For Bone infection "Often prescribed for patients with penicillin allergy with tooth and jaw infection. I found that the stomach pain makes me not want to take it. I find that eating half your meal, taking the pill, then finishing your food somehow helps reduce the pain and nausea. It also helps cut down on the metallic acid taste in your mouth. Drink a DanActive with each pill, no matter what. Also...most important...get a script for Zofran, which is an anti-emetic or anti-nausea pill. Helps tremendously. I take less than prescribed because I weigh less, and it's much easier on the gut and still very effective. I'm not advising you to decrease doses unless you understand what you're doing. Can cause more harm that's not worth the reduction in side effects."

For Bacterial Infection "I started taking clindamycin about an hour ago for a bacterial infection (upper respiratory/sinus infection). Within only several minutes, my esophagus started burning, and I feel like throwing up. I have only had one dose of 300 mg. I was started on clindamycin because I had bad side effects (numbness and tingling in my hands) from another antibiotic (clarithromycin). Clarithromycin really helped treat the infection, but I stopped it after three days. I'm allergic to penicillin, so that makes things harder. My doctor warned me about the harshness of clindamycin, but I thought that I'd rather have some GI issues than neuropathy as a side effect - which is still true, but I can't imagine taking even another dose as I feel so sick."

For Bacterial Infection "Took this medicine for a tooth infection. I got this prescribed by my dentist finally, and admittedly it did get rid of the tooth infection, but it caused way more problems. I ended up with my jaw, lymph node, and cheek getting incredibly swollen even though the infection had left. Which made me confused, painkiller didn't really help the swelling. While taking it, not only did I have this nausea, dizziness, heartburn, sore throat, chest pain, stiff neck, pain in my shoulders (after 2 days in), diarrhea (after 5 days in), swelling, which I later discovered is/was caused by this antibiotic. After stopping it 2 days ago, it also gave me a white tongue. I have little bumps/sores on the inside of my mouth on my upper lip, dry mouth, my mouth is really scaly feeling inside, and the corner of my mouth on the left side is numb in feeling/tingly still. So, please, don't take this under any circumstance other than if you're dying or it's literally your only choice. I had 150mg, 2 a day as written."

For Bacterial Infection "Was put on clindamycin 300 mg pills, and my dose is two pills four times a day for a bad tooth infection. After ten doses, nothing has changed. Still a lot of pain and swelling. Went to the ER for extreme pain and nausea. He changed my prescription to Augmentin. Overnight, I was much better. Clindamycin didn't work."

For Bacterial Infection "Only take med if must! Bad side effects, but it cures you. I had pain in the vaginal area and I healed within a few hours of itchy and burning, however, the worst nausea and pain everywhere, weakness bad! I have a movie tonight and I'm not going to not go! Oh, p.s. it causes a horrid taste in your mouth and dry mouth!"

For Intraabdominal Infection "I started triple therapy of clindamycin, amoxicillin, and a PPI 3 days ago for H. pylori infection. I've been on a PPI and amoxicillin before with no side effects, but not clindamycin. It's a big dose: 500 mg twice a day for 7 days. The first 3 doses were awful. Disgusting taste in my mouth and terrible nausea with a gnawing, rumbly feeling in my stomach. After I read some advice on this page, I tried drinking more water: half a pint before the dose, then after. Plus a daily probiotic drink. I also didn't lie flat after dosage for an hour. This has made a huge difference. Still a bit of a taste, but no nausea and a better sleep. Still 4 days to go, but fingers crossed as the H. pylori had been causing pain. Definitely good advice."

For Bacterial Infection "I had a Staphylococcus aureus infection. I had to take it 4 times a day for 10 days, I do recommend a probiotic. I had chapped lips and drainage of the scalp from the staph infection, however, after the 2nd day, oozing did stop. After day 4, chapped lips went away. I did experience a heat rash and some intense cramps and bloating, but my skin did clear up really well, all my acne cleared. I did experience some nausea and diarrhea. Overall, it took care of the problem for the time being, but I finished my treatment last week and my chapped lips are back."

For Bacterial Infection "On Clindamycin IV in the hospital, being treated for possible infection post wisdom tooth removal (horror pain) and as well as making me nauseous at night and giving me a terrible metallic taste in my mouth, it hasn't stopped me from getting a sinus infection while on it as well. I was sent home from the hospital on the oral version, 2 tabs 3 x day, and feel more nauseous, needing anti-nausea meds and have weird stomach bloating, weirder stomach 'lurches' like the muscles are contracting randomly, fatigue, etc. I react to most AB, though... my stomach doesn't get along with all of them."

"I had 2 MRSA abscesses on my butt cheeks about 3 weeks ago (one was twice the size of a bar of soap). At first, he tried doxycycline and Bactrim, but they did nothing. He switched me to clindamycin and said that if it didn't start shrinking, I would have to have surgery and IV vancomycin. Within 3 days, 'bumpzilla' started shrinking, and 2 weeks later it was gone. This clindamycin is very powerful, but it gives me occasional diarrhea and constant severe nausea. They say not to lay down after taking it, but my abscess was so large I had to lay down; I never got any heartburn. This clindamycin is very powerful, and for MRSA, it is usually the last option before hospitalization. It worked quickly and was very effective."

For Bacterial Infection "I feel taking this medication was a trade-off. I exchanged pain reaching from my lymph node to the top of my head for frequent bowel movements, nausea, severe sleepiness, irritability, weakness, headaches, and loss of appetite. The first two days, everything was going okay, and the initial pain I went to the ER for had subsided. On day three, the side effects started kicking in. I don't think I have C. diff based on the symptoms, but the side effects have me feeling totally out of it, almost comparable to a dream state. It seems to be doing its job, but with other problems arising."

For Surgical Prophylaxis "Was prescribed this twice for prevention after the extraction of 4 wisdom teeth (2 in June and 2 in August of the same year). I had to take 4 capsules of 300 mg per day, every 6 hours. I didn't get some of the severe side effects most comments here are describing, but I did have diarrhea for a few days while on it (both times). I also makes me super tired, and it doesn't help that I can't drink coffee while on it. My stomach 'feels upset,' but I'm not in pain. It just rumbles, and I think it makes me nauseous at times. All in all, it's what I expected from antibiotics in general - I will incorporate some Greek yogurt into my diet to try and give my guts a break. It does taste absolutely horrible and leaves an extremely bitter taste in my mouth."

For Bacterial Infection "I'm taking this medication to get rid of some vaginal bacteria. The first day I took it, I was experiencing extreme nausea and watery stools. However, I did see improvement in vaginal discharge on the first day! So overall, not so bad. Just make sure you drink a lot of water and take some Pepto."

"Just an FYI to all on this medication. Diarrhea is the way your body gets rid of toxins. That is how you know your antibiotic is working. The side effects of nausea and heartburn can be manageable. But diarrhea is actually a good sign that the end is near and you will be feeling better. If it gets to be too much and you are dehydrated, then you should think about stopping the medication. I would recommend this medication to help with all indicated infections."

For Bacterial Infection "Went to the dentist after dealing with a constant sharp pain in my head and neck after wisdom tooth removal (upper right molar). I was placed on Clindamycin (300 mg) three times a day for seven days. I was also given a prescription of prednisone (40 mg) to help alleviate the swelling, as well as a following prescription of another round of Clindamycin (150 mg) for seven days. The first round presented no side effects, besides an upset stomach. However, the second round, I was extremely dizzy, feverish, nauseous, and had heart palpitations to the point I considered the ER. I stopped taking soon after, and nearly all of my symptoms have vanished; I'm not sure if there was even an infection to begin with, but while it did help, the cons of this medication overruled the pros. I am 3 days post-med, and I still don't feel like myself. (I feel sluggish, my joints ache, and my head feels foggy). Unless absolutely needed, I would look for an alternative."

For Bacterial Infection "My ENT physician has put me on this antibiotic for infectious mononucleosis (mono or glandular fever). At first, I thought that I was just going to die. On top of the mono symptoms, the Cleocin made me nauseous, my stomach swelled. The doctor suggested taking the medication with a bit of soft drink, and it did work. After 7 days of this, I would do it again. I have had mono twice before, and no, not from kissing. I have a low immune system, I wish I had this with the other bouts of illness."

For Bacterial Infection "Feel so light-headed, drained, and dehydrated after taking 1 pill (several hours after taking the pill). I'm supposed to take another tonight (I'm prescribed 300 mg every 12 hours, so that's 2 a day), but after feeling like this, I'm not sure if I'm going to take another one. I'm on these because penicillin wasn't doing anything for my tooth abscess. I took it with food and plenty of water, and asked beforehand if it was safe to take with my blood pressure meds, and they said it was fine, so I don't know...."

For Bacterial Infection "I had 4 days of IV clinda in the hospital, and it did help my infection improve, however, it caused me to vomit nonstop for 3 days and I couldn't keep any food down at all, not even liquids, so I had to have IV glucose and salts. I got switched to Augmentin, which I have come home on, but since the last 2 days of the clinda, I have had diarrhea very badly with stomach pain and continued nausea. I also developed a rash over my chest, neck, and face for a day, which subsided after the last dose. Overall, this drug works but has some pretty uncomfortable side effects."

For Bacterial Infection "This stuff is horrible. Took it one day for my tooth infection and immediately felt worse than I did before. I woke up the following day feeling like I was drunk. It had made me so sick to my stomach, and I was seeing double. The worst part is the constant sensation like you have a fire in your stomach. I don't know who made this medication, but I really think it should be taken off the market. Seems to be doing more harm than healing. How am I supposed to take something that's hard to keep down? Thanks, pharma, for taking my money and feeding me some kind of nonsense!"

For Bacterial Infection "Been on twice now in several months for infection under root canal. Definitely messes with indigestion and caused nausea and diarrhea. I have had worsening fatigue. Even when stopped, feel negative effects for days and would not be able to recommend this drug. BTW - tests still have infection."
