Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I take 450 mg Wellbutrin for MDD and other meds for bipolar 2, and no other antidepressants worked for me. Some of my other meds made me tired on top of depression, making me exhausted, and this gave me the energy I needed and pulled me back up out of it. It kills my appetite, which is good because I’m guilty of stress eating. It’s known not to change your libido, but my other meds do that, so idk. But overall, this medication has been great for me."

Bupropion for Depression "I was on Wellbutrin years ago, and it helped. In the last couple of weeks, I have been suicidal and VERY depressed. My doctor put me back on the Wellbutrin, and 2 days later I'm ridiculously happy! I think it's worth the side effects, but some may not. I've experienced: insomnia, lack of appetite, horrible nausea, and incessant twitching (every 8 seconds or so). The insomnia is horrible. I've gotten about 2 hours of sleep in the last 3 days. Lack of appetite is okay with me, I needed to lose weight anyway! Ringing in the ears is something I'll deal with, but the nausea and twitching are the WORST by far. I look like I'm having a small seizure sometimes, and the nausea is just...ugh..."

Bupropion for Depression "I had not been on depression medicine in a very long time. I had not had good luck with Prozac, Celexa, Paxil, etc. Too many side effects. But my depression got so bad that I could not get out of bed in the morning. I had a couple of friends swear by this Wellbutrin XL, so I thought I would try it and if I can't handle it, I will stop. I remember going to bed the night before thinking this is my last night of good sleep before all the medication side effects take over my life. But......NOTHING. No side effects. Not one!!! I even thought at one point to call the pharmacy and ask if I got a bad batch of medicine. No jitters, no insomnia, no loss of appetite, no headache. NOTHING! And within a few weeks, I felt ALIVE again. No more sadness, no depression. I had AMAZING energy!!! I mean, I was cleaning EVERYTHING. I've been on this medication for months now and still no side effects. It works!!!!!"

For Anxiety "Well, I've been on bupropion for five days now, and it really seems to be helping. All last week, my anxiety was constant, I was depressed and crying all the time. On top of all of this, I decided to quit smoking cold turkey Thursday of last week. Mind you, my anxiety was so bad that I was smoking a pack and a half a day, so I was an emotional wreck. So my doctor put me on this med, 150 mg for two days and 300 thereafter. I take one in the morning and another 8 hours later, and so far I'm feeling better. I'm not all the way myself, but thank God I have some relief. My doctor did say that it will take about six weeks to feel the total effects. And I haven't had any side effects that I've noticed, it does suppress your appetite."

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I am a 25-year-old female. I started taking Wellbutrin XL 150 mg after being diagnosed with MDD in April. I have done CBT in conjunction with taking medication. On Wellbutrin, I feel more energetic, focused, and present. The black haze I saw my life in cleared, and I feel normal. The main side effects I feel are: increased energy soon after I take it, insomnia, appetite suppression, some impulsivity, some forgetfulness, irritability sometimes, and during high-stress events I felt a buildup of nervous energy and a 'drunk' feeling. I did try other doses: 75 mg once daily did nothing for me, 100 mg of an instant release once daily for a month. I felt an instant energy and focus in the mornings, but by the evenings, my mood would fall very deeply, and I found evenings difficult to get through. At 100 mg, I didn't experience appetite suppression, insomnia, irritability, or impulsivity. I plan to continue 150 mg Wellbutrin XL and may elect to take an SSRI to help with anxiety."

Bupropion "I was put on Wellbutrin for anxiety. It started well, I noticed a decrease in appetite and some shakiness within the first 2 days, but not much else. The 3rd day, my ears began ringing. Later that night, I found myself hyperfocusing on a specific task and I completely forgot everything else around me, almost like I disassociated. When I came to and realized I forgot where I was and what I was doing, this resulted in 2 panic attacks that night. The next day, I didn’t feel anything like myself, I felt confused and completely disoriented. I found myself struggling to focus on conversations or anything really. When I was driving at night, I was so sensitive to lights and confused red lights for brake lights. Worst anxiety of my life, more panic attacks. I decided to stop taking it. Since then, symptoms have disappeared. I understand that the side effects could have decreased over time of being on the medication, but it wasn’t worth it for me. The drug has a different effect on everyone, but it did not work for me."

"I was introduced to this pill, bupropion, because I don’t like SSRIs. They really take your sexual drive away and make you a zombie where you can’t get anything done. The first time I took this pill, I was scared, however, within three days, I was up cleaning the entire house, dancing, and I had energy like it was going out of style. I also noticed orgasms happening without any intercourse. Also, my body stayed the same weight, and I didn’t gain a pound. Some of the side effects were mild in the beginning, like dry mouth, appetite loss for a week, up all night. Also, you can just stop this pill, unlike SSRIs, which you have to titrate off slowly without any horrendous side effects. You don’t feel like you're in a fog like Prozac or Zoloft. And it doesn’t take forever to kick in. I recommend this at a lower dose for any kind of ADD, seasonal depression, smoking cessation, and some anxiety."

For Weight Loss (Obesity/Overweight) "My appetite was totally curbed 100%, and I lost weight, such as about 10 lbs in 2 months. My desire to do things is no longer there, nor much energy yet. The medication makes me see things and people for what they are really worth. I stay more level-headed now. I went from 150 mg to 300 mg."

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I’ve suffered from pretty severe major depressive disorder and anxiety since I can remember, diagnosed since I was 18 (now 25). Tried Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor, Lexapro, and none really helped me escape the deep hurt I felt 24/7. About 16 months ago, I started taking this drug, building up to 300 mg XL over a 2-week time span. That was a pretty horrific time if I’m being honest - manic, crawling out of my own skin, couldn’t sleep at all. But then my doctor added 100 mg of Seroquel at night for my sleep. Over the next 3 months, I felt myself lift out of the darkness a little. She also added an anti-anxiety (Klonopin). Wellbutrin didn’t solve my depression, but it definitely did help save my life. If you’re just trying it out for the first time, try to get past the bad side effects in the beginning if you can. It’s been worth it for me anyways. Long-term side effects have been anxiety, reduced appetite, memory loss, restlessness, nausea, and some confusion/disorientation."

For ADHD "As for what it was supposed to do, it was stellar. I felt more alert, I slept better, my executive dysfunction had improved significantly. I unfortunately experienced side effects so bad that I had to stop it urgently. Over time, the simple thought of food could make me gag constantly for 5-10 minutes. Almost completely stopped eating. I was a little underweight already, kind of borderline, I got *severely* underweight within a month and a half. Do not recommend if you don't have any weight to spare. Most importantly though, I had extremely high blood pressure. I didn't know that's what it was until it became so bad I couldn't function. I felt the blood rush through my brain and felt very faint. Couldn't think. As time went on, I would try to speak and words just wouldn't come out. Paired with a heart rate of 170 bpm at rest, it was a nightmare. It worked well and apparently my reaction is not too common, so I would still recommend!"

For Bipolar Disorder "I started this medication, bupropion, to treat the depression of my bipolar type 2 disorder. It really works! My mood stabilized and my outlook on life significantly improved. However, I completely lost my appetite and got down to 96 lbs. I’m a 25-year-old woman, and I’m now severely underweight. Bupropion is still worth it to me, though. It helped me pick myself up and change my life."

Bupropion for Depression "I had weaned off Effexor in October as I was tired of the side effects. I wanted to go the natural route with exercising and eating better to see if it would help. Unfortunately, I have been going through a hard time and needed something to help me through this. I started on Wellbutrin XL, 150 mg, about 2 weeks ago. I honestly can't tell if it is helping or not. I feel about the same mood-wise... very sad, crying a lot, no appetite, sense of failure, and no hope. I know things can't change immediately but was hoping I could be one of the individuals that experience positive results. Hope this changes eventually."

Bupropion for Depression "I've been on the generic version of Wellbutrin SR 100 mg once a day a little over a week. Added to supplement my 20 mg Prozac twice a day and 0.5 Klonopin twice a day. I've been on the Prozac and Klonopin for over a year, and it began to be not as effective. I began to feel very depressed along with my anxiety, also, I've gained about 20 lbs, so my psychiatrist prescribed 100 mg Wellbutrin SR once a day in the morning to help. So far, I've noticed I'm extremely tired about 1 hour after taking it, so tired even my strongest cup of coffee can't keep me awake. I know Prozac and Klonopin can have this as a side effect, but my body is well adjusted to that now, those side effects are long gone. I've noticed better focus and reduced appetite, so now I will just wait."

For Smoking Cessation "I would like to share my experience after 10 days of taking Bupropion SR. It seems to be working as my desire to smoke has diminished. After 7 days, I started to experience insomnia, only sleeping 4-5 hours nightly. I'm a coffee drinker, and the taste for coffee is not the same. Lost appetite, and I'm beginning to lose a little weight only 10 days in. Not complaining about that. lol. On days 8, 9, and 10, I began having dreams (not gruesome) dreams. Just crazy dreams and very vivid. I honestly believe I can kick this horrible habit with help from this medication. I've tried many times on my own and been a complete failure. You have to do your part and want it bad enough to push through it. Give it a chance. Good luck!"

Bupropion for Depression "I have bipolar II, and after a series of failed drugs, I was prescribed quetiapine (that's a whole other message board) and bupropion. I was on Activas bupropion 150 XL for about six weeks. It stabilized me, but I was still depressed - but functioning. Side effects - waking up early, feeling like a zombie, loss of appetite - went away within that time period. I've now been on Par Pharmaceutical's bupropion 300 XL for about a month. Side effects are irritability and jitters, but I'm hoping those go away. I tried Activas 300 XL - oval pills - and it seemed to dump a large portion of the medication about two hours after taking it, giving me a zombie effect. It also gave me a headache. Those things may have gone away with time, but I switched back to Par. Overall, I'm content, and my depression is gone."

Bupropion for Depression "Once I started this medicine, I would be woken up by my stomach pains. This medicine made me queasy and sick for hours on end. This is a little TMI, but it gave me terrible diarrhea ALL DAY LONG. I had little to no appetite, which was kinda exciting but not when I literally needed food in my stomach to calm the pain. Did not make my depression any better; honestly, it worsened my anxiety and made me much less social. All I can say is - I will be going back to my good ole Cymbalta!"

Bupropion for Depression "It worked well for my depression. I noticed an improvement in mood after a week. It gave me energy. I took 150 mg of the sustained release formula every morning for about one month. I stopped just after I picked up my next month's prescription, which I still have. I stopped because I thought it was inducing mania in me and causing anxiety. I'm now not so sure this was the cause. I also quit smoking about two days after I started on this medication and had absolutely no side effects from nicotine withdrawal. This medication gave me some side effects for the first two weeks: lack of appetite, bloating, dizziness (especially when smoking cigarettes, this is what prompted me to quit). I also experienced tingling in my hands."

Bupropion for Smoking Cessation "Started on 1 tablet a day for six days, all was fine. Then, a day after starting the two tablets, my life spiraled into a four-day and night hell of panic attacks, anxiety, racing heart, sweats, sickness, unable to eat, and a vile taste in my mouth. I was crying hysterically. While this product may work for some, it sadly didn’t for me, and the whole experience has left me totally against this drug."

Bupropion for Depression "Since when it comes to this type of medication, it works like a dream for one and a disaster for another, I rarely read these reviews. I have never left one either. But my experience with this one was not good. Hopefully, for those who experienced sickness, hard depression, whacked anxiety, dizziness, sick headaches, sleeplessness, zero appetite, head pressure, and pure insomnia, maybe this review will give you hope as you are not alone. I was going to try to get through it, but no way. Garbage. After 1 week, I bailed out. Purely awful for me."

For Major Depressive Disorder "26 y/o woman with long-time MDD/anxiety. Bupropion is the first antidepressant I’ve ever tried-Lupin brand. Felt a positive change in the first three days. Wasn’t sure if it was the meds or just me being hopeful... Over the first month, my appetite was suppressed and I lost five pounds. Bupropion helped me keep a regular sleep schedule and increased my energy levels. I have “good” days often now. I’ve found the motivation to get A’s in both my summer courses, raising my GPA from 0.8 to 1.5. My sadness and anger have decreased in intensity. I used to lay in bed all day upset, crying, emotional eating, and isolating. Much less of all that now... less overreacting... less angry outbursts... I do experience occasional bouts of blah-ness... not upset, just quiet and empty-minded... but I’d take clear, cloudy days over constant storms in my head any day."

Bupropion for Depression "I'm on my 5th day of starting Wellbutrin SR (generic) 100mg and feel more energetic and less depressed and lethargic. That could be a placebo effect so early in treatment, but I know for sure that it's almost completely taken away my appetite. I actually forget to eat. I had been on Prozac, which worked great at first, and then the therapeutic effects seemed to fade over the months until I was severely depressed again. This has happened to me with several other antidepressants as well. I hope that Wellbutrin will work consistently for me. So far, I'm very happy with the results."

For Depression "I feel great on bupropion. I’ve been taking it for 4 weeks now for depression, and I’m definitely in a better mood. I’m more motivated to do things, and my loss of interest in things I used to love doing is back with a vengeance. This medication is life-changing! Also, when I began taking it, my sex drive was through the roof. It’s leveled off a bit now, though. And it has also helped me lose a couple pounds thus far. My appetite isn’t nearly as big as it was before starting bupropion. Love it!"

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "150 mg x2 Bupropion SR. An excellent but dangerous drug. Side effects: seizures, nausea, appetite loss, hearing damage, increased libido, increased energy, aggression or agitation. A strange medication, you lose cravings for everything but sex. No desire to eat, smoke, drink, or use street drugs. However, at therapeutic levels, it can cause seizures. The medication works great otherwise, I just needed to increase my anti-epileptic drug (AED). Wellbutrin acts very stimulating, so piggybacking a sedating antidepressant or anti-anxiety med is usually a good idea. Personally, I use doxepin and (as needed) Valium. It balances out Wellbutrin nicely. For the first few years, I had constant stomach pains from the medication even when taken before bed. The stomach pains went away immediately with the SR. There are studies showing Wellbutrin causing damage to hearing after decades of use. I noticed the ringing in my ears went away (after 20 years or so), but my hearing was now worse."

For Smoking Cessation "Wow, it is nice to see that this med did wonders for a lot of people. I started this med because I have tried everything to stop smoking but always ended back up smoking due to hard withdrawal symptoms I would get. I also struggle with anxiety, which only enhanced how much I would smoke or started again after quitting. So, I have not been bothered with my anxiety at all since this med. I also have no cravings for cigarettes, honestly, thinking of them makes me want to puke! I do have a strong happy euphoric feel with mild cloudiness in my head, and my libido has increased too out of nowhere. The only bad thing I have encountered so far is a mild headache, but it went away with aspirin, and a mild cramp in my stomach, not painful, just bothersome, and loss of appetite."
Bupropion for Depression "I started taking this medicine for depression and adult ADD-like symptoms. I did not notice any side effects at all in the beginning, very easy to start taking. However, after taking it for about two months, I noticed I was very easily aggravated and overreacted to little things like crazy! Very emotional, crying, deep emotional pain. I did not wean off, I just stopped taking it because I didn't feel like 'me.' No adverse reaction in stopping for me, although I don't recommend stopping cold turkey for others. Only a plus was reduced appetite and increased libido!"
