"Citalopram is the best antidepressant for me. Helps in sadness, emotional (unnecessary) feelings, low energy, mood issues, overthinking, panic, anxiety, and appetite problems. Starts working from dose 1 and continues to get better and better. Side effects I get: increased sweating in the first 3 days, increased thirst, a bit of restlessness (as mood starts to improve), and often occurring stomach acidity (but very slight). Thanks to Almighty Allah, who privileged us with citalopram. My dose is 20 mg."

"I have Major Depressive Disorder and have struggled with suicidal thoughts since second grade (I am now 21). Even at the beginning of this year, I almost took my life. Getting on citalopram has changed my life. I am happy and thriving, which is so crazy, but hey, I’m not complaining! I am the top of my class in school and am working two jobs while attending school full time. I have never felt happier. This is a miracle drug, I swear. I am on 20 mg. The only side effect I have is extremely vivid dreams, sometimes good, sometimes bad. But they are so, so real, and I can control them. I feel all physical sensation as well. And this is every night. At first, it was terrifying, but I have grown to love escaping into my head and having a fun little second life when I am asleep. It took some adjusting to, but I don’t mind it now. Overall though, being this level of happy and just having to deal with some crazy dreams? Hey, I’ll take it. I’d recommend this to anyone depressed!"

"I struggled with depression most of my life. I was prescribed citalopram in my early 20s and then in my late 30s. The first time, it had a tremendous effect. It took a few months to develop its full activity, but then it allowed me to enjoy life and engage socially. Side effects were mild, with some sexual side effects, sleeping problems, and emotional blunting. After a year, I stopped taking the citalopram, hoping that I would not need it anymore. Despite reducing the dose gradually, the withdrawal was horrible. Besides the electric shock symptoms, I struggled with hypersomnia for more than a year. The second time, the experience was less positive. Citalopram helped me to be more emotionally stable and gave me energy, but the effect was not very strong. Side effects (sexual, restless legs, insomnia) were more pronounced than the first time. I stopped citalopram after 6 months with only a little withdrawal. I owe citalopram the best year of my life, for which I am very grateful."

"I have been taking citalopram for 5 years and have had no side effects. My sister and niece take the same thing (and same dose) and swear it makes them sleepy. As for yawning, as another person mentioned, I start yawning every evening at 8 pm, regardless of whether I'm tired or not. I've done this long before I ever started taking citalopram, so I can probably say for sure it's not because of the medication. I have very little to no yawning during the day. Ninety percent of the time, if I yawn during the day, it's because someone in the house has yawned or I see it on TV, and it makes me yawn. I also take an antidepressant at night, one which helps me sleep, so between the two, it pretty much keeps me stable."
