"I took 50 mg for sleep and nausea because I'm pregnant. It helped with the nausea, sleep was another story. I felt relaxed 20 minutes after the dose. Then, I got a burst of energy and had a sleepless night. It felt like I drank an energy drink."

"I bought these Unisom pills yesterday. What a big mistake! It took 10 minutes to hit me from the initial dose, then went to sleep. I had horrific nightmares on it! Woke up extremely groggy and tingly in fingers and stiff neck! I usually don’t take sleeping pills, but this one is bad! I do not recommend!"

"I have major depression, which causes insomnia. I chose to take this OTC medication to help me sleep, thinking that since the side effects were minimal, according to drugs.com, this would be better than taking a prescription sleep aid. Woe! Was I wrong! As time went on, I became perplexed: Why was I having severe difficulty urinating? It wasn’t until I started troubleshooting, looking at all of the side effects on the internet of the medications I was taking, that I discovered that Unisom SleepTabs are anticholinergics, which can cause urinary retention, and this is why they should not be taken for longer than 2 weeks. Frankly, this information should be on the warning label in clear, complete, and concise terms for those that have insomnia due to major depression. In referring to my planner notes for when to buy more, I found out I had been taking it for 8 months! Once I stopped its use, 8 more months passed before my urinating normalized."

"Used as directed to help me get to sleep, took the gel pill, made me even more awake. Tried the other Unisom with the other sleep aid medication, just made me dizzy, with dry mouth, and kept me awake. These are a joke!!!!!"

"I have had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep since I was 14. I'm 20 now. I've taken Seroquel in the past, and that helped, but once you stop taking it, you have a harder time sleeping than before. Then I found Unisom. I started off with taking 3 a night, now I'm taking 8-9 a night because I built up a tolerance for it, but it still works for me."

"I switched to this due to all the hype about how great it is for sleep. It is completely ineffective for me! Does nothing at the typical dosage. I can get it to work at larger doses, but that does not make it worthwhile. Diphenhydramine has been much more effective, I have just been taking it so long - thought it was time for a change."

"So I am 24 weeks with my 2nd baby, and my bed has become very uncomfortable. I wake up multiple times, tossing and turning. My doctor told me I can take these tablets. The only thing I would say is, if you haven't taken them before, take half a dose. I took the whole dose and went to sleep, woke up late, and ended up taking a 5-hour nap and am still tired, with a minor headache as well."

"I fall asleep naturally, then wake up after a few hours. I felt taking 1 whole Unisom would help to fall and stay asleep. I had no idea it was an antihistamine or it could affect glaucoma. While I don't have glaucoma, I do have high eye pressure when I was tested in the 19-20 range. I will stop taking it and see what happens. If I have trouble, I will try 1/2 a tablet and see how it works. I have no trouble going to the bathroom at night on this, however, when I do, I usually go right back to sleep."

"I’ve been taking Unisom Sleep Gels for 3 to 4 years every night. I was first suggested them by my OB/GYN while I was pregnant for nausea and for insomnia. I have no side effects while taking it. When I try to stop, I get serious nausea, cold sweats, and headaches, it’s like really bad."

"This is the first time I took Unisom. I'm pregnant and have been having trouble sleeping. I took it the first night and I was asleep within 30 minutes. It was the best sleep I've had in a while and woke up feeling great, but the second night taking it didn't go so well. It didn't make me drowsy one bit. I tried taking a second pill, and nothing worked. I'm not sure why it worked the first night for me but not the second."

"Meh... I work night shift and spent a good few bucks for what I assumed to be a quality sleep aid. About 10-12 o'clock, I felt horrible anxiety. I read that nervousness could be a side effect. I calmed down after my grandma rubbed my back some. I slept pretty well after that. I will try it again once more, and if it happens again, that's $10 in the trash."

"Unisom is essentially a similar active ingredient in Benadryl, just 50 mg rather than 25 mg. Works like a charm to put me to sleep. Takes about 20 minutes for the drowsiness to kick in. Wake up fine, a little sleepy, but a shower rectifies that in no time."

"I sleep great usually, but this past week, not so well. I took one Unisom gel, 50 mg, and it did nothing for me. Maybe it goes by a person’s weight, but it doesn’t say that on the bottle. A little nervous to take two."

"I took it for nausea back in 2020 and also to help me sleep. It worked great until it didn’t work at all anymore at 25 mg. I tried 50 one night and felt like I was going to pass out. Threw them away. Now having severe insomnia and desperate, been on prescription meds. I tried this again, 25 mg, and it made me feel so weird, made me not be able to feel myself breathe, and I was up for hours for most of the night until that all could calm down. I will be throwing it right in the trash. I normally cannot take antihistamines or Benadryl or anything like that because they all make me feel similar and make my heart race. But since I was okay with Unisom in 2020, I thought I’d give it another go. This really sucks. I’m exhausted."

"I took 1 50 mg tablet of Unisom; it didn't work, so I took another one. I fell asleep 4 hours later, and when I woke up, I had the worst headache of my life and a bad taste in my mouth for a whole week straight."

"I took the liquid Unisom (50mg/30ml) at 6:45 pm. Then 7:45 pm came around, so I took another dose. It is now 7:52 pm. I'm in a lot of pain and can't even go to sleep! I would NOT recommend this to anyone! I'm highly upset!"

"Do not take Unisom, NEVER! It's dangerous. Increased heartbeat. I could not move in the morning. It was so fast! I thought I'd be dead. These pills should be forbidden to sell, but for some reason, they are free to buy. I took them twice. After that, they went to garbage. Now I'm using melatonin. No problem with it, and I can use it every day. Unisom is dangerous for your health."

"Often, even taking these within 30 to 60 minutes of going to bed not only does not work, but sometimes prevents sleep all night! Very ineffective. I am disappointed with the product."
