"This birth control is by far the worst of any other I've taken. I have experienced severe mood swings and temperament, depression, bloating, awful chest, back, and facial acne, and constant food cravings. I would never wish this drug on anybody."

"So this is my first week on any kind of birth control. I'm experiencing a very heavy and painful period, very low mood and depression, and lots of crying and weeping. I didn't think it would affect me so quickly. I'm not sure whether to ride it out for a month or just stop or switch. I really can't afford to be this out of it, given how demanding my work is. If you've had a similar experience, let me know!"

"I was originally on Lutera for a couple of months, my clinic transitions from Lutera to Orsythia occasionally. They have the same amount of medicine in them, so it's pretty neutral. My experience has been pretty good. No headaches, lighter cramps, and shorter period days (3/4). However, I became moody, where I'd get very angry or very sad. It fluctuated but was persistent during my placebo week. My weight also increased a little, went from a size 1/2 to a 3/4 with lots of bloating 3 weeks of the month. Not too horrible, I've been on this transitioning medicine for over a year and have not had any pregnancy scares or babies. Does its job well with some side effects."

"I was on Orsythia for 9 months and loved it. Before the prescription, I would have normal/heavy periods for 7 days and experienced a lot of premenstrual mood swings. After the pill, my mood swings disappeared and my skin cleared up (haven't had a single pimple since I started). I experienced spotting for around 2 weeks in my first month, but my period regulated after that. My period then reduced to 3-4 days of light bleeding, manageable with just a panty liner. I didn't gain any unusual weight, and it didn't lower my sex drive. I recently just switched to Nexplanon, a hormonal implant. I loved the pill, but unfortunately, it is a hassle to have to remember to take it every day, reorder the prescription, and take it with me when I traveled."

"I've been on this pill for 1 year, and I've gained 30 pounds. I've been the same size for years until I started taking this pill. My emotions are crazy, but it does make my periods shorter and not as uncomfortable."

"I was given Orsythia because my pharmacist switched me from Lutera. This birth control actually kills my appetite, resulting in a little weight loss and, even better, increased my breast size. My main complaint is that I get large, deep breakouts on my chin, but a salicylic acid facial cleanser is helping with them. Also, I wake up in a bad mood every morning. I have only been on this birth control for a few weeks and definitely isn't as good as Lutera, but I will wait for my body to adjust a little more. I would definitely say give it a try before you call your pharmacist screaming."

"I started this pill in June 2014 and have had only a positive experience. No weight gain, no acne, and no pregnancies! I used to get bad back pain and cramps, however, after starting the pill, they are gone and my period only lasts 3-4 days. I do get emotional right before my periods do, but nothing too extreme. I would recommend it to a friend, as I know friends who have also had a positive experience."

"I have been on Orsythia about two weeks. My doctor prescribed it to help control my terrible PMS and cramps. I am bloated constantly. It looks like I have a little baby in my belly. My pants are tight, and it sucks, but I am going to stick it out and hope that it will go away after a month or so. I have been sleeping terribly, and I am tired all the time. My breasts are tender 24/7, and I feel a little like I'm in a cloud... not really depressed, but not excited either. I haven't had any problems so far with acne, and my appetite has actually decreased. I am hoping it will all level out in a few months."

"I started this pill in June 2014 and have had an amazing experience. No pregnancies, no weight gain, and no acne (though I wasn't prone to it before). I do get emotional and tired, but nothing a nap and breathing can't fix. What works for some may not work for others. I definitely would recommend it, me and a few friends have had very positive experiences!"

"I started this birth control in November of 2013, waited about a month and a half before I started having sex, and it protected me. I stopped in mid-March and got back on it two weeks later, right after my period. Then, 12 days after I started taking it again, I had unprotected sex and I was so scared I was pregnant, but I'm NOT. It's best to start taking this birth control RIGHT after your period or during your period, you will be fully protected. Only side effects were the weight gain because my appetite increased. Other than that, I was good. Light periods that last about 1-2 days also."

"I've been on Orsythia since I was 14. I am now almost 19. I am nauseous a lot and cry for no reason. I am very moody all of the time and have a lot of mood swings. I have an EXTREMELY low sex drive, to the point that I think it will ruin my relationship someday. I am sexually active, but I am always safe using condoms, so I haven't gotten pregnant. For me, Orsythia has stopped the clotting during my periods, but I still will get cramps and my periods will sometimes be very heavy. I never got acne, so that hasn't been a problem for me. If I were you, I would steer clear of Orsythia and make this your last choice for birth control."

"I was previously on Tri-Previfem, and had horrible acne, cramps, and mood swings on it. Switched to Orsythia, and I am currently on the third week. My acne is totally gone, I've gotten one pimple this month (I would get 7-10 while on Tri-Previfem). No more mood swings, and I am totally satisfied with it."

"This was my first time on the pill, and I can say that it has been great. I gained a few pounds the first month, but I also started lifting weights and eating a lot more to help build muscle the same time I started taking it, so I can't say definitively that the pill is what made me gain weight (and by gain weight I mean like 5 to 7 pounds-I haven't gained or lost more than 2 or 3 in the past 4 years as a high schooler, so that was pretty significant for me). It didn't clear up my acne, but it didn't make it any worse. I've had no mood swings, no cramps, no PMS symptoms, no bloating, really no side effects at all. The only real change I've experienced by taking this is that it made my period more regular and lighter. I have no complaints."

"I saw negative reviews on Orsythia, but decided to try it anyway. I wish I hadn't. I was so anxious and had the worst mood swings. I would get so angry over little things I wouldn't give a second thought to normally. I snapped at my boyfriend, friends, and family practically once in every conversation when I used to be so calm and light-hearted. I eventually thought enough is enough and switched to Junal Fe and finally back to my normal self. Orsythia also made me completely repulsed by food, so I lost about 12 pounds, but I'm barely 5 foot 2, so 12 pounds is a huge difference. The only positive is that I didn't get pregnant."

"I used Orsythia many years ago, and all went well. I don't remember having any issues while using it. It prevented pregnancy, my acne cleared up, and I lost a little weight. I recently decided to get back on the pill and have only been on it for about 2 weeks. This time around, my boobs hurt so bad, my back muscles are extremely tender, and I constantly feel like I'm going to vomit. So far, there are no negative effects on my anxiety/depression. I'm going to give it more time since I had a successful experience prior to this, but if things continue down this path, I will have to switch to something else."

"I have been on Orsythia for a year now, and I have to say that I have never been happier with another birth control, and I've had one other before starting Orsythia. I did NOT gain any weight, lose my sex drive, get acne, have mood swings, PMS symptoms, or, most importantly, get pregnant on this birth control. I am so happy with my RX, and I would highly recommend it. I understand that everyone is different and experiences drugs differently, but you need to wait the 3-4 months before getting used to a daily drug in your body that changes your natural hormones. I love it, and I see that it is very effective for me."

"Reading the reviews. I'm really jealous of those light periods, no crampers. I've only been taking Orsythia for 5 weeks, and at first, it wasn't too bad. I noticed significant weight gain during the past 2 weeks and am on my first period on birth control. They are killer. I have never experienced cramps this bad. I get sharp pains in my back, legs, shoulders, and stomach. Everyone's body is different, and this pill isn't working for me."

"Love love love this pill! I've been on it for about a year, and it has been the best experience ever. It cleared up my acne, helps with my anxiety, and has done a wonderful job at preventing pregnancy! I've noticed a little bit of water weight with it, but that's okay, I don't mind it."

"I was on Orsythia for about a year. It did its job in that I did not get pregnant, but I had to quit taking it because of the awful side effects. Weight gain was minimal but definitely occurred. After about 6 months, my acne became worse than it has ever been, but even that wasn't the worst of it. Orsythia brought my anxiety to an all-time high, and I was experiencing awful mood swings. All of these symptoms practically disappeared within 2 months after quitting it. I did not have anxiety before taking Orsythia, and now, even though it has been almost a year since I quit (haven't taken another birth control since), I still have bouts of anxiety from time to time. I believe my anxiety was triggered by this birth control."

"The only reason I even give this two stars is because I never had an issue with pregnancy on this pill. I started with Aviane (which I had no side effects and generally felt great) and was switched to this by my pharmacy. Since then, things have gone downhill. I had very mild anxiety before going on the pill, Aviane did nothing to it, but Orsythia has amplified it to the point where I've really struggled with my anxiety and mood swings. A few days before my period, the smallest things will set me off into episodes of weeping and panic. I've gained some weight (5 pounds). Experienced nausea every so often (more than Aviane). Worst is the cystic acne on my chin. While my periods have been lighter and shorter, cramps have gotten worse. Terrible."

"When I first went on the pill, it was to help with my PMDD, which I will say helped significantly. However, I have no sex drive. I used to masturbate at least once or twice every day, but now I'm lucky if I can even make myself orgasm in a month. Orgasms don't feel very good anymore, and nothing turns me on. Sex is painful and boring. Other than that, it did make my periods a bit shorter, which is one positive of this pill. The first week I was on the pill, I was super queasy, ugh! Some other side effects have been weight gain (only about 3-5 pounds, but still) and horrible acne in the first 3 months. I'm seeing my OB-GYN soon because my low sex drive is hurting my relationship and makes life miserable."

"I've only been on it for one month, so my opinion and perspective might be a little skewed. However, I've experienced nothing but wonderful things. I have acne-prone skin, and I have not had any major breakouts. I have a curbed appetite now. I do sweat more, but only when I'm being active. My period is so light, which is a definite plus! I highly recommend at least trying. Everyone's body is different, but it works for me."

"I used to have really bad cramping and a really heavy flow before I started this birth control. I've been taking it for a year now, and my period is only four days compared to the week and a half it used to be. I did gain a bit of weight, but it was all in the boobs area. Love this birth control!"

"I've been on this now for a little over a year. At first, the birth control worked great for me! I would only have about four-day periods, and I barely ever had cramps. But starting about three or four months ago, every time I'm not supposed to be on my period, I will start on my first or second week of the pills and will be on it until my month of pills is gone. I'm not sure if it's my body's way of saying it doesn't like this pill anymore or what. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm going to my gyno soon, and I want to either switch my BC or get completely off it."

"I have had no problems on this medication. Was switched around to a couple different other generics for Alesse for 2 years. I have been on Orsythia, specifically, for over 6 months, have seen no difference with this and the others. I have had no side effects at all. Orsythia/Alesse has helped my mood and my adult acne. It has also made a major difference with my periods. Now lighter, shorter, with little to no cramping."
