For Bacterial Infection "I started taking clindamycin 300 mg three times a day for 5 days for an infected tooth extraction. I tried Amoxicillin first, but it didn't work. I noticed a pain in my chest after the second day. Also, I was really nauseous. Today, my thumb on my left hand is hurting so bad. I didn't injure it in any way. It is a joint pain. The clindamycin is helping with the painful infection of my gum, but I can't wait until I am finished taking it."

For Bacterial Infection "Last Wednesday, 4/22/2015, I went to the dentist for a severe toothache. I wasn't sure if I had a really bad cavity or an abscessed tooth. The technician takes an X-ray of the infected tooth, and the dentist offers to pull it. I say alright because I'm thinking it is a cavity. Novocaine won't numb it, my left lower next to last jaw tooth is throbbing. The dentist tries to pull it out with a pair of forceps. I came out of the chair in pain, then she tells me I have an abscessed tooth! I've been taking this antibiotic for 5 to 6 days, and it is just now starting to take effect. I'm taking 150 mg, 2 capsules three times daily till gone. I eat before I take it, and this medicine still makes me feel nauseated."

For Bacterial Infection "I've been taking clindamycin 300 mg 3 times a day for 6 days now. It was prescribed to me because I had a tooth pulled and ended up getting infected. After taking it for 2 days, the swelling in my face went down, and finally on day six, I have no pain. I have, however, experienced some cramping in my stomach, very little, nothing that interrupts my daily routine, and have had some nausea, but it doesn't last long, and nothing I can't handle. Other than this, I've been good with it, but... this is only day 6, so I'll see how I feel once I've finished all the antibiotics."

For Bacterial Infection "The diarrhea started on the first day I started taking clindamycin and has lasted for about a week after the last dose and continues. I didn’t feel nauseated during the time I took it (with meal and water), but now I do. I’m due for another round of clindamycin for this tooth abscess, but I don’t think I can handle it. The pain in my tooth has subsided, but this is the cost? My appetite is gone, and I haven’t been normal for two weeks. Gonna start probiotics instead. But by golly: Don’t assume that if a grandparent is allergic to penicillin, it makes you allergic too. I should have taken an allergy test beforehand so I could have taken amoxicillin instead! This wasn’t even a severe tooth infection."

For Bacterial Infection "Went to the ER for a severe bacterial infection in my foot and was prescribed clindamycin, 300 mg every 6 hrs for 10 days. It's been rough. Definite nausea and heartburn. I feel incredibly tired and have had more bowel movements than normal. My symptoms from the infection on my foot have almost gone away, but the antibiotics have been very unpleasant. I guess it's a give and take, killing the bacterial infection ends up waging war on my insides."

For Surgical Prophylaxis "So I had my wisdom teeth removed on June 5th of this year and was prescribed this medication in case I developed a post-op infection. As I'm 17, my immediate favorite 'side effect' of this medication is that it began to improve my acne. Here's where everything begins to go south. About a week later, I began to notice urgent diarrhea. This problem persisted for several days, at least 10 times a day. I began to lose weight, insane stomach cramps, nausea, I couldn't sleep, severe dehydration. I began to have bowel movements that only consisted of blood and mucus. I was admitted to the hospital for GI scopes. The next morning, my surgeon came to review the procedure. He said I was positive for C. diff and immediately asked if I had been on clindamycin. He then explained how powerful this antibiotic is and how it basically stripped my colon of all of my 'good bacteria', allowing the C. diff bacteria to become toxic. Do not take this antibiotic if you can at all help it!"

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Clindamycin caused excruciating esophageal and gastric pain, nausea, and a general feeling that I was going to die. I woke up in the middle of the night with extreme chest pain and couldn't even get out of bed, and eventually passed out. I was genuinely surprised to be alive when I woke up the next morning. I could only get through three days before the side effects became this severe, and they only got worse and worse. It took more than 8 months to fully recover, and I was living with severe heartburn, weakness, nausea, and inability to eat or drink without severe pain. Thousands of dollars of tests, additional drugs, probiotics, and self-medication later, it eventually got better. Upper endoscopy revealed severe gastritis, which I know was directly caused by clindamycin. Never again."

For Bacterial Infection "I had a bad skin infection that turned into a blood infection rather quickly. While this antibiotic kicked its ass, it also kicked mine. I was on 500 mg 3 times a day for about 2 weeks (starting off with IV and then when I was discharged, pills). The side effects I experienced were like a living hell. I'd rather cut off my leg than take them again. Heartburn, metallic taste, my skin started peeling off on my hands, face, and legs. My eczema broke out terribly, but my acne cleared up, so there's that. But the worst part was the diarrhea and nausea. I feel so faint and tired, 24/7, no appetite, and my stomach feels like I have bowling balls in it. I've been vomiting almost every day along with nonstop diarrhea. It works. But it's HELL, even after you stop."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "This has worked great on my MRSA, but the side effects have been horrible. I have felt like I've had the flu, but worse: fever, nauseous, but the worst has been the itching! I'm not breaking out in hives, but it's a deep internal itch that I can't stop! Benadryl helps, but makes me sleepy! I'm not sure if it's an allergic reaction, but in all the reviews I have read, no one mentions this."

For Surgical Prophylaxis "I blindly took this as prescribed for my wisdom tooth removal. 1000 mg 3x a day for 7 days to prevent post-op complications. DO NOT TAKE IT! A week later, it caused me to have a severe case of C. diff colitis. I didn't know about any of this, but I would have taken my chance on complications (look up studies about if antibiotics even help prevent complications). I've lost so much weight, so tired, bedridden, diarrhea for two weeks now with blood and severe cramps and pain, 102.5 fever, nausea, loss of appetite. The diarrhea being impossible to keep clean has also caused a UTI from E. coli with another fever, blood/clots/tissue, severe pain. NOT WORTH IT. I feel like I was uninformed."

For Bacterial Infection "Was prescribed clindamycin for an earache. I'm not allergic to amoxicillin, so I'm not sure why I was prescribed it. I'll never take it again. I've had all kinds of pain throughout my life, but this was new. I thought I was having a heart attack. Pain radiates from the esophagus to my back. My esophagus is inflamed, so anything swallowed causes such pain. I've never had such severe side effects from a medication. Lortabs and opiates make me nauseated, but this was new. Horrible. Beware."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was prescribed 300 mg twice daily for seven days to treat a case of bacterial vaginitis. It cleared up my infection within a few days, so it has definitely been effective, although I can't say that I've enjoyed taking it. The blue capsules I was given taste like a cross between bug spray and nail polish remover, and they made me gag every time. Once I actually threw the pill up, so I would suggest taking it with food if you have a weak stomach. Toward the end of my prescription, I noticed a slight orange/pink discharge, which may or may not be a side effect of the medication. Both the discharge and the nausea may have been exacerbated by the fact that I'm currently pregnant."

For Bacterial Infection "I have taken this medication about four times in my life. First two times because I was pregnant with a tooth abscess. Other two, same story. First time, it cleared the infection with little side effects as I already have IBS. Third time was terrible, and I stopped taking it. This time, I found it again and am on day 2. I'm nauseous, have horrid cramping and diarrhea, severe lightheadedness, migraines, chills, slight fever, and the pain is still immense. Not worth the side effects."

For Bacterial Infection "First off, if you have difficulty swallowing capsules, you will have a hard time with this medicine. I have no problem with normal coated tablets and pills, but found it extremely hard to swallow due to it being in a capsule. After 3-4 days of no issues of the 300 mg dose for reoccurring strep, I had an awful reaction. After I struggled to get it down, I quickly (5-10 minutes) started to feel a strong heartburn/acid reflux feeling in my chest. This is common for me, so I just took some Tums like I normally would and thought I'd be fine. After about 15-20 mins, it still wasn't gone, and I started to feel extremely nauseous and had to run to the bathroom and proceeded to vomit quite violently. So I stopped taking the medicine."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I have never had BV before, but I have to admit it, the medicine started to relieve all my symptoms within the first few days. I did experience nausea and chest pain, sore throat, but I feel like the good outweighed the bad. Through my treatment process, I have a few more days left, and I'm overall satisfied with my treatment."

For Bacterial Infection "I have several health conditions and ended up getting an abscess in my nose that, due to my health issues, I couldn’t fight off. The swelling became severe and up to the whole right side of my face, which started becoming severely deformed. I went to the ER and was given this through an IV and handled it okay (I have an amoxicillin and Cephalosporin allergy). I was given 7 days of antibiotics to take every 6 hours. The side effects are awful. Within the first few days, I developed a horrible rash on my face, but the medicine was helping, so I continued it. My stomach is completely screwed up, I’m horribly nauseous half the time, and I’m almost done now, but this is the second time I’ve had excruciating heartburn. The only reason I’m giving this 3 stars is that it’s the only thing that made the severe swelling in my face go away. I was starting to panic and saw this forum with other people who are also experiencing this, I hope the pain goes away soon."

For Bacterial Infection "I had a root canal 2 weeks ago, and there was no abscess or infection then. After the second part of the root canal a couple of days ago, the x-ray showed an infection. Since I'm allergic to penicillin, they prescribed clindamycin. I have a sensitive stomach, and this medicine really did a number on me! I took 3 capsules 8 hours apart, and each one had worse results. I also forgot about not lying down for 30 minutes after taking a pill the 3rd time. I filled my stomach up with food to try and protect it, but it didn't work. I had nausea, stomach pain, and intestinal cramps. I have no idea if it would have cleared the infection. I just started taking cephalexin tonight, which can also cause stomach problems, but so far it hasn't."

For Bacterial Infection "The pill has worked great to get rid of my infection from a tooth, but the side effects have wiped me out. No diarrhea, but I thought I was having a heart attack, the chest pain was so bad, and the fatigue is getting worse the longer I'm on it. I'm supposed to take it 3 times a day, but can only manage 2. I have had nausea and some vomiting, but it is still better than the tooth abscess!"

For Bacterial Infection "Do not take this medicine! With almost any antibiotics, it's smart to take a probiotic and to take on a full stomach (except the ones you need to take on an empty stomach). So I had the normal slight nausea. But about 5 days into taking it, I started to hurt in my muscles like before you get the flu. Then I woke up in the middle of the night, and I could hardly move. The joint pain in my wrists and back was unbearable. Not to mention extreme diarrhea. It's been about two weeks with the pain, I'm not sure I'll ever start to feel better."

For Bacterial Infection "Took this for blepharitis. Day 1, totally fine. Day 2, first dose, still good. Went to lunch and took a dose and then 5 minutes later, BOOM. It was like the worst feeling heartburn I have ever possibly experienced in my life. I had to drive across town, white-knuckling the steering wheel. Then the nausea set in. Ran into the drugstore in tears to find the antacids. Those did not help. I ate like 5. Then this kept going in cycles of excruciating pain in my esophagus to wanting to vomit and back again. I managed to drink a slight bit of water, which helped ease a bit. It is now nearly two hours later, and I’m still feeling like my esophagus is just going to dissolve. I managed to call my doc and ask for a different med."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was prescribed clindamycin for a horrible infection of my finger that was swollen, and I couldn't bend it. I had cramps and diarrhea the same day I started on it. I took a 300 mg dose every 8 hours for 10 days. I broke out in hives on day 4 or 5. Had the worst heartburn I've ever experienced. Also felt like I was getting a yeast infection. Then, 2 days after finishing the mess, I woke up with every joint from head to toe hurting like never before. Every muscle ached also from head to toe for 2 days. Horrible headache, lethargic and weak, and sweating and clammy, and absolutely miserable. These symptoms were worse than any flu I'd ever had. I could barely get out of bed for 48 hours. Then the body aches subsided quite a bit. I kept having chronic headaches, nausea, diarrhea still going on since day one. Still clammy and sweaty and weak. My GI system hurts from sternum to my butt. I will never take this pill again !!"

For Bacterial Infection "I'm 32 weeks pregnant, and I had an abscess and really bad infection in my mouth. I was put on clindamycin 6 days ago and had 2 of my molars pulled 3 days after I started the meds. I feel a million times better, but I've had diarrhea a couple of times and very mild heartburn once. I already eat yogurt twice a day, so I don't know if that helped me out with some of the side effects. I'm on 300 mg 3 times a day. I do get a bit nauseous. Even though these side effects aren't fun, I would rather deal with them any day than the pain I was feeling from the infection. It was unbearable."

For Bacterial Infection "Horrible! Do not take! I had it for my tooth infection, and initially, everything was fine for 4 days of taking 150 mg 3 times a day. On the 5th day, I suffered delirium, rash, white tongue, dry mouth, an extreme ill feeling, chills, nausea, and had huge pain in my stomach area. I quit taking it, and 3 days later, I still have the white tongue (thrush) and nausea. I did not have diarrhea because I ate yogurt while on this killer antibiotic. Yogurt is a probiotic, and if you choose to take clindamycin, PLEASE EAT yogurt so you don't get diarrhea!"

For Bacterial Infection "I had a dental abscess and impacted wisdom teeth. I was prescribed the 300 mg from the emergency room. When I first started taking it, I felt like acid was burning underneath my gums and pain running from my head to my ear and jaw. Excruciating pain. 2nd day the same thing. Every time I take this, it gives me horrible, burning pain that lasts about 30 mins. I thought it was because of the infection. Then, I started feeling nauseous. Every day after, I felt more and more nauseous, fatigued, and my teeth were more and more sensitive. The pain was excruciating when I tried to eat breakfast. I have to eat before I take this stuff to prevent the nauseous feeling, but it didn't work. I have to take this for 10 days. I don't want to take this again."
