"For anyone coming on here and reading all of the unfortunate side effects TriNessa has caused - don’t worry yet! It might work great for you. When I was first prescribed it, I read what the internet had to say about it and I was terrified! I’ve been on it a little over a year now, it cleared my HORRIBLE, PAINFUL acne! That was the original reason it was prescribed. On top of clearing my acne, it also shortened my cycle from 7 days to 4, a much lighter period that isn’t getting in the way of my life. This pill also significantly reduced the amount of migraines that I get. Good luck to everyone, hope you find what works for you! <3"

"Ever since I got on TriNessa, horrible experience by far! I'm nauseated all the time, even with a meal, even changed times to see if that would help. Nothing worked, and I have anxiety, that went up so much ever since I've been taking TriNessa. I don't feel motivated to do anything. I just don't feel myself. I'm officially tossing this out, I have 6 more pills left, not worth it!!!"

"I've been on Trinessa for almost 6 months now, and I haven't seen many issues with it. When I first started, I was a bit moody, but now that side effect seems to have gone away. Also, I've had somewhat irregular periods while on the pill. I've had no headaches, weight gain, my skin has cleared up a lot since starting it. I'd definitely recommend it."

"Been on Trinessa for 8 years for mild acne and birth control. At first, it helped with my acne significantly, but it also made me gain 15 lbs (even though I was working out like usual); I feel like the medication decreased my exercise tolerance and motivation. Now that I'm in PA school, my acne has returned. Part of the weight gain was in my breasts, but also everywhere else. It also worsened my PMS symptoms, making me more emotional and irritable. Not fun to feel like you're always in a bitchy mood. Overall, it did its job, helped with my acne (at first), and was cheap, but the weight gain and worsening PMS symptoms were not fun. I recently switched to Implanon because I hate taking daily pills and want something more long-term."

"I have been on TriNessa on and off for about two years. I was on it for a year straight, and it seriously saved my life. Cleared up my acne, lost weight, no periods, didn’t ever get pregnant. This birth control is the best."

"I like it. TBH, and I’m a very paranoid and picky person. I’ve been on it for 5 years, and I rarely get cramps or much PMS. I didn’t gain weight. Didn’t lose hair. I’ve always had depression and anxiety, so I don’t genuinely see a difference in that. The only thing is I didn’t see much of a difference in my acne."

"I wanted to share my review with TriNessa. I came here to read some reviews about 5 months ago or so. I was scared to try this birth control, my insurance made me switch from Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (after over 5 years). The first month, I immediately started breaking out like crazy, and it only worsened as the time went by. By the third month, I did not want to go out and show my face, it was awful. But I did not want to give up on this birth control, it should be almost identical to Ortho, right? So why wouldn't it work for me? I almost gave up on it until the fourth month, my skin started to clear up. The redness is now completely gone, my skin is soft and glowing. I am going into my 5th month now, my skin feels amazing. I would suggest giving it some time."

"I've been on all kinds of birth control since having my son 21 years ago. I got on TriNessa because my current insurance doesn't cover the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo I was on before. I'm almost 40 and have had a problem with acne my whole life, even while being on the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. Well, I am VERY happy with TriNessa because my face has cleared up and looks beautiful for the first time in my life! My periods only last 4 days, which is awesome. So far, I've been on TriNessa almost a year and will definitely continue it."

"THIS. PILL. ALMOST. RUINED. MY. LIFE. I managed to destroy countless relationships while on this pill - luckily, my mother (the only one willing to stick around when I became a sobbing, irritable, and unbearable mess) told me to stop taking TriNessa immediately. Within a matter of days, my dark thoughts (which I was having for the first time in my life) disappeared. Although my friendships have been mended and my mental state is now back to normal - I am still dealing with the embarrassment and guilt I have over the way I acted. PLEASE, SPARE YOURSELF! I do not want anyone to experience what I went through."

"I've been on TriNessa for almost a month now. I'm 18, and ever since I was 15, my periods have been outta whack! I skip 3 months at a time with no period. My doctor put me on TriNessa, and so far, I haven't had anything wrong! The only thing is I hate the placebo pills. My period has been terrible! I have terrible back and stomach cramps, but my bleeding isn't so bad. I highly recommend it to anyone!"

"I have been on TriNessa for 10 months. So far, I have had breast tenderness, fatigue, weight gain, 104 lb to 127 lb (yes, huge difference), lower abdomen pain. Headaches, mood swings not so much, but I do cry a lot, and I mean a lot. The pill is doing its job, although I've had one scare. My period comes three days late and lasts about 3-6 hours, my period hasn't been longer than a day. And it's light, very light, like spotting. TriNessa is a good pill, it has done its job, but the side effects are like symptoms of pregnancy. I could do without the side effects."

"This birth control has done its purpose in preventing pregnancy, but my side effects are awful. In the year I have been on the pill, I have gained about 15 pounds, and my diet is very healthy, and I'm active. This made my acne worse, I have sleepless nights, and I constantly struggle with being down and not being happy. I have been waiting it out to see if this would shift back to normal, but it hasn't. This might work for someone else, but it has not worked for me."

"I have been on TriNessa for about 10 months and I have had a good experience! This is the first birth control I've ever taken. My whole life, I have had very regular, easy periods. I used to have cramps the first day that would last about 6 days. Now my period lasts about 4 days, and I don't have any cramps! My acne is loads better, my boobs got bigger. I gained about 5 pounds but have also slipped on my healthy eating/working out, so that could also be why. I take it at 7 pm every night because I did feel slightly nauseous when I took it in the morning when I first started taking TriNessa. I sleep great, my anxiety is actually better. Overall, a good experience-my only complaint is that I seem to cry/get more emotional over silly things!"

"I've been on Trinessa for years as the generic to Ortho Tri-Cyclen. It was free compared to the expensive version. I have not noticed issues with this pill at all, at least not that are very noticeable. I think the mood swings and emotional distress others are mentioning would happen with or without any BCP because of PMS. My skin breaks out only the week before my cycle starts, but nothing crazy. I don't have breast tenderness, cramps, or discomfort either. The periods are light and painless as well. I do notice the bloat like clockwork a week prior to the period, but it is what it is. I have not gotten pregnant while on the pill though my guy and I are highly fertile, so it's obviously working. Overall, I'm happy with it."

"Okay, well, ever since I have started this BCP, I have noticed a decrease in my sex drive, and I have lost my appetite. I am losing weight, which is really good for me because I could do with losing a few lbs. But, to be honest, I don't see the point in a BCP if you don't even have a sex drive anymore. I am going to continue with this pill, but maybe change after this month is over."

"So the doctor recommended Trinessa because my periods have been inconsistent. So I have taken the first 10 pills for the pack, and the first 5 days felt great, never had any of the side effects. Then I slowly started to notice I would get hot and headaches out of nowhere. Then things got worse, I would start crying and getting extremely emotional for no reason. I would feel like I was in a dream with fever, no energy, headache, and cry for hours for no reason. My hormones are all out of control now from just taking the first 10 pills. I wouldn't recommend this pill, but then again, I'm sure it affects people differently, just like any other birth control pill. Just my first experience with the pill (Trinessa) has been terrible."

"I took this for about 5 months and didn't hate it until the last month or two, but by then I really, really hated it. My shin was pretty clear and my breasts grew two cup sizes, which was nice. However, they hurt constantly and were always sore. I always felt bloated and gained 5 pounds the first week and another 8 pounds over the next couple of months. The weight was IMPOSSIBLE to lose, and as someone who has struggled with eating disorders, it was extremely disheartening. The worst part, however, was a complete and total loss of interest in sex. It was really damaging my relationship, to which sex has been a really huge part. The sex drive wasn't hugely affected until the end of my use of TriNessa, but it was a very intense drop-off."

"I lost 5 pounds after a month of using TriNessa. It was the 3rd or 4th birth control I tried, and the only one that keeps my period under control. With the other birth controls I tried, I had 2 periods per month! Not fun when you are a newlywed! I have been taking TriNessa for 4 years and have not gotten pregnant. The only complaint I have is a lower sex drive, but there are ways around that!"

"This birth control did its job, that was the only good thing about it, though. It gave me extreme nausea to the point where I didn't even want to see or smell food. It gave me terrible migraines a few hours after I took it every single day. It made my mouth dry, and I couldn't self-lubricate, which was a bit annoying. I used to be very into sex, but once I was on it for a few weeks, my sex drive completely went away. My acne cleared up, which was an extreme plus. I'd get 1-3 zits whenever I had my period. My period was always regular before I went on it, then once I took the pills, I always got my period at the end of the pill cycle. It was an okay birth control, but I probably just reacted badly to it."

"I have been on Trinessa for the past 7 years. I initially started taking it so I could have a normal, predictable period and to see if it would clear up my acne. It did help tremendously in both areas. Since I've used Trinessa, I've never had a pregnancy scare, but I do take it religiously at the same time every day. The only reason I'm switching off of Trinessa is because it hasn't helped with how heavy my periods are. Otherwise, I've obviously been pretty happy with it for the past 7 years and would recommend it!"

"TriNessa was the first birth control I had ever been on. I took it for almost a year and had to stop. I suffer from anxiety and depression. My periods were really awful before TriNessa, and when I started taking it, they were easy and manageable. My skin was glowing and clear. TriNessa made my anxiety and depression so much worse. I cried all the time, had panic attacks, and mood swings multiple times a day. I also gained about 15 pounds. I have not tried birth control since, I am so scared that it will be anything similar to TriNessa because it isn't worth it."

"I love TriNessa. I've been on it for about a year and a half now. Unlike other birth controls, the most weight I gained since I started it is 2 pounds. I love it. Simple, easy to use, and effective. Give it a shot. Plus, it cleared up my acne!"

"I've been on this birth control for about a year. Everything started out great until about 6 months in. I missed about three pills one month, and it caused severe nausea. The nausea wouldn't stop even after months of taking my pills regularly. My doctor had to prescribe me anti-nausea medication just so I could make it through the day. I also experienced slight weight gain, but nothing major. On a positive note, it did regulate my periods and enlarged my breasts."

"Is there a minus 0? I am only writing a review to remind myself to never take this med again! Omg. Two weeks before my period is due, my face flushed, broke out in the worst rosacea, skin scaled, then pimpled. Now that my skin is getting better, my breasts enlarged about 5 pounds more, overall body weight gain about 5 pounds more mid-body, waist. I've felt bloated for about half a month. Oh yes. I also woke up with a swollen face, experienced migraines that kept knocking me down. Energy level is gone. Never again TriNessa."

"I've really liked my time on TriNessa. It's done everything my doctor told me it would do. My periods went from 5 days to 4, and I no longer get the debilitating cramps and body aches I used to have for three days every month. You can keep weight gain under control if you exercise when you're taking it since a lot of it is water weight. Might I also say it has done its job as a contraceptive as well, so I'm quite happy with it."
