Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "I started the patch a month ago. I am still bleeding non-stop, really bad cramps, started having bad mood swings, and it makes me want to eat all day. I was on the Depo shot before the patch, I loved the shot way better. I've been off Depo for a year and a half before I got on anything else. My period just finally became normal, but they suggested the patch as a birth control because I wasn't on anything. But so far, I absolutely hate it."

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "Now, if you're going to start a birth control, please, and I mean please, do your research because not every birth control is accurate or even worth it. I usually get a 7-day menstrual cycle. I literally have my period for almost a month, and to top it off, my doctor tells me, oh hey, you're pregnant! How is that possible? So now my significant other and I are confused as to how we are pregnant if we didn't even have intercourse around the time of it because, for one, I'm on the patch and I'm still bleeding. Someone help me understand, and I beg you ladies, research your contraceptives."

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "I've had an awful year with my cycle. Last October I got the Depo (the injection) and was due to get my 2nd one in January. But I passed because from the end of November 2015 until April 2016 I had constant bleeding every day from 9-1 and 4-8. It finally stopped, and I went May, June, and July with no period, it was great. But then I got it back at the end of July, and the pain was unbearable. It went on for 2 weeks. I rang my doctor, explained everything, and she has put me on the patch. So far, I love it. This is only my 3rd week, so still early days, but my cycle is starting to return to normal. The only side effect I'm having is I'm very low on energy, but nothing a Berocca or two won't cure."

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "I absolutely love Ortho Evra. I'd never used a hormonal birth control before, and being super flighty, I knew I couldn't be trusted to take the pill. I originally started off with the ring, which resulted in non-stop crying, non-stop cramping, and constant breakthrough bleeding. Even though the patch and the ring use the same exact hormones in extremely similar dosages, I decided to give the patch a shot. Instantly, I felt worlds better. My period was regular, which was the first time I'd ever had a regular period in my entire life. They're not lighter by any means, but I'll take five days of heavy bleeding over a month of it! Only problem? The patch is prone to coming off if your skin gets very warm and clothing rubs on it, unfortunately!"

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "After experiencing nausea from standard birth control pills that often resulted in throwing up the pill, I switched to this form of birth control about a year ago. I prefer this method because there is no way for me to throw it up. However, there are several downsides to this form of birth control. Recently, I forgot to apply the patch for about three days, and I started bleeding heavily. It was the heaviest bleeding I have ever experienced, and it occurred two weeks earlier than my expected period. After applying the patch, I experienced severe nausea, which lasted throughout the night. I had to leave my bed every hour due to the intensity of the nausea. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this form of birth control unless you cannot take pills due to the inability to keep them down. The symptoms associated with this birth control method are not worth it."

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "I have PCOS with hair loss. A month after starting this, my hair stopped falling out. The only thing is I get breakthrough bleeding. I haven't had issues with the patch falling off. I put it in my lower abdomen just above my thigh and switch sides every week. By lower, I mean my underwear covers it low, by my pubes low (sorry). If anything, it doesn't want to come off. Just make sure there's no lotion applied there and wipe the skin with a paper towel to absorb any dirt or oil before applying. Remember it can take 3-6 months for your body to adjust to the hormones from any hormonal BC method."

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "Been on the patch for about one month, and I have had little to no issues with Xulane. I was weary at first about wearing a patch for 7 days without it falling off. Did not fall off once, but it does lift after a few days. Recommend placing a Tegaderm bandage on top of it if you sweat or work out frequently. Haven’t had any changes in weight or mood swings, which I enjoy. The only thing that I don’t enjoy is the breakthrough bleeding, which is common within the first three months. Besides that, I am loving the patch so far! Way better than the pill for me personally."

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "I was surprised to see how many people reacted negatively to this birth control. Before I was prescribed Xulane, I was having bleeding between periods that was as heavy and painful as an actual period. My doctor said that this would help regulate my cycle. After the first month, I had no problems with spotting-so that was exciting! I am not sexually active, so I cannot speak to the effectiveness in preventing pregnancy. The first month of using the patch was not a huge deal. I had LOTS of tenderness in my breasts, but they grew about a cup size, so I was not complaining. I have had no weight gain, acne, etc. The only thing that I have been wondering about is the day I change my patch, I have noticed a little more irritability, but I am not sure if that is directly related to Xulane. Overall, I am SO happy with this birth control. I know exactly when/how long my periods will last, and I can't remember the last time I had cramping!"

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "The first month I was on the patch, I bled for the entire month and was completely miserable. My second patch also fell off 10 minutes after I put it on, so I had to use my third patch and then wear it for 8 days because I had to get my next prescription a week early. The next month, my period was lighter, but I got it twice, both shorter than my usual 8-day cycle. This third month, I've had unbelievable cramps that no medicine will relieve and incredible nausea. On the bright side, I'm not pregnant, though I'm not sexually active, and my acne has cleared up a lot. Not sure if it's worth it, though."

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "So, I started the patch in late January, and at first, I felt terrible! Slowly, the terrible feeling went away, and I started my first period with the patch. The cramps were so bad! I couldn't do anything for the first day because moving made the cramping stronger. Also, my bleeding went from 3 tampons a day to using 2 tampons every eight hours and still leaking. I tried working out and eating healthier because my doctor told me that could help. NOPE! My bleeding has slowly become even worse. The only good thing about the patch is I'm not pregnant!!"

For Birth Control "When I was on it the first year, no problems. Now Pros - don't get pregnant, easy to use, cheap, good sex drive. Cons - bad cramps, heavy bleeding/longer 8-day period, makes my arms numb, makes my shoulder blades hurt, night sweats/chills at 2 a.m. every night (soaking wet sweat), also swelling at night. I used to love it, but now I'm worried about my health. I'm only 21 years old."

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "The first month I started the patch, I had breakthrough bleeding for about a month. And every time I put a new patch, I get very nauseated and extremely bloated. Those are the only negative side effects I still have even after 4 months of being on it. But it does its job as a contraceptive, easy to use, and easy to remember."

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "Breasts got bigger and heavier, spots every day, bled for a week prior to my patch-free week, I feel uncomfortable and heavy. I want to go to the gym and I don’t feel like I can because my bra is so tight, I was starting to lose weight, do I sound like a happy bunny? Absolute jokes. I’ve heard that they settle down after a while, we’ll see."

Ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin for Birth Control "I was on the patch for almost six months, and at first, it helped, but after the second period, it didn't work. I got really bad cramps, I was bleeding heavily like I did before, followed by every other period after that. I was on birth control, and my OB/GYN switched me to the patch because I gained 20 lbs in a year! Followed by a lecture on how to eat right. Well, switching to the patch, I lost 4 lbs! Also, I got very bad headaches from the patch, and I just couldn't take it anymore, I had to switch back to the pills!"
