Citalopram for Depression "Helps post-traumatic stress disorder that has turned into chronic depression and irritability. Side effects are nausea, appetite gain, and tiredness, in my case, but I also have hypothyroidism and clogged arteries. Helps enough to be worth it for good in my case."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I'm on day 3 of taking citalopram medication for my anxiety. The first two days, I felt calmer, had the odd side effects: nausea, runs, dry mouth, difficulty falling asleep. But day 3, I've felt anxious (all day). This is a side effect, the doctor did tell me to expect things to get worse before they get better. I'm hoping things look up and I can free the anxiety."

For Anxiety and Stress "Used citalopram a couple of years ago, and it worked wonders. Cannot honestly remember side effects but was in a bad way emotionally, so maybe didn't notice them. Just been put back on it, reaching the end of week 2, and side effects week 1 were horrendous. Tired, anxious, insomnia, nausea, shakes - you name it, I seemed to have it. Most of the side effects have now passed, still the occasional dry/funny taste in my mouth, and today I feel terrible. Anxious in the mornings, but feel it's a bit more manageable. Still got insomnia, waking every 2-3 hours, and increased urination, so hoping this wears off soon as time goes on."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "Been suffering from general anxiety/social anxiety and acute OCD. Never been on any medication before and decided it was time to see a doctor to treat the anxiety. In the first week, I had no side effects at all and felt fine. After this week, I had a week booked off work and stupidly decided to drink about 5 times throughout this week, quite heavily. The day after stopping drinking, I felt really anxious and shaky, which was fairly usual for me. Then the day after this, I had 3 days of nausea, tremors, sweating, tiredness. On the fourth day, I began to feel slightly better and began to get my appetite back. By week 3, I feel really good at the moment, no anxiety, although I do have racing thoughts. Would not drink heavily using this medication."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "After suffering from generalized anxiety disorder, I took Celexa. I had horrible side effects: didn’t want to leave bed, nausea, diarrhea, stomach pains, feeling like I’m losing control, anxiety attacks daily, dizziness, no energy, no appetite (lost 15 lbs). The most concerning side effect was that this medication made me depressed. Mind you, I’ve never had depression in my whole life, and the purpose of me taking this drug was to combat my anxiety. I’ve been taking it for 2 months, and my psychiatrist said it’s reached its “full potential.” I gave this a 3/10 because at the 7-week mark, I had a couple average days. Average days really aren’t enough, though, to live a meaningful and happy life. A lot of doctors say that at the two-month mark, you’ll feel better, and that’s not always true. Things got worse for me on these meds. Wishing everyone who reads this all the love in the world and just know that things WILL get better, whether Celexa or another pill helps!"

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "Currently on week 2 of my experience with Celexa to treat generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and depression. The first couple of days were absolutely terrible due to side effects (nausea, insomnia, headache, flu-like symptoms, and a huge increase in my depression). Don't know why I had such a severe reaction to the medication right off the bat since I've heard this is one of the more tolerant SSRIs in terms of side effects. But after a few days, my system normalized, and I'm already starting to feel like myself again. The doctor said it could take up to 4-6 weeks for it to fully be in effect, but I find myself sleeping through the night and waking up with a much more positive attitude and not on edge with anxiety like I had been in the past. So far, so good!"

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "I recently started Celexa, my doctor told me to start with 10 mg for a week, then go up to 20 mg. I noticed a difference with the very first pill, I felt more anxiety and severe nausea. I kept taking the pills, and it got worse with every dose. I couldn't leave my house or bed, it made everything worse. My doctor said to keep taking them, so I did. Six days later, I couldn't take it anymore, so I stopped, and the withdrawal side effects are just as bad: extreme nausea and excessive anxiety, it's been a terrible roller coaster ride. After not being on it for a week, I'm finally starting to feel better."

For Anxiety and Stress "Life-changing medication. I was struggling with anxiety and mild depression for months since the major breakup, and I'm so happy I found this. My life has completely transformed. I became more outgoing, relaxed, content, brave, and more able to do things I was too afraid to do before. It felt like I was seeing the rainbow for the first time in a long time. Miracle drug. I started on 10 mg and switched up to 20 mg in a couple of weeks. It took about 4 weeks to work fully. Very mild side effects, such as feeling more sleepy and mild nausea in the beginning, side effect-free after a week. Also, I still feel slightly more sleepy in general. If you are reading this and considering taking the medication, please try it! It can change your life completely. I don't know why people have negative opinions on antidepressants when in reality they make a huge difference."

For Depression "Best thing I've had! The side effects were pretty bad in the first week (anxiety, low mood, fatigue but can't sleep, hot sweats), but 4 weeks later I feel great! Please don't let the side effects put you off, I was anxious to take them as I have really bad emetophobia and was worried about the nausea, but once it passes, it's great. So glad I stuck to it! The only negative is that I've had such bizarre dreams since taking this medication, but it's fun to laugh at the next day! Stay strong, everyone!"

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "Was put on this for depression/anxiety, and it was a disaster! About 40 minutes after I took it, I started to feel very nauseous and had bad diarrhea. I also felt very hot and had a lot of anxiety (more anxiety than I had in the first place). Later on, I noticed it made me yawn quite a bit, and each time I yawned, my jaw would stay clenched for a couple of seconds before it would relax again. I only took it for one day, and almost 2 days later, I am still having some nausea, yawning, and burping a lot. According to the other reviews, it seems like it either works for you or it doesn't. I am obviously not one of the people it works for!"

For Anxiety and Stress "Only five days in. So still feeling the initial side effects. Dizzy, headache, nauseous. But changed from morning to nighttime last night and must say feel somewhat better for it. I've read all of these reviews and find most of them positive. So I'm hopeful after a few weeks I'll start to feel a bit like my old self again. Been suffering for 7 years and decided that enough was enough."

For Anxiety and Stress "I started citalopram about 2 years ago. I was always on edge. Everything made me mad and stressed out. I started on 20 mg. I had a hard time with it at first. It made me clench my jaw and my hands. I felt like I was in a fog. It took about 6 weeks before all the bad symptoms went away. I am so happy that I stuck it out. I handle situations better, I have never been happier. I just started on 40 mg now, and I will say it makes me a little nauseous. The only downside is that it makes me have a low libido. I will never go without this drug. I just wish I would have had it many years before."

For Depression "WOW! Started taking it four years ago, and it helped me within a week. Recently, I just had a tough time and upped my dosage from 20 to 30 mg. Within one week, I started to feel better. My side effects are always based on a nauseous feeling that goes away roughly a week or so after (drinking milk with the pill seems to knock the side effects out). Each day, you will begin to feel better!"

For Anxiety and Stress "I have recently been in and out of the hospital 4 times, not knowing what was wrong with me. All physical tests normal, I've been suffering panic attacks and anxiety. Brought on by a combination of events: my dad and dog passing away and COVID. I left the hospital Monday and was started on 10 mg citalopram and 8 mg x 3 a day betahistine for dizziness. I'm on day 4, and it's been really hard. Anxiety is still through the roof, cannot function, sweating, headaches, nausea, eyes not focusing. I've been told to stick at it as it gets easier. At the moment, it's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Just hoping there is some improvement soon."

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "I have taken several medicines for depression and anxiety in the past. None have worked and would cause me to have terrible insomnia at night. Celexa has been great. At first, I experienced dizziness and was very sleepy. I also had nausea and GI upset. After a week, the side effects went away. I feel more relaxed and do not worry about things that used to stress me out. I sleep great at night. I take 10 mg at night. I am so glad I tried this medicine."

Citalopram for Depression "I felt compelled to write a review on my experience. I'm into the second week of this drug, and it's been a miracle. I started at 10 mg for a week and increased to 20 mg in the second week. The first two days were rough, felt like the flu and increased depression and anxiety. After a week, I woke up with energy and no negative thoughts. Prior to this, I woke up not wanting to live and dragging myself out of bed. I was plagued with negative thoughts, I was in a deep fog and struggled cognitively. Now, in my week two on Celexa, I feel great. I'm also taking 5 mg of Trazodone for sleep, which also causes me to feel nauseous for the first few weeks. Everything is balanced out, and I'm back to being me again! I wish anyone reading this lots of love and hope."

For Depression "I started on citalopram 3 days ago. Day 1 was the worst! 3 hours after taking the pill, I was sick a few times and felt dizzy and tired. I went to work that night feeling drained, and every time I blinked, I thought I was going to fall asleep! Day 2 I was skeptical at whether I wanted to take it again. But I did. I was absolutely fine, just felt a little tired and nauseous. Day 3 I started grinding my teeth hard without realizing, and my heart beat kept going fast, but it was okay because my mind was blank. I didn't feel anything. I wasn't hurting, I wasn't sad, I wasn't angry, and things that normally anger me just didn't bother me. I could go out into the world with the humans and didn't feel paranoid or embarrassed."

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "I took this Celexa about 15 years ago for depression and stayed on it for about 3 years. At first, it made me a little sleepy, but that went away after a couple of weeks. The only side effect was it made it very difficult to ejaculate. I stopped taking it because I started to feel too chilled out/apathetic. I cut my dosage down to half for about a week and quit. No side effects at all. Now I'm 49 and started taking it again for stress/anxiety. The first two days started with 5 mg, then I upped it to 10 mg. By about the 6th day, I was feeling mild nausea and some dizziness. The 7th/8th day was terrible-hot flashes, anxiety, nausea-I had to take Xanax and Zofran. Then, by the 10th day, I felt a change-almost like a light switched. I'm thinking, ok, this is working now! I still feel a little nausea, but my mood has improved. I'm also feeling the difficulty with ejaculation. I'm not sure if the side effects are due to my age now or what, but I was surprised since I didn't have them in the past."

For Borderline Personality Disorder "I have dosed at 20 mg and 10 mg, and I've found that 10 mg works best for me. I started taking citalopram after getting divorced to deal with anxiety (I have PTSD, and my ex exacerbated this with stalking). If I take it on an empty stomach, it can give me nausea, but a banana or something simple fixes this. It will give me a mild headache about an hour after taking, but that doesn't last long. I do not take any other meds or herbs. I am a white female over 50. On 20 mg, I felt so 'relaxed' I tended to spend money I shouldn't. I dosed down to keep that in check. It helps me manage single parenting stress and reduces angry reactions in stressful situations. Other than the light headaches and mild temporary nausea, no other side effects."

For Depression "I have been on citalopram for a number of years (since 2011?). I have had nothing but positive things to say when I am on the medication. I was diagnosed with depression in the spring of 2009, and tried a few different antidepressants. Each one had some scary effects. I was placed on citalopram after the third antidepressant didn't work, and it has been good. I still have anxiety attacks on occasion, but overall am stable and healthy and learning other coping skills for my anxiety and depression. Missing doses, though, leads to increased anxiety (duh!), nausea, dizziness, racing heart, trouble sleeping, irritability, and some disorientation. Overall, I am thankful for citalopram."

Citalopram for Anxiety and Stress "I've had panic attacks since 8th grade. I'm 28 now and notice my anxiety about having a panic attack was getting overwhelming. I started to notice I was avoiding situations. I'm a full-time student and work part-time. I need to do many speeches, and I would worry about speeches from the time they were assigned. I've been on citalopram 20 mg for 2.5 weeks. I have no panic attacks, and I have done two speeches with no issues! Side effects of nausea with yawning and sleepiness, but those go away (1.5 weeks), then I noticed the change! Wish I started sooner."
