For Anxiety "I tried buspirone for about 5 weeks. Started with 5 mg twice a day. That dose increased my anxiety. Cut down to 5 mg once a day. Even with that dose, my anxiety did not improve, and it just made me feel weird. Perhaps your experience would be better, as everyone reacts differently to medication. I will warn you that the withdrawal symptoms are horrible if you decide to stop, even after a short amount of time. The drug did not work for me and made me feel horrible."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I've been on BuSpar for about 2 months now, and it's not helping enough. I'm at the max dose 3 times daily. My anxiety causes me to feel severely nauseated, like I will throw up, and I've tried so many medications hoping it can stop that anxiety symptom. I really thought the buspirone was going to be my savior since I've read so many great reviews on it. I admit I do feel a little bit calmer, but I still can't get rid of the feeling like I will vomit whenever I have to go out in public or have a mutual conversation with someone. It just sucks because I feel like there's no medication that can stop that nausea, and I feel so helpless."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I started out taking 2 doses of 5 mg a day. The first few days, I did notice a little mood boost, but it didn’t last long. We raised my dose 5 more mg (15 mg a day) and same thing, but it went away. Didn’t help with my panic or separation anxiety. Did help with depersonalization. It made me tired, nauseous, and gave diarrhea the first couple of days. Those went away after that, but it did give me a weird feeling about 45 minutes after taking each dose. I tapered off after 2-3 months."

For Anxiety "Just started buspirone 10 mg twice a day. For years, I have been on Celexa, bupropion, and clonazepam. Those three worked for me, but my doc suggests that instead of taking clonazepam daily, I should try buspirone for long-term use and clonazepam for when my panic attacks are truly out of control. So far, the drug combination has had no major negative interactions. I take the buspirone with food. The first two days in, I had pretty bad headaches. About two weeks in now, and tonight I'm having severe dizziness, which is making me nauseous. I'm definitely going to keep going on them, though. I love my clonazepam (Klonopin). It's almost instant relief during an attack, but after reading about it extensively and talking with my two docs, I'm ready to get off of it."

Buspirone for Anxiety "Okay, so BuSpar was the first medicine I took, and it helped with my anxiety tremendously, but the side effects sucked. I'm a female and only weigh about 115, so I'm not sure if that's why the side effects impacted me so much or what. The first day I was on it, I was fine. The only problem was I felt a little dizzy after the first 10 minutes of taking it, but then I was fine, and I would go about my regular day, and I felt amazing. I took this pill every day for about 4 days and felt fine, but then one day after I took it, I was so dizzy, I could barely stand up, and then I felt nauseous all day long. It was not fun. So it's kind of a hit or miss with this medicine. You either take it and feel fine, or you'll have bad side effects. At least for me anyways."

For Anxiety "I started off on 1/2 buspirone pill of 10 mg for the first 4 days and increased every 4 days until I was on a dose of 2 full pills per day. I was feeling good on 1/2 pill twice per day, but any more than that would give me severe nausea. I’d taken Dramamine, but it didn’t help most of the time. Sometimes this drug makes my anxiety worse. However, it did help decrease paranoia that I get when smoking marijuana. I’m currently on 1/2 pill every 6 hours, and I feel as though it’s still not enough, but more of it would make me nauseated. I think I just need something else for the social anxiety/general anxiety."

Buspirone for Anxiety "This med is the only anti-anxiety med I can take in order to use a Rx sleep med. Once stable, I'll go off my current anti-anxiety med. - Initial side effects: sore throat, dizziness, feeling 'excited' (over-reacting), and bad nausea. As a result, my psychiatrist told me to stop my 3 weeks of 20 mg/day. My pharmacist concurred. Unfortunately, I listened. I had 2 days of migraines. Less than a day later, I was in the ER. 'Stiffness' of the legs...excruciating pain and could barely walk. I had 'pain...weakness in the hands and feet.' The pain in my hands was almost unbearable! I saw my PCP 4 days later. Still in horrible pain, she told me to go back to the 20 mg; my body was craving it. I felt relief, and within 2 weeks, I was fine. I'm still on 20 mg. I now have had depression for a few weeks. I'm continuing BuSpar so I can get a sleep med due to 40 years of insomnia."

For Anxiety "I've been on Buspar 15 days now. I can't say as of yet if it has helped a lot or not. It's not bad, but I have noticed certain things I go through that I'm not sure if it's side effects or just my anxiety. Like I feel drowsy about 30 minutes after. I've noticed a tingly or itchy sensation in my hands, feet, and arms (at different times). Also, more headaches than before I started Buspar. Lightheadedness, even though I've felt that way before taking it. Upset stomach or nausea. Sharp sensations in different places. Oh yes, and definitely noticed weird dreams. The reason I rate a five is that I do feel like it brings a calmness over me and my racing thoughts aren't so bad, and after the first week, I can see that it keeps me tired more, and I do sleep better."

For Anxiety "It's okay. Take 5 mg twice a day, and although it helped with my anxiety and depression, it's given me bad side effects like nausea and diarrhea. I've had diarrhea for a week now, and I've been going about 3-4 times every day. I don't know if I'll stay on it, but I certainly can't live in the bathroom either. I'm out of options for anxiety medication. These side effects are awful, especially if you have a very active job like I do and work in a factory. It's not fun."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I have really bad anxiety, and I've pretty much tried everything. I take Klonopin for panic attacks, and they work, but I needed something for daily issues. This medicine really worked, but, oh my God, I can't handle the side effects. Every day I have a migraine, or I'm nauseous, or puking."

For Anxiety "I've taken Buspirone HCL 7.5 mg for at least a month now, and it's made me feel sick to my stomach, sweaty, and gives me dry mouth. However, other people have seen a change in my personality in a positive way, even though I haven't noticed a big change yet. I don't like how it makes me feel physically, but my doctor said it could take months to get used to."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I'm 31-year-old female, and have been taking BuSpar for anxiety and panic for three months, and have decided to discontinue. It took roughly 3 weeks before I noticed a difference. I am slower to irritate, less agitated, and can better manage the constant nagging sensation of anxiety. I've been sleeping better, but really require a full night's sleep or else I'm drowsy all day. And I've been more at ease with new people. These changes have certainly been positive but minimal. Lately, every day, 2 times a day about 20 minutes after my dose (10mg twice a day) I would get a ringing headache, body shocks, and dizziness or nausea. I thought this would go away, but it hasn't, and it is getting to the point that my anxiety level is increasing."

Buspirone "BuSpar is great in managing anxiety attacks, as well as some panic disorders, but I can't tolerate it because each time I experience dizziness and motion sickness afterward, so I will have to stop it."

Buspirone for Anxiety "BuSpar does the job better than other medication so far. Everything else has made me feel worse. The first couple of times I took this medication, my heart rate increased, and I felt dizzy. This went away after a couple of days of taking it. It makes me sick to my stomach if I take it on an empty stomach, so I definitely recommend eating a meal right before you take a pill."

For Anxiety "I've been on buspirone for many years. I also take lamotrigine (Lamictil). I have less anxiety but a lot of social anxiety still. What I didn't connect, until reading a lot of fellow buspirone takers here, is that the faintness I get (feeling like I'll pass out if I don't sit) and also about every 3 months I get the dizziness. Sometimes when I lay down in bed, the ceiling looks like it's spinning wildly. I always have to bring snacks with me everywhere for those times of faintness. I thought they were just how I am normally. I'll have to check with my doctor. I'd have thought she'd have brought that up before :( I don't remember if I had the other symptoms some here mentioned, with the headaches and nausea. Too long ago."

For Anxiety "Today is the third day I've been on it and haven't taken today's dose yet. The first day I took it, I felt a little bit weird in my brain but felt great, the fogginess was gone. Second day, I hadn't had the chance to take it earlier in the day than before, felt weird in my brain for the first hour, then I felt like a million bucks. When I took it for the second time that day, I was almost sure it was 8 hours later. I felt like I was going to die: trembling, dizzy, nauseous. Everything was wrong. Then after a couple of hours, I felt like a million bucks. It just makes me suffer so bad for the first hour or two, then it's great. So I was wondering if yesterday I took my doses too close together? I just am scared that I'm going to end up having the first seizure of my life or something."

For Anxiety "My experience with buspirone is that it gave me horrible headaches, but on the occasions I don't get a headache, I REALLY like the way buspirone makes me feel - chill. I was on Zoloft and Lexapro, and all those did for me was make me nauseated. With buspirone, I would break the tablet into .5 and sometimes go up to 15, even with food and water intake. Anyone else who's had this experience with buspirone, please share your story, whether it's similar or different - would love the feedback. And anyone with the same headache side effects, how do you go about treating that? Also, if you've had success with taking buspirone and Xanax together or within the same day, please advise. Xo"

For Panic Disorder "I was worried because an ingredient is lactose, and I am lactose intolerant, but the doc said it would be fine, and it is. The problem is for an hour or so after taking it, I get bad brain 'zaps' and dizziness. Luckily, no bad nausea or anything, but the zaps are bothersome and would keep me from driving. I only take 5 mg at a time. This is unfortunate because I think it is helping my disorder (functional esophageal dysphagia/dyspepsia) it was prescribed for. I've had a little less stomach pain and trouble swallowing on it."

Buspirone for Panic Disorder "My panic disorder started very gradually. At first, it was a slight panic that lasted for a min or two when I was driving, then it slowly intruded into my life. At some worst points, I was unable to sleep for a week. I might be able to doze off for an hour or two, and then I'd wake up with a racing heart. BuSpar helped at first, I was only on 5 mg for five months, never went up in dose. After about 5 months, stressful events like job interviews pretty much made this med ineffective for me. I really liked this med as it had no side effects for me. No dizziness or nausea or 'brain zaps.' My doctor put me on Paxil instead. Just started it, but it seems to be working. My pulse is still about 20 beats above my normal rate, but it doesn't bother me."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I have recurring bouts with severe anxiety. Six weeks ago, I was put on 30 mg of BuSpar to be taken in the morning and at night. I got 'brain zaps' (similar to Paxil withdrawal) and nausea lasting about an hour after I took the medication. True to most other medicines for anxiety, I felt as though, overall, my level of anxiety increased over the first 2 weeks, although I would have periods where I was not anxious. After 2 weeks, the doctor raised my dose to 60 mg. I found it best to take 4 times a day because I definitely feel it wear off. While this has taken my overall anxiety from a 9 to a 7, it is still not enough."

For Anxiety "Well, I kinda came here for help to see if it was normal to feel nauseous and my stomach hurting and just feeling a little anxious. I just started today on 5 mg of this drug, and I’m only 18. My body feels very relaxed, and I feel kinda happy, but my stomach feels awful. Will this go away? Will I be okay?"

For Anxiety "I just started taking this medication a few days ago. I will write an update later as I give it more time. Thus far, my side effects have been a slight numbing of my mouth. I am extremely sensitive to medication, and this has happened with other meds I have taken, so I am not alarmed by this. I am taking it with food, and I do feel a bit of slight nausea and tiredness about an hour after taking it. I also feel a bit spaced, but I am hoping these will subside over time. It isn't anything unmanageable at this time. I am on a very low dose: 2.5 mg BID. It isn't what the doctor prescribed, but after talking with my pharmacist about my sensitivity to meds, he said I could build up to the dose. I was prescribed 5 mg BID to increase if needed."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I started this medication on a low, as needed, 5 mg dose back in August after I started a new job with a high level of stress. Taking it twice a day as needed worked for a while with no major side effects. Working this stressful job full time, classes, and being a newlywed young adult was taking its toll, and I finally had a nervous breakdown at work-uncontrollable sobbing, hyperventilating, the works. I went to the doctor, and we've upped it from 5 mg BID PRN to 15 mg twice daily. I'm currently taking 7.5 mg twice daily to get used to the increased dose. The only side effect I'm dealing with is nausea, but it goes away eventually."

For Anxiety "I’ve been on buspirone for one month, and prior to this, I’ve tried SSRIs, SNRIs, and antipsychotics - all of which created new mental health symptoms unrelated to what I was dealing with. Anyway, I finally went to try another drug for anxiety (I also have BPD, depression, and OCD). During the first month, I had side effects like dizziness, a bit of drowsiness, and a little nausea. Other than that, my symptom relief has been more than I have seen at any other point. My physical symptoms of anxiety, like sweating, shaky voice, stomach pain, and issues because of it are all gone. I will say that I am still a bit foggy, and that’s been, but after testing by not taking it for two days, I found that it was, in fact, working! This may not be a cure for everyone, but if you have had issues or have been treatment-resistant before, I would recommend trying this one out and testing it for yourself. Good luck!!"
