For Acne "I would not recommend Yasmin. After being on Sprintec for years and trying Nexplanon, I was put on Yasmin to help with my moderate acne. I started it in Nov 2020. Within maybe 2 months, I saw an improvement in my acne, which was great. Over time, my mental health went absolutely downhill. I found myself crying constantly over everything. I became depressed, VERY anxious, and did not want to spend time with anyone. I would lock myself away in my room in bed. I began doubting all my relationships and questioning everything around me (i.e., what was the point of life). It took me months to realize it may be Yasmin. I stopped taking Yasmin at the beginning of June 2021. About two weeks after stopping Yasmin, I was feeling a lot more like my old self. If anyone has had their mental health dramatically plummet while taking Yasmin, you are not crazy. Yasmin can absolutely wreak havoc on your emotional well-being. Please talk to your doctor about other options. I now have an IUD that I love."

For Birth Control "I never post on these forums, but it's nice not to feel alone! Started taking Yasmin one month ago for BC. Going to wait it out a couple of months, as that seems to be the best option. I had a TERRIBLE breakout of acne (no major issues in years). I'm on the first lot of sugar pills now, and my skin has calmed down drastically, so I'm hoping it won't break out again. Also, I haven't had any bleeding yet on my 'period' week, but heard this is normal. My boobs feel HUGE and tender, but I haven't noticed any weight gain, possible weight loss, but thanks to my unusually large boobs, I do feel large and heavy. Also, just started to notice some irritability and anxiety. Skipping my period next pack due to a holiday, so curious how that will affect any side effects!"

For Birth Control "I started taking Yasmin over 5 years ago to clear my chin acne caused by PCOS. While it did clear my skin and made my periods lighter, my mental health deteriorated more and more. I thought I was going crazy, crying uncontrollably over small things, snapping at people, having suicidal thoughts. I also had heart palpitations, which I thought were anxiety. It wasn’t until I spoke with others who also experienced the same and saw these reviews that I put 2 and 2 together and have stopped taking it. Clear skin is not worth the emotional rollercoaster this pill causes!"

For Acne "I've been on Yasmin for a few years, I wouldn't recommend this pill to people who suffer from migraines and headaches. I went on the pill for my skin, and all it did was make me retain water and gain a few pounds. Extreme anxiety and constant migraines and headaches, as this pill caused high blood pressure. This explains all the headaches, I've just decided to go off it. The only positive was my skin was amazing and didn't get one pimple for a few years. I've decided to now go off it, so hopefully I'll see changes."

For Birth Control "I have been on this pill for 2 years. The first year and a half was good. Lost weight, cleared acne, etc. However, now I am severely tired all the time, my periods are still 7 days long, I have extreme anxiety, which is causing relationship breakdowns and constantly crying. I don't recommend this pill."

For Birth Control "I started taking Yasmin 3 months after I had my baby. I've gained weight, feel low/anxious from time to time, leg pain, random hot flushes, very angry over nothing (I've never been an angry person) and just feel all over a bit rubbish with my relationships. My baby will be a year old next month, and today is my last day taking this pill. It never clicked with me that this is causing my low mood, etc."

For Birth Control "BEWARE! I’ve never had issues with birth control pills before or mental health issues. Within a month, I noticed a huge change. Depressed, horrible anxiety, crying every day, and felt completely worthless. It got to the point where I was terrified of what was happening, and so was my family. I finally linked it to the pill and stopped. I felt SO much better once it was out of my system and back to how I was before. I understand everyone responds to medications differently, but please be cautious in regards to this medication. Very scary."

For Birth Control "This birth control has got me all messed up. Literally. I was prescribed Yasmin when I had breakthrough bleeding with Freya. I was on Yasmin for a little over a year, and during that time, I started to question all of my relationships. I cried every day. My hair was falling out and breaking. I felt crazy. My anxiety was through the roof, I didn't sleep and rarely ate, especially because my self-esteem became so slow. Now, after stopping Yasmin, it has messed up my fertility. I had normal periods and a normal cycle before going on the pill. Altogether, I was on birth control for 2 years. Now, I get a period every 2 and a half months, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. They vary too, sometimes I'll only spot for a few days, and another time I'll bleed for the whole 7. I have been off Yasmin for over a year now, and I'm at a loss on what to do. No one will give me solutions except to go back on birth control or start fertility drugs. When did the only solution go to taking drugs?? Be warned."

For Acne "I used the generic version for birth control and to control my cystic acne, which had started a few months prior at age 21. The first few months using the pill, I didn't notice many mood-related side effects but experienced pretty severe acne. After about 6 months, my skin had cleared up, but I began experiencing a lot of anxiety and became depressed. I also lost weight around this time, but I'm not sure if this was a direct impact of the pill or a result of the fact that I started working out like crazy to counteract the anxiety I was experiencing. I had started to break out again (cystic acne mainly around my temples and sides of my face), and my mental health (and sex drive!) had just tanked. This persisted until I decided to stop taking the pill after about 10 and a half months of usage; I stopped taking the pill in March 2021, and since then my mood has improved significantly, my sex drive has improved, and my skin has also improved with improvements to my diet and skin care routine."

For Menstrual Disorders "I began taking Yasmin when it first came out, i.e., around 1999 or so, for irregular periods. My PCP recommended birth control, and after researching them all, I chose Yasmin as it touted the fact that the progestin (drospirenone) contained a diuretic. After a few months, I started having anxiety, insomnia, and eventually horrible depression. On the upside, because the drospirenone is an anti-androgenic progestin, my hair grew incredibly long and thick, and stupid vanity kept me on it. On balance, I would not suggest this pill as a form of birth control for anyone. I eventually gained 15 lbs after a couple of years of use and was an emotional wreck, which impacted my career. My hormones never really returned to normal after stopping it either."

For Birth Control "I had taken this pill for PCOS for 6 months, and that was probably the worst time of my life when I suffered from severe anxiety and depression. While I lost 6 kg in weight and had clear skin, on the other hand, I lost my sleep and sanity! The most difficult phase was my mental condition after I stopped taking the pill, I had to seek medical help to get out of that condition! It is strongly advised not to take this pill, especially if you are already suffering from any kind of mental health issue."

For Birth Control "The first couple of months I had been taking this pill were fine, good for birth control, however, I started to notice severe dry eye. I had depression/anxiety symptoms before while on BC, but the symptoms have been much worse lately. I am now going off the pill to see if this helps."

For Acne "I decided to try Yasmin after suffering from adult acne for years. After nearly 5 months, my face is still covered in 15-20 spots at a time. I also gained 30 pounds in 2.5 months. I feel depressed and anxious all the time. I can’t wait to switch to something else. The high risk of stroke with this one is not worth the supposed benefits. The only positive: it does not dry me out down there. I read all the reviews before starting it and had high hopes, but it was bad for me."

For Birth Control "I've been on Yasmin for about 5 years now. In the beginning, it seemed really good as I was put on it because the one oral pill I was taking at the time ended up being discontinued. My body seemed to adjust well to the change. Recently, I have realized just how much taking this pill has taken a toll on me over the years I have been using it. I've gained weight, am more full of anxiety than I have ever been, and I am in a constant state of fear from it. Depression is tenfold, low sex drive, and now an increased amount of breast pain on my left side. Just recently, there were about two days I had to wait to refill my prescription. So those two days, I wasn't taking it - beforehand, I was experiencing 100/10 breast tenderness and pain more on my left side than my right even after a menstrual cycle. The two days I was off it, I had no breast pain whatsoever. When my prescription got filled and I started taking it again, this breast pain has come back."

For Birth Control "I've been on Yasmin for 8 months. My periods are regular now and almost painless (major improvement). My anxiety, I think, has been damped, but my overall mood is a fraction lower than before (I'm okay with this though because it's stable, I don't get mood swings around my period anymore). My skin is MUCH more stable - had painful acne before, now I just get one or two spots around my period. I have noticed my hair getting thinner in the past year or so, and I'm wondering if this could be related after reading other reviews, but I have also had a lot of work stress. I'm thinking of coming off the pill, however, the biggest side effect currently is my low sex drive (used to be very high), which defeats the purpose of birth control for me as I am using it to have safer sex. Not looking forward to my old periods back though. From personal experience, if you already have a low sex drive or don't mind changing yours, then this pill has been great."

For Birth Control "Both my GP and gyno wrote me a prescription for birth control for my endometriosis, and I never filled it because I was weary. My prescription lapsed from my GP, and my gyno said it would be best to fill for me because I've had bad experiences on other pills. The first day on it, I was fine, but as days went on, my mood turned ugly. I'd lash out and have a short fuse around everyone for the smallest things around 1 pm until the time for the next pill (9 pm). In between that, I got a foggy head and felt dull and blank. I zoned out and couldn't think at all. My anxiety also skyrocketed. I was on this pill for TWO WEEKS and couldn't deal with these side effects. It's not worth sticking with. $84.00 straight into the garbage."

For Acne "I took this pill for less than a month. My acne got worse than it has ever been before. I'd never had issues with anxiety and self-esteem until I took the pill. The pill controlled my emotions, and I was always down and 'depressed.' I took the pill specifically for acne, but it only made mine worse. My skin was sensitive, the acne was flared and bubble-like. My skin was hard like a rock when I touched it, and any movement would cause it pain. Worst experience, and I regret taking it. With those who have acne issues and don't specifically care for a birth control, I recommend using a cream called TactuPump (adapalene - benzoyl peroxide); it does require a prescription, but it works wonders, and 3 months tops, your skin will be clear. You'll even notice results within the first 3 weeks."

For Birth Control "I was on Yasmin, the birth control for my periods, to see if it would clear my skin and to stop me from getting pregnant. While I was on the pill, my periods were lighter, my skin got alright but not that clear. I do not recommend this pill because instantly after 3 weeks or so, I had major anxiety and depression, which led to not going to school, work, and relationship problems. Now, my doctor prescribed me Ortho-Cyclen, and I’m loving it so far!!!"

For Birth Control "My dears, do not resort to taking Yasmin. Before, I used to wash my hair once a week, sometimes even every 10 days, and had perfect skin. I decided to give Yasmin up because I wanted to let my body get back to normal before trying to get pregnant. After approximately 6 months, I got cystic, painful acne on my temples, chin, neck, back, and cheeks. My scalp started producing so much oil that by the second day it was already greasy. And behold, my hair texture changed: the new hair growth was so frizzy it looked fried. The major downfall was my bones, which started cracking almost every 10 steps. And the anxiety was immense. I had times when I just couldn't control my mind, and I thought I was going mad. It's been a bit over a year, and I'm slowly getting back to normal. I have minor breakouts, my sebum production has gotten easier to manage, but I'm still not completely rid of Yasmin's effects. So please, don't resort to BCP. Find natural ways to cure what needs to be healed. There are also many ways to prevent a pregnancy."

For Acne "This pill is amazing for acne. It will clear your skin up in a jiffy. The downside, however, from my experience, is that you get very depressed and anxious around my period."

For Birth Control "I lasted only 1 month on this pill. As soon as I started taking this, I was an emotional, angry, anxious mess. Everything either made me angry or it made me cry. I was also exhausted all the time. I normally work out 2-3 times a week, but I noticed I was so tired every day, I only worked out maybe once a week. As for weight gain, I think I might have gained some water weight, but nothing too noticeable. It didn't affect my appetite too much either. I was on Junel Fe before, which was great until the very end, where I started getting abnormal periods. I'm on my placebo/period week now and cramping and heavy flow. Two things I didn't have much of with Junel. I'm switching to Apri next week, and praying it works better for me!"
