"This medication has been beneficial in treating my anxiety, depression, migraines, sleep, mood, and allergies. I have not tolerated SSRIs, SNRIs, and benzodiazepines in the past, and have found them addictive even when prescribed and taken as directed. Currently, I take this medication with gabapentin for cyclothymic disorder and anxiety. I am very happy with the results. Doxepin can increase your appetite and make you a little impulsive, be aware of your food intake. I have had no side effects like brain fog or issues with memory. Highly effective for those who can’t tolerate other antidepressants."

"I started doxepin for GAD eight weeks ago, started on 50 mg, and it took away all anxiety, and I felt like the old me. Now, the last two days I have all the bad thoughts and anxiety again. Going to try to go up in dosage, praying this helps..."

"I've been on Sinequan for 26 years. I take 50 mg in the morning, plus 1 1/2 Xanax. In the afternoon, I take the same. At night, I take 3 Sinequan (50 mg each), plus 2 Xanax and 2 Imovane 7.5 mg to help me sleep. I wake normally (no side effects whatsoever). I can't live without them. I highly recommend Sinequan. It is the best antidepressant !!!!"

"I have been on doxepin and Xanax for 28 years. I take 150 mg doxepin at night and 1 mg Xanax at night. My doctor has me taking no more than five Xanax a day. I am starting to get more and more panic attacks during the day, but I don't want to take more than 4 of the Xanax."

"I took this for anxiety and slept great, but the next day I kept having blood pressure drops and passed out while driving and had to call into work for the next two days to recover. I was passing out from blood pressure drops over and over and having random anxiety attacks over and over for 24 hours. It was so, so, so horrible. I've never had blood pressure issues or passed out or anxiety to that level until I took this."

"Before, I was taking amitriptyline for depression/anxiety, and it worked in just 2 weeks. I was completely depression/anxiety-free for the first time in 7 years. I didn't want to stop taking amitriptyline as it worked WAY better than the countless SSRIs I tried in the past, but sadly, amitriptyline raised my resting heart rate way too high (a common side effect of amitriptyline). So I switched to doxepin, which I hoped would be similar to amitriptyline, as doxepin is also an older TCA type of antidepressant, but doxepin for me was a disaster. It gave me really bad nightmares and extreme vivid dreams. It also caused me to have a headache almost all the time I was taking it. It also caused a heavy sedation feeling when taking each tablet (I took 50 mg each night), and all that aside, it didn't work well enough on my depression/anxiety. I have switched to citalopram now, and those side effects have gone, and I'm doing okay, so will stick with citalopram. Doxepin suits some people, so good luck if you try it."

"I started 10 mg about 3 weeks ago for anxiety. It works but makes me extremely tired! I have two little ones at home and can't function well on it. I suggest taking it at home first to see how you feel. I don't drive when I take it, especially with my children."

"Prescribed doxepin 25 mg for anxiety, and I was afraid to take the whole dose. I’ve divided it into 1/2, 2/3, and into 1/4. The 1/4 didn’t make me feel hungover or very tired the next day, but the other doses did. I’m glad I didn’t try the full dose. I do sleep better and don’t have the hangover, dizziness, or feel tired. The lower dose just takes the edge off my anxiety. I’ll give it another week, then decide if it’s for me."

"A dermatologist put me on Doxepin because she thought my skin problems might be caused by anxiety. I took it at night; when I got up in the morning, I was so dizzy I had to hold on to walls and furniture to keep from falling! I felt kind of drunk all day; not good for people who have a job and/or other responsibilities. Oh well, my dermatological problems weren't caused by anxiety anyway. I gave this drug a 3 rating because it seems like it would be effective as a sleep aid and to reduce anxiety."

"Today is day one. Took my first dose of Doxepin 25 mg last night. Woke up feeling very, very depressed and VERY angry. I am ready to punch someone in the face, and I haven’t even left my house yet today. I was just taking this for insomnia, but I am stopping this medication and calling my doctor because I can’t be cursing people out, or punching them, or being angry for no reason. I screamed at and hung up on my boyfriend about an hour ago when he didn’t even do anything at all except interrupt me to remind me of something. Thank goodness he is understanding about what is going on and isn’t upset. Not to mention my thoughts are clustered, and I only slept for 4 hours last night. So no, this stuff did not help me at all. It really messed me up. I’d rate this medication a NEGATIVE 10 if that were possible, but unfortunately this website makes me choose between 1 and 10 only, so I was forced to choose 1."

"I took doxepin for 2.5 weeks, and it’s the worst drug. Why do they give this to people? I went from being a stay-at-home mom to a criminal. I have just crazy, outrageous anger, which led me to get charges. Now, I have never in the 32 years I’ve been on earth been in trouble with the law until I started this medication. My doctor did not want me on this, but my insurance kept making me take all these others before I could have what the doctor wants for me, and the first pill I forget the name caused my heart to start beating fast like I was having a heart attack, and then next was doxepin. I just find it crazy that I start this pill and I get in trouble. I’m a single stay-at-home mom who has 2 disabled kids. I have no life. I don’t drink or do drugs, and I don’t ever act like I did that day. I know these pills caused me to go crazy that day, and now I have the possibilities of some jail time. Why would they give this to someone? This is a horrible, horrible pill."

"Doxepin is being discontinued. No new patients will be prescribed doxepin. I have been taking doxepin for 27 years for anxiety and depression. Has anybody found a good alternative? I am currently trying to reduce doxepin and I am trying mirtazapine, but this is not working. Please share your experiences in finding an alternative."

"Honestly, a very good drug for anxiety and depression symptoms. The worst side effect is the weight gain. But in the end, for me personally, I would prefer relief from anxiety."

"Yes, Doxepin mixed with Xanax is a nightmare. Too many adverse reactions... increased anxiety, severe agitation, and frustration. It's like nothing can go quick enough for you."

Doxepin "Sinequan didn't help my anxiety at all. I had a horrible experience with it in general on 25 mg, I believe tightness in my chest, and I got lightheaded. Don't take this med."

"25 mg 3x a day as needed. Takes the edge off of acute anxiety, but only modestly reduces the constant background anxiety 'buzzing.'"
