For Birth Control "I took this medicine for a week, and my migraines were so bad to the point of standing up and almost passing out. I had such bad food cravings and couldn’t stop eating. I stopped taking it, and five days later I got my period, and it was MUCH lighter, so I guess that’s a good thing."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was put on this because I originally had irregular bleeding. Normally, a week before my period, I would spot, have my period for about 3 days, and be done. Since being put on Orsythia, I've already been fully bleeding for 2 weeks plus 1 week of heavy spotting beforehand. Needless to say, I have an emergency OB appointment on Monday to get me on something else that doesn't make this condition worse than it already was. The only two things this helped with were the life-altering cramps/body pains during PMS, and it also did not take away from my sex drive (though I could not even have sex because of the erratic bleeding).... I would NOT recommend this to my worst enemy."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "As I am not sexually active, I cannot state upon the effectiveness of this as a birth control, however, upon taking this, my anxiety and depression flared to the point that my therapist is suggesting medication for that. I have not experienced any odd weight gain, although my hunger signals are off (I do not get hungry nor full anymore). My acne is the same as usual, with no more or less cystic acne. I am choosing to switch birth control brands to see if it will change, but the emotional symptoms are just too much for me to handle."

For Birth Control "I was on this for 2 years, and at first, it was great! It worked great... BUT a few months into it, I noticed I had no sex drive, heavier periods, minor acne flare-ups (I didn't have acne before), and extreme mood swings. A year into it, everyone started thinking I was crazy, so I went to see a psychologist to help my moodiness. A year and a half in, I realized nothing was helping, I was diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression. That was odd to me, being that when I was in high school, I was happy and outgoing. My family blamed my relationship for my unhappiness, but it was the pill. On top of that, I gained 30 lbs within the two years of taking it. Now I'm off that crap, and happier than ever. I'm normal me again, and my relationships with everyone improved!"

For Birth Control "So far, I haven't gotten pregnant, so this medication is doing its job. I have experienced a few side effects. I have a complete loss of appetite (I haven't been hungry in 2 months), and I've lost about 5 pounds. Sex can be painful since I can't seem to produce natural lubrication. My period is barely a period, I wouldn't even call it a 'flow,' and it lasts maybe a day and a half. Most concerning is before starting Orsythia, I had low blood pressure, but after two months, my blood pressure has gone up so much it is technically stage 1 hypertension (despite taking prescription water pills)."

For Ovarian Cysts "I was taking Orsythia for about 2 years, but I switched to a stronger kind, which was the biggest mistake I've ever made. Orsythia did wonders for my acne. I tend to get cystic acne, but when I was on this pill, I would break out maybe once every three months. Also, my ovarian cyst went away, and my periods weren't as painful and a lot lighter. The only thing it didn't help was my anxiety, but it definitely didn't make it worse. I love this pill, but it seems to affect everyone differently, so you won't know unless you try it."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have been on Orsythia for 6 months for controlling dysmenorrhea, or painful periods. Before starting birth control overall two years ago, I missed at least two days of school and work a month because my cramps, backache, nausea, and headaches prevented me from doing more than sitting in bed crying. After Orsythia, I barely get a period, it lasts four days, and I rarely need to use anything more than a pantiliner. I get the occasional cramp, but nothing unmanageable. I love this pill!"

For Birth Control "I’ve used Orsythia for two years without any issues. I have a long history of anxiety, and it has not been affected by the pill, nor have I experienced any nausea. I take it precisely at the same time every day, and it has worked great. I’ve put on a few pounds, but I think everyone should evaluate their diet before blaming the pill. It’s pretty much impossible for a pill to make you gain 20+ pounds unless your diet is unhealthy and you’re lacking exercise. It’s a pretty generic birth control, and I would assume that the horrifying side effects listed by previous reviews are probably rare and true for all birth control on the market. So, give it a try, it’s not a miracle pill, but it’s not an anxiety-inducing weight gain supplement either."

For Birth Control "This BC is great. After suffering from crippling depression from a different BC, they switched me to this. I have been on it for 9 months now. No depression or mood swings. My boobs got bigger, and it did not take away my sex drive. I used to get cramps and go into a depression before my periods, but this BC stopped that. Occasionally, I have some breakthrough spotting. This is a minor issue, though. I am very sensitive to BC, so Orsythia has been a godsend for me."

For Birth Control "I have been on (or was on) Orsythia for about two years. I took a break from it to try the Nexplanon implant, but came back after a few months. The first time being on it was so-so. My first period on it lasted about 3 weeks. After stopping and being on it again, they lasted a normal amount of time. This birth control never did anything to lighten my period, but it did help regulate it and my cramps stopped. I also never experienced any of the bad side effects that the other people leaving reviews have. However, I have not ever taken it late, nor have I missed a day, and I still ended up pregnant. I still give it 5 stars because of the positive experience I had with it before I got pregnant, but I guess it does happen."

For Birth Control "My pharmacist switched me to this pill. This is the second month on this brand, and it's been giving me terrible mood swings. I feel like I'm PMSing every day, and my period is irregular and barely anything comes out. Thought I was pregnant. I'm switching back to Aviane."

For Birth Control "I don't have insurance but do have a discount at my pharmacy. I've used Lutera for 12 years! Last month, I was switched to Orsythia and did notice my mood changed a bit, was so hungry, therefore gained 10 pounds. I did have a super light period and my breasts didn't hurt at all this past time. I needed to start eating good anyway, and I've lost weight, and I now know what's causing my increased anger, so I'm more mellow (myself again). I like Orsythia and plan on not switching."

For Birth Control "I have only been on Orsythia for about 1 month, and I just started my second week of my second month. I guess I didn't notice earlier, but I started to get slight headaches, and I didn't feel very well physically and mentally. It does help with my cramps and my period, not so much my acne, but it's better. The worst part of Orsythia has to be the mood swings and the sweating! I sweat a lot, even if it's cold, I'll start a light sweat. It's gross. But the mood swings are the worst. I just started feeling this, and it happened while I was talking to one of my friends. I just blew up on him for no reason. Then later on, I started to feel really bad (mentally), and I cried for a while, and I couldn't figure out why I was crying! I don't recommend!"

For Birth Control "Very slight nausea feeling when I take it, but I learned to avoid it by taking it just before I go to sleep. It makes my breasts swollen, which looks good but feels horrible. It's fairly painful. It causes me to sweat more than normal and causes excessive vaginal lubrication to the extreme. Some people might not mind, but when it's so noticeable you feel like you peed yourself and you no longer have friction during intercourse to the point of embarrassment (a problem I've never had). I never got pregnant, so that's a plus."

For Birth Control "If you have any history with anxiety and/or depression, stay far away from this pill. I have been on Orsythia for 4 months, and it's been miserable. My anxiety is through the roof, I have panic attacks weekly, and throughout the month, I would go into a depression where I would just hate myself and be completely sad for no reason at all. I also didn't get my period during any of the 'period week' (placebo pills week), instead, I would get a period week 2-3 of my pill pack. It also made my breasts hurt for 2 months and made me have little to no appetite. I lost 20 pounds while taking this. Sharing my experience so other girls don't have to go through the same thing. I am using condoms as contraceptives now, and it is so much better."

For Birth Control "I have been on Alesse, Aviane, and Sronyx, and they were amazing. No acne, weight gain, or mood swings. I have been on Orsythia for three months. The first month, I noticed I felt strange and high anxiety with many mood swings. The second month, I had all the same symptoms with a five-pound weight gain. This month, I got vertigo so bad I could barely stand and walk. It made me feel so dizzy and so irritated that I was snapping at everybody. I called my insurance carrier and begged them to put me on anything but Orsythia, and they are going to put me back on Aviane. I've been on the pill for over 12 years straight, and I have never had a series of side effects like I did with this pill. I would not recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I have been on Orsythia for two years now, and after reading these reviews, I am making some connections. I have definitely had very light periods since switching to Orsythia (sometimes to the point of wondering whether I was missing a period!) with no cramping at all. I've never had issues with cramping, though. However, I have had little to no sex drive, some weight gain, and general moodiness here and there. All within the last year and a half, I never thought to relate any of it to my contraceptive and plan to discuss it with my doctor at my upcoming appointment."

For Birth Control "I've been on and off this pill for about a year, if not two years. It's been one of the better birth controls I've taken up until the most recent time I had a two-month gap in between packets due to my insurance. My symptoms have been so off, it's kind of scary. I've lost weight since taking the pill again, but I've been bleeding for about two weeks. I've been feeling very anxious and depressed, almost. I'm not too sure if it's all to blame on the pill or maybe my new job, but this is the first time I've felt this way. Also a loss of appetite, I'll start eating a meal and lose interest about halfway through or get a nauseous feeling. I've also noticed that my energy levels are very low."

For Birth Control "I will say that from experience everyone's response is different, and I've had much worse reactions to different birth control pills before, but I will list all of my side effects that I had from this medication: severe mood changes, I cried ALL the time (but I didn't feel angry, just sad), trouble wearing contacts, swelling of the fingers when working out, weight gain, some water retention, headaches, and NO sex drive. But on a good side, I had light periods, light cramping, no spotting, and I didn't get pregnant."

For Birth Control "I had no problems when on Aviane or Lutera, but since my insurance switched me to Orsythia, my periods have gotten a bit longer, and my cramps have gotten worse. With Aviane and Lutera, I barely had any, but now they're back to like before I was on the pill. Plus, my breasts have been achy when they didn't use to be, and I've had more headaches. One month, I was even worried I was pregnant because I was so tired, bloated, and had so many headaches. I'm hoping I can get my doctor to write me a prescription for something else if my insurance doesn't cover Aviane or Lutera when I get my refill next month. Not terrible, but not as good as Aviane or Lutera."

For Birth Control "I was on this pill for about 7 or 8 months, and I did not have a good experience at all. This was my first time on birth control, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. The first few months were fine, I noticed I was a little high-strung but thought it was due to other things going on. Once life had mellowed out a bit, I was still having these terrible mood swings. I only had high highs or low lows, with no in-between. I'd snap at my husband constantly, and I was extremely depressed. I had frequent headaches, and I gained 15 pounds when I had never had any major weight changes before that. I stopped the pill about two months ago and have noticed my mood swings have stopped, and I feel much better. The only plus was that I didn't get pregnant."

For Birth Control "I’ve used this pill for 3 years now. I’ve experienced depression, cramping, towards the end of the pack I get extreme nausea prior to my period. Not sure what that is, but you get used to it. This month I noticed my pack changed. I'm 4 days in, and on my 3rd day, my pill tastes disgusting! I thought maybe I had something on my hands, but it happened again tonight! The pill literally tastes like poison!!! I almost threw up. I had to brush my teeth and tongue immediately to get the taste out. Furthermore, I’ve been coughing since Monday and have a taste in my mouth. I think I now owe this to the pill. I am not sure what they did with the change, but the colors of the pills are now 21 white and 7 pink placebo. It used to be pink for 22. Also, the packet is smaller, that’s fine. Except something is different. I’m going to try to take one from a different pack tomorrow and see if it’s my pack or not, but I’m thinking something is up."

For Birth Control "I have only been taking this birth control for 3 weeks now. I used to take Cryselle, which I was on for 2 years, and never experienced any problems with it besides weight gain, which was around 20 pounds. I have been off of Cryselle for a year now, but about 2 and a half months ago, I got into a new relationship, so I decided to get back on the pill. I went to Planned Parenthood, where they prescribed me Orsythia, and the doctor mentioned to me that spotting, nausea, and feeling 'funny' were the most common side effects. Let me say that my pill was not covered by my health insurance, so I had to throw a fit at my insurance company, CVS, and the doctor. Orsythia costs me $27 a month. Anyway, about a week and a half after 'rapid starting' the pill on a Friday, I began to notice I was grinding and clenching my teeth. I put this off until I started to realize I was so anxiety-ridden that I couldn't sleep, eat, and I felt as if I was almost in a dream-like state. Not to mention, I do have manic-depressive disorder, and it is clearly stated that Orsythia can worsen symptoms in mentally ill patients. Other than the extremely severe anxiety, the pill itself is not so bad. My first period only lasted about two and a half days, I had no cramping at all and I usually cramp before and during my period. I also had unprotected sex 'exactly' 7 days after beginning the pill, so it's safe to say that it does the job at preventing pregnancy, it's just the side effects that make it so horrible."

For Birth Control "I've been on Orsythia for 3 weeks. The side effects I'm having are nightly nausea, probably 4-5 nights a week. One night my first week, I did vomit. Ugh, it's been miserable. The other main side effect is that I have had my period for 15 days now. It's a regular flow too! That has honestly been obnoxious too. I am not sexually active, so I don't know if it is working to actually be birth control. I will say though, I have depression and anxiety, and I have NO noticeable mood changes, which is awesome :) also no weight gain! Woo! My boobs are a little bigger though... which isn't so bad ;) anyways I think it's a lot better than Beyaz, which I was on about 4 years ago."

For Birth Control "From using this pill for a year, I can say my opinion is firmly that Orsythia is not for me. The pharmacy/insurance switched Lutera to Orsythia, and I just went along with it, despite the negative reviews. This past year has been a completely different me. My sex drive was fine, bad cramps only once, and then other time from the white week sticker falling off and accidentally missing some pills. But my mood swings became so frequent and awful. I experienced depression and suicidal thoughts and am glad to have switched out of this birth control. I understand everyone's experience is different, but please don't be afraid to switch out of this birth control. Or keep a mood diary if you experience unusual moods."
