Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I am 33 years old and have been using the Ortho Evra transdermal patch for approximately 16 months. I ran out of the patches so I had a gap and started the cycle again. Every thing seemed ok, my periods were normal and all well for the first year. The last 4 months of using the patches I started with medical problems. I had fatigue, dizziness, irregular periods and very heavy, headaches, tiredness. I fainted and then after that it went down hill. I knew something was wrong but never linked it to the patches. It progressed and I ended up with the most severe headache, sickness, etc. I was sent to the hospital via ambulance and it turns out they think the patches caused a TIA (mini stroke). I stayed in over night and am waiting for my MRI appointment to come through to see if any long term damage, blood clots etc. The hospitals recommendation was to remove the patch immediately and never use it again. So I definitely don't recommend it. It is too risky."

Zafemy (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I tried Zafemy for about 2 months, and during this time period, I was bleeding nonstop. I had headaches from whenever I woke up to whenever I went to sleep. Zafemy even made my chest break out, it was all red with a rash, and I had bad acne. The rash and acne went away eventually. I didn't relate the side effects to the birth control. Both the rashes and acne appeared again so I went to the doctors to see what was going on, and they said it was the birth control that was causing it. I was put on Xulane and I absolutely love it! I have no problems with it, no acne, no weight gain, no rashes nothing! the only side effect is being a little nauseous. but other than that I love this birth control."

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I have been on birth since I was 14 or 15 to contol my period . I have been on the pill, the ring, and the shot. The shot was the devil and while on the shot I went to my gyn and told her I wouldn't stop bleeding and I wanted to stop the shot and I told her I wanted to try the patch . I was going to wait for the shot to wear off because I have 5 more weeks but I couldn't take the bleeding so I put on the patch on a Sunday a couple hours later the bleeding stopped !! I love love the patch it is easy to remember the only problem I have had the last 2 patch is it left my skin irritated but its my fault because I shaved the area before I put on the patch"

Xulane (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "This is the first review I've ever wrote in life. I say that to say, this is how horrible Xulane is, so bad that I had to write a review about it. I started the patch 3 weeks ago. I was very excited because I didn't have to take pills, which means you have to remember to take them everyday. With the patch you just have to wear/change them once a week. First week of using the patch I notice a difference in my body. I was very nauseous, migraines was almost everyday, and loss of appetite. Second week, I was very very emotional, I would cry for no reason along with being very moody. I'm literally nauseous everyday now, I have vomit a few times. Long story short, I have pregnant symptoms. STAY AWAY FROM THE PATCH!! It's horrible!"

Xulane (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "So I've always sucked at taking the pill, I would always forget. I had Mirena and really didn't like it, had nuva ring and same thing. And Nexaplanon was the worst of them all. I won't go into details but they all failed me in one way or another. Xulane has been the only birth control where I really have zero complaints. It is very easy to manage. When I was taking the pill I ended up pregnant at 18 because I wasn't diligent about taking at the same time or forgetting to take it. Xulane has made my cystic acne clear up almost completely . I've been on it for almost 6 months now and I won't be changing it. I recommend this to anyone thats struggled with other forms of birth control. I wish I would have tried this sooner"

Xulane (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I've been on the patch one month, a complete cycle. I started after my first ever miscarriage, so I was a little weary and nervous of how my periods were going to be since I have been bleeding off and on the past 2-3 months! Xulane works amazing for me!! My period is shorter and lighter but I still spot a few times which was expected. But I have literally had no other side effects! I forget it is there! I alternate putting it on each side of my back, above my pants line but below my bra line so no irritation. It has never fallen off, even with bathtubs I had no issues. I have seen a lot of negative comments but I truly think it is just how your body will handle it. The patch is amazing for me, but the pill makes me so sick. I recommend!!"

Xulane (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I first put on the Xulane patch on my right arm and immediately felt nauseous. Every time I put the patch on after a patch free week I feel nauseous. It feels terrible. I've been craving everything and starving! I had just gotten off of Larin Fe pill and moved onto the patch and I deeply regret it. Also its left a rash and everywhere I've put it has been burning, oozing and it is itchy. I have only been wearing this since October."

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "My boyfriend and I were getting pretty serious so I thought to ask my OB about birth control. I had read about the patch and thought why not, so she prescribed me it and I didn't even need to have an exam. This is my first time using birth control (I'm 16). So far, the patch is awesome. My acne cleared up, and my breasts have grown a bit. When I first started using it, I had some cramps but that may just have been because of my period although the cramps were worse where I had placed the patch. I felt nauseous for about a week but it was intermittent and went away. After that I felt completely fine. And I have discovered that the best place to put the patch is on your hip near your butt, that way it doesn't wrinkle."

Xulane (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I’ve been on Xulane for about two years. During that time, I’ve had almost constant nausea, extreme fatigue, weight gain, and strange chest and abdominal pain. I actually went to the doctor thinking there was something wrong with my heart, as it runs in my family. Though, I am only 23. My sex drive disappeared completely and I found my anxiety to be worse than normal. I spent every ‘new patch’ day vomiting and would sleep by the toilet. This is even AFTER two years. The symptoms have never gone away. My breasts are always swollen and tender. I’ve gone up to an uncomfortable 32G from a 32DD. I would definitely not recommend this to anyone. My body is very sensitive to medicine but this was just too much. I’m finally saying enough and trying something new."

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I've only been on the patch for a few weeks but let me tell you... it's GREAT for anyone who is super sensitive to estrogen or any other hormone replacement! I couldn't even take the lowest dose of birth control because the hormones made my stomach so sick. I was unable to even move for weeks when I took the pill. Started the patch because I have incredibly low estrogen and I haven't had any nausea but a little fatigue. Probably more due to the fact that it's something "new" your body is dealing with. I haven't really had the increased sex drive like a lot of women mention but I definitely feel as though my mood has evened out and I'm less "high and low" like I used to be. Highly recommend this as a form of birth control."

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "So, I've had the patch for 6 years and a half now... I remember my first month with it.. it was crazy! I had some mood swings and terrible headaches, but I decided to be brave and just give it a try since it was my very first birth control, and after 4 weeks all the symptoms went away.... Ever since, I've been super happy with it and I jut love it, I never gained a pound with it, never had mood swings with it, never had a baby hahahar... I wear it on my back swtiching from side to side every week and never had irritation of the skin, it has never fall off in 6 years either.. The only issue is now, after 6 years of it, I'm starting to get some spotting. So... Don't give up so easy on the patch!! haha it's not for everyone but it might be 4U"

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "Before the patch, I was on the pill. I don't know which, but it gave me severe nausea every morning, almost as if I was pregnant. I would have my dad pull the car off to the side of the road for me to vomit in the morning sometimes. When I went off to college I immediately visited my gyno and said I wanted something different. She said the patch is good but very expensive, but I went for it. I have no side effects except for tender breasts. It is hassle free and it is very effective. I keep it on my butt cheek so no one sees, even if I go swimming! I do not think I will ever change from the patch."

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I was on the patch in my teen years for six years, went off for about five and have just stopped it again after another two year time of use. There are many upsides to Evra. During my first experience with Evra, I went off of it because I was trying to deal with fatigue and depression. I will admit that it helped a lot! A few year later I developed cystic acne on my chin and could not fix it naturally. I gathered my hormones were imbalanced and decided to go back on the patch. The first year was great, no side affects and periods were healthy and quick. This year I seem to have a lot of severe mood swings and anxiety episodes- often heart palpitations with chest pressure and shortness of breath. As there is no actual trigger for this and I'm happy in my life, its come down to me once again wondering if the hormones are just too much again. I decided yesterday to quit the patch again and have high hopes of returning back to my usual self!"

Xulane (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "First of all I would just like to say that the fact that this website can change what I write on this review before it is published is stupid. I think the patch should be clear in my opinion because it is not discrete at all. It is white and has yellow lettering written all over it! I am tan so it just stands out. Not thoughtful at all. "

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I was on the patch for 5 years I never had any problems always use it has it was directed. I decided myself to give my body a break and after a month I got pregnant and I was okay with it. But I love the patch thinking about getting back on it."

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "First form of birth control was Zovia. Didn't like it because it made me nauseous all the time. So after a year of being off birth control I decided to try the patch. I like it a lot. No major side effects at all. The only thing is that I did lose my sex drive. Which made me pretty sad but I'd rather deal with that than side effects of other birth controls. I've only been on it for about three months so maybe I still need to wait to adjust. I do feel like I'm gaining weight though. Although I would not completely blame it on the patch because birth control gives you cravings that you can choose to act upon or not. Birth control doesn't make you gain weight. It's what you decide put in your mouth that does. "

Xulane (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I've been on Xulane for several months now and I hadn't had a problem until February, when the patch started to give me huge raised rashes, I tried it on multiple spots on my body, tried washing with different soaps, using different lotions, nothing worked. I feel like they must've switched the adhesive recently, because this problem happened out of the blue and wasn't isolated to one patch (I even got a new package, and still had the same issue occur). I'm really disappointed because I loved this birth control, but I suppose I'll just have to find something new when I have the time. It's really ruined all the skin I've put it on. The skin where the rashes appeared seems to have scarred."

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I’ve been on Evra now for 4/5 years & originally started using it for terrible acne I had. I had been on two oratane courses & nothing worked, so I decided to go onto Evra patch. The past 4/5 years have been really great! My skin cleared up, periods were very regulated and period pains were kept to the minimal. I am now at a crossroad where I don’t know how my hormones work without birth control & have decided to stop using evra & see how my skin reacts. Hopefully my periods will be healthy, even though they might not be as regulated and pain free anymore."

Xulane (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I took this Xulane patch because I struggle with remembering the pill. This was the worst option for me. I started this on a Sunday morning and by Monday night I was having horrible symptoms. I have a very sensitive body and it caused me to throw up nonstop for 5 hours the first night I was on it. I was instructed to remove it immediately from my dr. This is not a good option for people whose bodies are sensitive."

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I had a bad experience with the pills, so I went to the patch. I’ve been on it for a year now, and I have been getting really bad side effects. I have no sex drive anymore and I’m basically going through menopause!! I have severe vaginal atrophy at the age of 18, making the slightest touch on the outside of my vagina excruciatingly painful. What’s the point of using birth control if you can’t / don’t want to have sex anymore. Now I’m going through months of testing to find a diagnosis and treat this issue the patch has left me. Stop using it the first signs of pain you experience- don’t wait as long as I did."

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I've been on the patch for 6-7 years and i love it! It regulated my periods, they dont last as long and not that heavy. I used to get the worst cramps , now i get a little bit on the first day. I went a cup size bigger and i gained 5-10 pounds give or take.. Which isnt a whole lot. I havent had any side effects. I used to have acne but it is all cleared up now I did go off the birth control for a little bit when I started back up I put the patch on too soon and then I ended up having my period for an entire month until the next cycle happens so with my experience and don't put your patch on before you get your period if you're just starting it. I never have any issues the only thing is is the lint that shows up around the patch ."

Ortho Evra (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I really really enjoy using this. I'm 17 and I am now on my period from the 2nd cycle. The only downside is sometimes it would feel like it itches but turns out its the area around it. Also, my cramps are horrid right now but i think this is a very effective contraceptive."

Xulane (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I have been on Xulane for almost 3 years now. I tried the pill and would forget to take it. So my doctor prescribed the patch! It has worked perfectly! Every once in a while I’ll get a minor headache but nothing other than that. I wear it on my lower abdomen and switch sides every week. I would recommend to any woman that doesn’t want to get pregnant right now."

Xulane (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I’m 18 and I started Xulane as my first form of birth control. I thought the patch would be easy but it is the worst :( I would put it on at night feeling totally fine and the next morning I would feel absolutely sick to my stomach. This happened my first time using and after my period I tried it again and it’s the same thing. I didn’t consider my chest pains a side effect until I saw that other women experience it too. I simply cannot function daily and do things like go to work or drive for long periods of time because the nausea is TOO MUCH. I don’t like xulane."

Xulane (ethinyl estradiol / norelgestromin) "I’m on my fourth patch. I’ve found the best place to put it is on your low abdomen, right above where your public hair grows. It doesn’t fall off here for me, I always put it on an hour or two after a shower and don’t shower for at least 24 hours after I put it on and I try to avoid exercise in the first 24 hours after application. I tried putting it on my arm and that did not work at all. I didn’t have any negative symptoms until my third patch, now I’ve been having really bad cramps and really intense breast pain and tenderness. My boobs are always really sore and I’ve noticed as well that they’re really swollen and I’ve gone up at least one cup size. I don’t mind the fact that my boobs are bigger but man, they really hurt. I’m 22 and I’ve tried so many different birth controls since I was 14 but this is the first time I’ve ever had breast tenderness and had them get bigger. This is a really easy birth control method though and I’m okay with the symptoms."
