For Birth Control "I'm gonna keep it short and sweet; I've been on about a week, taking it to help with PMS. No initial symptoms other than a slight increase in random emotional upheaval. After about 3 days, exhaustion kicked in along with unnecessary bursts of anger, frustration, or sadness. 4-6 days, mass fatigue, appalling headaches (I promise you, I'm not exaggerating!), crazy outbreaks of spots, nausea, and lightheadedness. I'm going to stick it through for at least another week and will update. I would obviously prefer to follow through to see if it settles down, but I have rather a lot to do in the next few months and would rather not be impeded by my hormones. Good luck! It's worth a try - you can always take it out if it disagrees with you."

For Birth Control "I have been on NuvaRing for the better part of 3 years. At first, it was great, of course, with the appeal of not having to remember to take a pill every day. From the get-go, I noticed some pretty mild side effects, mainly hypersensitivity during the week of and leading up to my period. I would fall into hysterics a lot and alienate myself from people and not know why. Today, I've reached the apex of my tolerance with this birth control. I feel sad and anxious the majority of the time. I can't sleep, I can't relax, all I want to do is cry. I'm normally a really fun and outgoing person."

For Birth Control "DO NOT USE ELURYNG. My pharmacy gave me EluRyng instead of NuvaRing several months ago, and I figured I'd try it. My acne was horrific for the first couple of weeks. And then, I noticed I had some mood swings. The worst part was intense abdominal pain, especially surrounding sex. I thought for sure I had cancer for a minute there. I thought it couldn't be related to the EluRyng since it seemed like it wouldn't do any damage or anything. I took it out a week ago, and I haven't had any pain or mood swings since."

For Birth Control "I love NuvaRing! I was put on Microgestin FE 1/20 but stopped after the first month due to awful cramping in my arms/legs (which I still get during PMS). A year later, I started NuvaRing, and so far it has been no hassle at all. My breasts have grown at least half a cup size, and while my acne isn't gone, it's lightened considerably. My periods are light, 4 days long, and I have little to no cramping when before I would be unable to move for hours due to menstrual cramps/ovulation, and my flow was heavy for at least 5 days. I hope this method keeps working for me, and I recommend it to anyone looking for an easy method of birth control."

For Birth Control "My insurance provider now covers this versus the NuvaRing that I have used for 11 years. NEVER a problem with the original, but this generic is worse than a menstrual cycle. I have had cramping, bloating, painful breasts, discharge, headaches, migraine, body aches, and nausea since I started this. So disappointing, it has caused issues I didn’t even have with a cycle. I am 46 and now trying to figure out how I can budget $75 a month for the brand. This is awful."

For Birth Control "For reference, I was previously taking Tri-Sprintec, which stopped agreeing with my body - I started to experience breakthrough bleeding during weeks 2 and 3. I was then switched to Sprintec, which also had the same side effects along with constant hunger. I thought I’d give NuvaRing a try as I liked the idea of not having to remember to take a pill every day. I do not feel it at all at any point, I’ve had no issues with it falling out, no hunger or other side effects, and my period is the lightest it’s ever been and down to about 3 days. Very happy. I know most people only leave reviews when they’re unhappy with something. I wanted to be sure the positive is also shared as everyone is different."

For Birth Control "I always wanted NuvaRing, and now my insurance covers it. It's amazing. I'm not weirded out by my own body, so I have no problem inserting and taking it out. I don't have to remember to insert it at the same time every day, so automatically I'm a perfect user! I had no side effects, which would make sense since it's a lower dose at a constant rate. My sex drive has actually increased, not likely from the ring itself, but from the peace of mind knowing I didn't forget a dose. Totally recommend to anyone who can afford it, or who has bad memory and would rather pay for the ring than for an accidental baby."

For Birth Control "I have been on NuvaRing for 8 months now, and overall, I've had a good experience. I used to be on the pill and would always have a period every 2 weeks instead of 3. Since I've been on NuvaRing, I'm right on schedule. If the ring 'slips,' it's an easy fix, and it's nice to not have to worry about taking a pill every day. It has only come out twice during sex, but again, easy fix. You can take it out before sex if you want if it makes you uncomfortable thinking your partner can feel it. My only complaint with the NuvaRing is that it has lowered my lubrication during sex."

For Birth Control "'Lucky' I am not the only one with this issue. I got switched to the generic brand (because of my insurance) a couple of months ago without any warning. Nuvaring worked so well for me, so I figured this would be the same.... It's not. I make sure to follow the directions, but I have not had a period, I'm having constipation, small headaches, as well as losing my 'drive.' My biggest concern is the missed periods. I, strangely enough, enjoy my period. It makes me feel like everything is doing as it should and no pregnancy scares. This switch is not a good one, and I really wish I could return to Nuva."

"I'm so glad I found this thread. I thought I was imagining things. I was on the NuvaRing for about a year and loved it and had no side effects whatsoever and was so happy to be able to skip my periods. Then I randomly got handed this different brand at the pharmacy but didn't think much of it. I've had many issues with cramping and painful and swollen breasts, also random spotting, which I'd never had before. I've been diagnosed with anxiety, but I had been managing it pretty well until I started this new brand, and now it's spun out of control again. I'm not sure what to do since my insurance now won't cover NuvaRing anymore, but I cannot stand this brand."

For Birth Control "DO NOT TAKE. This medication should absolutely be taken off the market. It triggered a manic episode for me along with a loss of sense of identity, personality problems, delusional thinking, and extreme anger outbursts (which, anger, is a trait of my personality I do NOT consider to have). It made me feel extremely uncomfortable with my gender, as though I was a 'child' and my body did not feel 'my own.' Let it be known a contraceptive can greatly affect your health, physical health, social life, and overall well-being. This made not only my hormonal imbalance issues significantly worse, but my entire life, in general - was greatly affected. Anyway, I apologize if this is too much information, yet I feel it needs to be known the seriousness of this medication and the side effects that it has... Make sure you do your research before going on any kind of medication, even a contraceptive that the government will tell you is 'safe.'"

For Birth Control "I initially googled NuvaRing side effects because I was concerned about its impact on childbearing and then came across this site. I’ve been on the ring, I realized just now, for over 10 years. I’ve never had any problems with it at all besides it falling out during sex a few times. However, for the last year, I have been having some weird things happen to my body. Random passing out, very intense migraines, nausea, and random leg dumbness. Up until reading others’ stories, I assumed it was just getting older and my body changing into its mid-30s. Now I wonder if it’s due to the NuvaRing. I’m going to try going off it and see what happens. Thank you for sharing your stories."

For Birth Control "I have been on NuvaRing since 2007 and have never had any issues. I was given EluRyng in September of 2020. It has been a horrible experience! I have bled 14 days straight. I also experienced fatigue, headaches, and nausea. I’ve also experienced mental changes. I’ve been unhappy and depressed. I am usually the happiest person in the world. My NP suggested I stay on it for 3 weeks for my body to adjust. I told her that I would never use it again! Worst birth control ever!"

For Birth Control "The worst experience I ever had with birth control. NuvaRing is not for everyone, trust me, I experienced it very awfully. Side effects, it’s definitely something I would never like to experience ever again, it's very scary - it can change a person's personality. Doctors need to be honest when prescribing this birth control. I just pray these hormones leave my body soon because I need to feel like myself again."

For Birth Control "I had great experiences with the Nuvaring, and then all of a sudden, my insurance company stopped giving it and gave me the EluRyng instead. Since I have been on this, I thought I was going crazy that I have spotted even before the three weeks are up, causing major issues with my interactions with my husband, headaches, breast sensitivity and swelling, leg cramps, abdominal cramps, fatigue. It's been crazy, and I thought it was just me. I wish my insurance would take Nuvaring again."

For Birth Control "My daughter used the NuvaRing for 18 months, and now she's not here to tell other women about it. She died from a pulmonary embolism from using the NuvaRing. She had no side effects to warn her, she died instantly. She was only 19, physically fit, and did not smoke. Do not use the NuvaRing, it increases your chances of having a blood clot, which could be fatal. There are much safer birth control methods."

For Birth Control "My partner and I finally decided to try some alternate methods of birth control. NuvaRing was my first choice because I'm too forgetful to try pills, and I must say I've had a mixed experience. I love the fact that I can insert it and forget about it. I don't feel it during sex, and it doesn't slip out. It got rid of my recurring yeast infections, I even grew a cup size. However, I can't help but notice that I've gained weight, especially around my waistline, which almost never happens, and my sex drive has decreased. I exercise regularly, so I know it had to be the hormones. I experience extreme mood swings, I'm a lot more angry, I find myself depressed, have random urges to cry, and my periods are just as painful as before. I just may switch soon."

For Birth Control "I turned to NuvaRing because I didn't want to take a pill every day anymore, and I didn't have a great reaction to the implant. It has been a pleasant experience and, without a doubt, more convenient for me. I know exactly when my period will start, and they have become shorter and lighter. I have noticed that I get slight headaches right before I start a period, though. The first couple of months, I had extra discharge and irritation, but that quickly went away. The very few negative side effects disappeared fairly quickly. Overall, it is a great birth control method, and I'm thankful to have found something that works for me."

For Birth Control "When I began using birth control, I had severe reactions to every pill that the doctor gave me. Of the side effects which are listed on the pamphlet, I had all of them except the most severe ones. I had three periods in 2 months, and I was shaking and in a great deal of pain. I am small, and to me it felt like a massive overdose. The NuvaRing has been a lifesaver. The ring slowly releases the hormones, so I don't feel overwhelmed and saved me from a lot of future worry and stress."

For Birth Control "I have never had bad cramping when I’m on my period. My period is just very heavy but only lasts 3 days. I tried the NuvaRing as the pill really affected my mental state. I loved the ring at first, but after one month, I realized the side effects are so intense. It started with my legs going numb/aching feeling, then I started crying over nothing and getting aggravated at the littlest things. The worst side effect for me was when I took it out the 4th week to have my period, it was the worst pain in my life. I ended up being admitted to the hospital. I truly felt like I was dying. The pain woke me up in the middle of the night, it quickly worsened to the point it was unbearable, and I mean that. I was in so much pain I started sweating and passed out. After that, I stopped using the ring and I’m completely back to myself! Please be aware."

For Birth Control "I have never had such a horrible experience on birth control in my life! The EluRyng made my anxiety go through the roof, extreme nausea, irritable mood swings, my resting heart rate was around 110 bpm, and I started having suicidal thoughts. I thought it was just my anxiety getting worse, but after getting desperate to feel half normal again, I started doing research and realized it was the EluRyng (I don’t take any other medications). This stuff is scary and needs to be recalled ASAP!"

For Birth Control "Like most others here, was on NuvaRing for a while, and everything was great: barely any periods, no hormonal acne, no nausea. Got swapped to EluRyng when my insurance suddenly stopped covering it. And it was bad. Started bleeding more, and randomly, and pain. I'm honestly disappointed that I came from no periods/hormonal acne to just bleeding on nearly all my underwear because now periods don't seem to have a pattern."

For Birth Control "My insurance only covers EluRyng now. I have had intense back pain, unable to sit up on my own, pain in other parts of my body, and I had spotting for one month. I'm now on my fourth ring removal and no period. Omg, I'm freaking out. Why make this generic version? NuvaRing was perfect for me, back to square one. I can't take pills, patches, shots, or implants. It literally took me years to get here."

For Birth Control "NuvaRing caused anxiety and depression for me. After 3 years of the ring, I was experiencing severe anxiety and feelings of loneliness, restlessness, irritability, fatigue, sadness, and I could not understand where it was coming from. After putting two and two together, I removed the ring and within 24 hours that awful fog lifted, and I'm back to myself again. I think NuvaRing is a super alternative to the conventional pill, but please watch out for signs of anxiety and/or depression. The difference after I took it out was shocking, and I really wish that I had been told this could happen. I hate to think how many women are suffering from this debilitating mental health issue without realizing that it is their contraception. In terms of application, wear, and comfort, the NuvaRing is easy, convenient, and overall great. It is easy to apply and causes no problems whatsoever, it has never dislodged or caused discomfort."
