For Strep Throat "Yesterday I woke up feeling very sick. I had a horrible sore throat, a bad migraine, and I felt like I was going to vomit. I went to the doctor, and he prescribed Biaxin. Ever since I started taking Biaxin, I have been very sleepy during the day and have had restless sleep during the night. It has also left a really bitter taste in my mouth. I have been drinking so much water and going to the bathroom a lot, but it doesn't seem to have made anything better. I will give it a few more days."

For Bronchitis "Biaxin was prescribed for bronchitis, 500 mg, 2x daily. I have experienced a metallic taste since the first pill. I am tired and have experienced soreness on my right side. I have experienced soreness on my right side from other antibiotics as well (not all antibiotics), so perhaps this is a rare sensitivity on my part."

For Sinusitis "I used this twice and it worked each time. However, I used clav recently for swelling in my chin, and while the clav is bringing down the swelling, the sinusitis is coming back! I think I will need to go on a dose of Biaxin after this clav."

For Pneumonia "Slightly improved symptoms with first dose. Every dose: stomach pain left side, fullness feeling, bloated. Stiff neck for an hour or so. Tired for an hour or so. Horrible taste in the mouth. Drinks taste bad."

For Sinusitis "My 11-year-old daughter has sinusitis, and the Biaxin has quickly helped her feel better, but she vomited once on the 3rd day and again on the 4th day, both in the morning. Not sure if it's the Biaxin, the dripping from her sinuses, or the combination. The doctor didn't seem too concerned unless it persists."

For Bronchitis "Prescribed this drug several years ago. Shortly after taking it, I went 5 nights without sleep and was subsequently hospitalized for a manic episode with delusions. It took months to recover from the depression that followed. I was on mood stabilizers for a year and a half post-episode before gaining enough courage to wean off entirely. It has been a few years now that I am clean and clear of all medications. Mentally stable and back to working in emergency medicine. I have since stayed far away from the entire 'myocin' family of antibiotics for fear that I am hypersensitive. Highly recommend staying away from this drug."

For Bronchitis "I only have negative reviews for this drug. Avoid!!!! I started with a milder antibiotic, finished the course, but it relapsed with sinus & chest infection, and so I was put on Biaxin. My sinus took a month to go, but the side effects I could not tolerate were - loss of sleep (no sleep), no appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, feeling depressed, and emotional outbursts. I'm a very happy person & always around people, but this medicine made me go into a shell. It took a lot of effort from my friends & family to get me back to my normal state of mind."

For Middle Ear Infections "I was put on Biaxin 3 days ago for a sinus infection, bronchitis, ear infection, and upper respiratory tract infection, and have the most horrible taste in my mouth. The 1st night, I got up several times just to brush my teeth to get rid of the taste. I called the doctor today, and he is calling in something else."

"I have a very sensitive stomach, most antibiotics get me extremely sick. Biaxin is the only one I can take that doesn't completely destroy my stomach. The only side effect I get from this is a bad bitter taste in my mouth (usually about a half hour or so after taking it), and it's obviously worse at night and in the morning. However, I would rather have that taste than have the runs, nausea, or vomiting. I also take probiotics with this - the best ones I can recommend are the 'Integrative Probiotic Pearls.' Yeah, they are a little pricey, but they work well when taking antibiotics. (I got them at the pharmacy, and my pharmacist recommended these specific ones). *BEST ADVICE* Chew a lot of gum/mints in between dosages, you'll get used to the taste after a few days."

For Pneumonia "Hard for treating my 20-month-old daughter as the granules are gritty, and the whole suspension isn't very exciting to taste. It works, but make sure your baby does not spit up medicine or get something else if they do."

For Bronchitis "Went to the doctor's with a very bad sore throat and cough. Was given Biaxin, and it took two days for my throat to clear up, but my throat was very bad. It seems to be working. I was given a cough medicine too, could not tell which one was making me tired."

For Strep Throat "After taking one 500 mg clarithromycin, in about three hours I became dizzy, uncomfortable in the head, and short of breath. I am afraid to take another, although it was prescribed one every 12 hours. I have spent most of the day with my head reclined and eyes closed. I had the same reaction to 500 mg of Azithromycin, but I could take 250 mg with no problem. Shall I ask the doctor to prescribe a smaller dose? I am very fearful of another like this."

For Strep Throat "Whenever I got sick from seasonal flu or cold, I always had a sore throat and cough. My doctor would usually give me this medicine (Biaxin), and I was told this was a good medicine. It worked fast to clear my strep throat (sore throat). A few hours after taking this medicine, it made me feel better. I love Biaxin instead of Amoxin or other medicines."

For Strep Throat "I took 500 mg (5 doses) of amoxicilin, and it did nothing, literally, and I was shivering with cold fever, felt like I would never heal. But then, after taking the first dose of Biaxin, I felt it working as my pain reduced and feeling less dizzy. I would suggest Biaxin over amoxil."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "When I got the script for this antibiotic, the pharmacist warned me about the bitter/metallic taste that was one of the side effects. I did not experience this at all (perhaps because of the fact that I had lost my sense of smell?). Within the first two days, I started to feel better (sinuses and coughing were abated to a significant degree, my raspy voice started to become normal again, etc., etc.). I had few to no side effects. For one, it is indicated to take with food. In the morning, I ate a packet of instant oatmeal before taking this medication. I am not a breakfast eater, but I forced breakfast upon myself. I also ate LOTS of plain yogurt: 750g tub for lunch every day. Indeed, I had very little appetite, so eating soft foods helped. I am two pills away from finishing my 7-day (500mg twice daily) course of this medicine, and I can say that I am happy with the results. By the way, I rarely take antibiotics, so I doubt this is why I had few to no side effects."

For Strep Throat "I love this. I had a really bad strep throat, and I tried everything I could, so one day after I came back from a Cody Simpson signing (I couldn't miss that!), my mom and I walked to a doctor, and he suggested Biaxin. After one dose, I was feeling so much better. It's been four days, and I'm all better, and I haven't had any side effects! The only sad thing that happened while I was taking this was that a day after I got it, I had to miss a Justin Bieber concert with my friend (she went) because my parents didn't know if the side effects would affect me."

For Bronchitis "The last time I was prescribed Biaxin was for a case of bronchitis (possibly pneumonia, but it was hard to tell without a chest x-ray). I was given 500 mg twice a day. I was on it for 2 days when I was woken up late at night with the worst heartburn I ever had. It was so severe, it felt like I was having a heart attack. The next day, I went back to the doctor and begged them to give me something else (I was then given Levaquin and had no problems with it). I'm about to see the doctor for a sinus infection and will tell them not to give me Biaxin. The horrible metallic taste I always got from this medication was bad enough, the severe heartburn has put it onto my 'no-go' list of antibiotics."

For Bronchitis "I get sinus infections, which tend to lead to bronchial infections every eight to ten weeks. I’ve seen every specialist there is and given numerous puffers to try to prevent the infections, but to no avail. When I get an infection, the only antibiotic that clears the infection is Biaxin. Doctors keep wanting me to not take Biaxin for fear of building a resistance, but no matter what’s prescribed, it doesn’t do the job and it’s only been Biaxin that finally clears it in a matter of days. It’s so deflating having this condition and being told that the infection will eventually be resistant to Biaxin, but after ten years, it’s still the only antibiotic that works. I felt I was the only one in the world that experiences this, but I’m rejuvenated reading similar accounts."

For Bronchitis "I developed bronchitis, one of the worst bouts I'd ever had. The doc at the walk-in clinic prescribed Amoxicillin as she thought I had a sinus infection that went into my chest. After 5 days, my cough got worse, so I went to my MD who thought the bronchitis had morphed into pneumonia, so she prescribed Biaxin. By the 2nd day, I started noticing an improvement in my symptoms, although I started getting that horrid metallic taste in my mouth. I started taking it in the middle of a meal, and that started to help. Day 5 now, chest symptoms are much better, although I'm battling extreme fatigue that seems to be getting worse. My heart rate has gone up, and I'm not sleeping. I'm being woken up with an irritated throat and can't get back to sleep. The metallic taste in my mouth seems to be getting stronger, and the worst part is the reflux it seems the Biaxin is causing, making my throat very irritated and feels swollen. I can't stand this for another 5 days."

For Strep Throat "Started taking this medication 3 days ago for strep, didn't even know I could still get strep after getting my tonsils out 15 years ago. I've been sick for just over a month and wasn't getting any better. I take absolutely no medications, but I just couldn't take being sick anymore. The fever, chills, and aches are gone. Throat is still scratching if I talk too much, sinuses are still completely plugged, and runny nose is still present. My Dr. prescribed Biaxin for 10 days, so fingers crossed this continues to work!"

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "I was put on Biaxin a couple of days ago and though my tonsillitis has cleared up quite a bit, I'm still noticeably sick. I get extreme headaches, dark urine, upset stomach. I've been able to get little to no sleep and I have no appetite. I can't walk without feeling like I have no center of gravity, I constantly shake, and just today I started throwing up. It also leaves a bad metal taste in your mouth. I'm going to go see my doctor and try to get him to put me on another antibiotic because this one has a lot of side effects. I was previously on Biaxin XL and had no side effects with that."
