"As a birth control, it worked fine, however, it caused me to break out in an itchy rash around my mouth and chin. The rash got bigger over a two-month period while I was taking the pill, makeup couldn't even disguise it, and it was sometimes itchy... using ointment, but nothing worked. I stopped taking the pill a little less than 2 weeks ago while I continued using my ointments. The rash is 95% better already. As for all my other acne, the pill did clear it up, could just be an individual case. I do have sensitive skin and some discoloration."

"I LOVE Gianvi. I used this for birth control and for PMDD. I've had ZERO moodiness, very little PMS symptoms, and very light periods. I've been taking Gianvi for 4+ years and can't say enough great things about it. My local pharmacy recently switched to a different brand (same hormone combo) of this birth control, and I felt horrible: headaches, mood swings, stomach aches. Please be sure you are getting Gianvi and not a different name brand."

"I have been on this birth control for six months now. Before I started taking this, I had the worst period cramps, sometimes I would have to miss work/school because I was in so much pain. My periods were very irregular, fluctuating from 21 to 50 days. I had never taken another birth control. Pros: my periods are regular, lighter, and I experience very mild cramping. My acne has cleared for the most part. NO WEIGHT GAIN!!! Cons: I do not know if this is from the pills, but my vision has gotten significantly worse. My periods are VERY light, which makes me nervous at times. All in all, I would recommend this. I am kind of interested in switching since I never have before."

"I was prescribed Gianvi to help with my acne. I didn't notice that much of a difference in my skin, however, my mental health definitely took a big hit. I already suffer from social anxiety, but this took it far beyond that. After the first month, I noticed that anything and everything was making me cry. I would start hysterically crying, my anxiety would go through the roof, and my panic attacks increased from once in a blue moon to having one at least once a day. I felt extremely fatigued and depressed and would have episodes where I just spaced out for about two minutes... just staring at something and not even thinking about what was going on around me. Aside from my mental health, I also had severe cramping, and my period has been messed up since taking this birth control. I'm currently on my third week of bleeding and am still waiting for my period to go away."

"I was on Gianvi for about 3 years or so. At first, I really, really liked it. It was super easy to take, my skin cleared up, and my periods became sooo much easier, as well as I stopped getting cysts. However, towards the end of my taking the pill, I began to realize just how depressed it was making me. I began having suicidal thoughts, I was just in a really bad place, and then it occurred to me that it might have been the birth control affecting me, so I stopped taking it, and I have been so much happier, the depression is as if it was never there. Looking back, I miss Gianvi. It would have been perfect had it not affected my head."

"I just finished my second month of Gianvi, and it will be my last. CONS: Constant bleeding, gained weight, horrible headaches, and mood swings that make me feel crazy. PRO: No pregnancy, on-time period, went from a B to a C cup, no change in skin."

"I have been on Gianvi for three full months now. It took a while for my body to adjust to it. For the first month, I felt really nauseous, almost like morning sickness. Food didn't sound very good. I had been on Yaz in the past and really liked it. My insurance told me to try Gianvi since it was cheaper. I have to say that I could tell my body didn't like it much at the beginning. I feel like I've leveled out now. I'm glad I stuck with it, but it wasn't much fun being sick to my stomach a lot. I have a thyroid condition as well, so I can't say for sure that it was Gianvi or my thyroid issues making me tired as well. I would have stopped taking Gianvi in my third month if these issues didn't subside."

"Got on Gianvi because of my insurance, but it's definitely cleared up my acne and my boobs have gotten bigger. My period this month was only 2-3 days, and it was spotting, and I know I'm not pregnant because I'm not sexually active. However, my appetite has gone up since taking this."

"Gianvi has been a disaster. I was so excited to take it as I needed a birth control method and also have adult acne and PCOS, and it's supposed to be good for that. After the very first pill, I felt very bad, with heavy fatigue, nausea, and headaches. I thought I had a stomach bug and just needed a day to rest. Then I started having panic attacks and severe depression. I had to leave work, it was so terrible. Over the next 7 days, the nausea and headaches persisted, and I alternated between periods of panic, anxiety, severe anger, and sadness. One day I sobbed the entire day for absolutely no reason. It ruined my sex drive. I couldn't get wet enough to have sex at all. I have run 25 miles per week for two years and never missed a week, but for the 7 days I was on Yaz, I couldn't run because I was so exhausted. Even doing the dishes or taking a shower was too exhausting. My acne got a lot worse. This drug is dangerous!"

"The worst birth control I’ve ever been on. I was on it for 3 months, and the third month, I started experiencing awful anxiety and panic attacks to the point that I became very depressed. I have never experienced any of these things, so to have all three come unexpectedly was scary. I finally got off of it and feel so much better. My anxiety isn’t bad anymore and no longer experiencing panic attacks daily. The worst experience on birth control that I’ve ever had."

"I know there are a lot of bad reviews, but honestly, I don't mind this birth control. I dealt with some tender breasts and noticed I cried more frequently and felt, in general, a little more sad, but we’re also in a pandemic. I haven't noticed any other side effects, which is why I feel it should be an 8/10. I think people tend to write reviews when they have a negative experience, but people should know it’s not all bad. I have definitely noticed the effects here and there, but I overall feel good, and it doesn't really affect my life other than remembering to take it. I would recommend it. The only thing is the heightened risk for blood clots and other deadly stuff, which sucks."

"I've been on Gianvi for 7 years now. It has prevented pregnancy, which is the main point of taking it. I can't remember having any issues with nausea when I first started taking it, but I usually take it with food. My periods are normal, I wouldn't say lighter on this pill. I still get cramps and moodiness, and it definitely kills my sex drive. One odd fact about this pill is that since I've been taking this brand, I developed IBS. I've actually seen research studies that link IBS to Yaz and its generic counterparts. I'm finishing out my last pill pack of Gianvi and switching to something else to see if the IBS diminishes. I wouldn't say Gianvi has been terrible, but I think I could feel better on something else."

"I started taking birth control for the first time 4 months ago (now on my 3rd packet). I did feel a little moody and the general 'aches' as described for about a week. I have to say I honestly don't feel any different like some of the others have described. (I really think it's a psychological side effect knowing your hormones are being messed with because after initially reading them I thought I was 'depressed' and going 'crazy,' but I snapped out of it). My acne has cleared up for the most part, and I haven't gained any weight. My breast size has increased by a cup, and other than that, I feel fine. No tiredness or anything."

"I've been on Gianvi for 3 months. I feel like a crazy person. My emotions are through the roof, and I get random spurts of horrible anger and irritation. The first two months, I didn't notice much, it all came at once. My breasts are almost unbearably sore, and it has done nothing for my horrible, heavy period and painful cramps. I feel like I'm PMSing constantly. It's just not working for me. Hopefully, others have had a better experience than I. I can't wait to switch to something new."

"I have been on Gianvi for months, and it works great with breakouts, which I started getting in my late 20s. Then I picked up my prescription from my pharmacy this month, and it was Vestura. I noticed immediately because of the different packaging, but since starting Vestura this week, I've had more breakouts than I've ever had my whole life. Every time I look up info on if they are the same drug, it's confusing. It has like ten student names, including Yazmin, which I've seen for lawsuits. I also have started a different generic for my oxycodone 10/325, so if anyone had similar experiences and can lend me some help, I'm open to anything. Thanks."

"I took Yaz years ago, without issue. I don't know if it's my body aging or what, but when I started taking Gianvi (generic Yaz) 4 months ago, the depression/anxiety/anger side effect is just too much. I'm quitting. I have read that the synthetic hormone in this BC, drospirenone, can cause depression. For me, it's been dramatic. Every month, about 5 days before my period, I cry uncontrollably and get irritable and angry for no reason. I'm dead-eyed, depressed, and feel lethargic at times. Also, I have ZERO sex drive and cannot climax when I do. I am not myself, mentally or emotionally, and it's just not worth it to take this pill anymore. If you are prone to depression, do not take this."

"This pill was absolutely awful for me. Two weeks in, I started feeling more irritable and moody. I ignored it, telling myself it just was the change in the hormones of the pill. I was on it for two months total. I got depressed on it, irritable, moody, cried for no reason, and got a migraine that lasted for days. It was unbearable. I also developed a yeast infection while on it. It was a miserable two months, and I'll never go back. I'd rather take no pill than take this one."

"I'm currently on Gianvi, and let me tell you, I'm having the worst experience ever. My migraines are so bad after, it feels like my brain is about to fall out of my head. I'm constantly dizzy and always having weird chest pain. I have made the decision to get off of this pill as soon as possible and have made the decision to go with the most traditional route, condoms, even though I already have a 10-month-old. I was on the Depo shot before this, and that was a horrible experience too! I've read so many reviews on this pill, some good, some bad, some relatable. I'm constantly feeling like I'm having an anxiety attack, my hormones are out of this world."

"I was on Gianvi for about five years with minimal issues until I developed bilateral pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in my lungs). The only thing that the doctors could find as to why I developed the blood clots was my birth control pill (Gianvi). After doing some research after the fact, I discovered that the hormone used in Gianvi, drospirenone, makes you more likely to develop blood clots as compared to other birth control pills that do not have drospirenone. I would not have taken this pill had I known that I had a higher chance of developing potentially deadly blood clots."

"I first started taking birth control around age 15. When I first took Gianvi, I experienced nausea, headaches, and dizziness. I was on it for about 5 months, then I decided to stop. Around the age of 17, I decided to get back on the pill. This time, I was prescribed Lo Loestrin Fe. WORST MISTAKE EVER! So I told my doctor to switch me back to Gianvi because I was familiar with it. The second time around, I LOVED it! My periods were back to normal, no more mood swings, and my appetite was back to normal. And as for the symptoms, I just eat before I take the pill, and it makes me feel better! I would recommend this to anyone!"

"This is one of the worst birth controls I've used. Before this, I was on Loryna, and it was perfect. Even Nikki was okay, the only side effect being extreme nausea. This one doesn't give me mental issues, although I've never had a birth control that has. BUT the big negative on this is it not only kills my libido, but it also makes me dry, and for some reason I'm not able to fully stretch out when having sex and keep getting tears. It is both frustrating and painful, and my partner is extra cautious and considerate, and it's so frustrating to have this problem. I know it's this BC because I went off of it for 2 months, and sex became great again. As soon as I got back on, boom, problems came back. Never had this issue with Loryna or Nikki, and I am furious. I've been trying to get Loryna, but the pharmacy is out, and they gave me another generic instead, so I'm hoping this new one isn't as bad as Gianvi. Even though the active ingredients are the same in all these pills, the inactive ones seem to either make or break it for different women."

"This Gianvi birth control pill made me feel bad as soon as I started taking it. I gave it a full month due to thinking maybe my horrible mood was situational. I've never had depression like I did while taking this pill. I was irritable, crying, pessimistic, lethargic, and could not orgasm. The day I stopped taking it, I already started to feel like myself again. I felt like I was in a fog. I feel bad for my family who had to be around me during the month I tried this pill. I know you should typically stay on a pill for at least 3 months, but there is no way I'm taking that again!"

"I was on Yaz before and loved it. However, I started getting severe acne, a problem I haven't had in years, after switching to Gianvi. After only two months on Gianvi, my skin is a mess. Finally, made the connection and am switching back to Yaz as soon as possible."

"My experience with Gianvi was terrible. Three months of taking it, I developed a blood clot in my leg. It got so swollen, I was in so much pain, went to the ER, and they told me I had to stay for two days. Then they sent me home on blood thinners. A week later, I got another blood clot in my lungs, was in the hospital for a week. I was still on the birth control, not knowing that was the cause, and I was also on the blood thinners and still got another clot. Then I saw a specialist on blood, he told me it was the birth control and to stop taking it."

"Gianvi works great to control my periods. I used to only get a period sporadically, once every four months or so. Gianvi regulates my period so I don't have to worry about it. My breasts grew tremendously on this pill. My boyfriend obviously sees this as a pro, but some of my clothes don't look as nice with these obnoxiously large breasts. I did gain some weight, but only because this pill increased my appetite. I still work out six days a week and do not feel sluggish. Gianvi totally cleared my skin except for the occasional pimple. My sex drive is the same. Overall, I would definitely recommend Gianvi as a birth control method."
