For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I have aggressive RA and was put on doxycycline by a doctor and was supposed to take an uptake inhibitor and prednisone at the same time. After reading negative comments about prednisone, I decided to take doxycycline alone. Within 3 days, I started to get some relief, and by 6 days, it was much more. My next appointment with the doctor was at 7 days, but I was not able to get there. I split pills in half to last until the appointment. When I told the doctor I felt much better from doxycycline, he said there was no evidence suggesting it is helpful. I had already done research online and knew this was not true. I found a source that gave me doxycycline. Roadback.org suggested 3 times a week, 100 mg, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I'm still hanging in there."

For Bronchitis "Before I begin, let me tell you I have no allergies and seldom get more than a cold. Somehow, I got a bacterial sinus infection. The doctor prescribed Augmentin 875, and I had terrible reactions to that beastly drug, then the infection went to bronchitis. The doctor prescribed prednisone. That didn't clear it up. Then he prescribed the five-day Z-pack. After ten days, I still had the cough, so I called and asked for another dose, and instead he prescribed the doxycycline 100 mg, 2 a day for ten days. Yippee! I am on day six and almost completely cured, but the phlegm has been very gradually getting out of my airways. I don't care for the nausea, especially when it kicks in, but the rest is tolerable. A little food an hour beforehand helps me. I think this is a pretty good drug."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Don’t listen to the bad reviews! I’m a severe medicine-phobe and emetophobe and listened to all of the reviews at first. I was terrified to take it because I am sensitive to medicines. But when my only other option was inpatient admission for IV antibiotics, I opted to try it. It has been a week and I am still on it for a few more days, but my abscess is finally healing! I made sure to eat something with every dose, even if it was just peanut butter crackers or rice, something that would sit well in my stomach. I had some minor nausea, headache, and weakness for the first couple of days, but now I’m adjusting and having no side effects at all despite being on 100mg twice a day for ten days. I am grateful for this med! Every person is different and reacts to things differently, and more people write reviews on bad experiences over good ones, so please don’t be afraid and give it a try! I’m a highly anxious person so the good reviews helped me a lot. I hope this helps you too!"

For Acne "I started taking doxycycline after I got bad acne on my neck and back after getting B12 injections. I was taking doxycycline for 3 months. My skin definitely purged and got worse while on it, but you need to stick with it, and it gets better. I have been off it for 2 months, and my acne hasn’t come back (here’s hoping it doesn’t come back as bad as it was)! I had no side effects while taking it."

Doxycycline for Acne "I am 37. After my last child was born, I started getting these really deep, painful pimples all around my mouth and nose. According to the dermatologist, I have a type of acne that's actually some kind of hybrid between rosacea and acne. The pustules hurt so much, and they looked so gross. I was wearing a ton of makeup to hide them, but even with all the cover-up, you could still see my skin looked terrible with huge bumps and crusted over scabs from the ones I popped. I tried all sorts of OTC stuff before I finally went to the dermatologist. He put me on Doryx, and within a week, the pustules were all gone, and I have not had any new ones in the two months since I started this medication. I can't believe how quickly, and how well, it worked."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Fought off a sinus infection that went into my chest and turned into bronchitis. I absolutely hate taking antibiotics, but after a couple of months with a bad cough, which was actually starting to go away, I developed pleurisy. I had decided I would have to go see the doctor. He prescribed me this and an anti-inflammatory. It started working on the second day, and by day seven, it was gone. I did not have any side effects. I had never taken this before, so it might be why it worked so fast because I thought the pain was going to kill me."

For Lyme Disease "I've been on doxycycline for about a week now for a bout of Lyme disease, and other than some moderate to severe drowsiness (which may be - and is - part of the disease, but does get more severe when I take the antibiotic) and being absolutely unable to take it on an empty stomach (to do so results in nausea and, in the worst case, vomiting), I have to say I'm feeling much better quite quickly. If taken with food, I have no side effects whatsoever. One of the best and most mild antibiotics I've had to take."

For Bacterial Infection "I experienced horrible side effects, including headaches, swelling and tightness in face, swollen and sore throat, dizziness and lightheadedness, body aches, thirst, racing heart, insomnia, shallow breathing. It almost felt like flu symptoms. Symptoms went away 12 hours after I stopped taking it, but headache is lingering still. I never want to experience that again. Absolutely horrible."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I love this antibiotic, it helps my UTI brilliantly. I have suffered with UTI infections for over 60 years, yes, 60 years, and have had every antibiotic going in that time. But remember, you must take it on a full stomach if you experience side effects that affect your stomach."

For Bacterial Infection "This medicine gave me a terrible-and I mean terrible-headache. A lot of pressure in the head and nausea when taking it, even though it says on the bottle, 'you can take with or without food.' I stopped after two days. Also, if you look up doxycycline, this made a girl go blind from intracranial pressure. Never again, and a warning to people because I care."

For Bacterial Infection "I have had a sinus infection for 3 years now, plus upper respiratory infection and ear infections during the really bad times. I was cultured with Staph A. and Pseudomonas that was resistant to a lot of the antibiotics except doxycycline and Augmentin but I'm allergic to penicillin, so doxycycline it is. 100mg 2x a day and the first few days are hard because everything is dying and my sinuses are draining like crazy, but it's the only thing that's working. Don't lay down for an hour after taking the pill, it did burn my throat horribly, but I have not had any other side effects from it except the sun sensitivity. I think this is a small price to pay to feel better and get my life back, especially since the chronic fatigue from the constant infection is severe."

For Chlamydia Infection "Listen. I’m here to solve everyone’s questions, wonders, and everything. I’m an average person that does what every male does. Mess around! Ended up catching chlamydia from someone, knew who it was, and I’ve learned my lesson. Before taking this medicine, understand that EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. I saw people say symptoms stopped in 3 days, 4 days, even 2 days, well, that wasn’t the case for me. It took me taking the full dosage for the full 7 days for the symptoms to actually fade and go away. I was just like a few others, had minor symptoms before taking them, when I started, symptoms came flying out of nowhere. Don’t be scared! It’ll get worse before it gets better. Take your full dosage, eat before you take it, and I promise you, you’ll be fine. Hope this helped everyone out. Be safe, wear condoms!"

Doxycycline for Rosacea "This medication combined with Finacea cream saved my skin! I was having terrible localized breakouts that would leave bad scars. Once I started religiously using Oracea and Finacea (to help with redness), my skin looks amazing. I rarely need to wear makeup now. The only downside is it makes my lips sensitive. They tend to look swollen - which is not such a bad thing. I would recommend this to anyone dealing with Rosacea."

For Bacterial Infection "I had an ear infection and was prescribed this medication, doxycycline. The first day was fine, but then I developed severe pressure in my head to the point where I had to switch medications. I would NOT recommend this drug and a warning to people: this medication can cause high blood pressure in the brain. Terrible drug. Terrible. Hence the score of a 1. I would have rated it a zero. I know if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all, but this is a warning for people that this can happen and I wouldn't want anyone to go through this."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I'm a smoker (20 a day roughly) got given 100mg to be taken twice on the first day and one every other day on a seven-day course. I was actually originally given this for an STI, not a chest infection that I didn't really notice I had. However, the second day of taking, I thought I was almost dying with flu symptoms and a terrible cough, but I stuck at it with plenty of good food and water. The second night when the coughing was worst, I got hardly any sleep, shivered, sweated, and had loads of blankets on, etc. The third day, the coughing was still there but not even half as bad, and it just got better day by day. It cleared my lungs, and I can breathe amazingly now. The STI is gone. It did make my gums a bit sour and I felt a slight burning sensation in the lungs."

For Acne "I would just like to say thank you to Doxycycline for saving my life. I have extreme depression and anxiety, and that was only made worse by my acne, which covered almost all of my face and was spreading fast. I tried every over-the-counter medication, every face wash, and even attempted laser therapy. I almost took Accutane, but heard the terrible stories online about how bad the side effects were and more. Even my doctor tried to convince me to take Accutane, but I'm here to say if you have horrible, red, blotchy acne that is very congested, please try Doxycycline. It took 3-4 months, and when I look in the mirror now, I actually kind of want to cry because of how much it helped me. Doxycycline + Spectro Blemish Cleanser & Moisturizer saved my life."

For Lyme Disease "I’m 22, and in mid-August, I started feeling fatigued and lightheaded out of nowhere. It lasted for days and just wasn’t getting any better. I’d feel it from the second I woke up to when I went back to sleep at night. Just felt overall drained and sort of a brain fog. I had been hiking a lot in the summer too due to COVID. After telling my mom (who has Lyme disease) my symptoms, she suggested getting regular bloodwork done, but also a blood test for Lyme. Thank goodness she suggested that Lyme test because otherwise, I wouldn’t have known I had it, and it’s key to catch Lyme early. Tested positive for a recent infection and got put on doxycycline - 2 pills a day for 3 weeks. It took time, but very slowly, I started to feel better. Now it’s been 3 months since I took doxy and I don’t really have those daily symptoms of fatigue and lightheadedness anymore. I recommend eating a granola bar when taking it in the morning because it did make me feel sick on an empty stomach."

For Bacterial Infection "I told the P.A. that I was on my last pill for Zithromax. She told me that I need to stop taking it and start taking this poisonous ATB (doxycycline). After the first pill, I started experiencing diarrhea, the second time, it got worse that I had to go to the bathroom every 15 mins during the night. I was physically and mentally drained the next day, but forced myself to work. To make matters worse, my respiratory infection exacerbated and developed a hoarse voice. It has been 3 days since I took the 2nd pill and I'm still going to the bathroom every 20 mins. Yesterday I took Lomotil to control the urge for when I was at work. I ate lots of bananas, white rice, etc., but to no avail. Now my anus is so irritated. Whoever prescribed this for bacterial infection should be told they have violated their oath of 'DO NO HARM!'"

I don't recall having any side effects, but you must take it as directed - with food and a large glass of water, and keep out of sunlight, etc."

For Pneumonia "Thought I had a bad cold with cough and shortness of breath. After about 7 days, when I got the pain going clear through the lung (front to back), I knew it was pneumonia (had it before). Started doxy 2 x a day, also using a nebulizer with albuterol solution 3 x a day and an emergency albuterol inhaler for nighttime breathing help. Better on day 3 but no further improvement until I began doxy 3 x a day. Always eat 30 minutes before taking doxy or you will have stomach issues. Drink a bottle of water every two hours to help flush the crud out of your system. You will be tired for 8-10 days after stopping doxy, but it has done its job."

For Acne "I have been taking the doxycycline for about 1 week now consistently, and I have seen tremendous change. One thing about this medication is that you must have patience. It will get worse before it gets better! In addition to taking the doxycycline, I also used adapalene to control the breakouts that the doxycycline pushes out. This is coming from someone who has dealt with acne for years and has never found anything that works."

For Bacterial Infection "I started taking doxycycline for sinus infections because of other drug allergies, such as penicillin, sulfa, and Cipro. I take it between breakfast and lunch and then between lunch and supper. I sit up after taking it and have no problems with this drug. Thank God I have something to take, and my head feels better after the first dose. Hopefully, I will not develop any allergies to this. I have taken this three times, 10 days at a time, now over the last three years with no problems."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was on a dose of 200 mg a day of doxycycline for two months, 100 mg/day for one month, and now on 40 mg/day for another month for a bad case of perioral dermatitis (40-year-old female). Tried elimination diet, herbs, and everything - and it didn’t work, but this (with some creams, elimination diet like 80% of the time, and tons of emotional processing) cleared my skin up!! I am totally sun sensitive, so I try to stay inside (yay quarantine). I take it with a FULL stomach, and I have no side effects. Also, I take the BEST probiotic from the vitamin shoppe. The doctor is weaning me off gradually to avoid rebound... Wish everyone the best!!!"
