Carvedilol "I have been taking this since my heart attack in March 2010. I have had leg muscle issues (pain) since the beginning. My doctor seems to think the benefit is greater than the pain. I disagree and am about to stop it no matter what my doctor says."

"I was on Bystolic for several years with no side effects. BCBS stopped paying so I had to go on Coreg. This is a horrible drug. It causes me to be disoriented, dizzy, lightheaded, and nauseous. I feel bad all the time!"

Carvedilol "I have been taking Cozaar 50 mg a day combined with Coreg 25 mg 2x daily for about 10 years. My blood pressure was 200/120. About 2 years ago Coreg CR 20mg replaced the Coreg daily. This regimen slowly reduced my BP to 100/60. This BP was too low so I stopped the Coreg CR completely. I am now on Cozaar 50 mg 1 per day and my BP is averaging 125/60-70."

"Ruined everything! After being healthy and taking Zestril for 25 years for moderate blood pressure, the doctor suggested I try Coreg! Within 6-8 weeks, I passed out face down while golfing with friends! I would pass out in my chair several times a day?!! Only two months before, I visited the Napa wine country with my son and wife. My wife was in a wheelchair, and I pushed her all through the airport, lifted luggage, ate whatever I wanted, salt was not a restriction!!! Coreg changed all this! After 8 weeks, I ended up developing bradycardia! (Slow heartbeat) I could not ever get it into the pressure back! Now they tell me I have developed amyloidosis(? I feel that slowing my heart rate had something to do with this, no matter what they say!"

"I was on this for a month. I also have COPD. I have been getting weak, couldn't walk farther than a few steps without having to rest and totally exhausted about an hour after taking this medicine. Dr. thought my COPD was getting worse but couldn't control it. I remembered I started feeling this way right after being switched from Metoprolol to this medicine. I refused to take it again and after missing two doses, I can breathe and walk again. Back on Metoprolol."

"Over the last months, my pharmacy changed from a brand I liked (white oval) to a brand that makes me feel 'off.' The newer brand is a round white tablet. I checked online to compare the inactive ingredients and found that the new brand has sodium lauryl sulfate, corn starch, and microcrystalline cellulose amongst all the other common inactive ingredients. I'm searching for another pharmacy that has generic carvedilol with similar inactive ingredients to the former white oval 12.5 mg carvedilol."

"Been taking carvedilol 6.25 mg twice a day for years! Due to elevated BP numbers, Dr. changed dosage to 12.5 in AM and 6.35 in PM. BP is now extremely high in the evenings! I’m convinced the ingredients are now different! Manufacturer says Mylan,? Have been to Drs, trips to ER, scans, MRI, all OK, so I’m convinced high BP caused by medicine! HELP!"

"I have been on carvedilol twice a day, 25 mg. Lisinopril 20 mg once a day. My blood pressure can go to 235 over 110. I have A-Fib...a mitral valve leak...and a 4.2 bulge in my ascending aorta. Then came the tongue movements and facial movements. I was flailing my arms all over the place. Went to my neurologist and then a second neurologist. Both tried to tell me I had conversion disorder...idiopathic, they said to me. Needless to say, I was annoyed...so I quit taking my medications and said screw it. Two days later, guess what? All the movements came to a screeching halt. So I figure...let's see if carvedilol is causing it first. I take 25 mg....and within an hour...I'm flapping like a bird again. So I discontinue that and wait till Sunday, March 11, 2018, and try lisinopril. Fifty minutes later, I'm moving all over again. These two drugs can cause myoclonic jerks and dyskinesias that you wouldn't believe. I've suffered through 7 months of this rubbish."

"I was on atenolol for a year, 25 mg PRN for palpitations. Then I felt like crap without it. I started experiencing more palpitations, and the doctor put me on it twice a day. After a bout with ED, I asked to be put on something else, but the doctor didn't budge. I was diagnosed with mild aortic valve regurgitation. A new doctor reluctantly switched me to Coreg 12.5, twice a day. No longer experiencing ED, but it makes my heart rate go from 72 with blood pressure 126/69 at rest to 50 with blood pressure raised to 149/78 with that low a pulse. Horrible bouts of light-headedness, subdermal rashes that won't go away, 50 pounds gained with even more exercise and a closely monitored diet than before, and blood pressure that will not stay regulated. I never had high blood pressure before getting on beta blockers. Stay away unless absolutely necessary!"

"I've been taking carvedilol for three months. It works really well for my extremely high blood pressure. I have experienced rapid weight gain, but I can't be completely sure if the carvedilol is to blame as I am on other medications. It causes sudden dizziness even without standing up too quickly. I'm going to try something else because of the rapid weight gain and out-of-nowhere dizziness. I gave it a 7 rating because it works well in lowering my stubborn high blood pressure."

"I have slightly elevated BP. My Dr. prescribed carvedilol 6.25 mg twice/day. I’ve been taking it for about 2 months, and nothing good has come of it. I’ve gained almost 20 lbs, and I feel like EVERYTHING irritates me. I’m typically a tall, thin, happy person, but since this medicine, I don’t recognize myself in any way. I look/feel like a puffy, mean, and terrible person. I just want everyone to leave me alone! I HAVE NEVER been like this in my life! IF the medicine was doing ANYTHING good… I wouldn’t post this, but it’s doing the opposite of good quality of life. It’s a poison pill! I know everyone says not to just STOP taking it, but I can’t put this in my body anymore. I'm done! Wish me luck!"

"Placed on carvedilol 12.5 mg bid. Side effects got progressively worse even with decreasing dose. By the end of 9 months, I was on 3.25 mg twice daily and had missed 2 weeks of work, was nauseated, had diarrhea, vomiting, strange thoughts, anxious, scared to death of any noise, lost 28 lbs, throat and chest pain, and did not have enough energy to get out of bed. On the positive side, my BP went from 173/103 to 112/74 with a pulse in the 40 to 50 range. I have been off of it for about 2 days, and although I had a BP spike, many of the side effects are mitigating. May be great for some, but I am thankful for being off of it."

"My high blood pressure started getting bad in the last year. Dr. tried 2 different meds and they almost killed me. But I was desperate to feel better and tried again. Dr. gave me carvedilol 6.25 mg BID. The first dose made me dizzy for about 45 min. The 2nd dose did nothing! The next day, nothing again. Still felt weak, shaky, dizzy, ED, no motivation, sleeping way too much. Day 3 (without doctor's permission), I doubled the dose to 12.5 mg BID (twice daily). And wow, BP dropped from 185/112 to 124/78 after one hour, and I feel like I'm 35 again-happy, strong, active, and my girlfriend is very happy if you know what I mean. Dizziness is gone, and so far (1 month), I have not noticed any side effects. It really helped me!"

"I had been put on carvedilol, along with valsartan 160/25. It worked for blood pressure, however, my cardiologist advised me that it was a significant contributor to my erectile dysfunction. After various trials in dosage, we eliminated carvedilol altogether and went to Bystolic with good blood pressure results and no erectile dysfunction complications. Carvedilol may be good for those with actual heart problems, but just for control of blood pressure, we found a great substitute without all the side effects."

Carvedilol "I'm now taking carvedilol 25 mg/2X after going through a 1/2 dozen other meds. It seems to stabilize my BP at 120-70, but all the beta blockers seem to cause side effects. On this drug, I have terrible itching, difficulty swallowing, and sneezing. The first side effect may be coming from something else and is under review. The middle one may also be coming from something else too, but I see 'tracheal restriction' as one of the side effects. The sneezing is 4-6 times per day. Years back, I was on another drug that caused all kinds of problems, and my kidneys were discovered to have been damaged. Again, how do you know where these things come from? I wish I could get off these meds with some OTC treatments. I've tried beet juice and was in a trial on that awful tasting juice, but it's easier as a pill."

"I have been taking carvedilol for two years in addition to another HBP medicine. My blood pressure readings are mostly high. I take my BP reading after resting from walking two miles, and it is still high. I go to my appointments and get a reading there, and my BP is high. I don't know what the benefits are of taking carvedilol."

"I had 6 months of extreme anxiety, weird body responses, heart pounding, and terrible insomnia. The medical world started to label me as a hysterical patient. After doing my own research, I discovered all of these were side effects from carvedilol. After 1 week without it, most side effects are gone or seldom, and my mind is clearing up from being foggy and confusing. It was a very difficult time for me and my husband, primarily with the multiple ER visits but also the cost involved in those trips, as well as a sleep study, which was horrible. I switched to a Chinese herb remedy. My blood pressure is even better than with Western medicine."

"Since being put on 6 months ago (severe, resistant hypertension), along with diet and exercise, I have lost 60 lbs, and my heart rate is usually in the mid-40s to low 50s when at complete rest (evenings) and in the high 50s to low 60s during the day. I have experienced no negative side effects. Drowsiness was present for the first week or two, but after that, I adjusted and feel no side effects. The most important thing - if you are doing aerobic exercise while on this medication, DO NOT USE A HEART MONITOR, as it does reduce heart rate. Normal heart rate ranges while on this medication do not apply and can cause damage if you attempt to reach the normal 180 bpm. Consult a physician for activity restrictions while taking carvedilol."

Carvedilol "I experienced extreme depression after I started this medication at 25 mg per day. I never had depression before. The doctor said it would go away. It did not, and I demanded that a different medication be prescribed. Depression is an unacceptable side effect."

"I've been taking carvedilol for 2 months. Lost 15 pounds, cold hands and feet, anxiety and nervousness, had stomach pain. I called my doctor to get me off this medication. It's been 3 weeks and still suffering from anxiety and nervousness and want to know when it will end."

"Been taking 12.5 mg BID for months now. No change in BP, it still soars to 190/115 at times. Finally, after months, I got my PCP to recommend a cardiologist. Will see what they say this week and get back with another review! Worthless medication, wondering how it got approved by the FDA?"

"Started on carvedilol 6.25 mg 3 weeks ago. Have had serious issues with dizziness, nausea, and severe pressure in the back of my head and neck. When I am lying down, the pressure is not as bad, but if I am trying to read anything, the pressure gets severe."

"I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. During a routine medical appointment, it was discovered that I had a left ventricular disorder. I was taken off Indapamide 1 mg, which I had no side effects from. Then I was prescribed Carvedilol, first at 3.25 mg, then increased to 6.25 mg, and my Indapamide was stopped. Since taking this new medication, I have started to notice pains in my left leg, i.e., joint pains and stiffness. My right leg, my foot, and ankle are swollen, and due to the stiffness, it feels very tight and difficult to walk on. I have concerns that Carvedilol has upset my normal function within my body, and I am seeking to be taken off of it."

"Been taking carvedilol for 2 weeks, and BP is still high, range between 190/100. Dr. says give it time - how much time? I also take amlodipine, been on that for years and did great, BP stayed at 121/80. I want to stop taking carvedilol, but scared something might happen. I have had triple bypass in 2005 when my echocardiogram was a little abnormal. The cardiovascular dr put me on carvedilol, BP has been staying high ever since. This medication does not help."

"Have used carvedilol for several years for high blood pressure. The original manufacturer's medication worked well. The pharmacy is now unable to get it from the same manufacturer due to backorders, so I was given a 3-month supply by a different manufacturer. Felt unwell for 3 months taking carvedilol from the last manufacturer. Changed to a third manufacturer and noticed I do not have the side effects I did with the second manufacturer. My symptoms with the second manufacturer script were problems with exacerbated neuropathy, some walking difficulties, leg cramps, breathing issues, and exacerbated upper right abdominal quadrant pain. I have been on the third manufacturer's script for a week now and already feel better. Since nothing else changed, it may be the reason why I feel better than I have for 3 months."
