For Depression "This medication was very hard to use, there was stomach pain and acid reflux. Sleep was poor, and I couldn't sleep more than 2 hours without waking at night. I became very agitated with anxiety and sadness that would come and go very fast. The agitation became worse, and I was looking for anything that irritated me to lash out and went into a rage and confronted others. My heart was always around 100 beats when I was at rest. I also had very strange thoughts that worried me I was losing control of my thoughts."

For Depression "At week 3 of taking Wellbutrin, I got a serious serotonin rush that lasted only 1 day (it was fabulous) and by week 4, I had superpower concentration. My work was getting done faster, and I was clearheaded. But by month 2, it all went away. I am starting month 4 and I am unable to concentrate again, I am crying, I feel 'down'. I feel exactly the same as before I started. I don't want to go on a higher dose because, where does it end? For me, I'd have to say it didn't work."

For Depression "I started bupropion 75 mg and was on it for 10 days. The first days, I was agitated and hypervigilant, had problems with driving as everything attracted my attention, and felt a bit more active. I became careless and a bit arrogant. My empathy and people-pleasing behaviors lowered. I could socialize, not feeling inferior. Slowly, the medicine lost effect. The next 10 days were bupropion ER 150 mg. It gave me grave depression, I feel like I am in a cage, extreme depression, and I feel people are all monsters. I still have empathy, but no joy, no happiness, nothing. I can study, and my brain fog is gone. I can focus if I eat something. Now I am on 300 mg bupropion ER. Still very depressed. No joy. My kidneys are starting to hurt, and I have some breathing problems and nasal dripping problems. Super aware of my surroundings, studying is easy. I have lost joy, and I sleep all the time. I have a dull headache. I feel like if I continue, I will have a mental episode."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I tried this after Prozac, Lexapro, Celexa, Zoloft, and Cymbalta. Worst one. The worst. I've been on 150 XL for a month and a half, and I can't eat without my stomach tensing up and bile going to my stomach. My menstrual cycle is all messed up, I am tired and spacey, I have horrible diarrhea and anxiety, I feel like utter trash. I think I'm done with antidepressants."

For Depression "I took two doses of 150 XL bupropion, on the second dose, I have immediate ear ringing, fullness, and pressure in my ears. I’ve never once had an issue with my ears in my life. I’m very young and healthy. Months later and after multiple ENTs, I have permanent tinnitus from this drug. It shouldn’t be legal."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I've been battling depression off and on for 25+ years. I've been prescribed Wellbutrin several times, despite my telling the doctor that it does nothing for me. Each time, I was at a therapeutic level dosage-wise (300+ mg) and for long enough (6+ months) to be sure of the effects. I have never felt anything from Wellbutrin -- I may as well be taking a placebo. No side effects, no mood effects either way, just nothing. The most recent time I tried it, it wasn't really doing anything, so my psychiatrist took me off it after my ADHD diagnosis for this reason. Zero side effects, zero effects!"

"Wellbutrin made me extremely agitated and angry and caused me to cry almost nonstop for a week. If I wasn't screaming at someone, I was in tears. The symptoms were so bad that my doctor took me off the drug, even after only having it for a little over a week. The side effects were completely unlivable. I could never have done that for weeks while I waited for it to work, I have bills to pay."

For Depression "Wellbutrin was the first antidepressant prescribed after a long bout of depression and some anxiety at 31 years old. I was fearful of taking medicine for depression, and unfortunately, Wellbutrin added to that fear. My mood plummeted, suicidal thoughts intruded, and I felt crazy. I stayed on it for 3 weeks hoping I would ride out the side effects and things would even out, but when there wasn’t a change, I couldn’t risk staying on it longer."

For Depression "Right away, it made me extremely fatigued, gave me heart problems, made me a zombie, and made depression worse. Nothing for anxiety. Straight to the garbage, feel so much better after stopping. Will be giving Doxepin a try now."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Two years ago, I was pressured into taking this by doctors and my family for depression and ADHD. I was on no other medications at the time. I was started on the lowest dose. Side effects went from 0 to 100 by the end of the first week. Experienced severe paranoia with psychosis (spiders all over walls, painful bug-crawling sensation under skin, auditory hallucinations). I should've gone to the hospital, but I'm used to being told I'm overreacting, so I stayed up till 3 am with someone playing ping-pong to distract me. Cut cold turkey that night (since it was only a week in), and most of the issues were gone the next morning. Spoke to a medical professional recently who was prescribing me an SSRI, and she told me this experience on Wellbutrin did not surprise her. Disappointing to see them so unfazed by my story when I was pressured so heavily for a year straight by other doctors to take Wellbutrin. I'd go into the doctor's offices, and there'd be posters encouraging you to ask for the drug."

For Depression "This is an honest review. It is not a horror story. It is to help prevent someone else from having my experience. I was an avid user of this medication since January 2023. I started with 150 mg. I had minor headaches and mild relief for like 8 hours. Then, a crash would happen where I felt depressed like clockwork every day without reason. I moved up to 300 mg. It helped me to stay mellow for the entire 24 hours, which I found great. I started 300 mg in February. Come March (this month), I started to have severe shortness of breath. I was eating and didn't have a heart condition. I don't have any severe allergies. I am healthy outside of my mental health struggles. I would be eating and struggling severely to breathe during and after the meal. I took emergency allergy meds thinking I had developed one out of nowhere. I took iron pills thinking I had low levels (Google will lead you down a rabbit hole). I thought I was suffering from GERD (acid reflux). I was going insane. It was the pills."

For Sexual Dysfunction, SSRI Induced "I took Wellbutrin for about 10 months without any major issues... or so I thought. A few weeks after starting, I realized I couldn't orgasm, but joked with my boyfriend that he 'broke' me and didn't think it was the bupropion. It took a few months, but eventually, my orgasms came back, just much weaker than before. I never once thought it was the bupropion (if I did, I would have stopped) until I left the bottle behind on vacation and realized that after I stopped taking it suddenly, my weak orgasms fizzled down to nothing at all. This was a slow fade over ~6 months, and I only put the puzzle pieces together another six months after that. Now, 2 years later, I see that I went from naturally having multiple amazing orgasms a day to barely being able to eke out roughly 2/10ths as much pleasure post-bupropion. I'd warn anyone on Wellbutrin that they should be extremely careful tapering and keep an eye out for issues, as bupropion is not known to cause sexual side effects but most definitely does."

For Depression "As with almost every other antidepressant I've tried, I developed severe tinnitus within 48 hours of taking Wellbutrin (100 mg SR). Ears ringing loudly, burning. So had to stop. I already have low-grade tinnitus from Celexa, which a doctor put me on when I was a teen, and it never went away. (Over 25 years ago) So I can't risk it getting worse."

"I was prescribed Wellbutrin for alcohol addiction, and it was immediately evident this drug isn’t for me. Within 2 weeks, I had a full-blown 18 “trip” that absolutely terrified me. I was hearing vividly my phone playlist and every word, and there was nothing on. I then hallucinated a man outside my window and then inside my house and called the police. The next day began the facial twitching, my jaw suddenly jerking to the right, and my hands shook so bad I could not hold a spoon or fork. All within 2 weeks…my family called me crazy. I was prescribed by an ER doctor the Wellbutrin. My family doctor told me to stop taking it immediately. I began these drugs after deciding to give up a severe drinking problem. It was really embarrassing to try and do the right thing (went to detox treatment and did great) and then have your family look at you like you just randomly turned insane and had involuntary speech problems, shaking, facial movements, and hallucinations. It may work for some…but it was beyond a nightmare. 200mg once a day."

For Depression "I had very high hopes for this medication. My brother takes it, and it’s magic in a bottle for him. He does very well, no side effects at all. So I have GAD, PTSD, panic disorder, and depression. I take Xanax to help control the anxiety and panic, and I’ve been taking it for 15 years. I’ve had no side effects with that. I lost my mother a few months ago and noticed that my depression was getting worse, and so I decided to try Wellbutrin. I have been on this for a little over 17 days now, and I decided today was the stopping point. I know this is just my experience, and maybe due to my particular medical problems, this medicine just was horrible for me. I could not eat, I can’t hold water down, the nausea is crazy, dry throat, dry eyes, headache, constipation, thoughts of death like OCD fixated on death. My stomach hurts so bad, I’m getting the chills, then hot flashes. I have GERD and hypothyroidism, and maybe this isn’t something that works well with those conditions. Not for me."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I experienced a rare side effect on Wellbutrin that I was not warned about before: a delayed-onset allergic reaction. Two weeks after I started taking Wellbutrin, I broke out in hives all over my body and experienced painful joint swelling. Immediately after stopping the medication, my symptoms disappeared. If you experience any signs of allergic reaction, even weeks after starting, contact your doctor immediately. While this medication works for many people, I wanted to share my experience with a relatively unknown side effect."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I have tried several AD drugs in the past... Venlafaxine, Sertraline, Prozac, Aripiprazole... Some of them have worked for a while... others have not. My particular experience with Wellbutrin lasted for 11 excruciating days. Since day 1, I felt horrendous and uncontrollable suicidal thoughts, as well as exacerbated and aggressive impulsive behaviors, something that had never happened to me in the past. I just held on taking the medicine until the 11th day with the expectation of things getting better, as my psychiatrist told me to hold on... but then, on the 12th day, as I found myself writing suicidal letters to each of my brothers about telling what they should remember about me when I'm gone. I had a moment of clarity and poured those pills into the toilet."

For Depression "This drug made me nuts. I took it for anxiety and depression, and it multiplied the anxiety by a factor of 10. It was like a hand reached down from the sky, grabbed me by the throat, and scared me witless. I could not calm myself down. I felt doomed. I was so scared I became jumpy and angry. Like, furious. The literature all says these symptoms may fade, so I kept taking the pills for 2 weeks until my husband was exhausted by this frantic woman I had become. I stopped cold and felt normal again almost immediately. So don't feel you have to stay with it!"

For Major Depressive Disorder "I had high hopes starting on Wellbutrin, given that it was much different than the previous antidepressants I had tried. The side effects, though, within just the first two weeks, were awful. I had dealt with many medications' side effects before, but with this, I could not stop shaking, and my heart was constantly racing (120+ bpm constantly). I was throwing up, yet also not hungry at all. On multiple occasions, I almost passed out, feeling almost feverish. I had wanted to stick it out and see if they went away, but I felt so awful I didn’t even have it in me to try and wait any longer."

For Depression "In my opinion, Wellbutrin only worsened my depression. My psychiatrist at the time (I have now got a new one) prescribed Wellbutrin for my depression as well as my ADHD. Not only did it worsen my symptoms, but it had no effect on my ADHD. I only got bad side effects from Wellbutrin: worsened suicidal thoughts and extreme increased appetite. I would not recommend it to anyone, but maybe it’s just my experience, everyone’s body acts differently."

For Depression "I started having a bit of mild depression. So I started looking for what I could do to fix it. I started taking some medication that made me feel like a zombie, so I started doing my own research and found that Wellbutrin might be helpful. After about three weeks, I finally felt the increased energy and was so excited. I got up and cleaned my daughter's room. But the next day, I started feeling very drugged and very out of it. So I decided I should stop taking it. That was the worst decision I’ve ever made. It was not easy to get off of this like my other medications. I assumed because I had only been on it for three weeks it would be easy to just stop taking it. Before, I had mild depression. Now my depression is so bad all I can do is cry, and I don’t want to get out of bed. I’ve had suicidal thoughts running rampant because I feel like that’s the only way to make it stop. This medicine is very scary, and I would highly advise against it."
