"My insurance company tried to get my pharmacist to switch my prescription to Blisovi even though I am a long-term happy Microgestin user. As many of you know, switching birth controls (even ones that are supposed to be medically equivalent) can result in a lot of side effects, which I did not want to risk. I called the pharmacist and asked her to switch back the prescription, even if it had to be ordered. She then checked and found the Microgestin is covered by my insurance in the first place! The switch occurred because Blisovi is cheaper, and my insurance company wanted to save money. While I think it's reprehensible that insurance is ever involved in the drug decision-making, DO NOT LET THEM SWITCH YOUR MEDICATIONS WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION. With the Affordable Care Act, most generic birth controls are covered by insurance, including Microgestin. I found checking prescriptions online before traveling to the pharmacy helps a lot, so you are not rushed to a decision."

"So this is the first oral contraceptive I’ve used, but I can honestly say that for the most part, I would recommend it. Since being on this medication, I have lost weight, experienced relief from the killer cramps I have before, protected myself from pregnancy, and have little to no period. I will say the downside is my PMS week. I feel very depressed sometimes, and I break out, but it’s only during that week. Typically, it’s around the chin area when I break out, so I know it’s definitely hormonal. For the most part, it’s not so bad!"

"Most definitely would recommend! Been taking Blisovi for about a year. I have no side effects, it actually has cleared my acne, and I have had no issues with this BC. Additionally, it has definitely regulated my cycles."

"Like many others, I was given Blisovi by my local pharmacy to replace another brand. On Blisovi, I couldn't stay awake, had no sex drive, my boobs were constantly sore, and my head was always pounding. I also was starting to get acne on my face and painful boils in my panty-line area. I took my blood pressure at a drug store, and it was high. I purchased a BP monitor to keep track of my BP, and it averaged 150/82, which is pretty bad. I stopped taking the birth control, began feeling better, and all my bad symptoms were gone in a week, BP back to normal. I called my doctor, and he ordered me Microgestin at my pharmacy. Never again will I use Blisovi; it was the worst birth control I've ever taken."

"I have been taking the Junel Fe, and that one was perfect for me, but I recently switched pharmacies and the pharmacy did not have Junel, only Blisovi, so I gave it a try for two months, almost on my third, and it is terrible! I have mood swings that I just can't control. Acne is starting to appear in places I’ve never seen, and I’ve been really dehydrated-not that water is bad, but I drink more than usual. I’m gonna switch back to Junel. I don’t recommend Blisovi to anybody."

"This is the first birth control I have ever taken due to everyone telling me how bad it is and all the false things they tell you! I had my fourth baby in January of '17, and I started taking Blisovi Fe 1.5/30. The first two months were bad because I had migraines in the middle of when my period was supposed to happen, and it did, it was normal, but I never had a headache like that since I was a child. I said to my husband I'm going to try next month and see what happens. He told me to get off of it because he could barely see me the way I was, but I got used to it. I feel just like I did before... I have a normal period, no headache, no weight gain... nothing!"

"I have been taking Blisovi for two months, only because Microgestin is no longer available at my pharmacy. As they often do, the pharmacist assured me this generic was 'exactly the same' as Microgestin. Within the past two months, a dark line has appeared around my lips, I have been EXTREMELY emotional, my anxiety has been at an all-time high for no reason, my sex drive has plummeted, and I've gained 3 pounds (not an alarming amount, but I work out religiously, and my weight has always been very consistent). I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do, but I am NOT taking Blisovi anymore. For those of you reading this who take Blisovi and are feeling the same way: you're not crazy, and you're not alone. If anyone is reading this and considering starting Blisovi: do yourself a favor and stay far, far away."

"This pill has not helped me from the start. Just writing this comment to tell you what happened to me. I have been nauseous (to a serious extreme), depressed, anxious, tired, dizzy (I fainted). Yeah, I fainted, passed out on the ground, peed my pants while it happened too?! At 23 years old, perfectly healthy human. Might work differently for you, but just sharing my experience. Also, been on it for 4+ months because I know your body needs to adjust. Well, people, that did not happen for me, everything just kept getting worse. This pill's a no-go from me. Time for me to try my 4th birth control, starting to think birth control just isn’t for me."

"I've been on this birth control for three months now, I've noticed the first day of my period I have annoying headaches all day. I'm very moody, everything angers me. I also noticed I have a lot of acne when I've never had a problem with acne before. My breasts are so super sensitive. As for the periods, they are light, but the cramps still hurt pretty bad, and it worsens at night when I'm trying to sleep. Probably going to switch to a new birth control."

"I've gained 14 lbs in under two months since I started this medication. The weight gain increases even with significant diet restrictions that were not necessary prior to taking this medication. I have terrible moods, and also I've started getting acne that also was not there before this medication. It may be wonderful for some women, but for me, it is terrible."

"I am now on my second pack of Blisovi, and it has stopped my period already. My periods personally were so awful and sometimes unbearable. I was on Taytulla, which is a lower dose, both controlled, and it wasn’t doing any good. I switched to this one, and sadly, I’ve gained a little, and anxiety is worse, especially at night. But it has helped with my period, so I’m kinda 50/50 on recommending this pill! But it works differently for everyone!"

"I appreciate everyone else's reviews of this medication, it validates me where I thought I was alone. The pharmacy advised prior standard birth control was no longer available and it was 'the same,' and thus I was provided Blisovi. After 3 months, I've gone up 2 pant sizes and look pregnant with a distended belly! I have had abdominal cramping and terrible PMS. My flow used to last 2-3 days, it's up to 5 days on this terrible pill. I would not recommend anyone even trial with this medication. I gave it two stars since it does prevent pregnancy -- oh, my sex drive is lower, so that can impact pregnancy too."

"I was having bleeding and cramping issues while on a low-dose hormone pill. My doctor insisted it was because my hormones were not balanced, and she switched me to this full hormone pill. Not only did my symptoms not go away, but now I'm experiencing headaches, nausea, depression, suicidal ideations, GI problems, anxiety, constant bloating, rashes, weight gain, and massive mood swings. This is by far the worst birth control I've ever been on. I'm 36, and I've been through the patch, Paragard, Isobloom, Ortho Tricyclen Low, along with a number of generic versions. I do not recommend this pill."

"I’ve been taking this birth control for a bit now, and I can already tell a difference in myself. I am an upbeat, fun person, and ever since taking this, I feel sad, lonely, and depressed. I feel like I’m always trying to reach out for comfort for something that’s not there. I honestly don’t know how to explain it. I don’t feel like myself. I feel like a completely different person. It’s almost like I’m having an out-of-body experience like I don’t feel like I’m me? I know everyone is different when it comes to things like this. Some people are fine, but then you have people like me. I definitely would watch taking it and notice the signs before it gets too bad."

"The first day I started Blisovi Fe 1.5/30, my anxiety started skyrocketing. Every day I was on it for the week after that, I had to make a large effort to ward off panic attacks and to manage my physical symptoms. My libido also decreased, likely in part because I was feeling so bad, but also in part I think due to the hormones. This pill did not work for me. Since stopping it, I feel like my normal self again."

"So I had to change my previous medication because it made me bleed 2 months straight. Blisovi FE has been amazing for 7-8 months and none of that! My periods are average to light now. I have not noticed any weight changes, but my acne also sadly has not gotten any better or worse (except for period time). I'm still able to lose and keep weight off if I try! So don't be worried about that, make sure you give your body time to adjust (my previous one I was on for 5 months when the bleeding started, so I adjusted then to that! So it can always get better or worse, just try to see :)"

"After my pharmacy stopped carrying Microgestin, they switched me to Blisovi without asking. I took it because it is the same dosage, but my body acts completely different to it. I have not gained weight, but I am constantly tired. I have deep, painful acne, although it says this can be used to clear acne. Generally, I had clear skin before taking this pill, with the exception of my period week. My periods are very light and only last around three days, but it is never three consecutive days. I will have it like Tuesday, Wednesday, then Friday. Maybe that is just my body, but I have to act like I am on my period all week due to the inconsistency. I do not like this pill, and frankly, I blame it for my acne and fatigue. I have been on it 4-5 months, and I also have trouble staying lubricated during sex, which leads to severe soreness and vaginal tears. I did not have this problem before."

"I took this Blisovi Fe 1.5/30 pill for 11 days and had intense panic attacks, increased depression, and super dark thoughts. I couldn't sleep, and I barely ate or drank anything because my anxiety was so high. A family member had to call in sick to work on the last day I took it because they were afraid to leave me alone. Constant crying spells after the 6th day of taking the pill and also very intense rage that wasn't justified. I don't think it's a very good pill; I've been on a few and didn't experience anything like this. Another very bad side effect I didn't have on any other pills is my blood pressure went from the high side of normal to level 2 hypertension. I don't know if that's from the medicine or from the constant panic I felt. Would not recommend."

"I asked my GYN to give me a low-dose BC pill because my period cramps are the worst. I've been on this since July, and honestly, some things I've experienced are a decreased libido, and my breasts grew from a 38B to a 40C. I have intermittent vaginal aching. I don't know if me always wanting to snack is from the pill because I have always been a foodie."

"I just recently switched to Blisovi Fe 1.5/30 from a different birth control, and I can say this one isn’t much better. I switched last time for throwing up at night, however, now I have extreme nausea every morning. I wake up with this one. It’s getting worse and worse each morning."

"Just recently started taking birth control for the first time. So far, it hasn't been that bad. A little bloated, tenderness in the breast area, slightly nauseated at times, but honestly nothing unbearable. It comes with the territory of having a menstrual cycle. Hopefully, it works, and unlike most people, I don't have to try many to find one that works well. Best of wishes."

"I have been on this medication for two weeks now. I have experienced a lot of positive results. My skin did start with a few breakouts, but they cleared up within a couple of days. My skin is now extremely clear. I have not experienced spotting or cramping before my period. I was on Microgestin Fe 1.5/30 prior to Blisovi, and after a one-year hiatus from birth control, I decided to try Lo Loestrin. It was terrible!! So I called my doctor to put me on Micro again, and when I got to the pharmacy, they gave me Blisovi. So far, it’s great!"

"I am 19, and I have been on this birth control for over a year now. I was originally on a lower dose, but since I kept getting my period on days other than the placebo pills, the doctors upped my dosage. For the past year, I have dealt with higher levels of anxiety, terrible bloating to the point where I can only eat once or twice a day, and mild depression. The mood swings are horrible. I am switching as soon as possible. I don’t recommend it, it has been the worst year."

"I am going on three months on this pill. I didn't take BC for 6 years, then got on this one. I have noticed bad headaches when I am supposed to be on my period week, as well as some weight gain. I am petite and have noticed my boobs go a whole cup size. I also haven't really had a period for two months-just spotting and very light for 2-3 days, not enough to even wear a tampon. I also have noticed bad acne breakouts, I might reconsider this pill."

"I was afraid I'd experience some of the adverse effects some of the reviewers on here have gone through, but the ones I've had are definitely minor and manageable. During the first few months, I would randomly experience a bit of nausea in the middle of the night and sometimes immediately after waking up in the morning, which rarely happens now. I take this BC a few hours before bed and have never experienced nausea during the daytime. The only other difference I've noticed in the beginning was my emotions going from 0 to 100, which would end up with me crying for no reason (only happened about once a month?). I've had no changes in weight or acne amount (still kind of slim with little to no acne). Used to experience bad cramps and incredibly heavy periods, and now no cramping and normal periods! Worth the minor side effects for me."
