For Birth Control "Aviane made me feel terrible. After taking it for just two days, I couldn't bear the side effects, so I stopped immediately. I experienced extreme bloating, weight gain, moodiness, crying for no reason, depression, sore ovaries, muscle cramping, back pain, and a migraine headache!"

For Birth Control "My doctor first prescribed me this medication in October 2017, and I was doing just fine. Now it did help with my acne, but not until December, and ever since I started to take it, I’ve experienced horrible mood swings and depression. Let's not forget the nausea and hot flashes, which is the worst. Other than those symptoms, I didn’t mind it, but by mid-February, I started to have bloody discharge and spotting (breakthrough bleeding). Of course, I called my doctor and explained to him what was going on, and he assured me it’s just my body getting used to it (this late in the game?) and told me to wait 3 months to see if I needed to up my dose. But it is now March, and I can’t take it anymore, so I’ve decided to stop taking it since I’m on my last week, and hopefully, that’ll stop my breakthrough bleeding."

For Birth Control "I am 19 and have been on Aviane and its other generic, Vienva, since August 2021. I would say it did not affect my acne or weight much. I did gain some weight, but I work out a lot, so probably muscle. It took away some period pain, and I didn’t get pregnant. Although it did severely increase my anxiety and depression. Might be switching."

For Birth Control "Before starting this pill, my flow was way too heavy! I would literally bleed through a super tampon and a pad in less than 2 hours. (Horrible, I know.) Also, my skin would get pimples like crazy. Within the first 2 months, my period was lighter and manageable. My acne also cleared up. But my mom and others would notice that I was super quiet, I'm usually talkative, so she thought I was depressed. I'm not completely sure it was the pill's fault. Currently, I am off the pill to see if my flow has gotten lighter. I'm giving it a 9 because of the 'depression' stage my peers thought I was going through."

For Birth Control "I'm 18, and I barely started taking Aviane. I noticed the first couple of weeks I was always sad, crying over everything, and I would get dizzy, but I gave it a couple of weeks to see if it would go away, and it did. I'm fine now, my sex drive has increased, and my breasts feel bigger."

For Birth Control "This is the second type of birth control pill that I've been testing out. The first one that I was on gave me severe headaches practically every day. Luckily, with Aviane, my headaches are gone. This is my 3rd month on Aviane, and it's been okay. I've been having breakthrough bleeding and a few pimples here and there whenever I am about to start my period. Also, whenever I am about to start my period, I get depressed, and I get really bad cramps. I am most likely going to switch to a different pill. Hopefully, I find one that's right for me."

For Birth Control "I took Aviane for almost two years before switching to Mirena (which I love, by the way). I never had sex without a condom while on this BC, but it seemed to do its job. I never got pregnant. I did, however, regularly experience the withdrawal bleeding (a 'period') consistently a few days before the placebos began every month, but it was predictable, so I didn't mind. I took the pill at the exact time every day. I just don't think the hormones were quite strong enough to hold back my bleeding. Basically, Aviane worked alright for me, although I did notice some minor but more frequent bouts of depressive episodes that were very short while on this BC. I had a lot less acne while on Aviane, but small flare-ups a day or two before my period."

For Birth Control "I would not recommend this birth control. I’ve only been using it for 3 months and noticed that I’ve been feeling depressed, moody, and angry. I’ve also had headaches as well. DO NOT USE THIS PILL, IT SUCKS!"

For Birth Control "I was on Aviane for 9 months before I started having side effects. At first, it was perfect: no period, great mood, lost weight, and no acne. Then right at 9 months, I started having severe depression and anxiety, to the point I almost took my own life. It was horrible, and nothing else has changed in my life. I decided to get off of it and stayed off for 5 months. For some reason, I stupidly got back on Aviane again 2 months ago, and I immediately felt a horrible difference within the first week. I toughed out the month and then got off of it again. Since then, I have still felt the side effects. I feel as if I developed depression and severe anxiety, and it won't go away now. I have been off this pill for 6 months now, and I feel as if I'm still on hormones. I suggest if you try this pill, try keeping a journal to track how you feel. Mental health should come first! Be safe with any birth control, it can get dark really quick."

For Birth Control "I started taking Aviane because my old birth control made me gain a lot of weight, and my skin broke out. Aviane was great at first, it actually made me lose about 20 pounds and cleared my skin. However, it did make me extremely depressed, and I recently just got off of it after taking it for a year. Suddenly, when I stopped taking it, my mood instantly got better, and gray is no longer the color of my walls :)"

For Birth Control "I started on Aviane when I was 15. It's got the job done with making sure I don't get pregnant. But all other aspects of it are completely horrible. It makes me way more irritable, I gained 30 pounds (and I'm a healthy person, I always watch what I eat and exercise). My acne is worse, I'm moody, emotional, and more sad. It literally makes me crazy. I'm a totally different person on it. I am now 24, and I am stopping it this month. I would never go on it again. But now I am at a loss of what to do because I don't want to get pregnant. I'm thinking of getting the nonhormonal copper IUD, but I'm not sure. Any advice would be welcome. But do not take this drug."

For Birth Control "During my first week, I had aura migraines, so bad that I vomited at times. I'm a month and 4 days into pack 2, and I've had horrible anxiety, depression, decrease in sex drive, loss of appetite, and nausea! This has been the worst experience of my life! I'd rather be pregnant."

For Birth Control "I've only been on Aviane for a month, and I absolutely hate it. I would not recommend this to anyone. I was taking Aubra before, but wanted to get out of Planned Parenthood. So I went to my family doctor, he gave me this. I have been depressed, have had bad mood swings, absolutely no sex drive, my breasts are very tender and seem larger, and I know I've gained weight. This will be my one and only month on it."

For Birth Control "I have been on 3 different birth control pills in 3 years, and I have to say Aviane is the best. The other two were Ortho and Loestrin, and they were both horrible for me. I was moody, crying all the time, angry, always hungry, had bad cramping, and was depressed. I asked to be put back on Aviane. It's been a week, and I've noticed a dramatic difference. I'm so much more pleasant to be around, and I'm hardly ever hungry. The last time I was on Aviane, I lost around 20 pounds in a year. Plus, no cramps!"

For Ovarian Cysts "I have been on Aviane for 2 months now going on three. Within the first month, I've experienced headaches, depression, mood swings, severe cramping, and bloating, as well as stomach gain (which went down). All of those symptoms went away by the second month of taking this pill, which I've experienced lighter periods. I still have mood swings and get depressed at times, but I have very bad breakouts all over my face, chin, and neck, as well as black marks on my forehead. I've always had acne, but I've never experienced it this badly. I will continue to take it for the 3rd and 4th month just to see if anything gets better, and I will keep you posted."

For Birth Control "Pros: no babies! No acne, no weight gain. Steady cycle, less blood loss. Cons: potential hair loss, in the first 3 months, awful migraines! Extremely tired all the time and after taking the pill. I started having severe anxiety, anxiety driving or over the smallest things. Depression: this pill made me extremely depressed to the point that at times I was suicidal. Although rationally I knew I was fine and the world wasn’t awful, this pill made my world hell. Mood swings! My mood was so easily triggered by the stupidest things! Often 30 minutes after taking the pill, I would change my mood 4 times in 20 minutes. Turned my sex drive way down. I was miserable on this pill for 9 months and would not recommend it to anyone. Switched to Triqular. The first month was great. Then got sick on week four of every pack. Also started gaining a lot of weight and was crazy hungry all the time and just wanted to eat junk. Switching to try LoLo before giving up altogether!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have been on Aviane for about a year and a half for dysmenorrhea, and it's great. I get a bit moody/sad the day or two before my period, but that's the worst of it. It's helped a LOT with cramps. I get by on 2-4 Midol per month now!"

For Birth Control "This pill is kind of iffy. It made my cramps worse, and I didn’t notice a significant reduction in the amount of bleeding during my period. It also caused me extreme anxiety and depression. I started having full panic attacks and depressive episodes that I have never experienced before, especially during the third week of pills. Other than that, I know that seems like almost all negatives. I didn’t notice much of a change in my weight or any other kind of thing like that. It’s effective in its use to prevent pregnancy, which is most important for me."

For Birth Control "This birth control is very effective. In the first few months, I had mood swings and depressive states towards the last two weeks of the pack. They eventually do go away the longer you take the pill. My period has actually gotten lighter and lighter as time goes on to basically just spotting. Cramps are very minimal. It didn't affect my weight at all."

For Birth Control "Aviane was the first birth control I've taken, I started when I was 20, and I took it for about 6 months. The first month was pretty bad - I had my period for all of it, then the second and third month I had my period for two weeks. Initially, I felt depressed at times, especially about my boyfriend, but I was fine by the 3rd month. My boobs maybe got a little larger, and my skin did clear up, but I might have gained some weight over the months (I also stopped working out). The main reason why I'm no longer taking it is that for the past 3 months, my period started 3 or 4 days earlier during the active pills, so I needed a birth control with higher doses. Overall, I have no complaints, and it definitely works at preventing pregnancy."

"Thank goodness for this site because I thought I was going crazy. I have been using Aviane for six months, and recently I have been depressed and wanting to cry and worrying over nothing. I am stopping immediately and just going back to good old-fashioned condoms."
