For Depression "I've been on Bupropion XL for almost 7 years after trying every other antidepressant and suffering all their side effects. They made me sleepy, weird, and generally vapid. If I'm honest, Bupropion did and continues to do nothing for my depression. I think it might even have made my anxiety worse. BUT--and this is a HUGE but--I feel like myself. I'm awake, I'm alert, and I GET. STUFF DONE. Seriously, I started Bupropion and wrote a 140k word novel that month for no reason whatsoever. Regular antidepressants took away my depression, but they also took away everything else, and that just made me more depressed in a different way I couldn't quite feel. Bupropion gave me myself back, it kicked me in the ass and slapped me across the face and forced me to do the things I want to do. I'm still depressed, but Bupropion showed me how to live with it."

For Seasonal Affective Disorder "I was originally prescribed this for seasonal affective disorder. I took this for about two years. I then went off. I have noticed that seasonal issues slowly began to reappear. I also noticed that my self-diagnosed ADD issues were really beginning to get the best of me, especially the thoughts running wild when I should be sleeping. I noticed an immediate change after going back onto Bupropion XL 150 mg. This has helped to keep me focused and has given me regular sleep ability again even though I am a second shifter. I am glad to have my life back."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I am a 53-year-old woman. I have struggled with depression probably since my 20s. I would go to my family doctor, and she would prescribe an antidepressant, it wouldn't work, and I would be given another one to try. This went on for many years. Until 3 days before Christmas last year, I had a major breakdown, and my husband took me to the hospital crisis unit. There I met my psychiatrist! Thank God! After talking with him, he prescribed Bupropion XL 150 mg once a day. I have been taking it now for approximately 1 month. It didn't seem to be doing much for me (or so I thought) until this week. It just seemed like a heavy fog has been lifted! I'm hoping each day will get better and better."

For Depression "I was on Wellbutrin XL 150 mg for 16 weeks. I was experiencing dizziness, hair loss, migraines, constipation, and fatigue. I saw my psychiatrist, and she suggested I try the name brand and gave me 4 weeks of samples to try. Immediately, my side effects went away. I felt so much better. Unfortunately, my insurance would not approve the PA for the name-brand Wellbutrin. I ended up switching to Aplenzin, which is similar to Wellbutrin, it just came out. It is working well. So point is, if you are experiencing side effects, don’t get off the medication, try a name brand. Hopefully, your insurance will pay for the name brand. The funny thing is my insurance would pay for name-brand Wellbutrin. They are paying for Aplenzin, which costs more than the name brand."

For Depression "I'd been on Budeprion 150 XL for close to 1 year; felt 'ok,' yet hoped to feel better. I knew something was off, so the doc suggested upping to 300 XL. Felt improvement but soon developed tremor, so we decided to try alternating days (i.e., 300 XL Monday, 150 XL Tuesday, etc.), which eliminated the tremor and also improved my mental state. Another side effect of 300 XL was an increase in libido. Sounds good, but almost too much. It decreased after a couple of weeks. How do I know the mix is working? My thoughts are in a steady state of the present, no longer projecting into the past or speculating about the future. I'm not one for wishful thinking, but I do hope the Wellbutrin continues to work for my mental health."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I have had depression as long as I can remember. I went to my doctor, and he prescribed me Prozac. I honestly vaguely even remember anything about that, which was one of the symptoms: forgetfulness. It was really bad, so I got off of it and got prescribed Lexapro. All that did was make me sleep 24/7, so again I got off of that and finally was prescribed Bupropion 150 mg. The symptoms in the beginning weren't too bad, and within about two weeks, I began feeling like a human being again. It literally felt like a huge weight had been lifted off me. :) The only symptom I seem to have that's really bothersome is it gives me really bad insomnia. Other than that, it's great. I'm proud to say I've been on it almost a year now, and it's definitely improved my life. :)"

For Depression "I recently switched from Wellbutrin XL to the generic form Budeprion XL to save money. After several weeks, I realized the medication wasn't working like Wellbutrin XL. I'm all for generics usually, but in this case, the generic drug doesn't work."

For Depression "I have been taking this generic for several years. It worked great. Now my pharmacy uses a different manufacturer every time I refill. What a difference. With the Watson brand, I'd rate this a 10. I'm currently on the Activis brand, and I would rate this a 0. All symptoms back. I found a few of the other brands and took them and felt great, but now I'm back to this most recent refill, and it's awful. All I can say is, although there are supposedly the same ingredients, not all generics are equal."

For Bipolar Disorder "When this generic was added to my large list of drugs (including one other antidepressant), I became the most mellow person in the world. Nothing upsets me. Everything moves along nicely. Feel a little disassociated with the world, actually. BUT I QUIT SMOKING! So now I won't let them take it away."

For Major Depressive Disorder "This has been the only antidepressant that works for me. I have suffered most of my life from anxiety and depression. Before taking this, I was obsessed with time, would ruminate constantly, pending a sense of doom, no motivation, and just tired. I used to be addicted to Adderall, meth, and once I stopped, I became a compulsive snacker. This medicine helped me lose 50+ pounds by helping me get up to exercise, not overeat, or obsess over food. It helps me be my best self, and I no longer wake up dreading the day. I take 450 mg: 150 mg + 300 mg."

For Depression "What can I say? This is a GREAT medicine! It was prescribed to me to prevent migraines and depression, and it works wonders. I stopped getting migraines from 2-3 a week to maybe 1 a month, helped me improve my energy, sex drive, and YES, I lost about 25 lbs in less than 3 months. LOVE IT. I would so recommend it to anyone."

For Depression "Have taken other medications in the past and stopped due to the side effects. Now I take Bupropion XL 300 mg a day with no apparent side effects. I can laugh. I can still cry. I don't dwell on bad things. It makes me just feel better. But the doctor accidentally wrote for SR once. I went ahead and took a dose (thinking it would be basically the same, only a little faster acting - I took a 150 mg dose) and was sick as a dog and felt drugged. Amazing the difference in XL and SR - and I imagine the fast acting would be even more severe. I'll stick to the XL."

For Depression "I have been using Budeprion for about 3 months, and not only have I quit smoking, it has helped me in other ways mentally. I would not say that it makes me 'happy,' but it has given me such moments of clarity/enlightenment."

For Depression "I've been suffering from depression and anxiety for 8 years with little relief from other antidepressants and combinations (Zoloft, Lexapro, Lexapro & Lithium, Imipramine, Desipramine) and cognitive therapy. I became so sick of switching medications that I just pretended everything was okay until it was too much to bear. I've been on Budeprion XL for about a month now, increased from 150 mg to 300 mg. Other than a periodic rapid heartbeat, some brief sleeping interruptions, and a tad bit of irritability, I can honestly say I'm starting to feel a bit better. I've got more energy than I've had in a long time as well. I would just recommend that if you're a heavy caffeine consumer, maybe cut back a bit to reduce some of the symptoms."

For Depression "I have been on bupropion for mild depression for many, many years. I switched to the 300 XL recently, in order to only take it once a day. I had tried many other antidepressants and found one overriding side effect: sexual problems. With the Budeprion XL, I have no such effects, and the drug works very well."

For Major Depressive Disorder "My experience taking it was a lifesaver. It really helped me. I used to really feel down in the dumps, and it's really helped me come to be my real self. I used to hide behind being fake and just let people walk on me, putting me in a deeper depression. This saved my life."

"I have been taking Budeprion XL for 1 month now. It has changed my life. I am smoking less, have more energy, and my sex drive is off the chart. I have never felt this great before in my life. It is a wonderful drug."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I have been on bupropion XL 300 for 5 days. The first day I had great energy levels but felt weird. Day 2-4 I have had bad anxiety, no appetite, and not sleeping well. Day 5 today seems to be a better day. I still have energy, which is good, and anxiety seems to be diminishing. And if I lose a few pounds, I won't be sad. I'm sure it will take weeks to get to where I need to be, hoping for the best and just trying to ride it out. Any advice?"

For Depression "So I've been taking Wellbutrin XL 150 for a month and then increased my mg to 300 daily currently. It helps with a lot of issues I have with mood swings and severe depression. Just like the anon below me, I now have premature ejaculation, which is something I've never had before. Literally went from having 10 minutes of sex to 30 seconds, and it's making me feel less confident."

For Seasonal Affective Disorder "I had used bupropion XL three years ago for SAD (seasonal affective disorder) and it helped. I started again at the end of November 2019. After 4 weeks, it started to work. I would recommend starting to take it the first week that Daylight Saving Time ends, November 1 or even before. It might be best to start taking it when you notice that the days are getting shorter and it bothers you. I intend to taper down the first week of March 8 as long as I am feeling well. I cannot say it helps with ADD. I am taking 150 mg extended release."

For ADHD "I have been taking Wellbutrin for 8 plus years. Then went to SR, then XL. Helped with my ADHD with Adderall too. Went off for about a year and started back. To save money, went to generic 150mg XL - they were great. When Dr. suggested increasing back to 300mg daily (as previously), I agreed. I started taking the 300mg XL generics - the symptoms returned. I noticed when I opened the bottle there was a noxious odor given off. After 4 weeks, couldn't stand the smell and returned the rest of the pills to my pharmacy. They replaced them and said they would look into the problem. The 150mg SR generics stink too. Only the 150mg XL generics don't."

For Depression "Wasn't on this drug for very long, only about 2 months. I felt mildly stimulated, but got no great effects from it. No side effects either, however. The reason for the high rating is that it destroys all pleasure of smoking for me, to the point that I don't want to smoke due to the fact I won't feel it. Also, the only popular antidepressant I know that doesn't affect sex drive in a negative way like SSRIs."

For Depression "This generic works very well for me. I switched to the generic because my insurance carrier recommended me to do so. I feel much better, and I didn't even know I was depressed. Only thing is I have no energy."

For Weight Loss (Obesity/Overweight) "I have been taking Budeprion XL 150 mg once a day for the past 3 months for depression, and I have to say it is the 'happy pill.' My depression has gotten better, I have more energy, sleep better at night, and my anxiety has decreased. Additionally, I have noticed that my appetite is suppressed, and I have lost 20 lbs in 3 months. I have also cut back on smoking cigarettes. I honestly have never felt better. Before taking Bupropion, I had taken Sertraline, which only made me feel more depressed and caused me to gain weight, which made me feel worse about myself. Bupropion has been a win-win for me because, after having a hysterectomy, I lost my sex drive, and Bupropion has given it back. The only side effect I have experienced from the medication is dry mouth, but I can deal with it. It actually makes me drink more water, which is something I never used to do in the past."
