Buspirone for Anxiety "Female, 21 years old. I have had severe anxiety attacks for the past 2 years, OCD since I can remember, and feel like I can't breathe when I think about the what-ifs. I was on Prozac for a few months and absolutely loved it until I started grinding my teeth in my sleep. I tried the BuSpar. I've been on it for 2 1/2 weeks. It took most of my anxiety away, but I got so dizzy I couldn't stand it (15 mg). I started halving the pills, it still makes me dizzy. It gives me headaches and doesn't help with the stress or obsessive-compulsive disorder. My doctor is adding Paxil to the BuSpar, and hopefully, it'll help more."

For Anxiety "I recently started to use this drug, as I was diagnosed with a chronic illness and realized much of my pain was coming from anxiety. I have only been on it for a week, but I love it! I felt the effects the first day I took it. My doctor also told me that it is one of the safest out there and that he rarely even recommends benzos anymore due to this drug. I did get a little dizzy at first, so I started taking halves. Anxiety was beginning to take over my life, I was anxious about anxiety. I can say that this stuff actually works!!!!"

Buspirone for Anxiety "A little over 2 years ago, I started feeling anxiety thinking of bad things that would happen to me or my family. I would worry about these things every day, and then I would have trouble breathing, and it was all due to anxiety. My doctor prescribed BuSpar, and everything went away. I felt normal and stress-free, and the feelings I had went away. I also read BuSpar is for short term, but as long as your doctor prescribes it for you, you should take it as long as you need to. Without it, I would be a wreck. As for side effects, I get dizzy and tired. I take one 15mg at night and the other in the afternoon after work, and take about a 30-minute break to lay down or just watch TV. I feel much better after that."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I started this drug at 10 mg TID after being on Wellbutrin for 2 years for anxiety and losing effectiveness. I felt fine the first two days, but on day three, I felt very nauseous, dizzy, loss of appetite, and just overall 'off.' On the fourth day, I had the worst panic attack I've ever had, and I haven't had a panic attack in over 5 years. I had full body tremors, palpitations, confusion/difficulty concentrating, unable to focus, photophobia for over 3 hours following the attack, and it happened again the next morning after I hadn't taken the drug in over 12 hours. I will never take this again."

For Anxiety "Been taking buspirone for 3 weeks, 7.5 mgs 3 times a day. Helped tremendously with my generalized and social anxiety. First week or so had side effects consisting of headaches, dizziness, tiredness, and lack of motivation throughout the day. But that all went away with the exception of slight dizziness for 30 mins or so after taking it. When it happens, it comes and goes fast. Doesn't always happen. My anxiety is almost non-existent. I can concentrate better, especially in conversations, which before, my mind would wander then race when talking to others. This turns into anxiety attacks. Buspirone helps my mind stay focused on the conversation. I'm more confident in these situations. So far, this drug is exactly what I needed."

Buspirone for Anxiety "When taking the medicine, the first few hours my entire body would have random 'tingles', I would experience vertigo, become dizzy, and be nauseous. I took BuSpar / buspirone for about 3 weeks and quit after these effects, plus decreased sex drive."

For Anxiety "I've been on it for about a week, just about to up it to 30 mg. I have had no dizziness or nausea. I can say for me, it has an immediate effect after taking it. I feel just a tad loopy and very relaxed for about an hour after. Not sleepy or anything, just relaxed. It has definitely suppressed my appetite. It seems to be working already, I'm not grinding my teeth all day, so my jaw no longer hurts and I'm able to focus a bit better. I like it way better than clonazepam or any benzo I've been given. I do not get panic attacks, and I'm also on bupropion."

For Anxiety "I have suffered from anxiety, panic attacks, and depression since I was a teen. At 37, I started taking Prozac. Since then I've gone through just about every medicine on the market. I've been taking Buspar for almost 8 months, and it is the BEST one I have ever taken. I currently take 60 mg of Cymbalta (mostly for headaches) and quit all other meds. I have just a little dizziness in the morning, but this has made me feel confident and comfortable in my own skin for the first time. The most marked improvement is in my work. I have a high-stress job with a lot of deadlines, and now meeting them is no problem; rather a joy. I don't rant and rave when I get home. Increased productivity and a happy life! A miracle. Would like to stop the Cymbalta."

For Anxiety "Buspar worked great for about two weeks. Now I feel very spaced out, irritable. I kept having muscle spasms and panic attacks from it. My anxiety got way worse, and mentally and physically I feel awful from this. I didn't take any today and felt 20 times better, although I still have a very weird body high from it. It is making me feel really nauseous, lightheaded, dizzy, made me paranoid, and made my PTSD way worse. I'll never take this stuff again. I just want to feel halfway normal again."

For Anxiety "I’ve been on buspirone for one month, and prior to this, I’ve tried SSRIs, SNRIs, and antipsychotics - all of which created new mental health symptoms unrelated to what I was dealing with. Anyway, I finally went to try another drug for anxiety (I also have BPD, depression, and OCD). During the first month, I had side effects like dizziness, a bit of drowsiness, and a little nausea. Other than that, my symptom relief has been more than I have seen at any other point. My physical symptoms of anxiety, like sweating, shaky voice, stomach pain, and issues because of it are all gone. I will say that I am still a bit foggy, and that’s been, but after testing by not taking it for two days, I found that it was, in fact, working! This may not be a cure for everyone, but if you have had issues or have been treatment-resistant before, I would recommend trying this one out and testing it for yourself. Good luck!!"

For Borderline Personality Disorder "After trying antidepressants for the last 10 years, this is one of the first medications to lessen the rage I feel. I was also 6 months postpartum when I was placed on the medication. It helped so much after having a baby. I was on 15mg 2x a day but experienced sweats, dizziness, brain shocks, nausea when the medication first kicked in. After 30 min, it would go away, but I brought it up to the doctor and she changed it to 10mg 3x a day, and I no longer experience side effects. It also helped when I was grieving my dad's death. I would cry all day, and it seemed to help pull me out where antidepressants wouldn't."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I have been on BuSpar for about 3 months. I take 30 mg a day. I feel it is effective, but I still get anxious thoughts and worry about having panic attacks. Does this happen to anyone else? Maybe I just up my dose, but I get dizzy for about 30 minutes and can't lay down while I'm working. I was on Paxil, but the side effects were awful, so my Dr switched me to this."

For Anxiety "I've been taking buspirone for over a year and a half. The first 6 weeks were a nightmare. I was going to quit taking them many times. But I invested so much time on the side effects that I stuck through it. I got constant headaches, nauseous, confusion. I had night terrors. But I stuck through it. I had severe anxiety and panic attacks. But I'd have to say it was worth it. I still get anxiety, but not as much. I can go to work now, and I go to therapy. It's not a miracle drug. But it does help a lot. I'm glad I didn't stop taking it. I started off with 15 mg a day. But now I take 30 mg a day. One in the am and one at night. I do get dizzy and nauseous still after I take them sometimes. So I lay down after I take them, and after an hour, I'm fine. I get little confusion every now and then. My advice is stick it out for a while, and hopefully it helps you like it helped me."

For Anxiety "I've had social anxiety since high school and was put on Zoloft, which never worked. I eventually developed panic attacks when I was 26. I've tried Xanax for a few days after I was diagnosed and hated it. Was put on Celexa 20 mg and did not see any improvement after a year. I learned to self-manage and handle my anxiety attacks and knew that I wasn't going to die. I went for a few years like this until I got medical insurance. I went to the doctor. After reading reviews on buspirone, I asked if she thought it'd help with my anxiety. I took 7.5 twice a day for the first 2 weeks and noticed almost immediate (about 30 mins) relief. Yes, it does make you dizzy for a few weeks but nothing you can't handle. Give it 6 weeks and you'll love it!"

Buspirone for Panic Disorder "Took BuSpar for the first time yesterday. My PTSD has been growing into agoraphobia slowly, and it has been debilitating. Started 7.5 mg of the BuSpar, and not even an hour later, I was walking like a drunk, felt like my entire body was being zapped if I moved my neck or head. I was so dizzy I had to take a nap. Decided maybe I'd be better with the nighttime dose. Took it before bed, fell asleep, and woke up every two hours. Ended up wetting the bed (not an issue I've had ever) and still too damned dizzy to get up. I'm in my mid-twenties. This medication doesn't help me, and I'd rather stay on the Clonazepam."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I wish I could say that BuSpar helped me. I was really hoping that I would have the same experience as some of the individuals here. I think the BuSpar actually made my anxiety worse. However, I didn't feel any side effects until I took it for about 2 weeks. I had dizziness and fatigue that many have commented on, but also the less common side effects like gastrointestinal problems, nausea, confusion, and lack of concentration. I had to stop taking it because it was impairing me so badly. I hope that this medication works for others, but it, unfortunately, did not for me."

For Anxiety "I take 10 mg 3 times a day. This med works for me. My biggest issue is it metabolizes quickly, so I find I need to take it throughout the day. I also need to take it with a fairly large meal, otherwise, I have dizziness, heart palpitations, and increased anxiety. I find this helps my anxiety and does give a bit of mood elevation, but that could simply be due to the reduction in anxiety. It doesn’t stop me from having an anxious thought, but it keeps me from spiraling into my anxiety. I also like that it doesn’t have significant withdrawal symptoms that benzos have. This more so stabilizes my anxiety and doesn’t stop an anxiety attack. I also did have to get through the elevated anxiety. But truly, take this with a whole meal. (Literally put my ED into remission by being dedicated to taking medications)"

Buspirone for Anxiety "Been on BuSpar for 6 weeks, and I'm not feeling any better. My anxiety is mild compared to most, but the irritability and sometimes nervous feeling is why I elected to try BuSpar. So far, at 6 weeks, I haven't felt any benefits. The dizziness has been hard to deal with, although I found some relief with 25 - 50 mg Dramamine."

Buspirone for Anxiety "My doctor gave me this on top of my Zoloft to help with increased anxiety. Pros: I’ve never slept so well in my life. Cons: After two days of taking it, I had horrible mood swings and intrusive thoughts. I was lightheaded and dizzy and had multiple panic attacks with heart palpitations and shortness of breath. I’d gladly keep my insomnia if it meant I didn’t have these horrific side effects."

For Anxiety "I have GAD PTSD. I've only been taking the medication for about a week now. I've experienced, so far, dizziness and extreme fatigue an hour after taking the medication in the morning. Then it wears off after an hour or two after the first dose, the second dose at night, not so much. I take 5 mg twice a day."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I started taking BuSpar about 2 months ago, 5 mg 3 X a day, and it has really helped me quite a bit. I was VERY nervous about trying this medicine after having a terrible experience with an SSRI, but I had TOO much anxiety NOT to give it a try, plus the fact that it is non-habit forming appealed to me. I do get a touch of dizziness about 15-20 minutes after taking it, but it's not completely debilitating. My doctor has just recommended for me to up my dosage to 10 mg-3X a day, so I'll keep you all posted and let you know how that goes. It DEFINITELY has helped though, so for that, I am very thankful."

For Sexual Dysfunction, SSRI Induced "I didn't know that increased sexual arousal was a side effect of this medicine until I noticed my libido shot up through the roof. I am on an antidepressant, and my sexual drive was pretty in the toilet. I tried Wellbutrin, but had to stop due to dizziness and shaking. This stuff works great for my anxiety and libido. I'm trying to find a dose that works and doesn't make me too sleepy. I think 15 mg once or twice a day is probably the sweet spot."

Buspirone for Anxiety "Started taking BuSpar to cope with the increased anxiety that Wellbutrin gave me. I eventually got off Wellbutrin because of the awful side effects, but stayed on the BuSpar. It definitely helps to relax me mentally. I feel physically relaxed too, and my anxious habits such as bouncing my leg and drumming my fingers have been reduced, plus some of the racing thoughts and constant worrying have been dulled (although not completely cured). The only side effect so far has been slight dizziness at times, and I feel slightly less coordinated at times. This hasn't been a deal breaker at all, however, and I'm sure these symptoms will go away with time. I'd recommend this for mild anxiety."

Buspirone for Anxiety "Took this medication for a few months after being diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. It did work fairly well in decreasing my symptoms of anxiety, but the side effects were just too much to handle. The first time I took it (my doc prescribed me a low dose, I think it was 5 mg if I remember right), I was knocked out in about 30 minutes and slept for 5 hours straight, not to mention this was in the middle of the day. Also caused extreme dizziness that I had a hard time functioning with. I thought the drowsiness, dizziness, and weakness that it caused might subside after taking it for a while, but I took it for about three months, and these side effects still persisted."
