"I was on amlodipine for 2 years. My legs started to tighten terribly and my feet were swelling, so my GP put me on felodipine. Wow. I experienced tingling all over my body, and numbness to the point of dropping cups, etc. I had headaches that rendered me to bed, I couldn't lift my head off the pillows without feeling nausea and dizziness. Then I started coughing up blood. This was all in 3 weeks. I stopped taking it, and everything returned to normal after 3 days. But unfortunately, my blood pressure was high again. So now I am awaiting new medication."

"While this medicine was effective in lowering my blood pressure, it had numerous negative side effects. It made me very sleepy, sensitive to heat, caused my ankles and legs to swell up so I needed a diuretic, it caused acid reflux with or without food, flushing, and made my depression much worse. I have since weaned off."

"I have high blood pressure, tried loads of pills, all prescribed. Finally, they put me on felodipine 5 mg. It was working slowly, then they put me on 10 mg. Things went the opposite way: ankles swollen, pain in joints, hands, same painful joints. Was struggling to get out of the chair & upstairs was painful. Blood pressure went up to 175/79. Stopping taking them 2 days ago, lost a lot of joint pain. Having knee surgery in 2 weeks, so was worried about the side effects."

"Doc put me on low-dose felodipine because of family history of heart disease, and my BP was creeping up a bit with age. I've been taking it for years with absolutely no side effects. And yes, my BP is where it should be."

"Was diagnosed with hypertension, which is almost entirely white-coat anxiety, and prescribed felodipine. It is useless. Dose was doubled and it was still useless. Added an ARB, which worked, even too well (lowest dose lowers my BP too much--because the only place I have hypertension is the doctor's office). Then cut back on the felodipine--no increase in the BP. Going to get off it entirely and stick with the ARB. Felodipine/calcium channel blocker is a placebo for minimal hypertension. Don't take it. Angiotensin-system drugs are far better (but be sure it's an ARB, not an ACE, which causes bad cough in a lot more patients than they claim)."

"Was taking maximum cilazapril, but BP was getting high again, so Doc swapped me to felodipine. I've got a relatively rare blood type, which may explain this (since I bet they never analyze the initial test results by blood type). Man, what a nightmare! This stuff completely demolished my already struggling energy production ability. Within about 24 hours, I became terribly weak, with chills and feverish. I felt like I was sickening for something and went to bed. I had to more than double my bedding and eventually went to bed dressed in long johns and T-shirt as well, to be able to feel warm enough, but still didn't. Despite this, I was in a cold sweat. So, I spent several hours feeling cold but sweating at the same time. Eventually, my body eliminated it and I came back to normal. As I wasn't convinced that the felodipine was to blame, I repeated the test about a week later. Same result. I remember reading the official leaflet, which was glowing about it, but that is not my experience."

"I've been put on felodipine parma XL, and it was OK at first, but now I spend 2 hours in bed a day with side effects. I get dizzy, and my head is full of fog, and I feel sickly. It's a nightmare. I have to take aspirin to get the side effects to get better, but it's 2 hours a day feeling like absolute dirt."

"This medication has brought great relief to my life at 70 yrs. My peripheral arteries are blocked (legs completely) and completely or partially blocked in other areas, including the heart. I think due to a perinatal cause (my mother suffered meningitis during pregnancy in the UK in 1942) - I have been told that my peripheral arteries are 'spindly,' but the main ones are fine (angiogram). Blood pressure (systolic) was 200, and I suffered numerous heart attacks and palpitations prior to the use of felodipine."

"After trying 2 or 3 different pills, finally given 5 mg felodipine & was great - until the pharmacy said they couldn't get hold of them & was given 2 x 2.5 mg of ParmidXL. Within 3 days, my B/P was back high again, feeling breathless and dizzy. I'm told it's the same drug, but definitely has different results. Has anyone else experienced this? What to do now?"

"Just started taking it 8 days ago 5 milligrams, been on amlodipine 10 milligrams since 2021. Started on 5 mg, increased to 10 mg. Loads of swelling in feet and legs, asked to come off them. Doctor put me on felodipine 5mg. Blood pressure steady, not sure how it's going to alter swelling as it's the same stuff as amlodipine. No other side effects, just fat legs, itchy sometimes, seem to be okay with them. It's a minefield trying to get blood pressure under control and be happy with meds."

"Was prescribed amlodipine for raised blood pressure. Legs and feet swelled up to the point I had to buy new shoes two sizes larger than normal, my legs were also painful. Doctor changed medication to felodipine, and to be honest, I have not felt well since, suffering from aching limbs, tiredness, lower stomach and back pain, which I am not sure is anything to do with felodipine, but it is strange that the symptoms started after taking this medication for a few weeks. It has reduced my blood pressure."

Felodipine "Plendil was effective in controlling my blood pressure. The only reason I am not taking it is because I cannot purchase this medicine anymore due to the company discontinuing the product. I have had problems finding a substitute for this medicine. If anything is available on the market, I need help."

"Not for me. Enlarged breasts, joint pain, headache, swollen gums causing nonstop teeth pain and 'wheezing' (I have asthma as well), increased sinus issues. Initially, I thought it was a good thing, but as time has gone on, I feel horrible. In going up to 5 mg, it has been difficult to climb stairs (breathless). 2.5 mg didn't do much, but 5 mg did bring my pressure down."

"I took amlodipine for about three years or more. But unfortunately, I got severe ankle edema. The doctor shifted me to felodipine 5 mg. It was very good to have the same effect as amlodipine. I continued to use it for almost a year and a half. And then the ankle edema came back again. I lowered the dose to 2.5 mg, and boom. The effect was still on, the edema went away. I am writing this to help other patients. But it is not a solo drug. I am taking a combination of Coversyl and felodipine."

"Tried amlodipine first, and it didn’t do anything to help my high blood pressure. Switched to felodipine, and it came right down with no side effects."

"It is very bad medication for blood pressure. My blood pressure is lower than normal, and all body is numb and has pins and needles, plus I have vomiting, then I get all over body pain."

"After taking this medicine for 8 days, my blood pressure lowered by 10 units. From 160/100, it became 150/100."

"Started taking this BP drug for only 2 weeks. It helped lower my BP, but it’s the same without them (white coat syndrome at the docs, I am thinking). The side effects were horrible. Trouble breathing, constant coughing tinged with blood. Severe aches in and around the kidneys. Feeling listless, so today I stopped them, and my BP is better than when I was on them. Won’t be taking them or any other BP meds again. Doctors are far too fast to prescribe medication these days, without any investigation."
