For Birth Control "I’ve been using Yasmin for over a year now, and it’s cleared my skin and lightened my heavy periods, as that was the reason I had to go on it. But I cannot stop crying?!? Like I never would’ve been like that before, and now I never want to go anywhere or go out. I feel like I’ve pushed all my friends away. I just feel irritated that I’m so emotional and that I can’t do anything to help the situation, it’s so frustrating. Honestly, it’s a hit or miss for everyone, but there are more good days than bad days, which is a plus. I just feel a bit depressed and stressed out about every small thing and get worked up over nothing. But I don’t think I’d be able to stop taking it because it has done what it was supposed to as my periods have decreased a lot in cramps and duration. It would last a week, but with the pill, it lasts 4 days at the most!"

For Birth Control "Only positive is my boobs looked amazing. I turned into a short-fused, depressed cow. Usually such a happy, placid, and understanding person. Was such a shock for my partner and caused massive arguments. I experienced brain fog, severe depressive moods, severe anxiety, and my pimples didn't budge. In the end, my relationship meant too much to me to stick it out on Yasmin. My sister also had the same experience."

For Birth Control "I've been on Yasmin a year now, and honestly, if your doctor offers you this pill, say no. They don't tell you about the really bad mood swings you get, or the anger attacks, or the anxiety and depression, and even the nausea I get every day. I am now suffering from all of this because of Yasmin. I never knew how bad my anger was until my partner said about how bad it actually was. I've only just realized that my anger has been ridiculous over the past months. If any of you are experiencing these things, I'd suggest you stop taking Yasmin and go back to your doctors for another pill. It is dangerous."

For Birth Control "I only lasted on Yasmin for 2.5 weeks. I'm a 29-year-old mommy of 1 and haven't taken birth control in about two years. Without any birth control, my periods were very regular and my acne was moderate. I'm a fitness lover, so I'm very strict with exercise and nutrition, and I keep my weight in check at all times. My OB prescribed Yasmin to treat my ovulation and menstrual cramping and moderate PMS. This pill turned me into someone else entirely. Within the first two weeks, I had acne all over my chin and under my nose. I became extremely moody, weepy, depressed, anxious, paranoid, and jealous. The anxiety made my chest tight, and it was hard to take deep breaths at times. I kept telling my husband when we would go out in public that I felt like I was walking in some sort of 'dream world'-I wasn't really there. ...And the weight gain! I spend 5-6 days in the gym every week and eat very healthy-only splurging on small cheat meals on the weekends. In one week, I gained 4 pounds without changing anything, and my stomach stayed hard and bloated looking-it looked like I was pregnant! On top of all of that, my breasts were sore, and I had breakthrough bleeding starting on week 2. I'll take cramping and PMS any day over the side effects associated with this pill."

For Birth Control "I was on Yasmin about 4 years ago and seemed to be doing okay. Then when I went to get my prescription, my doctor said Yasmin was too dangerous due to blood clots, etc., so I had to go on Rigvidon (UK contraceptive pill generic of Nordette or Levora 0.15/30). Rigvidon turned my life upside down for 18 months - horrendous anxiety for no reason, the start of depression, major brain fog, socially withdrawn, and crying nearly every day. I was pill-free for around 3 years after that awful experience. I decided to go back on Yasmin recently as the pill makes my spot-prone skin (at nearly 30) so clear, improves painful and heavy periods, and obviously as contraception. However, after just two months on it, I am absolutely exhausted, constant fatigue even though sleeping well, feeling lazy, down, distant, and not interested in anything, intense headaches the day before and of my period starting, and generally feeling like I could sleep 24/7 and don't want to work or speak to anyone. I will be coming off again now as it's just not worth it!"

For Birth Control "I’ll just start by saying if I could rate this drug -10, I would. I was on this pill for 2 months, and in that time, I developed severe depression, didn’t want to leave the house, had the worst anxiety and self-worth issues. I felt so low and even had such dark thoughts. My first period after starting the pill was the worst experience of my life, the pains were excruciating. The pain woke me up in the middle of the night, and it was so bad that I was contemplating going to A&E. I couldn’t even stand up straight, and I’ll also mention that I have a high pain tolerance, and periods never usually affect me. I initially went on the pill to clear my acne, and it did clear a little, but I’m not sure if it was Yasmin or other medication that helped. Since coming off the pill, I’ve had such bad headaches and unbelievably dry eyes, which sting, cause blurry vision, and are very annoying. I also had a lot of hair loss on my temples. I was only on this for a short time, and all of this happened."

For Birth Control "My doctor prescribed Yasmin (later Yasmin Plus) 3 years ago for severe dysmenorrhea, and for the first time in my life, I had mild and regulated periods. But a few months in, it all went downhill. Headaches, low energy levels, intense weight gain, cup size increase, hair loss, and pretty much chronic bloating and constipation. I also started losing interest in daily activities, was short-tempered, and developed severe anxiety, borderline depression. I consulted both a psychiatrist and a psychologist. I was placed on fluoxetine (antidepressants) for over a year. It's been a month since I quit Yasmin (I'm also off fluoxetine), and my mental health has improved. I have swollen legs now, and my body feels weird. Hoping to get back to normal soon. I'm yet to see my periods post the pill, and I'm working so hard to get rid of this weight."

For Acne "I was really excited to go on Yasmin because I was so excited to get rid of my acne because I had been using creams and antibiotics for about two years, and nothing had worked. The first few months on the pill, nothing happened to my skin, if anything, it had gotten a bit worse. I also couldn't stop crying and got depressed and anxious, which lasted about a month. I also gained about 5-7 kg, but I didn't care about any of this because I was just tired of bad skin. It was only after about 7-8 months when my skin really cleared up. Now, after about 2 years, my skin is pretty much clear aside from the odd pimple. I still have this like 3 kg that I just can't seem to get rid of though."

For Birth Control "I only rated it 1, because 0 was not an option. As soon as I started to use it, I developed headaches. I had a headache all day, every day. I also started to get migraines, and I have never had a migraine in my life, nor did I really suffer from headaches. I got anxiety attacks to the point where I didn't want to walk through or pass a group of people in the supermarket. I cried every single day of my life and became extremely angry. I almost became an atheist, since all I was feeling was this immense darkness and pressure over me. Religion is very important to me, but I just didn't see the need for it anymore. I started to hide under my desk just to escape the world. Saying that it was a horrible experience doesn't even justify what it put me through."

For Birth Control "Bloody awful! I took the first pill on my first day of menstruating, and I became so anxious and felt hopeless. I already suffer with my mental health, but I have not been this bad for years. I have not been sleeping at all. Tired but wired! My brain will not switch off. Been getting around 2 hours of sleep. I have 10 more pills to take until my next 7-day period, but I’m stopping it from tomorrow. Cannot deal with this anymore. I hope in the coming days I will start to feel brighter - can’t feel much worse, to be honest! The only way is up ⬆️!!! YASMIN; never EVER again!"

For Birth Control "So in March, I got infected by coronavirus and had side effects after recovery. One side effect or after effect of COVID was irregular periods. My gynac recommended Primolut N for about 5 days to kick start my periods, but it didn’t really help. So I started taking Yasmin on suggestion by my doctor, and let me tell you what this pill does. It’s just so awful, it made me gain some weight, gave me acne, made me constipated, and I was nothing but a walking catastrophe. Got severe anxiety, and I cry CONSTANTLY. I’ve never felt so unstable in my entire life. Going off it in 2 days, really hope this pill has worked and that I don’t have to take it anymore, cause if I continue taking this pill, I’ll have to go live alone as my family will not be able to tolerate me anymore."

For Birth Control "As someone who suffers from emotional instability anyway, I wasn’t surprised to learn the awful ways of this pill. But since I’d tried spironolactone with no result and had an unwanted pregnancy, I had no choice but to go back on this pill. Weeks 1, 2, and 3 I was thinking maybe I’ve overcome my mental illness, but my boyfriend begs to differ. I am even more delusional, paranoid, controlling, and obsessive. But hey, month 2, my relationship is almost over, but at least my hormonal acne is clearing... it was either pairing this with spironolactone or going on Roaccutane."

For Birth Control "BEWARE THE DEVIL PILL!! The utmost worst experience of my life on Yasmin. The first month was ok..... I continued to take it, up until the third month I started to see the side effects creeping through. My hair was falling out, and I began to get very thin lining on the top of my scalp, which is horrible!!! And looks horrible too. My anxiety was at its worst. I gained at least 10 kilos within four months of being on this pill and was recommended by my doctor to take it as it is one that most likely you wouldn't gain weight on. I guess all bodies are different. However... The 5th/6th month of being on this pill was the worst time of my life.... My depression was so high and strong, and I felt as though I could not function at all! Don't recommend it."

For Birth Control "I was on Yasmin for almost 6 years, and it worked wonders for me. I never suffered from bad skin. I was prescribed Yasmin for heavy bleeding on my periods, and it helped a lot with my flow of bleeding. I never noticed any mood changes or negative things to say about the Yasmin pill. A few days ago, I was diagnosed with low serotonin levels in my brain (neurotransmitter responsible for your moods). Doctors and pharmacists say it was because I had been on the pill for so long. I would cry all the time, became negative, moody, so anxious, and depressive. I had to go on antidepressants to get my serotonin levels up again. I have never been an unhappy person or anxious person, I was always happy and an outgoing person. So if you want to go on the pill for any reason, make sure you do not stay on it for too long! Yasmin is a good pill for a short while but not for the long run."

For Birth Control "I have been taking Yasmin for a few months now, after being on Dianette for years, to help with bad skin. I had my 7-day pill-free break and then realized I had run out, so I haven’t been on it for 2 weeks and now need to get a Dr's appointment to get more. I’ve noticed in that two-week period of not taking it that I’ve had no appetite to eat ‘bad foods.’ I feel lighter and brighter. My mental state is clearer. I’ve had quite bad low periods and anxiety, and I think I’ve just realized that it could have been pill-related. After reading everyone else’s comments, I can’t think why I didn’t put two and two together. I’m now quite sure I don’t want to take this again (I’m 37 and have 1 child), so I need to look at alternatives!"

For Birth Control "Took this pill for about 2 years. It really affected my mental health, and it took me a while to realize that it was the pill. I was really depressed, anxious, and crying despite nothing objectively 'bad' happening in my life. I also felt this tension throughout my body and didn't feel like myself. So glad that I'm off this pill now. As for skin, it didn't make my skin significantly better and potentially made it worse by all of the stress that I was experiencing."

For Birth Control "Started taking this in September 2019, and by November, I was extremely depressed and deeply sad/emotional. I was suicidal for the first time in years and quit my job and moved city. Depression stayed until March 2020, then the pandemic hit, and I became very suicidal and addicted to alcohol for the first time in my life. Started depression medicine and felt a bit better. Came off the pill in June until November and was the happiest I've ever been but didn't link it to being off the pill. Went back on the pill and one month later had serious depressive episodes and suicidal ideation. Only now, in August 2021, am I linking my depression to this pill after hearing a friend had the same experience. Stay away from this medicine!"

For Birth Control "I changed from Yasminelle to Yasmin because of some spotting I was having, and after 5 days of being on Yasmin, I started to get extremely anxious and guilty feelings over small things. I knew straight away that it was the pill, so after about a week, I switched back to my old pill, and after a week, I felt back to normal again. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who already suffers from mild anxiety like I do myself, as it amplifies it to an unbearable level. I guess it does work as a contraceptive, but it decreased my libido so much that I didn't have sex once while I was on it. It did make my skin clear up nicely, but I'd honestly rather have a few spots over feeling awful about myself."

For Birth Control "Was fine for the first month, but started to notice my anxiety was worse, boobs grew (not completely a bad thing), gained about 10 lbs, no sex drive, and felt ill and awful about myself all the time. Do not recommend Yasmin for younger girls, especially in their late teens/early 20s. Have not felt like myself since, have found it’s made me more stressed and anxious 24/7. Took my last pill Saturday and am not taking the next pack, not worth all the side effects."

For Birth Control "I was having a horrible time on Ocella, which, contrary to what your local pharmacist will tell you, is NOT the same as Yasmin. So my doctor switched me to Yasmin, and the first month was great, no more horrible mood swings, I was almost on a euphoric high. The second month, I completely crashed. I started having hot flashes, mood swings, ovarian pain, hair loss, anxiety, and a general feeling of non-well-being. Aside from that, my period was fine, not too bad."

For Birth Control "Yasmin is the worst! I went on it to clear my acne, and it made me feel like I was going crazy. Anxiety, depression, and derealization. I constantly cried and was clingy to my loved ones. I am so angry my doctor prescribed this pill without telling me about the side effects! It was only after going on the Internet that I realized just how dangerous this pill is! Stay away from it! I stopped as soon as I made the connection that it was making me a different person. I've never felt paranoid in my life until Yasmin! It was hard coming off too, the first week was hard, the second week much better, and by the second cycle, I was finally 100%. Be aware! If you've started this pill and are feeling depressed, it's Yasmin!"

For Birth Control "I was taking LoLo, and I had almost no side effects, but since I needed more birth control and I am in a different country, I took Yasmin because they didn’t have LoLo here. It’s literally my 3rd pill on Yasmin, and these side effects are horrible! I feel so tired, I feel sick, nauseous, like I can't eat. Then the next day, super tired. I also felt my heart racing and a lot of anxiety. And lastly, my vision started getting worse. I have an astigmatism, but I feel like birth control makes it worse and also as if I am not fully able to be in the present. Just horrible. The dose on this is way too high for me. And I don’t like how there is no option for placebo pills. Even the pamphlet is not very clear on how to take the pill correctly."

For Acne "I have previously been on Yasmin for around 8 years. Before this, I was taking Dianette. Yes, the Yasmin pill was an effective treatment for controlling my acne, but I didn't realize while taking it that I was actually suffering from side effects. These included a huge appetite, constant fatigue, migraines, mild depression, anxiety, mood swings, and the rare side effect of excessive sweating. I have since come off the pill now for 4 months and all these issues have slowly resolved, although the depression and anxiety increased for 2 months after coming off. My acne has returned with vengeance at the age of 28, and my hair has thinned a lot because of all the hormonal changes. DON'T TAKE IT! YOU WILL PROBABLY REGRET IT IN THE LONG RUN!"

For Birth Control "I have tried many contraception (pills and implants) but was happy with Yasmin. Boobs grew and I felt good while taking the pill. I did have increased anxiety and depression on the 7-day break due to hormones, but I enjoyed taking this. I've had to stop due to migraines and migraines with aura."
