"I have been taking it for twenty years with no known side effects. On days I forget to take it, I experience anxiety and then realize I forgot to take it. My doctor wants to wean me off it by taking half the dosage, but I'm not comfortable with that idea."

"I was first prescribed Tranxene when my 46-year-old son was just 2 years old. I was taken to the emergency room thinking I was having a heart attack. It turned out to be an anxiety attack that had come up out of nowhere. At that time, my cardiologist prescribed it to me for anxiety. I have always only taken it as needed. One 7.5 mg pill when I feel an attack coming on. A few years after I began taking Tranxene, another doctor put me on Xanax, saying it was much better than Tranxene, but I would have to take it every day. It was a complete nightmare. It made my anxiety worse. He kept upping my dosage until, at just over two weeks into taking it with no relief from anxiety attacks, I felt I was becoming addicted. I dumped Xanax to go back to the Tranxene as needed. But first, getting off the Xanax was awful! After only a couple weeks being on it, I had awful withdrawals. Since then, to this day, I only take Tranxene as needed. It WORKS! And now, my attacks are few and far between!"

"I got a prescription for this after reading reviews. I had tried both alprazolam and lorazepam and found them to be very effective (and preferable) for anxiety... but not so for sleep (yes, I know this is not a typical sleep aid drug). This drug is very effective for sleep, so effective you need to be careful with the dosage. My prescription is for 15 mg, and I took half a tablet, and it was very effective (male, 190 lb). I had an excellent night of sleep but was still a little groggy the next morning... so I will reduce the dose to half of the 7.5 mg. No other side effects. I think all benzos are to be used with caution for dependency, though my MD claims a low dose daily will not be problematic. I will be skipping days anyway, out of an abundance of caution... though I am very pleased with this drug!"

Clorazepate "Worked great on my anxiety. I had to stop taking Tranxene because my insurance ended. Will start back February 1st. I already have an appointment set up. It calms you naturally and stays in your system longer."

"General Anxiety Disorder is a chronic disorder. The appropriate treatment for life is Tranxene. I take 15 mg QID daily, even at age 64. Anything less does not work. Maintenance dose, even for the elderly. I do experience sleepiness."

"My doctor prescribed this because of severe dizziness that other medications did not help. It knocked it out within 3 days, so I am very pleased. One thing about it for me was I could not stay awake after I took it, knocked me right out."

"Four years ago, I started clorazepate 3.75 at night to help with a burning tongue and panic attacks. My doctor said the burning tongue was from an overactive nerve and allergies I didn’t know I had to mint. Within three months, the burning was gone, and I didn’t have any more panic attacks. About three months ago, my pharmacist started using a different manufacturer, and at first, I felt great... no problems. Then about a week ago (three months later), I started having very vivid dreams. Nothing that would cause me harm... just nightmares or very realistic dreams, which I didn’t have before. I’m wondering if it started due to a change of manufacturing pharma. I still feel good, no panic attacks... but I don’t like that these dreams have started, and I’m wondering if they will go away once I get used to these pills from this manufacturer or if I should try to find another pharmacy that carries the other manufacturer pill?"

"This anti-anxiety drug is a lifesaver. It was first prescribed to me over 50 years ago when (Tranxene) was brand new and I had just tried to commit suicide, working three jobs to support myself and two little boys, getting no sleep and anxiety was more than I could bear. It goes to work quickly, you stop crying or wanting to bite someone’s head off and get back to work. It has zero side effects for me and has saved my sanity under terrible duress. I like that you can just take it as needed and when you’re over the hump, you can stop. Although I have used it off and on for 50 years, never more than prescribed and only as needed, it is now treated as an addictive, controlled substance that can cause suicidal thoughts."

"I take 5 mg for generalized anxiety disorder on an as-needed basis. It makes me sleepy, and it doesn't help with the anxiety as I want it to. It is perfect for insomnia, but for anxiety, it doesn't do much for me."

"My anxiety manifests itself in the form of severe chest pains. I have never had nervousness, felt stressed, or had any of the characteristics usually associated with anxiety. About 30 years ago, my doctor switched me from another med to clorazepate. It has allowed me to live a normal life, which included testifying before governmental agencies, teaching extensively in certain areas of economics, and facilitating conferences all over the U.S. My normal dose is 15 mg twice a day and a third 15 mg if needed. I am now 79 and in the process of weaning myself under the direction of a new doctor. It is difficult as the pains return quickly, but I am making good progress. I have NEVER experienced any of the side effects supposedly associated with the drug. I am, for all practical purposes, a non-drinker and avoid caffeine. The biggest problem for me is pharmacists that run interference between my doctor and me. They consistently advise that I am overmedicated."

"I have taken this drug clorazepate for at least 7 years. Over time, I did need to take a higher dose for it to keep working. Starting at 15 mg up to 60 mg, half as soon as I get up and the other early afternoon. In the last 6 months, I’ve been able to drop to 30 mg, and it works wonders. I had sporadic anxiety, mostly social anxiety and physical symptoms, mostly of sweating and tension. With this drug, all gone. What it doesn’t do for me is help with sleep, but I’ll take anxiety relief anyway. I could not function without it."

"It is better than nothing. But Xanax works much better. My previous doctor in another city prescribed Xanax. I took it as needed for about 20 years. It kicked in almost immediately, so I only took it when a bad situation occurred. I never became dependent or addicted. My current doctor (different location) refuses to prescribe Xanax and will only let me have Tranxene. Since it doesn't kick in quickly, I have to take it in anticipation of the occurrence of a bad situation. So I take it every day, first thing when I get up, so it will be in my system by the time I get to work. So I take more of it, and it works less well than Xanax. More doctors need to know that Xanax is not really addictive, and it works far better than Tranxene."
