Biaxin (clarithromycin) "After being sick for a month and a half, after a useless round of Amoxclav, my doctor finally prescribed Biaxin and Prednidone for my sinus infection. Within a day I was able to breathe through my nose. My only complaint is the absolutely disgusting aftertaste...and the occasional upset stomach. I think the side effects are worth it as I finally feel good for the first time in weeks."

Biaxin (clarithromycin) "Might work for others, but I came down with most of the adverse side effects within hours of taking one 500mg tab. Ended up in emergency 12 hours later with difficulty breathing from swollen airways. Hives. Scary part was how it can effects the mind. I had residual effects for a number of days."

"Honestly, it gave the worst side effects i've ever experienced. I have Crohn's Disease and have been on a bunch of different types of medications, so that's saying something. The 1st dose wasn't too bad, horrible metalic taste in my mouth but that was about it. I noticed my sinuses to be less congested and i could finally sleep at night without my nose getting completed clogged. But after the second dose i had horrible stomach cramps (even though i took it with food) , the nausea was veryyyy uncomfortable and the taste in my mouth was so strong i could barely swallow my own saliva without wanting to hurl. NOTHING would get rid of the taste either. I've stopped taking it, never again! NEVER AGAIN!"

"First of all To the people saying biaxin should be off the market, You do realize that there are different kinds of antibiotics and what works for uou wont work for me , and vice versa. For example I am allergic to penicillin and any antibiotic related to it makes me feel awful and worse. But it works for many other people. That being said Biaxin WORKS for me. In fact It instantly worked by the next day when I woke up my nose didnt have green chunks in it anymore. Yes it gives metallic taste. Yes day 3 I have head ache behind my eyes. ( maybe the medication working on the more deeper infected area). If you get a dull headache Take an advil dont stop taking the medication... A migraine I would stop but a mild headache I think is Managable."

"The doctor prescribed clarithromycin for a sinus infection. I was really concerned after reading the reviews. My experience was positive. I only took the tablet with food, the nausea sensation only when my belly was empty; I had the metal taste in my mouth but sucking a lollie that quickly went away. I was very fatigued on this medication and my knees ached. It was hard to concentrate as well. The medication itself was a 7 day course and it took the full 7 days to clear my sinus infection where my tonsillitis etc went after day 1. I found breathing eucalyptus oil in my handkerchief dried my sinus really fast as this is a natural remedy to sooth I inflammation, I also massaged my sinus each night after a shower ( googled how to do this) and that really worked too. All in all the combination of the above worked abut it was really really slow to recover..don’t expect to feel great after a few days."

Biaxin (clarithromycin) "i always get sinusitis on a yearly basis. on my worst occasion, i tried 'em all from Zythromax to Ammoxicillian, etc. none worked for me. ONLY Biaxin works!! MD says its not the most recommended antibiotic for sinusitis but does work and is the only one that works for me. Yes ~ it does leave a metallic taste in my mouth, but i like knowing its in my system and attacking my problem so i don't mind the taste at all... i was also told it is a very old antibiotic, but its an "Oldie but Goodie"!! Some insurance will cover it while others will not."

"I googled metallic taste from Clarithromycin as its revolting and wanted to know if anyone else experienced it too. I am on a 14 day course because of a sinus infection, which has made a world of difference. I just have an annoying cough and I have 3 days left of the course. What I have found fascinating is other people mentioning crazy vivid dreams and blurry eyes. I never would have associated it to the drug had I not read these comments. I'll stick out the course as I don't want the sinus infection to come back but boy it's a weird antibiotic!!"

Biaxin (clarithromycin) "One dose of this medicine Biaxin left me with severe heart arythmia and messed with my mind. I felt like I was on LCD. I took it once before a couple decades ago and had similar but lesser side effects. I'm not sure if I was prescribed a larger than normal dose since I was in Germany, but the side effects are very dangerous."

"I had a pretty serious sinus infection. I was having minor fevers every few hours and was as congested as I've ever been. To its credit, it has all but killed the sinus infection in 3.5 days. HOWEVER. I've been nauseous for 3 straight days. It feels like I have rocks in my stomach and a lump in my esophagus. This metallic taste never leaves my mouth. Diarrhea 3x a day. Occasional headaches. And I still have 6.5 days left on this questionable medication. I would rather have the fevers and congestion back. I am never getting this medication again if I can help it."

"I have been fighting a sinus infection for almost a month now. I am on my third day of taking 1000mg of this antibiotic daily and around 3 hours after taking the pills I get an awful taste in my mouth, along with an upset stomach, a heavy feeling in my stomach and a headache. Awful : ("

Biaxin (clarithromycin) "I read a bunch of reviews from people who have mentioned having upset stomachs and yeast infections. I used to have those issues on antiobiotics, but then I learned that taking a very strong probiotic (I take the refrigerated ones from Jarro) and a feminine probiotic with lactobaccilus eliminates or at least greatly reduces those issues. I strongly recommend taking both whenever you take antiobiotics. For this one, I agree that you definitely need to take it with a reasonable amount of food. The metallic taste comes and goes but is generally tolerable. I do feel loopy, but I am guessing that has more to do with how sick I am than anything else. Hope this helps."

Biaxin (clarithromycin) "I was put on Biaxin for a major sinus infection. 500 mg twice daily for one month. Pharmacist told me that sinus infections can take a very long time to go away. I definitely feel better but am still having the runny nose, congestion and a little cough still but much less than before. It's been 3 weeks now since I was put on this. Hope it kicks it out of my system. "

"I have had sinus infection since February of this year. Been on antibiotics twice and nasal spray, none of which had helped, after the 2nd coarse of antibiotics I developed a raging flu, which kept me in bed. When it was not clearing, 10days later, returned to my doc and was given Claithromycin 7 day coarse. Have been told about the metallic taste, which I can cope with as long as it clears up this dreadful infection."

"Very effective medication but the taste in the mouth is absolutely brutal and I find once the infection is gone and you still need to continue, your stomach starts getting upset.. The only thing that helped me not throw up from the taste is cinnamon gum! Hope it helps :)"

"I have been on this med for 5 days for a sinus infection. I am so close to calling it quits. I have been having bad anxiety, heart palpitations, clammy sweats, and feel shaky and weak on it. It makes food taste like crap and leaves a nasty battery acid taste in your mouth. I start to feel better in the couple hours coming up to my next dose (every 12 hours) and then BAM within an hour after taking the dose it all hits. It is definitley helping my sinus infection but this drug is hell. A pharmacist told me that this is in the top two antibiotics that are reported to have the worse side effects. Boooo. I also took a Zopiclone so I could sleep and woke up with a nasty reaction! Felt so high and dizzy, drugged out of my mind...terrifying."

Biaxin (clarithromycin) "have used Biaxin (actually now always the generic version) for many years. Works great for me, always makes me feel much better within 12-18 hours of taking the first pill. Never had ANY side effects, except metallic taste - which has never bothered me (never been very strong). Great drug, wonderful for my chronic sinusitis. (Hint: I eat lots of miso when taking antibiotics; does wonders for my GI when taking antibiotics. Miso soup, miso on top of rice, miso in various dishes; just make sure you get the longest fermented one you can find - I buy 2-yr miso.)"

"I'm on day 3 of Biaxin XL and I haven't experienced even one side effect, hoping it stays this way. Everyone is different and you can't judge it by others, I was scared to death after reading things on here. I started feeling better the next day also. So far so good."

"Only on day three of this medication and having occasional relief from my sinus infection pain. The only side effect I've had so far is this horrible taste in my mouth. I read on this site that someone used salt water swish in their mouth to cover it and it really works. Just 10 seconds of swishing and the taste is gone. I've had to do this every couple of hours but it's better than that terrible taste."

"I got hit with chills, body aches and an extremely high fever out of no where (started and sky rocketed in an hour). I went to my doctor and she prescribed Clarithromycin - 500mg for 7 days, a nasal spray and ear drops for an ear infection. The first night I took it I did not feel any side effects, the 2nd and 3rd night I felt nauseous, a lot of pain in my abdominal area and could not fall asleep. This drug tastes like horse poo mixed with garbage, it leaves a vile taste in your mouth. However, it has helped with my infection, I am starting to come back to normal and general weakness has left my body. * Someone recommended swishing salt water to help with the taste, if you do this 3-4 times a day IT WILL HELP. Good luck to you all."

"Been taking Biaxin for my 4th day. I got a really bad cold which left me with a sinus infection. I'm allergic to many things, and I always have issues with my sinus. This has worked great for clearing it up and relieving the pressure, but like everyone else on here, I too, am experiencing the awful taste it leaves in my mouth. It also has wrecked havoc on my stomach. My mother is being treated for the same cold, and she was up all night, the first day on them, vomited a lot. You have to suffer something in order to get the best results. This works, and I'll deal with whatever side effects it dishes out, if it means I can breathe again!"

"The most disgusting taste in my mouth, even made my toothbrush smell weird. nasty chemical smell /taste, headache, blurry eyes, lack of concentration, nausea, stomach bloating and churning, vomited when brushing teeth. Horrible antibiotic, calling gp tomorrow to arrange for alternative antibiotic, cannot stand the taste or side effects."

"I am on my second round of antibiotics and this time my dr prescribed clarithromycin. I am finally able to breath and inhale through my nostrils for the first time in months. I firstly after taking the pills noticed the awful indescribable taste in my mouth. BUT breathing is much better than taste when it comes to taking this medicine. It actually works- I am a coffee drinker and I found out that coffee takes the taste away and ginger gum works great for any nausea. Iam shocked of the results and my bowels are still normal. Late at night I am drinking grape or fruit juices to help with dry mouth or taste. Daily regiment of yogurt helps from avoiding any UTI or yeast infections! Happy recovering- hope this helps!"

Biaxin (clarithromycin) "I just came down with sinusitis, something I've had in past years. I'm now in the second day of taking Biaxin's generic (Clarithromycin ) and on day one, several hours after the first dose I began to feel better. Now into day two the symptoms have lessened but they're still there. I've had good luck with Biaxin in the past, and its generic is living up to that performance. 10 days should clear this up completely."

"I have been on clarithromycin for about 4 days now. It gives me a terrible taste in my mouth. I'm constantly thirsty, which leads to frequent bathroom breaks and the second night I was up most of the night sleeping very lightly and having anxiety. I haven't slept well at all in the 4 days that I have taken it and I notice its causing my heart to palpitate. I have a terrible sinus infection and do want to stop the medicines, but I feel like a zombie and I'm looking quite pale. "

"Been On Clarithromycin for 5 Days and have to do a 7 day cycle - Only 4 tablets left. I would advice anyone not to google the side effects you are getting from this job because some websites say pregnancy! I have the most vile taste in my mouth, which gets worse as I cough. I wake up with my tongue stuck down to the bottom of my mouth and I feel extreme hunger pains/stomach pains. Saying that I would say this drug work very well. I have vivid dreams and can't sleep at all at night."
