For Birth Control "Aviane worked fine for a couple of months, but lately I've been noticing a lot of mood swings, and I'm depressed all the time. When I used to be on Yaz, I was never like this, and I was on it for a year."

For Birth Control "I'm 18 years old, and this is my first birth control. This is my 4th month on it, and I'm thinking of switching. The first month I bled the entire month, but after that, I only have my period for about 2 days, which is awesome. I haven't seemed to have gained any weight, and my skin hasn't changed. The negative side is my MAJOR moodiness. I cry all the time and get angry over the smallest things. I thought I should wait out the first 3 months in case it changes, but it hasn't seemed to get any better. I'm depressed all the time, and my boyfriend called me out on being really negative all the time."

For Birth Control "When I first started taking this pill, I broke out along my jawline due to hormone changes and my body adjusting to it. After 2 months, my acne improved, but the downside was that I got very bad mood swings. It wasn't until I stopped taking the pill that I realized how depressed and short-tempered I had become. With that being said, it helps with clearing acne but gives you bad mood swings."

For Birth Control "I wanted to try a new birth control because I was having acne issues with my old BC. The very first time I started using Aviane, I noticed some side effects right away. When I would start a new pack, I would have several mood swings and felt very sick. I had to call off work for the first 3 months (the first 1 or 2 days of each month) when starting a new pack because of the sickness it was causing me. I pushed through because Aviane was eliminating my acne, and I figured the side effects would go away eventually. I've been taking Aviane for almost a year. I don't get sick anymore, but I still get mood swings and headaches. I wanted to read reviews because I wasn't sure if my depression was caused by the BC or something else. I don't usually get really down and think negatively, so I really do think it may be the birth control. My negative thoughts are becoming too much, I get sad sometimes, and I just want it to stop. I will be switching to a different BC!"

For Birth Control "This pill is the worst one I've taken; I've never been on such a problematic birth control like this before, and it's causing so much stress in my daily life. I switched from Reclipsen because it gave me a migraine every day. On the bright side, this pill hasn't given me any. Unfortunately, what it has given me is terrible acne, depression, day-long lasting nausea, and the day before my period, I had horrible pains in my right side from my belly button to the bottom of my pubic bone that I nearly went into the ER. It was so debilitating that I couldn't move a muscle. Now, upon my self-examination, I've discovered a lump and have nipple discharge. I'm not entirely sure if the birth control is the direct link, but my doctors and I will see."

For Birth Control "I switched brands to Aviane. I have been taking this for three months now. The first two months were awful. My symptoms were synonymous with pregnancy symptoms, and I even had to take a pregnancy test. I had spotting, awful cramps, weight gain, breakouts, breast tenderness, morning sickness, fatigue, mood swings, and even depression. Now, things are starting to get better. I only get headaches occasionally, painful cramping, and breast tenderness. My skin has completely cleared up, much to my surprise. I am iffy about this brand of birth control. I'm going to continue for a couple more months, and if things get better, I will stay on it, and if things worsen again, I am going to switch."

For Birth Control "I am sure everyone reacts differently to medication, but in my experience, this was the worst decision! I started taking Aviane because, although I loved being on Sprintec, my doc suggested switching to a low-dose pill continuously and prescribed Aviane. I had stomach issues right away, depression, and then bled for 3 weeks straight with no breaks at all. I was told to wait it out because breakthrough bleeding is common at first, but it just felt like something was wrong and I needed to stop. It's been 3 days since I stopped, and I can already feel that my mood has improved! I plan on letting my body return to normal and then seeing if I can try something else in a few months."

For Birth Control "My breasts hurt. I get mood swings, headaches, a lot of nausea, which in a way is good because I lost a few lbs instead of gaining weight. However, it gave me depression. On the other side, periods are great, very light, and no cramps or anything. I tried NuvaRing once, and I had this horrible discharge, so I stopped using it. I've been on Alesse in the past, but insurance doesn't cover it. My main reason to take birth control is to prevent ovarian cysts. I hope it works because they are very painful. I think I'm going to keep using it for another month, see what happens."

For Birth Control "I was prescribed Aviane and tried it for the first time for about a year. My mood changes crept up on me, and before I knew it, I wasn't me and had lost every desire to live! I felt depressed and always full of loathing. So full of just plain loathing for everything, for absolutely no reason. I was plain and simply put, not in the mood for life anymore! After changing to an IUD, I waited over 6 months to see if my mood and depression changed. And it did! I am me again and not depressed! Also, this pill caused me to, for the 1st time in my life, to have a sun mustache! Google it. Darkening of skin can be an actual side effect with this one! My period got incredibly light and short, more like light spotting at most! I didn't mind that so much, but it did have me worried about being pregnant at times. I had clear skin while on it but got the absolute worst post-pill acne I've ever gotten after stopping any pill! I didn't get pregnant, so that's a plus! Overall not happy, wouldn't recommend."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Started taking Aviane to regulate my periods. I was basically having two (8-10 day) heavy periods a month. It was ridiculously and a bit embarrassing telling my husband not yet all the time. So the side effects: nausea, acne, acne, acne, sex drive skyrocketed, really bad cramps, bloated, anxiety, and depression. I was not pleased by this birth control, so I called my doctor after my first pack and switched me to Blisorvi age 1/20. Everyone’s body responds differently though."

For Birth Control "At the beginning, it was really bad. Awful mood swings, very agitated at absolutely everything, bleeding for 21 days straight. After 4-5 months, I did not see those mood swings anymore and had a regular cycle. Now, on it for 2 years, I noticed my cramps have been less painful. I went from fainting, vomiting, and being unable to walk to being able to take one Advil and be in slight discomfort. Although it left me with depression, I'd rather be constantly sad than experience those awful cramps. Pros: slightly better skin, regulated periods, bearable cramps, extra protection. Cons (after a year): depression, weight gain, spotting if a day was missed, more severe mood changes during periods, a bit more tired throughout the day but can still sleep fine."

For Birth Control "Took Ortho Tri-Cyclen LO for 3 years, and at the same time I started it, I became engaged. Went from semi-normal emotionally to severely psychotic-depression, anxiety, thoughts of suicide, etc. I chalked it up to marriage jitters. I suffered for about a year after that before I read something about birth control causing mental problems, so I stopped the pill altogether. A month later, I started Aviane because I was paranoid I'd get pregnant. Miraculously, the bad thoughts and depression/anxiety disappeared within 2 months. The downside is my skin is horrible since I started this pill. I had flawless skin on Ortho Tri-Cyclen LO, but I will take zits over anything. If you struggle with depression, I'd give this pill a try."

For Birth Control "So far, I've noticed hair loss, which my doctor told me will eventually go away, headaches only in the morning and before bedtime, mood swings. I'm normally very confident, but I've been depressed, and my skin has been so itchy I can't stand it. Been on for almost 3 months now, itching is increasingly getting worse for me."

For Birth Control "I was put on Aviane, which has been one of the worst experiences of my life! I was recently in the ER because I was experiencing shortness of breath every time I stood up, irregular heartbeats, and chills. I took it at night, and by the second morning after being on it, I cried six times in one day! I am a super happy, upbeat, friendly person who isn’t usually very emotional, but this pill took me from being my usual optimistic self to a depressed mess that doesn’t want to get out of bed or talk to anyone! It's so bad that I’ve seriously been looking up ways to detox my body from this pill. I have no emotion other than depressed, angry, sad, annoyed, irritated, or just overall blah. My breasts have been hurting every time I lay on my stomach, and they were growing quickly. From here on out, I would much rather deal with severe cramps, headaches, and horrible periods than ever take this pill again! I do NOT recommend this pill to ANYONE! Ever!"

For Birth Control "I've tried many birth control pills, but they all caused severe mood swings and depression. I like the fact that this pill seemed at first to have little to no negative effect on my mood. (I've been on it for 3 years). However, in the past year, I began having severe anxiety attacks and was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder after I began waking up in the mornings feeling faint and sick to my stomach, laying on the bathroom floor. I constantly feel exhausted, and although active, have gained 20 pounds in the past year. I also noticed an increase in my acne the past two years. I think this is because of the birth control. I am switching to the copper IUD next week and am so excited because it is hormone-free! I hope this helps."

For Birth Control "Personally, this birth control definitely wasn't for me. My period before would be about 2-3 days, starting Aviane, I would get my period for 14 days every 14 days. I developed and was diagnosed with depression and anxiety 'coincidentally' a month after taking the pill. My mood changed, sleep was terrible, self-esteem issues..."

For Birth Control "This was my very first birth control that I ever had. I got it when I was 15 years old. At first I loved it because I went from having very irregular periods to having them right on time every month. However, by year two I was having panic attacks, mind-boggling depression, horrible break-outs, and titanic cramps. I switched to Yaz and all went well for a year. I am currently on Seasonique, which except for the slightly less sex drive, is AMAZING."

For Birth Control "Used Aviane for three months, and it made me experience anxiety and depression, and also just made my body feel weird. I also noticed slight weight gain. Got off of it after 3 months."

For Birth Control "So I started Aviane earlier this year and was on it for two months. It made my periods shorter, and it did lessen the pain of my period. I stopped the pill for personal reasons and then got back on it after two months. Since being back, I had a period last 14 days. I saw an influx of acne, and I never had an issue with acne before. And nausea. Now I'm noticing a deep depression, anxiety, and irritability. I'm already depressed enough, so this isn't really helping. I want to give the pill at least 3 months to even out in my body, but so far I am not liking how it is making me feel."
