Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "I have been on this medication for just shy of 2 months. I was prescribed it for anxiety and depression, but mostly anxiety. I have found it to be good, however not so much for anxiety. It has helped my sleep for the most part, but I still get significant anxiety in the daytime. I will say you have to give it a good month for it to show its benefits, and there are side effects in the beginning, but they are minimal and not significant, mostly just yawning and sexual side effects. Other than that, I have found it to be effective."

For Anxiety and Stress "My anxiety was making day-to-day life very difficult and severely interfering with my work. I began to experience symptoms of panic in meetings and during phone calls. On March 7th, I started taking 10 mg citalopram every morning and two weeks later increased to 20 mg. I was very tired starting the drug, and when I increased the dose, but this went away after a few days, and I have not noticed any other side effects. My sex drive has not been affected, and I sleep well. It was around the 5-week mark that I noticed that I felt increasingly calm, able to think clearly and look at things objectively. The panicky thoughts and physical feelings of dread are practically nonexistent. I do not think I would have been able to come so far so quickly without citalopram. I feel happier than I have in years, and while I think the combination of CBT and citalopram has been the golden formula for me, citalopram itself has made a huge difference in my life."

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "June 23, Dr. prescribed 20 mg of Celexa for social anxiety at work. I was running out of options. Thought I was going to have to stop working after 20 years with the same company. My 15-year-old teen felt sorry for us. Tried Zoloft at first, made me very tired, more like a zombie. The Celexa 20 mg first dose made me feel wired, scared, paranoid, more anxiety, I could not leave the house. A coworker who had very good success with Celexa recommended that I start with 1/4 mg of a 10 mg tablet and increase it when my body and mind worked it out... and it did! About every 5 days, however, the first and second week I took off work and watched TV and went walking. Now I am at 10 mg in 1 month. Social anxiety gone, plan to increase to 15 mg."

Citalopram for Depression "I have been on Celexa for about 15 years and it's great. The only symptoms at first were dry mouth and yawning, which eventually went away. I tried about 2 years ago to wean myself off with my doctor's help, and I had a horrible relapse, so I am going to stay on Celexa as long as my doctor allows me. I actually feel normal all the time and very balanced."

Citalopram for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "This medicine is great. It has changed the way I feel on a daily basis. Every month about 1 week before my period, all my muscles would hurt as if I was lifting heavy weights. I do work out but not hard enough to be that sore all week. I talked to my doctor and found out that I had PMDD. I was always in a bad mood and little things at home would just set me off, but thanks to the combination of both, I feel a lot better about myself and am always in a great mood. When I first started the Celexa, I was always tired but now I have more energy. I have not had any issues with any of the medicine."

Citalopram for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I have been taking Celexa due to many stressful events that made my anxiety almost unbearable. Tough financial times, stress at work, three miscarriages, being away from family, etc. My list is huge. I was surprised I lasted this long without medication. I always tried to convince myself that I could control the panic, fear, stress, and sad feelings, etc. Exercise helped, but I finally decided to get help. I hate the feeling of always being worried, always going to worst-case scenarios, feeling out of place, fearful of even driving, and the unbearable anxiety of trying to conceive again after my traumatic experiences. Anyway, I was prescribed 20 mg of Celexa. Going on week 2 and I hope this is my answer. Already feeling better, with no side effects except yawning."

For Panic Disorder "I’m 46, and I’ve taken citalopram before (many years ago) for anxiety/depression. This time I struggled with side effects for several weeks (mainly tiredness). But after persevering for 3 months, I’m in a much better place. I feel positive-like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I can handle things that used to drag me down. I still get negative thoughts, but not as regularly, and when I do, I take it in my stride. I’m more relaxed generally and haven’t had any panic attacks... it’s a revelation. If you are considering taking this drug, then all I can say is try to persevere for a few weeks. You have to give it time to bed in. I’ve wanted to throw the towel in a few times, but stuck with it, and life is so much better now. Now that I have my mojo back, I am looking forward to things... I actually want to see people and feel motivated to exercise again (which I always find a great mood booster). If you are reading this... I wish you peace of mind. Take care x"

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "I started taking Celexa for anxiety and bad stress. My BP was rising very high and I couldn't sleep much. I'm now only on my 7th dose of 10 mg, and I feel tired, but I'm giving this new med time to work. It took me 6 months to safely get off of Xanax my doc put me on after an injury which caused much stress. My BP is now back to normal, and I feel good, a little tired, but unlike other reviews I've read, I don't eat as much and now am losing weight. But yes, I also 'hopefully just for now' have lost some interest in sex, and I'm a male, and it's harder to climax. Think it will all get better, but so far, this is a good med for me."

For Panic Disorder "This medication has changed my life. Honestly, I've suffered with panic disorder for years, and I've always had general anxiety too. At the start of the year, my panic attacks were happening several times a day, and I was very suicidal. My mum and nan are both on citalopram (Celexa) and recommended it to me. Not gonna lie, the first and second week was hard (started on 20 mg) as my anxiety was heightened, my panic attacks were worse, and I felt shattered all the time. But I'm now on week 4, and *touch wood*, I haven't had a panic attack in almost 2 weeks, I no longer feel anxious, and if I do start to feel anxious, I can quickly get myself out of it. Highly recommend for anyone that is a sufferer. This medication is my freedom."

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "Did some yawning in the first week and then my libido started to diminish. After two weeks, my yawning went away and was replaced with clarity and a clear mind. The unfortunate downside at 20 mg after two weeks was absolute zero libido, I couldn't have an erection. It's too bad because it's a very effective medicine otherwise. I've switched to Wellbutrin, haven't started it, going through a one-week wash-off from Celexa."

For Depression "I have been taking Citalopram for the past 2 years and it has been a miracle for me. I was severely depressed, to the point of being suicidal and constantly punishing myself. The first months were tough to get used to the numbness and the tiredness, but the changes in my brain were amazing and I was myself again. This medication allowed me to bond with my newborn, to get out of bed, to have a job again. I know that medication doesn't suit everyone, but I'll recommend giving it a try. After 2 years I'm off it, after slowly leaving the medication (from 20 to 10 to 0). I hope that everyone is helped by medication and has a good life."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I would just like to say that these reviews can seem scary to someone. I thought the same after reading them. I decided to go ahead anyway with the citalopram. Started on 10 mg, then 20 mg, and now 40 mg. These do make a great difference. In terms of side effects, it wasn't bad for me. I found I was tired during the day and always kept yawning lots. Had an odd sensation in my head for the first few days. Apart from those symptoms, I was fine."

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "I was prescribed Celexa a week ago. At first, I had trouble sleeping, horrible headaches, and was very tired during the day, but now I'm starting to sleep better and not be as tired during the day. I also find myself not being as stressed out. I hope to see more results."

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "First 2 days were euphoric and nothing could upset me. Then got more irritable and anxious. Stomach in knots. Then came depression and thoughts of suicide, along with anxiety. Yawning all the time. This is day 7 and I left a message with my doctor this morning letting her know I couldn't feel like this for another week in hopes that it would possibly even out."

For Anxiety and Stress "I've been on this medication for around 3.5 weeks now, and the difference is amazing. Pros - My temper has calmed considerably, I don't feel foggy or anxious the whole time, I can sleep, and the most amazing thing is that the bulimia episodes have pretty much stopped altogether! Cons - I have pretty much no appetite to the extent that I remind myself to eat or I feel ill, a bit of dizziness, really tired the first couple of weeks, but now I feel like I have lots of energy, upset stomach a few times. It's only early days, but I'm actually laughing and feel human again! I'm hoping that these help me to resolve issues going forward."

For Anxiety and Stress "My doctor prescribed citalopram to deal with my anxiety. After nearly 2 weeks of taking them, I'm feeling a lot less stressed and calmer with everyday life and children (girls 15 & 9). The only downside I've experienced is that I am quite lethargic/sleepy, but that may be due to me being off work and having that chilling out time on my own at home. Citalopram has definitely put me back on track in my own frame of mind."

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "I started taking Celexa about 1 1/2 weeks ago, started at 10 mg and upped to 20 three days ago. I had been on Zoloft prior for about 5 years, but it stopped working. I was off of it for about 2 months before starting Celexa. Experiencing an increase of anxiety, tiredness, and an overall sense of exhaustion. Does it get better? Will these side effects go away eventually? My doctor said the increased anxiety is not caused by the meds. Yes, I was anxious and needed something, but my anxiety is much higher since taking the meds, so I don't necessarily believe the doctor 100%. I want to stop taking it, but I also want to feel 'normal,' and I know these meds can be very helpful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I have been on this drug for years. I am currently on 20 mg daily. From what I remember when I first started taking it, my only symptom was feeling tired, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I don't have any side effects from it now. It does help with my anxiety and irritability. The only downfall it has is that if I forget a pill (I take it in the morning), I get sick as a dog with nausea and vomiting. Other than that, I totally recommend it, I feel like it's one of the less intense mood meds out there."

Citalopram for Depression "This med has helped me (male, 50) considerably to deal with depression and panic attacks. I experienced the usual side effects of night sweating and still have some occasional sweaty palms and some yawning. After beginning, my depression initially got worse, but 8 weeks later, I feel better balanced. I switched to taking the med after dinner. I tried 40mg with no additional benefits, only more tired, then back to 20mg. It does take several weeks to reach effectiveness, so be patient if you don't feel immediate improvement."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "After 8 weeks, side effects have reduced. Energy levels have increased weekly. Take 10 mg in the morning, and it has made a big difference. My worry and anxiety have gone, and I'm enjoying life. It’s great to enjoy the moment without constant anxiety. I should have done it 35 years ago, as I was trying to manage life without help. Bad mistake. I get mild effects like tiredness, but it's manageable as the advantages far outweigh any negatives."

For Anxiety and Stress "Started citalopram Teva 2 weeks ago for depression and anxiety. Had very little side effects. Had been feeling so anxious and sad with terrible palpitations for about a month beforehand. Minor side effects for first week. Lost appetite. Tiredness, yawning, and not having much sleep. After 10 days, I could feel such a difference. Mood lifted, appetite much improved, palpitations stopped. Now, 2 weeks later, I feel so good I'm even sleeping much better. Doctor said I should continue it for six months, and I definitely will."

Citalopram for Depression "I suffer from PTSD and severe chronic depression. I have been on multiple medications, taking 10-12 pills a day. My doctor recommended Celexa for depression as well as my anxiety, and guess what. I am now on 4 pills a day: Celexa for depression, Klonopin for my anxiety attacks, Ambien to help me sleep, and Prazosin to keep my nightmares at bay. Celexa works for me amazingly, it has calmed me down some, and I used to just burst out in tears at the simplest things because they reminded me of my past. Not anymore. Although I have it a 9 and not a 10 because the first couple of weeks are rough. I was very, VERY lethargic and sleepy, and I was still having mood swings, which got a little worse. I stuck with it, and it changed me."
