For Anorexia "Was on the drug last May, and in 3 weeks I gained 30 pounds. I stopped because I was comfortable with the weight I had gained and have been off since June and have maintained my weight over the past 3 months. Was drowsy the first 3 days, but it went away. Would recommend to anyone trying to gain weight, but I wouldn’t recommend it long term."

For Migraine "I just got out of the hospital 5 days ago! I had a migraine sitting there 5-6 days straight, ended up going into the hospital, and the doc put me on these. I'm on my first week! Wow, they make you so sleepy .... I've struggled to do much! I hope the sleepiness wears off in 2 weeks. I am a naturally very fit person! These headaches pushed me back, first time having these ongoing headaches! Would love to know how people got through this tiredness, I need a few tips! Just started."

For Anorexia "Started taking 2 pills a day. I'm 6'4" and only 110 pounds. Took this for 2 months, and the only thing that happened was me falling asleep constantly during class. Hurt my grades and did absolutely nothing to my appetite."

"I've had severe IBS since middle school and had to drop out due to daily debilitating pain. My doctor prescribed this cyproheptadine, saying there wasn't much he could do and I was probably out of luck. At first, I was so tired that I almost fell asleep while walking, really dry mouth, artificial feeling high mood, and ravenous all the time. After about 6 weeks, I had breakfast for the first time since I was very little, and I could eat carbs without being in pain for hours. The sleepiness was way less pronounced, and a year on, I just get a little sleepier than everyone else, dry mouth went away, still hungrier but not ravenous, and a lot less depressed (but that could be from IBS being fixed). Honestly, I never thought in a million years I'd be free of my IBS, but it seems like as long as I don't forget my 4 mg 3 times a day, I'm just like a perfectly normal, healthy person. It's like a dream come true. Though now, I don't dream at night, and my memory seems bad, but I'd say it's still worth it in my case."

For Migraine "Was prescribed this medicine because it's supposed to be safe in pregnancy. At first, it dulled the pain of my intractable migraine to a 2-3. It caused extreme sleepiness, and then it stopped working after about 5 days. Disappointing."

For Anorexia "I eventually thought my weight problems were over. I was high as a kite and couldn't wait to start taking them after reading all the positives about them. Alas, it was the most disappointing thing that's happened to me. They did nothing for me, not even the sleepiness occurred that people posted about. I just decided to be determined and eat as much as I could, but as much as I eat, I'm still stuck on 8 stone, 4 stone less than my norm. I can only assume it is other meds I'm on that are blocking them from working. So despondent."

For Allergic Reactions "I started taking Periactin in August 2020 for two reasons: allergies and weight gain. My starting weight was 115 lbs. In the beginning, I was taking 1 pill daily at bedtime on weekdays and 2 pills daily on weekends. I don’t remember if it made me eat more, but it made me crave sweets. The drowsiness came in too, but wore off after a few days. I gained about 4-5 lbs in the first month and another 5 lbs in the next two months. My cravings for sweets stopped after about 2 months. I was taking Periactin inconsistently, and I was also a slow gainer. By March of the following year, I maxed out at 129 lbs. I gained weight everywhere, but I was unhappy with how much bigger my face and stomach were getting. I was seeing a double chin and didn’t like what I saw. But I was still getting teased by people for being too thin, to their standard. So I lost 5 lbs and now I am back to 124 lbs. I have been maintaining my weight by taking a pill a day at bedtime."

Cyproheptadine for Allergic Reactions "I used Periactin for approximately 6 months to relieve an allergic reaction, and it worked extremely well. It did make me drowsy, though, therefore, I halved the dose I was recommended."
