For Depression "Bupropion works great. I was clinically depressed for months on end, trying to find a reason why. I cut out gluten, caffeine, and alcohol with no help. As I began to lose hope, out of the blue, I tried this medication. At first, I had anxiety, which subsided quickly. This medicine makes me a more generally happy person and gives me energy and motivation to complete tasks. After taking it for 3 months or more, I now notice no negative side effects, it's definitely worth a try. I was very skeptical to try it based on bad reviews, but I'm so happy that I did. Prayers for your mental health journey, God bless."

Bupropion for Depression "I've been on medicine 150 for less than a week. I feel a little high, anxious, nervousness. But that is a relief compared to the last year sleeping upwards of 20 hours a day with no will to live. I took 300 mg. 10 years ago and lost 35 lbs within months. Already 4 days in I'm down 3 lbs quit smoking and keep trying to nap because of habit but can't sleep my life away. Thank God. I feel a little manic at times but remember this from before it will wear off. I already got up the last 2 days and exercised haven't done that in 3 years. I'll report feeling in a few months once I'm up to 300mg and stable. 1st day in 3 years where I'm not feeling dread."

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I tried this after Prozac, Lexapro, Celexa, Zoloft, and Cymbalta. Worst one. The worst. I've been on 150 XL for a month and a half, and I can't eat without my stomach tensing up and bile going to my stomach. My menstrual cycle is all messed up, I am tired and spacey, I have horrible diarrhea and anxiety, I feel like utter trash. I think I'm done with antidepressants."

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I started taking Wellbutrin XR 150 mg after having major depression and tried several other medicines over 3 years. Other medicines worked well but partially, with side effects including sexual ones. Before Wellbutrin, I had no interest in doing lots of basic things I used to do. After I started Wellbutrin 150 mg, positive signs started just a few days after, with the peak after 4-5 weeks. Wellbutrin gives energy and motivation to do things. The only drawback is that this energy sometimes continues even after midnight. So sometimes I could stay awake until morning without feeling tired or mentally exhausted when I go to the office, which led to some mild anxiety. To overcome this issue, my doctor gave me another medicine to help with it. And now all is perfect. Note: you may not face the same side effects I had. Finally, I have no sexual side effects with Wellbutrin, unlike with my old medicines."

For Anxiety "I’ve taken this medication bupropion for one week. The first six days I felt great, but starting day seven (yesterday) my anxiety has gotten worse! I feel like I’m regressing! I thought maybe it was just me, but my anxiety had been better than after taking this medication! It just makes it worse for me."

Bupropion for Depression "After reading a lot of these reviews, I have never heard of as many mixed effects! Mine, so, too. Been taking a dose of 150 mg Wellbutrin XL for depression for about 6 weeks; then increased the dose to 300 mg for 1 week. I've been on tricyclics for 30 years, and they really worked! Wellbutrin makes me feel 'unaffected', almost anesthetized. I don't want to talk, eat, or sleep. 150 mg works better for me. I have lost about 5 pounds, but my depression is no better after 6 weeks. Anxiety is also increased even though I'm on Buspar and Klonopin. Klonopin doesn't seem to work with Wellbutrin. Panic attacks have decreased. I don't understand the effects Wellbutrin has on me. I'm different but not better. I'm hoping one morning to wake up to a breakthrough!"

Bupropion for Depression "I have been on generic Wellbutrin XL 150mg for about a month and a half now. All I can say is that it is an interesting drug. I didn't want to really go on it because, while I have depression, it is not that bad. I was hoping to get on something to help my anxiety because that is way worse. Well, the first 3 weeks I was on it were fine. I felt a little bit more energy and libido and no side effects. Then all of a sudden from week 3-4, I got extremely anxious, stressed, and angry. Everything made me angry. I can happily say that those side effects have passed and I now have none. These last 2 weeks have been great. Tons of energy and drive. Love cleaning now for some reason and I used to hate it."

Bupropion for Depression "I’m that patient that smokes, you know what... My doctor knows. This time around, being 20 now and taking this pill again, I’m on day 4 or 5, and my appetite is absolutely gone, even when elevated. But I think I’m feeling more balanced out overall, but when I have my anxiety moments, they are very intense. Too soon to tell if I could recommend it, but it has interacted fine with Mary J the past 4-ish days:"

For Anxiety "Changed from sertraline to Wellbutrin, sertraline shut my libido down (can't believe she still loves me) and took me a while to figure that out (thanks, Doc!). After a few months on Wellbutrin, I have many of the same symptoms that I read here: insomnia is brutal, wake up at 4 a.m. to the sound of a neighbor's car starting, and I am up for good. Mood swings, anxiety worse than before... I can go on, blurry vision for sure... short-tempered... none of which I had before WB. When I told my doc I wanted to stop, she upped me to 300 mg daily! I took her advice, but I have had enough, this is crazy! It didn't work for me. With all these symptoms, I forgot why I was even taking it. My original long-standing issue was anxiety and OCD. I feel like I have spent most of my life trying to diagnose and find something to help me."

Bupropion for Depression "I’ve been on Wellbutrin for almost 2 weeks now for depression. I’m giving it a seven out of 10 because I used to cry every day when I woke up, drove to work, drove home, and before bed. Now I don’t cry at all, in fact, I actually feel peaceful. Is this how normal people feel? I used to drink coffee multiple times a day, and now I don’t even crave it. I also used to smoke marijuana here and there to stop crying at night. And I haven’t had the urge. Anyways, I’m worried about the whole anxious thing, sometimes I find myself not focused at work and sometimes feel overwhelmed. But I’m going through a terrible breakup, so I don’t know if it’s the depression or the pill. I’ve also lost a lot of weight, which I’m not mad about. I don’t crave junk or carbs. I don’t feel sad anymore. I guess I would say I feel kind of numb/peaceful. I’d rather feel numb than the horrible, painful, depressing feeling I used to feel every day, I would feel worthless. Let’s hope the anxiety goes down!"

Bupropion for Depression "Taken all types of antidepressants. None worked until a friend mentioned Wellbutrin. Started off on 150mg SR generic brand. Anxiety increased, smoking decreased, sex drive moderate, no change in weight or additional side effects. After two years, doctor finally prescribed 24 hr Wellbutrin. Taking name brand. Day 2 & WOWWWWW. I'm feeling fabulous. I have Valium in case of emergency anxiety attacks. But I honestly believe this is a winner."

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I've lived through a lot of trauma, I have been on Wellbutrin XL for 10 years and recently stopped for 10 months. Today is my 6th day back on it, and I am feeling less anxious about my circumstances in life right now. It has helped me daily get out of bed, control outbursts, and overall keep moving forward. I would say I am lucky to have this medication."

Bupropion for Depression "I had Wellbutrin for depression, it did help me extremely with my mood. It did cause me to become more forgetful and kind of empty-headed, but I felt alive again. It made me lose weight and stop with food obsessions. It did increase anxiety, but I weighed the pros and cons and was on it for a while because while the pros were weight loss and a better mood, the cons being forgetful and anxious weren't worth it. So I will be trying Prozac now. I was on 150 mg SR 2x a day."

For ADHD "This medicine has changed my life. Typical antidepressants (SSRIs) never worked for me, and if they did, the effects wore off after a month or so. I've had mild symptoms of borderline personality disorder and moderate symptoms of ADHD, and after three months of taking it, I can't imagine being off of it. I can control my emotions, concentrate, and FINALLY FEEL JOY, for the first time in my life. My PMS symptoms are also way less intense. I did have mild anxiety in the first week and a bit of nausea for 3 weeks, but the side effects went away after a month or so. My mom tried it for her ADHD, but it didn't work for her, and it doesn't work for everyone. But if you know you have a severe dopamine deficiency (like I did), this medication is definitely worth a shot!"

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "Once I started taking Wellbutrin, it was wild. I forgot what it was like to feel anger and lust. I forgot what it was like to not feel exhausted for no real reason. Even small things like listening to music became wonderful again. I was very manic when I first started taking the medication. I could feel myself being reckless and putting myself in dangerous situations. I'm also more aggressive on Wellbutrin, but it's just something I have to be aware of and learn to control. I stopped taking my anti-anxiety meds after taking Wellbutrin, too, because they made me wildly dizzy when I took them with Wellbutrin. Additionally, I can be anxious/have irrational thoughts now, but it's nothing from which I can't talk myself down. Overall, my self-esteem and sense of well-being have vastly improved. I'd highly recommend Wellbutrin to anyone whose family has a history of mental illness. I think the boost of dopamine and norepinephrine really helps with MDD."

Bupropion for Depression "I use Wellbutrin XL and it helps my bipolar disorder and adult ADD! It gives me better focus, eases anxiety, keeps me from becoming enraged for no reason and helps me from getting depressed! I no longer scream at my family (very important) and I don't sit and cry for no reason anymore! This is a miracle medicine for me."

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "After 1 week of taking Wellbutrin, I developed severe intrusive tinnitus. I have been off the drug for almost a year, and it has not faded at all. While obviously this side effect doesn't happen to everyone who takes Wellbutrin, it is frighteningly common. All of the doctors I've seen since then (psychs, ENTs, etc.) weren't surprised at all when I told them my tinnitus was from Wellbutrin. It has absolutely destroyed what was left of my life. I already had depression, anxiety, and insomnia, now all of these are 100x worse, plus suicidal thoughts. Again, I don't want to say 'don't take this drug' because all drugs have side effects, and I was one of the unlucky ones. But I would highly suggest something else as I would not wish this on my worst enemy."

Bupropion for Smoking Cessation "I smoked for 35 years. Pack a day. I never thought I could quit. I joined a smoking cessation workshop run by a doctor and social worker from the HMO I belong to. They offered an 8-week workshop and 6-month prescription of Zyban at 20% of the over-the-counter cost for the drug. The first week of taking Zyban was accompanied by some side effects which I hated (waking up early, nervous). I spoke to the workshop leaders and said I felt like quitting the drug due to the side effects. They told me to 'hang on a few more days' and the side effects would disappear. They were 100% correct! I am so happy! I took Zyban for 5 months and then weaned off of it. I never have the urge for cigarettes."

Bupropion for Depression "If you're anything like me, you're scrolling these reviews, freaking yourself out over the bad reviews. I never wanted to take meds, but I gave them a try because I needed that extra help. Yes, the first two weeks suck. My anxiety skyrocketed, I was irritable, had dry mouth, and really bad brain fog. That's how it's going to be when taking a new powerful drug, your body needs to adapt. To be blunt, you just need to suck it up and push through, knowing these feelings will pass because they do. One day I was suicidal, so if that lasts more than a day or so, then yes, maybe it's not for you. Have a support system, friends or family, it helps a lot. Week 3-5, I felt no change, week 6 rolled around, and I felt GREAT. At peace, motivated, and clear-minded. I started with 100 mg, just went up to 50 mg. In order to heal, you NEED to pair medication with other help like meditation, yoga, exercise, therapy, and a healthy diet. I promise when you put that effort in, amazing things will come your way."

Bupropion for Depression "It is amazing to see the variability in how people respond to Wellbutrin! However, this is common for most psychotropic medications. I started taking it to see if it would help with my Seasonal Affective Disorder and fibromyalgia. I started to feel more energetic, creative, and almost stoned within the first week. I felt so much better I decided to leave my 23-year marriage because I felt like I now had the energy to break free and find a more positive relationship. However, after two and a half months on Wellbutrin, only at 100 mg, I started to feel edgy, anxious, and 'not myself.' I was feeling like I was losing myself, and it was starting to be quite scary! After two days off of the med, now I am feeling like myself again. When we take meds like this, we really need to monitor whether we are doing better or worse overall. Whatever you do, make sure you are doing psychotherapy at the same time. Whatever you do, don't give up on yourself!"

Bupropion for Depression "I have been on Wellbutrin SR prescribed off-label for major depressive disorder for about 3 years now. Initially, I had the same kind of side effects that are common, such as headache, some anxiety, and difficulty sleeping. The side effects diminished and pretty much went away after about a month, and I take my second dose at midday so that it doesn't impact my sleep. Overall, this medication has made a huge difference in my quality of life and has stopped me from experiencing cripplingly low moods and huge rapid mood swings. It continues to work as well now as it did at the start of treatment. It has also helped me to focus and concentrate on a task in a way that I found hard before. My main concern has been the impact on short-term memory."

Bupropion for Depression "I have been on Wellbutrin 300 mg once a day for about 2 years now. This medication has changed my life. It did cause me to have severe anxiety at first, but I am now on a medication for the anxiety and the Wellbutrin has knocked out the depression almost 100%. I am doing the things that I love again and am so much nicer and calmer to the people around me. I went off of it recently for a week and a half due to some insurance issues and I am back to crying daily, laying in bed wanting to do nothing, and sleeping my weekends away. I recommend trying Wellbutrin and seeing what it can do for you!"
