drug and its potential side effects. But I'm getting desperate as the pain is becoming unbearable again."

"Degenerative disc pain. Pinched nerve root L4-L5, from arthritic bone spurs. Was on oxycodone for months. Doc gave me this to get me off the oxy's. By God, it worked. I was truly skeptical, but my pain levels are assuredly reduced, and the side effects are minor. The oxy's really didn't block the hardcore nerve signals that fire when the nerve is pinched by walking or movements. Lightning bolts of pain would shoot right through the meds. This at least makes the pain tolerable."

"I have been on gabapentin for a year now due to sciatica. The pain was so severe for three and a half months before the pills started to work. I was up to 1500 mg a day for six months, now I only take two pills a day (600 mg). I still have some pain, but I can live with it."

"I felt that this medication worked wonders for my neuropathy, however, I was also taking HCTZ for high blood pressure, and once I was off HCTZ, I no longer needed the gabapentin. The hydrochlorothiazide was causing all the nerve problems. I am a much happier person now that I don't have to worry about taking either of these medications."

"I was given 300 mg of gabapentin to take at night (I also take 400 mg daily of carbamazepine). The gabapentin is very strong and knocks me out, but since it's at night, it's not so bad. Completely by accident, I discovered how depressed I was, because these pills are giving me a new lease on life. My negativity and suicidal tendencies have all gone pretty much. I'm more focused, happy, and get on with things. Side effects I get: tiredness, mild confusion/forgetfulness, and a hand twitch that makes me almost drop things. P.S. I'm from the UK, so no insurance, I pay for prescriptions yearly."

"I suffer from chronic pain due to post-cancer surgery nerve pain of unknown specificity that resulted in severe pelvic pain and burning and tingling in my groin and legs. I struggled badly for almost six years with this condition and was prescribed a long list of meds that caused even more harm. The only thing that helped was Norco up to six times a day, which eases the pelvic pain but does nothing for the burning and tingling. I was in constant agony and hospitalized for “pain control” more times than I can remember, consisting of hefty doses of IV pain meds for several days, then released and back to the same old miserable existence. I was finally referred to palliative care (non-terminal) and put on 300 mg of gabapentin 3x a day in addition to the Norco. Without exaggeration, the pain went from 10 to 4 within days and has now settled down to a constant 2. I am sleeping all night, active all day again, and I actually feel normal most of the time. A gift!"

"I have myoclonic jerking and nerve pain caused by lumbar stenosis, and this works like a charm. I take a 600-900 mg dose of gabapentin three times a day. I also take 10 mg Baclofen twice a day. So I'm not sure which medicine does what, but I seem to need them both. By using this regimen, I usually have little to no myoclonic jerking or stabbing pain. Without it, I have terrible stabbing pain. It feels like people are stabbing me with stickpins and putting them all the way in for a few moments. I also get myoclonic jerking every few minutes that is noticeable and scares other people, especially kids. I am grateful for the medication, and I recommend it."
