Escitalopram for Anxiety "Like many others, I have sought refuge in these testimonials while I’ve waited for Lex to kick in. After 4 and a half weeks, I’m finally enjoying what it feels like to experience the beginning of the light at the end of the tunnel. Four days ago, my doctor raised my dose from 10 to 20 mg. What a quick and big difference. Mood and energy have lifted, and I’m hungry! Early days, but I just had to share my joy with those of you who may be doubting whether the nausea, dry mouth, low libido, and other side effects are worth it. Patience has paid off, as have the dose increase and accepting the reality that for most of us, breakthrough comes in 4-6 weeks. Hoping I can write in week six that things are still improving."

For Anxiety "I want to share my experience so far. I've been taking Escitalopram 10mg for 5 days. So far I feel my brain feels foggy, nauseated, no appetite, and I feel restless. I am reading that most people feel better by the second week with less to no side effects, so I am hopeful that I will soon feel like myself. I am hoping that these symptoms go away today. Good luck to everyone. May your journey on escitalopram be a great one!"

Escitalopram for Anxiety "I really hope that my review can help someone out there. Even if it only helps one person, it will be worth it to me. I just had my first child in the month of April, and about 3 months later, I noticed something was different. I was scared to leave the house, and even the most simple tasks seemed overwhelming. My thoughts were racing, I would pace back and forth, and I was having multiple panic attacks. I wanted to call the emergency room because I thought I was losing my mind! After suffering for a month, I spoke to my doctor, and she prescribed me 10 mg of Lexapro. I had every side effect, including upset stomach, hot flashes, going to the bathroom constantly, insomnia, mood swings, shaky hands, loss of appetite, and nausea. After 3 weeks, my side effects are almost gone! My appetite is back, I don't have panic attacks anymore, and I'm not scared to leave the house! Please be patient with this medication. It takes 3-4 weeks to even BEGIN to be effective!"

Escitalopram for Depression "I used this page for support when I first started out on Lexapro, so I thought I'd give back. I was prescribed Lexapro 10mg for dysthymia (mild chronic depression) and anxiety. The first few weeks were accompanied by a persistent mild headache and some nausea. I was much more tired - slept 8-hour nights plus an afternoon nap. 10 days into my prescription, I was at the beach and I noticed some people's swimsuits appeared to have brighter colors. The world slowly began to appear more vivid visually and to have more 'depth'. At some point, rumination almost completely stopped. Two months in, the world seems much more inviting and much less harsh than it used to. This drug works for me."

Escitalopram for Anxiety "Lexapro is AMAZING if you can make it through the beginning. At first you may feel sick or not want to eat, a little depression here and there. But trust me if you can make it through that the rest is smooth sailing. I feel like myself again! Happy, can't stop talking and being joyful. I am so thankful I tried this because I really do not worry anymore. I am just happy and experiencing a lot more because I have such a clear head now(:"

Escitalopram for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I wanted to share my experience because when I first started taking Lexapro, I read these boards daily searching for hope. I have always had anxiety, but it was not until this summer that I started experiencing physical symptoms. I was constantly nauseous, often felt dizzy, and my heart would flutter in my chest nonstop. I thought I was losing my mind and going crazy. This led to depression and a feeling of hopelessness. I went to the doctor and had every test in the book done, and nothing was wrong. I was then prescribed Lexapro, and the first couple of weeks were rough. I started on 5mg for two weeks, and during that time, I was also taking 0.25 Xanax a day while I got used to the Lexapro. I am now two months into 10mg and have never felt better!"

Escitalopram for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "Let me start off by saying this! DO NOT GIVE UP! I have always been a worrywart, but last February, I went through a lot of stress. In March, I was having horrible panic attacks. My chest would feel icy hot, legs and arms would go weak, lost my appetite to the point where I couldn’t physically eat. My heart would pound, and I would be dizzy. Went to the doctor's, and he said I have anxiety. He started me off with 5mg of Lexapro for 2 weeks. The side effects made me worse. I wanted to give up. I was dizzy, extremely anxious, nausea, retching all day, couldn't eat, couldn’t sleep, night sweats, and I missed my period. Now I’m 6 weeks in on 10mg, and I feel amazing!! My period came back, I can eat again, and no anxiety!! God blessed me with a great doctor and this medicine."

Escitalopram for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "Lexapro was the first meds I took to help with my anxiety and panic attacks and worked great. I did get side effects for only the first week, I had nausea and headaches, the side effects were tolerable though. Little by little, I felt like I was able to get my life back. The only side effect that made me want to stop was a decrease in my sex drive. If it weren't for that, it would be a 10/10 for me."

Escitalopram for Depression "I have been on Lexapro 10 mg for six weeks. I was really nervous to start because I have never taken any type of medication before. The first few weeks I did have side effects (including nausea, dry mouth, and a kind of out-of-it feeling). It worried me but I stuck it out for four weeks because all of my medical friends insisted that I do. I am so glad that I did! I feel so at ease about everything that used to control my mind excessively. I am so much more bubbly and comfortable with conversations with others. It really just took that edge off for me. All of the side effects have gone away. I strongly recommend."

Escitalopram for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "After being off of Lexapro for about 3 years and trying natural remedies, I met my breaking point. All areas of my life were suffering. I restarted 5mg the first week, then 10mg the next 2 and a half weeks. The side effects during those first 3 weeks were horrible: nausea, extreme fatigue, dizziness, and no appetite. I knew I would go back to square one if I stopped. I increased my dose to 20mg as I had done very well on it in the past. The side effects were still there but not as bad. One and a half weeks on 20mg, I feel great. More energy, feeling social with family and friends. Before, I hated being around people. I still have a little longer to feel normal, but I'll continue this medication. Regardless of the horror stories you've heard, remember everyone is different and your body will most likely respond differently. I know it's hard not to get discouraged and question whether it's working the first few weeks, but don't give up and don't stop taking it. Give your body the chance to get used to it. Trust me, you will be glad you did."

Escitalopram for Irritable Bowel Syndrome "Lexapro has SAVED my life! I was struggling with extreme irritable bowel syndrome symptoms, took every medicine for it. Lexapro was the only thing that has helped me. I now feel like a normal person! If you are struggling with IBS, please give Lexapro a try. I take 10 mg once a day, but START AT HALF THE DOSE. I started at 5 mg for two weeks then went up to the 10 mg. This eliminated getting bad side effects, the only side effect I got was a little nausea for the first couple of days, but then it went away. Good luck to everyone, I hope Lexapro will help you all as much as it has helped me."

Escitalopram for Anxiety "I'll share my experience with Lexapro so far. I've been on it for a month now. Before starting it, I couldn't work, had daily panic attacks, social phobia, and derealization. It was awful, truly. I started on 10mg and had awful side effects - felt weird, insomnia, nausea, diarrhea, increased anxiety! You name it. So I went down to 5mg, that was fine and no side effects at all. Although my anxiety was better, it wasn't gone. I upped to 7.5mg and did that for a bit. No side effects. I have to mention that I do take my Lexapro at nighttime because it still makes me very sleepy, but I sleep through that, obviously. I am now on 10mg after the gradual upping, and I have to say, my anxiety is nearly completely gone! I feel like myself again, and work (I work in the emergency department at a hospital) has been great. I am only assuming it will get even better in a month. I know when you start, the side effects can be hard, and you will want to stop. All I can say is hold out!"

Escitalopram for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I'm a healthy 32-year-old female. I started to experience severe panic attacks, insomnia, and had no appetite. The anxiety got so bad that it turned into derealization basically 24/7. I was dizzy all the time and had heart palpitations, chest pains, and shaking. I couldn't even leave my house. Then started the depression. I was crying on and off most days. I couldn't function and didn't feel like myself at all. I have always been against medication and did everything the natural way. None of that helped. I finally decided to try Lexapro 5mg, and it honestly saved me. I was so scared of feeling like a zombie or having no emotions, but it's not like that at all. I feel like me, just no anxiety or depression. I had some nausea in the beginning and slightly increased anxiety, but Ativan helped with the side effects. I've been on it for a little over 2 months now, and I don't regret anything. I sleep and eat great now. I live a normal, happy life. Please give it a try if you're suffering."

Escitalopram for Depression "I was at a breaking point and couldn't take any more bad thoughts and sad days. It got to the point where I was crying up to 4 times a day, snapping at my husband and kids, having to call in to work because I couldn't pull it together long enough to function. It was bad. I had negative thoughts and obsessed about something bad happening to myself or my daughter and not at the hands of myself. Side effects were bad at first - insomnia, nausea, swimmy head, anxiety. Those only lasted until about day 5 and I was told to push through and tough it out. Every day since has been better and better, and I finally feel normal again. Lexapro saved my life."

Escitalopram for Anxiety "I started Lexapro less than 3 weeks ago and I absolutely love it. I was extremely nauseous and threw up several times just hours after taking it my first week, so I started taking it an hour before bed (also makes me very drowsy so it helps me fall asleep). I am no longer feeling sick whatsoever. I have lost more than 10 pounds and have gained TONS of self-confidence. I highly recommend trying Lexapro."

Escitalopram for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "All I can say is WOW! I never write reviews on anything, but this Lexapro drug well and truly deserves a review! This has been my third medication I’ve been on in the last 4 years for GAD, which I recently came off my previous medication that I was on for four months, as it wasn't doing anything. Once I started mirtazapine, I felt better within 2 days of taking it. My physical symptoms of anxiety like nausea and rapid heart rate have completely gone. I was waking up every day with anxiety, but now it's completely gone! I’ve been on Lexapro for only a week or maybe less, and I can’t wait to see what I’m going to be like in a month or two down the track. I was at my wits' end with this horrible rut I’ve been in for 6 months, and within the space of two days, I feel like myself again. I honestly can’t comprehend it. Hands down the best medication out there for anxiety and depression. Thank you so much Lexapro."

Escitalopram for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "Life and work progressively got worse over the last 18 months, withdrawn, moody, insomnia, short with family, lack of concentration, anxiety and suicidal thoughts and plans. Had major panic attack, ended up in the hospital with symptoms similar to a heart attack and even had an angiogram. Started a cocktail of meds and ended up with 10mg of Lexapro and now on 20mg. It has really settled me, however, I still struggle to complete tasks and am off work. Counseling is also assisting. I have a review this week but diarrhea, insomnia, and slight nausea have continued. If I can fix the diarrhea, I will be very happy. I take meds in the AM."

Escitalopram for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I've been on 10mg for 6 weeks. I am a mom and a wife, I have close friendships with girlfriends, work out 5 days a week, and I am a genuinely happy person. But I have always felt stressed and anxious. I would go days without sleeping (more than 2-3 hours). I was afraid to start Lexapro because I thought it would change me, but I just got to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore - the anxiety and sleep deprivation were getting worse and worse. I started with 5mg for 5 days and then moved up to 10mg. The first week was pretty bad. I was exhausted, nauseous, and very lethargic. But each week got better! I haven’t taken a Xanax in 4+ weeks, and I sleep 8 hours every night. When I do have stressful situations, I am able to deal with them in a productive way, without going down this spiral path of anxiety and helplessness. I feel like myself, but just better. I can deal with problems, I am calm, I can put things in perspective. It has helped so much."

Escitalopram for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I've been taking Lexapro for about 2 years now, and it has been a lifesaver. I developed an anxiety disorder that gave me a constant nauseous feeling and fast heartbeat. My doctor gave me Lexapro, and the first few weeks were a hard adjustment, but after that, I felt so much better. I got my life back on track."

Escitalopram for Anxiety "I love this medication! I have been on it for about a year and it has made my life so much better. I had been living with severe anxiety and depression. After starting Lexapro, I had some side effects such as weird dreams, nausea, dizziness, and increased anxiety. After 2 weeks, I started to feel so much better! I now have less anxiety and I have not had a panic attack in 6 months! It is amazing how great I feel. Finally, I can live my life like a normal 24-year-old! My advice to anyone who is on this medicine is to stay on it! It is worth it!"

Escitalopram for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "For the past year or so, my anxiety has been at an all-time high. I couldn't sleep at night. I couldn't eat a full meal. I felt lost and hopeless. A few weeks into my new job, I went to a new physician's assistant. She prescribed 10 mg of Lexapro daily for anxiety and 50 mg of hydroxyzine as needed for anxiety and insomnia. She also suggested I look into therapy. The two days of Lexapro were a nightmare. I was foggy, dizzy, nauseous, and not able to stay awake for more than a few hours. I went onto this website and read testimonials that inspired me to keep going. Now that I am 4 weeks in, I am so happy I decided to stay on Lexapro. I am able to tackle stressors more effectively. I feel more content and happy in my everyday interactions, and am leaning more into my support system of close friends and family. My appetite is normal, and food actually tastes good again. I am looking into counseling/therapy options. I feel hopeful for the first time in a long time."

Escitalopram for Depression "I just wanted to post my experience with Lexapro. I have been on it for about four weeks, and it has changed my life for the best. Before I got prescribed this medicine, I was going to bed crying and waking up crying. Couldn't keep up with my mother duties because I was scared I was going to die and was having horrible panic attacks. I have not had any panic attacks since the end of the first week, and I have not had the nausea feeling since week three, so I am doing way better. Didn't really have any other side effects from the medicine. I can't wait to see my doctor so I can thank her for saving me from anxiety and depression."

Escitalopram for Anxiety "I have been dealing with anxiety my whole life but have tried to go the natural route, but nothing ever worked. It was affecting my marriage, the way I was with my kids and work. So I finally did something about it and I’m so glad I did! My Dr. prescribed me Lexapro 10mg. The first week I had slight nausea, diarrhea, and no appetite, but I did start feeling more calm. Lexapro helped me so much. I could drive without feeling anxious, go to work events with confidence. I was better at handling situations at work and at home. Unfortunately, the downside for me was I ended up gaining 15lbs within 5 months. It definitely slowed down my metabolism. It was easy to gain, and no matter how much healthier I tried to eat, I could not lose the weight. I have been slender my whole life so this was making me feel so depressed about the way I looked. So sadly, I had to stop taking it. I highly recommend Lexapro. I just happened to be in that 10% side effect that it could cause weight gain."

Escitalopram for Depression "I am a 53-year-old female. I fell into a deep depression 1 year ago. I couldn't sleep or eat, had severe anxiety, and almost couldn't function at all. I had feelings of hopelessness, even felt suicidal at times. I was frightened. My psychiatrist tried several medicines. I am VERY sensitive to medication. Celebrex and Celexa made me sick. I tried 5 mg of Lexapro. I felt jittery and a little nauseous but stuck with it. After 2 weeks, I went up to 10 mg. After 4-5 weeks, I started to feel normal again. The side effects got better. My sex drive is fine, and I haven't experienced weight gain. It's been a year, and we are thinking about weaning me off in a couple of months. I am so happy I stuck with Lexapro. It saved my life. Don't give up."

Escitalopram for Depression "All I can say is wow. I can't believe the difference Lexapro has made in my life. I used to have horrible anxiety, suicidal thoughts, no motivation. Now I am excited for life, chasing after it. Colors are brighter, everything tastes better. Memories of my childhood that I couldn't recall before came back. I've also been waking up early when I used to fight to wake up at noon. Now, these results took a while. I felt an improvement in mood at about three weeks, and an increase in motivation at about five weeks. The first two weeks were rough - I experienced many side effects including mood swings, night sweats, nausea, increase in intrusive thoughts... but boy was it worth it."
