For Birth Control "After trying every pill imaginable, my doctor finally allowed me to try the patch. 1. As far as emotional side effects: very little. I have anxiety and depression as is, and Xulane doesn't seem to exaggerate my usual symptoms. The only noticeable change is the first day that I take the patch off for my 'off week,' but my emotions seem to even back out once I become well-rested and relaxed. 2. Physical side effects: minor, temporary headaches. Didn't gain weight, but that's because I have been nauseous for the whole year that I've been on it. I can go all day, do whatever and eat whatever I want, but the second I lay down to go to sleep I break out in sweat and dry heave 2-3 times a week. BUT, on the bright side, I'm not pregnant and my periods are practically nonexistent. So I guess it's better than morning sickness and a baby that I'm not ready for yet!"

For Birth Control "I have been on the patch for a month. For the first 2 weeks, I was fine, it just made me extra hungry and tired. The patch was also placed on my right arm then. Later on, in the third week, it was the worst, I placed it on my lower abdomen. I was feeling so nauseous and sick to my stomach. I could barely even eat, so I took the patch right off."

For Birth Control "I'm 18, 5 feet tall, and this was my first experience with birth control.... worst possible choice. I put it on the day I started my period, as it stated in the official instructions, and I went to bed that night feeling just... off. A little woozy and very fatigued. I woke up that next morning sick to my stomach. I didn't even eat anything or even drink water before I started vomiting. I couldn't hold down water, tea, saltines, nothing. I kept throwing up for 2 hours before I took myself to the hospital to make the nausea and vomiting stop. I took the patch off before I went, and the next day I woke up feeling so much better. I thought it would be an easy method, just change it every week on the same day, but NO. I would not recommend this to anyone. The nausea, dizziness, and overall crappy body feeling is just not worth it. I could not imagine dealing with that for at least a MONTH after starting when I couldn't even handle one day. I am terrified of starting another birth control now."

For Birth Control "I had very mild periods before starting Xulane. Now they are horrible. Severe cramps, 11-day period. Nausea, loss of appetite, hot flashes, and cramps for weeks on end now even after being off of it for a full cycle."

For Birth Control "Honestly, I feel like you have to give the Xulane birth control time. At first, I became super nauseous to the point where simply walking through certain aisles at the grocery store had me telling my husband we had to go before I vomit. Also, sudden sadness appeared? Had me feeling sad out of nowhere, for no reason. That’s when I considered changing, then, I thought it’s just been a week and my first time ever on BC, and after about 1 1/2 months, I was back to my normal self. I’ve been on the patch going on about 2 years now. Although it isn't 100% perfect, because I do, out of the random, get nauseous out of nowhere, it does its job without worrying about taking the pill every day or putting something in your skin. You can also get into the pool with it as long as you’re not swimming wild, you're good to go! Just always give it a check, follow the instructions on how to apply, and you’ll be good!!"

For Birth Control "I just tried the Xulane patch for the first time, and I couldn't even make it through the first week, my symptoms were so bad. I felt overwhelming nausea, headaches, hot flashes, and gained 10 lbs in a week despite eating normally. I respect people who do fine with the patch, but it was not for me! I'd been on the pill and had Nexplanon before that, and while they both made me a bit moodier and full of acne, they were nothing like the patch. Next step for me will be trying the copper IUD, since hormonal birth control does not seem to be working well for me."

For Birth Control "My doctor prescribed the patch for me to take continuously to avoid getting a period because in the last year or so I have had horrible periods where I would be stuck in bed or had to be near a bathroom for several days. I did oral birth control (low dose) the same way before but had to stop due to nausea. I had the first patch on for about 8 hours until I got nauseous. I left it on overnight hoping the nausea would subside. It did not. I also had trouble sleeping and had horrible nightmares. I took it off after about 24 hours of wear and had a burning red mark where the patch had been. I may try it again in a different part of my cycle, but for now, I am leaving it off. I don’t want to feel like I am having a period all month and then not even have one. I’m bummed that this gave me a bad reaction."

For Birth Control "Within the first two days, I became nauseous. Thinking I could stick it out, I kept going, but I started throwing up every couple of hours and had to go home sick. After less than a week and some of the worst nausea of my life that only kept getting worse, I took off the patch. Awful experience."

For Birth Control "This birth control has been great for me. I have been using it for about 3 months now. The only thing I've noticed is that sometimes I get mood swings. I haven't gotten nausea or thrown up due to the patch, but I have gotten normal period-like cramps when I first put it on or change it out. I also noticed the first month I seemed to get headaches frequently, but they weren't severe, and I could deal with them easily."

For Birth Control "I have been on Xulane for two months. The first month I had minimal side effects, mostly just small bumps at the site after I changed to a new patch site. Well, for the past week, I have been having severe headaches, nausea, and last night I was experiencing dizziness while lying in bed. And then when I stood up, I thought I was going to pass out. Of course, my brain went to maybe I have a brain tumor or something else because I hadn’t had problems the previous month. I saw others experienced dizziness, nausea, severe headaches that didn’t go away with Tylenol or Motrin, and also balance issues. So I took the patch off and went to sleep. I also experienced severe fatigue and would get extremely tired and was sleeping all the time. I also gained 10 pounds in two months. I woke up after not having the patch on for seven hours. I woke up, no more headaches, nausea, or dizziness. I liked the ease of just changing the patch once a week, but the side effects were too much for me."

For Birth Control "I’ve used this method of birth control for about 6 months now. I’ve had the worst nausea and headaches, plus the week when I’m not using the patch, I’m constantly sick. I do not recommend this for anyone!"

For Birth Control "I had the implant in my arm last year, but I started to have long periods (7-10 days) and redness and tenderness at the implant site. I had it removed and started Xulane in November 2017. I began to have very long periods that progressively became worse each month, to the point that as of Feb 12 I haven’t stopped bleeding. I also had extreme nausea and vomiting. I just had my doc put me on the pill 14 days ago. I’m still bleeding. This sucks..."

For Birth Control "I'm on month one of Xulane, my last patch of the month. I love this method 'cause it's so easy. BUT let me tell you, I get the craziest mood swings, and my emotions are all over the place. There are days when I'm randomly sad over the silliest things or just don't want to deal with people, PMS but times ten! I get nausea here and there too, not too often, but when I do, it really sucks. My breasts are extremely tender, sometimes I'll wake up in the morning to my boobs feeling so heavy and sensitive. Also, my appetite... I eat a lot! Now for my periods, I haven't gotten it, but most of the time I feel like I'm on it. I'll get minor cramps or get bloated and fatigued. I will probably get off the patch, which is unfortunate 'cause of how easy it is, but it's just not for me. I have every negative symptom."

For Birth Control "Wasn't bad with side effects, except for some nausea the first few days of starting to use it. However, I got pregnant 3 months after using it. Gave birth to my baby recently, which my hubby and I are so grateful for and in love. But if you're looking to not have a surprise pregnancy, I would say consider something else."

For Birth Control "So far, so good. Honestly, I’m happy with this so far. This is my third week, no symptoms or crazy side effects, maybe a little nausea, but that goes away shortly after. Just waiting to see how my patch-free week will be. I’ve never had crazy menstrual cramps before, so we’ll see how this is going to play out. By the way, I’m 5’4”, 147 lbs, and I’m 28 years old, if that."

For Birth Control "I was on Xulane for over a year. When I first started the patch, I felt nauseous and had a headache the first 3-5 days. Then after, it stopped, and I had no side effects whatsoever. My period has always been 7 days, so it didn't fix my long abnormal period, but it did fix my acne, and it did not affect my mood. Also, I never got pregnant! This birth control was awesome, I only had to change it once a week. The only con was where to place it. During the summer, I had to hide it on my buttock, and sometimes it would show when my bikini would rise up. In the winter, it was on my arm, and sometimes I would forget, and that's how my parents found out I was on birth control. Also, it comes off easily if you take daily baths or swim in the ocean."

For Birth Control "I started Xulane on a Sunday. Monday woke up super hyper and keyed up. Around supper time, I get so fatigued I can barely keep my eyes open. Started spotting Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday night, fatigued again. Started losing my appetite. Weds, full-blown bleeding, cramps, nausea...felt horrible! Ended up leaving work early because I felt so bad and my anxiety was high. Thursday, heavy bleeding and living like I'm pregnant on Saltines and Sprite. The nausea was constant. Felt so tired. Couldn't concentrate and felt dizzy every time I moved. Ended up leaving work early again because I had a sudden panic attack: couldn't breathe, my extremities and face went numb, crying hysterically, and felt like I was going to puke. Once it passed, I was so tired I slept for hours. Friday, I woke up with a headache and anxiety is already in full force. I ripped the thing off. I would rather see how I do without it than do this. DO NOT recommend at all!"

For Birth Control "Didn't want to be on any birth control. In the past, I've been on the shot, the pill, NuvaRing, hated it all. Gyno said I should be on BC, so now I'm on the patch. Been on it less than a month, and it's a terrible experience. I'm throwing up all the time, stomach hurts, boobs hurt so bad, so moody I don't want to be around myself (can go from crying because it's the most ridiculous thing to wanting to rip somebody's face off for breathing in seconds). When I think I'm done bleeding, it starts right back up. I eat everything because I'm always starving, and I'm breaking out. :("

For Birth Control "I have 3 months on the Xulane patch. The first week on the patch was horrible, with heart racing, nausea, headaches, itching on the patch site, and painful breasts. I didn't want to give up on it that fast, so I decided to suck it up and give it a chance."

For Birth Control "First 6 months of using the Xulane patch are chaotic. Nausea, headaches, random cramps/spotting, and overall uncomfortable side effects. After the 6-month peak, you start feeling normal again. Period “regularity,” clean skin, lighter/less cramps, and bigger breasts/butt. Only true unexpected issue is the patch partially detaching recently, but that may be from using the same spots over and over. First cycle using, I had the worst cramps of my life. The cramps ease over time. I overall recommend."

For Birth Control "In the past, I have tried contraceptive pills. The first one made me depressed, the second one made me really tired and nauseous. I went completely off birth control (BC) for several months after that, but after a pregnancy scare, my husband and I decided I should go back on BC. I wanted something that would be good for petite people and had heard the patch was great for small women. The first month was interesting, as I had nausea and I was extremely emotional. After a while, I wasn't bothered by the patch as much, and it helped my periods become lighter with less cramps, and I only have to change it once a week! The negatives would be that I feel fatigued most of the time and have had sudden weight gain. I still wish there were better birth control options out there, but this one has been the best for me so far."

For Birth Control "I am giving it a 7 because it didn't work for me, but it is a great form of birth control. I put it on after my period ended. I went to bed that night and woke up at 3 a.m. throwing up. I took anti-nausea medicine and continued throwing up for an hour until I fell back asleep, only to wake up a few hours later to throw up more. I thought it was the stomach flu, but in the morning I took it off. I continued throwing up after I took it off for a day or two, and I was green for three days. I wanted to know if it really was the patch, so I waited a month and tried it again. The day went by fine, but again I woke up in the middle of the night vomiting. I asked my OB-GYN about it, she said I must be sensitive to estrogen, so I should avoid birth controls with it. I have a hormonal IUD and it works amazingly for me. All I want to say is that this is a great form of BC, but if it (or other estrogen-only birth controls) don't work out for you, don't give up and try something new."

For Birth Control "The first day I put the patch on (Friday), after a few hours, I started randomly crying for no reason. I had hot flashes and would shake and get cold. I started feeling spaced out and weird. My body is sensitive, so I wasn't surprised. Saturday morning, I woke up out of a sleep and was so nauseous. I went to urgent care, and they gave me Zofran, after that, I was fine. Every now and then, I’d get nauseous and have a weird feeling in my stomach, but my body was just adjusting. I didn’t want to take the patch off right away in case this might be good for me. After a few days, I started feeling better-I was worried I would have these symptoms every time a new patch goes on. Yesterday marked one week, I took the patch off and had a small rash. I put a new one on another part of my body and woke up with no symptoms. My face seems like it has more acne, but I’m not sure if it’s from the patch. I'm usually acne-prone. The great thing about the patch is that if you ever want to stop, you can just take it off."
