"Regardless of all the negative reviews, I tried this birth control, and I do like it a lot. After about 3-4 packs, it cleared up my acne (I'm on the inert pills of my 5th pack now), it has relieved my menstrual cramps, helped to regulate my hormones, and is very effective as a birth control. I like pills that force me to bleed if I miss too many days, which helps to ward off sexual activity that could grant me an unwanted pregnancy. This does just that. After about two missed pills, you receive your period, and during the inert pills, you actually get a period and don't just spot. My insurance usually covers it, and it was $36 for three months, but recently it has become free of charge after my insurance coverage switched and covered contraception."

"I was on Gianvi for a month. I found myself in a spiraling depression to the point that I was crying daily. I had terrible anxiety and trouble concentrating. I couldn't focus and had trouble sleeping. I couldn't figure out why I was in such a funk until I got my period and suddenly felt better. I then googled Gianvi and discovered that this level of depression and anxiety isn't uncommon on this pill."

"I had never been on birth control before Gianvi. My boyfriend and I both wanted me to take it, and if there's anything positive I have to say about it, it is it does its job with preventing pregnancy. Other than that, I have incredible mood swings from happy to incredibly depressed. Ever since I started taking it about 5 or 6 months ago, I haven't in the slightest bit been as happy as I used to be. My personality has completely changed, I've lost weight honestly. I get mad over little things, etc. etc. I don't know. It's tearing me apart. I don't recommend it to anyone."

"I have been on Gianvi for 8 months now. At first, I was an emotional wreck, like almost all the reviews on here, but after your body gets used to the added hormone, it does go away. It took about 3 months for the acne to go away also. After about the 3-month mark, Gianvi was perfect for me. I have no bloating when my period starts, my period is perfectly on schedule, less cramping and bleeding than before, no more migraines, and no mood swings. It's almost like I'm not even on my period anymore. But, as someone said before, you have to try it to know if it'll work for you."

"I was on Ortho Tri for 4 years but was starting to have some breakthrough bleeding issues with it, so my doctor put me on Yaz. I'm a broke graduate student, so I went on Gianvi instead. I keep seeing all these negative reviews on here about it, but I LOVE Gianvi. My acne has almost gone away, and my cramps have lessened. I did, however, have some issues adjusting to a 4-day period instead of a week-long one, but after a few months, that straightened out. I love Gianvi and have been on it for 6 months without issue."

"I've been on Gianvi and its counterpart Loryna for almost 5 years now, and the closest thing to a side effect that I have had is sometimes I will have some spotting on the 3rd Saturday of my pack (day 24). My period lasts 2 days at most and is super light. I have no more cramps, no more cysts, my skin is clear except for a random zit, and even having depression and anxiety, I have no psychological symptoms even without anti-depressants. I am not sure what problems everyone else has had, but they are probably sensitive to an inactive ingredient in the pill like I was with the depo shot."

"I was on this birth control for three years, and I absolutely loved it and put up with it solely because it cleared my skin up beautifully. But ladies, please please be aware that this specific birth control can increase digestive flora and give you terrible IBS symptoms. My symptoms were so bad to the point where I required surgery, and I failed to recognize that this birth control was the reason why. After this, I began to develop chronic yeast infections/irritations, making sex a nuisance and me being EXTREMELY uncomfortable. This pill may work for others just fine, but be aware that the high levels of estrogen can take a huge toll on the female body."

"I started taking Gianvi about one month ago. Prior to that, I was on Heather for 2 years. I was prescribed Heather because I was a nursing mother. I had bad breakouts with Heather and inconsistent long periods. After nursing, I wanted to switch to a more effective birth control. I was prescribed Apri and went through an emotional roller coaster. I was only on Apri for 2 weeks, and my breakouts were worse than they have ever been. After Apri, I was switched to Gianvi. Wow, what a difference. I have been on it for just shy of 1 month, and my breakouts have stopped. I have some scarring from my previous breakouts, but they are fading. I have noticed that my mood seems to be 'normal.'"

"This birth control made me feel awful! I had terrible back and abdominal pain while taking it and even for some time after it. It took my body a while to adjust and to feel normal again after taking this pill. It caused migraines, fatigue, and mood swings. I also experienced changes in my digestive system and felt bloated most of the time. I felt my personality completely change on this pill. Overall, I would not recommend anyone put this pill into their body."

"I have been on Gianvi for over a year now, and I love it. I lost some weight, but with that, my breasts also got a bit smaller. The headaches I was getting on my previous birth control are completely gone, and I get my period for 2 days, and it's extremely light, compared to my 2-week long extremely heavy period. On my previous birth control, I gained some weight, my breasts got huge, and I got terrible headaches, but none of that with Gianvi. I know a lot of people have terrible side effects, but honestly, I love Gianvi. (I was previously on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo.)"

"Have been taking this a full month now. I started because I developed hormonal acne during my period, but now I’m actually regretting starting the Gianvi!!! My skin is so bad. Actually terrible. Little tiny bumps all over my face and pus-filled pimples, cysts. You name it. Eating away at my face. It’s only been a month, so I’ll wait 2 more because I heard that can happen. If no changes, I’m off this ASAP. Otherwise, I haven’t experienced any of the mentally altering side effects, my mood is the same. No depression or panic attacks. Oh, also unsure if I’m spotting or if I got my period and it’s very light?"

"I took this birth control for about 4 months at first. I have a history of anxiety and depression, and I don’t remember having it be exacerbated when I first started, but after a couple of months on this pill, I started having extreme mood swings, irritability, crying spells, and a lower libido. I went off of it for almost 2 months and felt stable and not depressed. I recently tried to go on it again because I totally had amnesia about how horrible I felt on it towards the end, but I have felt horrible, irritable, anxious, and depressed since I started 3 weeks ago. I stopped taking it a week ago, and I feel like my body and hormones are going haywire, so I am hoping that I feel better soon. I have tried multiple oral contraception pills, and I will probably not be trying another one."

"The only reason I would rate this a 5 is because it has prevented pregnancy, but since I started Gianvi 6 months ago, I have been depressed, irritable, angry, unmotivated, and absolutely NO SEX DRIVE. This may be why this pill works so well."

"I got on Gianvi at 19 years old when my periods were irregular and I had horrible cramps, to prevent pregnancy and help my acne. It helped my acne a lot and I was excited to finally not worry about pregnancy at a young age. I was skeptical about side effects at first but waited three months before judging my experience at all to make sure I was used to it. I ended up staying on Gianvi for about 6 months. My experience was terrible. I would’ve taken acne over the effects it had on my mental health any day. I had crippling anxiety every day that I never experienced prior to. It eventually got so bad that I had panic attacks every day and cried and didn’t eat for 3 days. I ended it immediately and while I still suffer from mild anxiety, it’s a million times better than it was when I took this. Please be careful and pay attention to your body."

"I've tried several different pills and the NuvaRing. I always had terrible side effects, including bloating, mood swings, and dryness. This pill has been great. I've been on it for about eight months now. The only side effect I had was weight loss. I went from about 128 to 118 in one month."

"I took this pill for 3 years. I felt fine on it, but my triglycerides went from 120 the year prior to taking it to 226 the following year. The year after that, it was 230, and then last year it was 240. I tried to research reasons for triglycerides increasing and found that it could be birth control. I got tested this year after being off the pill for 18 months, and my triglycerides were 88. I have to say that I believe it was Gianvi. I'd keep an eye on this."

"I have been on Gianvi for 5 months. The first month, I had bad mood swings, but that went away. My period is lighter. I still have some PMS symptoms before my period. My moods have been better. The pill has cleared my skin. I have not gained any weight. I really like this birth control."

"I kept trying to figure out why I felt so much better this month and why I’ve finally been able to lose some weight and abdominal bloating. I follow a pretty healthy diet and work out hard, usually around 5 days a week and sometimes twice a day. Sadly, it never occurred to me it was my birth control! I’ve been taking Loryna for 3-4 years and will definitely NOT be taking that again. Previously, I was on Ocella and Yaz. I’ve been on Gianvi for almost a month and feel so much better. I’ve lost weight and definitely the bloat. I haven’t noticed any changes in my mood, and if anything, my sex drive is better."

"I had been taking YAZ for the past two years, and my doctor decided to put me on Gianvi. I have been taking it for the past two months, and so far, everything is fine except the fact that I now have horrible acne. I never really had acne problems before taking Gianvi. I decided to wait out this next month to see if there will be any change, if not, then I will stop using it and try something else. I will write back at the end of the month for an update."

"I've been on Gianvi for about three months now. It's been amazing for my period, which was heavy, long, and always a miserable experience. I bled for a whole month when I first started taking it, but my doctor said that was normal... so I loved what it did for my period. What I did not love is that I am so hungry all the time on this pill, and although I haven't gone too overboard with eating, I've gained 10 pounds since starting the pill. It has done nothing to help my acne, it has made me lazy, and my mood swings are out of control... I'll become a sobbing mess out of nowhere."

"My gynecologist put me on Gianvi for my skin. I was so excited to have a pill that would focus mainly on my skin problem that I have been having for years. I didn't see any difference in the change of my skin. And the worst part was my mood swings. It caused major problems with my boyfriend and me fighting all the time and him seeing the change in me. It also made me feel super depressed all the time, with headaches almost every other day. After two months on this pill, I couldn't wait to switch. Now I'm on Generess Fe and couldn't be happier. Stay away!"

"I am so glad there are other reviews here. I thought I was losing my mental health. This pill has made me an absolute crazy person. I can't tell you the effects this has had on my life and my relationships (friends, work, boyfriend). I've been extremely depressed and have had bursts of rage and/or tears. I started to realize (in the midst of an emotional breakdown) that the way I was reacting to things was not normal. I finally connected the dots and realized it was because my pill changed to Gianvi 3 weeks ago. I've been on BC for 10 years, so I don't think it was just an adjustment. Also had really bad acne, but that was the least of my worries."

"Started taking this birth control the second week in August. After a week on the pill, I suffered an intense panic attack. Something that I had never experienced before, especially since nothing in my life had changed besides the birth control. Since then, symptoms of anxiety, crying, and depression have been on and off. My period still isn’t regular. After almost two months off this medication, I am just now feeling like myself again. Everyone is different and responds to medication differently. However, I would just be aware of these symptoms just in case."

"I've been taking the Gianvi birth control pill for the past 3-4 months and have experienced more good than bad. The first couple of things I've noticed that's different are my skin and period cycle. For one thing, it did what it was supposed to do and regulated my period. I used to get my period every other month during random days. It was irritating because I never knew when it would come. For my skin, it's improved a good amount, but I'm not someone who had bad skin to begin with. I noticed I stopped getting pimples altogether, and when I do, it's rare (I promise I have a bad skin routine too, so I was surprised.) I haven't gained weight and I didn't experience any decline in my mental health. The only thing that it didn't help with was my period cramps. My OBGYN told me this was supposed to help, but my cramps are just as sore. I also noticed that my periods are longer than when I wasn't on birth control. I used to only have my period for 5 days, but now it's the full 7 days."

"The first probably 5 months of this pill was awful. My skin got worse, I spotted, and I had bad anxiety. However, it's been two years now, and I have never been happier. I haven't had a bad pimple in MONTHS, and my acne completely cleared. We stopped using condoms and have been fine, no scares. My period is only 3 days and very light, plus it starts always on the hour! It's amazing. Plus, I lost about 10 pounds from 127 to 117 at 5.4'."
