Focalin XR (dexmethylphenidate) "My son, age 9, was recently diagnosed with Central Auditory Processing Disorder. CAPD has a lot of the same 'symptoms' as Inattentive ADHD. After struggling with the best way to help my son and meeting with his pediatrician, we decided to give Focalin XR a try. We have seen amazing, wonderful progress. My son feels/is successful at school, he's able to focus, gets his work done, etc, all with very minimal side effects. We couldn't be happier! I realize medicines are not for everyone and many, like me, are hesitant to even try them. But I am here to tell you that it has made a very big difference for my son."

Focalin XR (dexmethylphenidate) "My son is 9 and was diagnosed with a central auditory processing disorder. He is/was also showing symptoms of ADHD. In trouble in school, refusing to do his work, he was even switched to an emotional support classroom, and after all the tests, we found out that his brain couldn't process what he was hearing, which caused the ADHD like symptoms. We were offered to try Focalin XR...started on 5 mg but just switched to 10mg because my son said it wasn't making much of a difference. He eats well, even on the medication, and has been coming home with almost perfect daily behavior charts at school. This medicine is definitely working out good for us. Side effects are very minimal. My son takes 1mg of melatonin at night for sleep."

Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) "I'm a 16 year old female and, I started taking Focalin three days ago, only 2.5. I take it at 7:15 am I notice when it wears of about three hours later. I don't really have trouble falling asleep but I do kind of have trouble staying asleep. All day I have a sore throat and a runny nose, even once I've already felt it wear off. When I stand up I get dizzy and have to stop and hold on to something to keep from falling. I've also experienced high blood pressure from it and headaches that make my eyes water. When I look at a computer or T.V my eyes feel like I'm about to fall asleep but I can't close them except to blink."

Focalin XR (dexmethylphenidate) "Helps tremendously to focus and stay focused to get something finished vs 10 things started and nothing finished! There is a correlation between auditory processing disorder and ADHD/ADD. Many of us with ADHD/ADD have hearing issues, and "Intelligibility" is a HUGE issue when trying to learn. Unfortunately, the so-called 'hearing tests' provided by schools are directed at deafness, not Intelligibility - if a student is unable to hear/understand words, than how much education "can/do" they actually receive? Focalin has helped me with both, but I also required hearing aids - which wasn't done until I was 28 yrs old and "demanded" a full hearing test WITH a simple back-to-back repeating of similar sounding words, I only got 60% right. "Omg. It worked great until I had horrible side effects... it looked like I had Tourette's.. scared me so bad. My Dr said I can never take it again. That side effect could've stayed like that the rest of my life. I couldnt control my arms or legs. Weird sounds were coming from deep down in my diafram... I didnt think it was ever going to stop.. The DR tried 3 different meds to make it stop.. every muscle in my body was sore for days. Said it was a rare side effect... be careful everyone"
