"At 40 years old, my period was heavy, and my iron was crashing. I had never taken birth control before because I already struggle with weight. After months of dealing with a heavy period, I decided it was time. I explained my weight gain and acne fears (yes, I break out easily) to her, and she told me that Lo Loestrin Fe would be the best for me. I’m on month four, and my skin is horrible. I’ve had to have laser treatments just to calm the inflammation down, and I started having debilitating anxiety. This stuff is poison. I am angry at the gynecologist for even prescribing it!"

"I started Lo Lo a month after a partial hysterectomy and cystectomy only to prevent more tumors. The first three months I had several side effects such as loss of appetite, acne, mood swings, and irregular bleeding. By my sixth month, my body adjusted well except I would get my period around the time I should be ovulating or the 2nd week of the pack for around 5 days. I stopped taking Lo Lo because of the irregular bleeding and because it did not help me prevent tumors. I have an 8 cm mass in my ovary. So, I will give Taytulla a chance. Praying all goes well. As with any medication, you have to allow time for your body to adjust. Be strong!"

"Well, after reading the reviews, I'm not so worried about the fact that I haven't had my period for 2 months. I've definitely been freaking out and took 5 pregnancy tests in the past 2 months (even though I've only had sex twice, I just had to be sure, lol). It would have been nice if my doctor would have mentioned that this was one of the side effects instead of me finding it out on my own after 2 months of a normal cycle. She put me on this pill because I was experiencing daily discharge with the generic Tri-Cyclen. That has ceased to be a problem since starting this particular kind of pill. I have not had any negative side effects other than not having my period (sure it's no picnic, but it gives me peace of mind every month)."

"I've only been on it for two weeks, but so far I LOVE IT! It has helped clear up my acne, and I've noticed that I've started losing weight in what seems like all the right places! The only downfall is I've been spotting this whole time, which is a pain since I just recently started a new relationship! I'm sure that will change over time. If things change, I will definitely let you know, but so far all I can say is HOORAH LO LOESTRIN FE!!"

"I switched to this birth control from Yaz because my periods (although controlled) were still 7-8 days long and heavy. When I switched to this pill, I gained about 8 lbs, was intensely moody, and noticed my hair and skin became extremely oily. I was on it for 4 months, and it only got worse. I had breakthrough bleeding the entire time. The second month I was on it, I bled for 2 weeks straight. It was absolutely miserable. I know birth control affects every person differently, but this was AWFUL for me."

"I wanted to share my experience because when I researched Lo Lo, I found negative/horrible reviews. I was taken off my BC when my new ob/gyn realized I had been on it for over 16 years straight. I took a year off of BC, and my periods were getting so bad that we began to think I had endo. I was throwing up, crying, backaches, migraines.... So, I had to try something. I gave in and tried Lo Lo. The first month I bled/spotted the last 3 weeks of the pack, had cramps, and I was so bloated - very bloated. However, by the second pack, I was thinning out again, I did not have a period, and I did not have any cramps. I'm now on my third pack, and things are going normal. I don't like not having a period, I hope I get one after another month on the pill. I hear I won't, though. Please do not be scared to try the pill. Everyone is different. You have to give it 3 months to see if it is right for you. I wanted to quit at 1 month with bloating and pain...but I gave it a longer try, and I am glad I did."

"I was on Triphasil and had migraines for years. I was put on this by the doctor in March of 2011, and the first month I felt a complete change, no migraines. In month 3, I had a normal period for 4 days. In month 4, I have no period, but I have light cramps. That's okay because they were worse on the other one. But I don't know if I should freak out about not having one or throw a party."

"This is the best birth control. I had no side effects. Only switching due to high out-of-pocket cost. Experienced no weight gain, acne, mood swings, etc. If you can afford the out-of-pocket cost for this TIER 3 medication, then I definitely recommend it."

"PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING LO LOESTRIN FE! My dermatologist had me on Yaz for 8 months for my acne. It was amazing until I got migraines. After that, my gynecologist switched me to Lo Loestrin Fe. Within two weeks, I started getting acne all over my body. I got my period before I finished all 28 pills, I got cramps, I became extremely irritable, and my period was heavy. I do not recommend this birth control brand. I don’t use birth control to prevent pregnancy, so I can’t speak for that. However, if you’re on birth control to regulate your cycle and help your acne, talk to your doctor about going on a different brand of birth control pills."

"Negative side effects: 1. Weight gain: I'm very petite, and I work out at least 4 times a week. I track my activity using a Fitbit, and while taking this BC, my activity was actually higher than the previous month. That being said, I still gained about 7 pounds. My appetite increased, but not enough to justify this weight gain. By my calculations, I should have been losing weight due to higher activity levels. Additionally, the weight gain only occurred around my midsection, and I felt bloated and uncomfortable. 2. Mood swings: I rarely cry, and when I do, it's for good reason. With this BC, I wanted to cry over everything. 3. Acne: My skin was clear before taking this, and now I have cystic acne all over my forehead and cheeks."

"I started this pill on the first day of my period. My period lasted for a week like it normally does. I had sex 2 weeks into taking the pill. Then the next day, I started spotting. Then it turned into a full-blown period. So basically, in the 3 weeks I've been on the pill, I've been on my period twice. This period is really irritating. Or maybe because this is period #2 in 3 weeks. My breasts seem bigger. My weight is stable, but I am craving chocolate. No acne yet. Overall, I'm pissed. I started the pill for ovarian cysts and pain. But I'm still in pain and cramping, and most of all, I'm still bleeding."

"I started taking this to control my periods and hopefully get some relief. I had taken this years ago, for a few months, and I didn’t have any issues... this time, however, was the opposite. I had so much breakthrough bleeding, legit getting my periods every 2 weeks type of thing. I pushed through taking it 3 months, on my fourth pack now, and I had my period on Jan 10 for 5 days. I got it again this past Friday, Jan 24. I had enough, it obviously isn’t working for me. My breasts got so tender and swollen, cramps didn’t get any relief, I’m super sensitive, I’m moody, and the bleeding alone was so uncomfortable. It wasn’t worth taking it. I’m trying a new birth control now, I had to call my doctor and ask for a change. I really don’t recommend. If it helps, I’m 25 and 170 lbs, no major health issues other than seasonal allergies."

"I got on this pill to regulate my periods because I had mild PCOS. However, I will be switching pill brands since on this medication I have had cramps but no period, despite taking the pill regularly and at the same time. Apparently, this is common for this pill, but I prefer having a period. I also realized I gained around 10-15 pounds after getting on this pill, and getting the weight off is difficult. I grew fatter facially and in my stomach. I also noticed an increase of acne, not only on my face but also on my back, which has never been a problem before. I look forward to switching my pill in the next few days and hope for better results!"

"This is my first month of using this birth control. I haven't had a period yet. I'm broke out in bad acne, having mood swings and depression, which I don't like. I stay angry at everybody. I'm on my last week of the pill. I'll never take this pill again."

"I've only been on Lo Loestrin for a couple of months, but I am very pleased so far. With other pills (and I've been on plenty), I break out, gain weight, am extremely moody, but this one has been a breeze. My skin looks great, I haven't gained weight (my breasts are slightly bigger), and my mood is great. I think I finally found a pill that works for me. I also love that they offer a coupon card, which makes my payment $35!"

"Taking a multivitamin, probiotic pill, garlic pill, and making sure to still eat greens, low sugar, and drinking lots of water when taking this pill or any birth control pill for that matter is essential to help keep all the nasty side effects away or at bay for some."

"Loestrin Fe did a lot better than the 'Lo Loestrin Fe.' I only got this prescription because my insurance covers it, and it's similar to what I was taking before-just less hormones. (They apparently discontinued the birth control I used to take.) Since I've been on this one, I've been a little moodier, more acne, breast tenderness, and cramping without periods. I've lost weight and my cup/bra size actually got smaller. Honestly, it's starting to freak me out a bit because I haven't been this tender with a birth control, only while pregnant with my two children. I take it as it's prescribed-same time, every day, never skipping a dose. Hitting my 3rd month on it, no periods or spotting at all."

"So the first time I was on the pill, I was put on Beyaz. Beyaz made me gain about 15 lbs. It made me crazy with mood swings. I got off of it within 6 months. After that, I would go back and forth on whether to get back on birth control. So about a month and a half ago, I decided to go to the doctor for a check-up. I told my doctor about my experience with Beyaz. He told me that he had the perfect birth control for me, Lo Loestrin Fe. I was scared to take it, but it was worth a shot. If anything, this birth control has made my weight stick. I have had NO mood swings. No weight gain. The only symptoms I've had were going from a C cup to a D cup and breast tenderness near my period, which is overall normal for me. This is the best birth control by far."

"I've been on this pill for 4 months, and I really like it. The first month, I had some breakthrough bleeding, but that has gone away. Now I have no periods at all, which I don't mind. No weight gain or bloating. I have had some acne, but it is minimal. It is worth the $45 a month I am paying."

"Excellent! Do not be afraid of the reviews. Everyone is different. I'm 47, tried others, but this is by far the best! No weight gain, less mood swings, overall fantastic. Biggest challenge is taking the pill at the same time every day."

"I recently started my second pack, and I couldn't be happier! I had taken two different kinds of birth control in the past, and they made my vagina very dry and had no desire for sex. With this medication, I'm wet and in the mood for sex. I haven't had any side effects except for mood swings for the first three days. I would strongly recommend Lo Loestrin Fe."

"DO NOT TAKE THIS PILL! I started Lo Loestrin Fe when I was 17 due to extremely random periods. The first year on the pill was great; however, around year 2, it started going downhill. I started having extreme bad burning and irritation down there, and I felt like I constantly had a yeast infection. After a year of constant OBGYN visits, I was diagnosed with vulvodynia. Vulvodynia is nerve pain and damage on your vulva! I was miserable! On top of all of this, I started having severe pain in my side and learned my gallbladder was only functioning at 11%, and I had to get my gallbladder removed at only 19 years old. Turns out Lo Lo gave me the side effects of both of these issues: vulvodynia and gallbladder disease. Six months after stopping this pill, my vulvodynia was GONE! However, I still don’t have a gallbladder, thanks to this horrible birth control! DO NOT TAKE THIS!"

"I have been on this birth control for a year now. It's the first one that has worked out great for me. I understand that all birth controls will react differently with most women. As far as my experience, they have been pleasant. The side effects for me are moodiness and no periods. My last full period was about 4-5 months ago, and that period was the longest I ever had, lasting at least a week. Since then, no period. My moods are very high and very low. This is my only dislike if I had to choose. Then again, I believe aging comes with that as well since our bodies are continually changing. I haven't experienced weight gain or bad acne. Overall, it's worked for me."

"I'm not too sure how to rate it, so I'm going with a 7. I am taking it for HRT and severe moods with PMS. It has helped my moods immensely! I am so pleased with this. However, I have acne now, and I never have acne, so I know it’s from this. I am on my second month. I am also finding it hard to lose weight, but this could be from drinking alcohol. I’m not fully sure. I will stick with it though, and I'm really hoping the acne and weight issues go away."

"I was previously on Sprintec and didn't realize how depressed Sprintec made me feel until I switched to Lo Loestrin Fe. This one is so much better for me! I don't notice any side effects other than a slightly decreased sex drive. I no longer get a period, which is a plus. Not much to say other than it treats me well."
