For Bacterial Infection "Was prescribed clindamycin for a dental infection. Day 1 - Slight heartburn. Day 2 - Severe heartburn (never had it that bad in my life). Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. My guts felt like being twisted and rolled non-stop. Day 3 - I stopped taking them. Same symptoms as day 2, but this time I couldn't get out of bed all day. Day 4 - Still severe heartburn. Been off the pill for 2 days now, but still experiencing horrible heartburn. Hopefully, day 5 will be better, was switched to Z-pack instead. Never going back to clindamycin again in my life."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Was prescribed Metronidazole pills, and the first day was fine, symptoms went away almost instantly, mild side effect of a bit of nausea and drowsiness. Nothing I couldn’t handle. Second day was a literal nightmare: dizziness, confusion, fever, vomiting, cold sweats. I went back to my doctor, and she said we’d try the Clindamycin vaginal cream. FAIR WARNING, it’s a lot more expensive than the pills. But the cramps and discharge were so bad, and there was NO WAY I was going to go through 5 more days of vomiting and utter hell. Now on the first night of the cream, and so far, so good. Symptoms mostly abated, no side effects at all. I’m feeling more confident this won’t have me spending the night with my head in the toilet again... so far, would recommend over the Metronidazole."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I've been on clindamycin multiple times: 450 mg every 8 hours for 7 days, 300 mg every 8 hours for 7 days, 300 mg every 12 hours for 10 days. Knocks out MRSA cellulitis/folliculitis like no other. A combo of Keflex and doxy for 20 days did nothing except land me in the ER with MRSA sepsis, where IV clindamycin took care of it in 24 hours. I now ask for it by name. It's going to work, trust me. Side effects for me personally are body/joint aches, tiredness, and a bit of brain fog. Extreme nausea and reflux occurred the first time I took it, until I learned to only drink water while taking it. Cut out everything else you drink, especially carbonated drinks, and stick to water."

For Surgical Prophylaxis "I started this medicine almost a week ago, before oral surgery, and I must say that the biggest side effect I experienced was feeling sick to the stomach and loss of appetite. I have learned that you must take this with a glass of water and don't lay down right after."

For Sinusitis "I was given this for a severe sinus infection. I have taken the full prescription as noted and am still suffering ailments of the sinusitis. Each time the med is taken, I cough uncontrollably, have the nastiest metallic taste in my mouth along with nausea and an enormous amount of heartburn, a feverish feeling almost like I am sunburned. I took 2 150 mg 4 times a day for 10 days. Will try to avoid this one next time."

For Bacterial Infection "I had a sinus infection that wouldn't go away with other antibiotics, and I'm allergic to so many of the other strong ones that this is what I ended up being prescribed. I was worried about bad side effects because of my standing allergies, but it's really not all that bad. I started feeling better after the first day, and I didn't have any side effects at first. It's day 6 of a 10-day treatment, and I have a terribly sore throat, but that's the only bad side effect I've noticed besides some soreness and mild nausea if I don't eat much. Note that I take a probiotic every day, eat before each pill, and drink a full bottle of water. I also don't lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. I'll try to stick out the full 10 days."

For Bacterial Infection "Had to take Mylan-Clindamycin 300 mg for 7 days for a tooth infection, and the first couple of days it made me very nauseous. Then, by the 4th day, it gave me extremely bad stomach pains, which I've later found out that the medication gave me a stomach ulcer, which is extremely painful when I eat or even drink water. I highly recommend not using this antibiotic."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed 14 days of clindamycin to treat a gum infection prior to a tooth extraction. There are so many side effects of this medication, none of which were explained to me. First, when you take each dose, it must be with a large glass of water, and you must not lay down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. If you lay down immediately after taking it, it can get stuck in your esophagus, causing extreme irritation and burning sensations. It is miserable. So, if you are taking it 4 times a day, expect to wake up and sit up for 30 minutes at least once a night. After taking this medication, I had severe nausea at bedtime every night for six months. Probiotic yogurts helped mask the symptoms, but I eventually asked my doctor about it. Apparently, if you have any acid reflux and take clindamycin, your esophagus can become severely damaged by the acid and cannot heal on its own. Thus, I had to take a month of Prilosec to reduce my acid production so my esophagus could heal and the nausea would stop."

For Bacterial Infection "Would never recommend this antibiotic! I was prescribed 7 days, 3 times a day. Today, I took this med, so I did. I have a very bad stomach to start with. I was able to do my first 7 days without a problem, then after my seven days, I started to have really bad diarrhea, and I rarely have this. It has lasted now for like two weeks. Now I had to restart another dosage of clindamycin for another 7 days, but I saw that they were not the same color as the other ones I had taken. I don't know why, but anyway, I started them yesterday, and I've never felt sicker! My stomach was very upset, diarrhea, nausea, chills, fever, dizziness, and my throat is hurting. I'm not one to complain usually, but after this, I immediately stopped the medication! Never again."

For Bacterial Infection "My dentist prescribed me this after he told me I had to get my wisdom teeth extracted. I had an infection because one of the teeth hadn't come through the gum all the way, and there was a flap of gum over it (before the extraction). I've only been on the antibiotic for 3 days now, and the side effects are worse than the problem it's supposed to be solving. My entire side of my face and throat hurt so bad it's keeping me up at night, and I can barely eat/drink. I feel completely nauseous and keep throwing up, which wasn't happening before I started taking it, and I'm so dizzy most of the day that I feel like I can barely get anything done. I wouldn't recommend this medication at all."

For Surgical Prophylaxis "Clindamycin is a good drug for oral bacteria, and since I had an allergy to penicillin, I was prescribed this for 5 days after my oral surgery. The first dose caused terrible heartburn and nausea. I was very nervous about vomiting after mouth surgery. The next dose I took with a big glass of water, yogurt, and applesauce and sat up for 30 minutes-no problems after that. Except for watery diarrhea, which started the day after stopping. Keeping well hydrated and taking my probiotics should help."

For Bacterial Infection "I have been taking this medication for 36 hours. In the first 12, I had bad nausea, but that has since passed. The pain from 2 abscesses has subsided. I still have severe swelling in the face, which I am slowly controlling with ice. I have a feeling the abscess has broken, as I have an awful taste in my mouth. My suggestion is to take as prescribed, drink lots of water, and sleep as much as you can to help your body recover. Good luck, everyone."

For Bacterial Infection "I had a sore throat that wouldn't go away. I was diagnosed with tonsillitis, then given this medication. First day was fine. Second day was fine. Third day - no sore throat - but things took a turn. My stomach was in so much pain, I was nauseous, felt like cramping, it was unbearable. I knew diarrhea was common, so I figured I should just suck it up. But the stomach pains were too much! I called my doctor, and they recommended I use a probiotic. So I picked up 'Culturelle.' Within 5 minutes of taking that (about 3 hours after I took my two doses of the antibiotics), I ran to the bathroom thinking I was going to throw up. I started to feel extremely dizzy, got really sweaty, and super disoriented. Super scary! Got off the meds."

For Bacterial Infection "OMG. Dentist gave me clindamycin for a bacterial infection in my mouth before oral surgery. I was taking 300 mg 4 times a day for 10 days. On the 5th day, I became so sick with violent diarrhea and extreme nausea I had to get off. I continued to day 7 at least and told them I could no longer or would no longer take it as I felt like I was going to die. I did my research after, and the horror stories for most people that have taken it should have been an alarm to me. I haven't been on antibiotics for years and years and believe in healing holistically and naturally but felt this was an exception to the rule. Trying to step up eradicating infection with even more natural things but don't know since I have been on those dreadful antibiotics."

For Bacterial Infection "I took one 300-milligram dose after a root canal, and after 5 hours, horrible burning and itching down my back, buttocks, and ears were unbearable. I was standing at work when, after an hour, I became light-headed and had difficulty walking. I had to stop every 5 steps to rest, my heart was pounding. I thought I was having a heart attack. I became nauseous and extremely hot. I drank lots of water and sat down in front of the AC. I began to feel better. I came home and discovered blisters on the insides of both thighs and calves. My right hand is red and swollen, and my lips are chafed and swollen. My back has a painful rash on it. This is my first day, one single dose... Never again."

For Bacterial Infection "Took first pill, after 4 hours of taking it, I lay down, and it felt like knives were stabbing my stomach, upper and lower back for one hour. Proceeded with sweating, chills, nausea, and constant feeling of 50 knives in my stomach! $5.00 drug was not worth feeling like I'm dying."

For Bacterial Infection "I've needed antibiotics plenty of times in the past, which is my hunch as to why this specific medication was prescribed to me. Although I don't feel any nausea, within an hour of taking the pill on a full stomach and with water, my digestive system is going crazy. My intestines make a bunch of noise all day long. After hours of digestive noise, I end up with diarrhea, multiple times a day. Very uncommon for me. The gastrointestinal noise isn't productive in any other way, I don't produce gas of any sort, so it just goes on and on. As much as I hate the side effect, it did work. My infection was cleared after 7 days on a twice-daily dosage. I eat very clean, which I'm sure helped it be better than it could have been. My advice: avoid diuretic foods (including coffee) and eat fermented foods (probiotics) while on this medication."

For Peritonitis "This was for the prevention of infection of the gums and teeth. Horrible experience, allergic severe diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea, also some weakness and stomach pain. This was not reported to the dentist, but returned to normal after the medication was finished. This was the worst antibiotic ever for me."

For Bacterial Infection "Thank you to all who post tips for counteracting the side effects! This is the only antibiotic I can take due to allergic reactions to others and am always miserable with intestinal trouble and nausea. Am taking 300 mg 3 times a day for infected bone graft now. Barely an upset stomach by following tips: eat a serving of carbs, take drug with probiotic, drink 2 glasses of water, and move around a bit. And don't forget the Pepcid AC before bed. Best of health to you!"

For Bacterial Infection "I started taking this a few days ago. The very next day after I started taking it, I had chest pain, and it got so bad I thought I was having a heart attack. It also makes me extremely dizzy to where I can’t stand up without almost falling down. I get nauseous and sometimes even thrown up. I am supposed to take 2 every 6 hours, so that’s 8 pills a day, but the side effects are so bad I can’t really take it. I talked to my doctor about it, and they just pushed my side effects to the side and told me to deal with it. I’m struggling with this antibiotic, honestly, so I might find a new doctor."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was given this drug for a pilonidal cyst. I was nauseous the first day. Diarrhea started 3 days in and got so bad I had to stop. Have been off it for 2 days and still have diarrhea and feel wiped out. I won't be taking it again. Lost 4 pounds in 3 days. Still taking probiotics, hoping this subsides soon."

For Bacterial Infection "I immediately had a severe reaction to this drug given to me for a minor infection (carbuncle on my leg). I'm happy to provide photographs. My body was covered in every crevice and surface with raised, blistering, bleeding hives and rash. I had nausea, chills, fatigue, and body aches along with this horrific skin reaction for over a week. It's deadly! Do not take this drug! Only had 2 capsules of 300 mg. Learned that anyone with autoimmune, blood sugar, or any other type of existing condition should never take this!"

For Deep Neck Infection "It cured my infection, but the side effects sent me to the hospital. I got chest tightness, severe heartburn, plus the severe pain of swallowing! My face flushed red. Excruciating headache for a short time at the hospital. Also nausea at times. The hospital thought it was a heart attack until it was ruled out. They didn't connect the clindamycin to be a problem. I will never take it again, as I also have IBS, and it didn't help. I only have 4 capsules left on the 28 RX."

For Bacterial Infection "I've got this tooth that has been bothering me, so my dentist gave me this and said it's standard to prescribe this for an infected tooth. I've never taken it before, so I had no clue what I was in for. I am sometimes sensitive to side effects, but this was textbook. I got nauseous, then my chest began to burn. After I stopped throwing up, I couldn't stay off the toilet. My throat is still burning, and it's been hours. I only took one dose, but I will never take this again."

For Bacterial Infection "I got stung by a wasp and got a terrible secondary infection. The clindamycin cleared up the infection, but the heartburn and stomach ache I got as a result was almost worse than the infection. I had to constantly take Tums and Pepto-Bismol to fight off the nausea and heartburn."
