People say don't read the negative reviews before you start the treatment, but for me, it was helpful to know what to expect. The first 2 days were okay. But from day 3, I have been experiencing most of the side effects: nausea, vomiting, loose stools, stomach pain, bitter and sour taste in my mouth, chills, fatigue, foggy head, and bloating. I am sure only some people experience these symptoms, but I wonder if these side effects are, after all, just effects, not side effects. Sort of like going through chemo. For those who start the medication, please make sure to get off work and stay home! 5 more days to go, and I will stick to it."

My side effects were extreme exhaustion, sleepiness, nausea, black feces, dark urine, headache, feverish sensation as if you caught the flu, but with NO actual fever and occasional sneezing. My nose and throat run regularly. All in all, it is similar to the sensation of having a cold or flu, but without actual fever (just the sensation of it). The leaflet does not really describe most of the symptoms that I read here."

At day 2, I started having nausea, dark stool, headache, and just sometimes an uncomfortable feeling, and dark urine started at day 4. I wish I never went to the doctor or got this med. I hope it works because I would be annoyed after all that suffering, it must give me relief. I avoided everything they said to avoid, and the side effects still didn't go away. Bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I had food poisoning in July 2021, recovered in a week but had persistent diarrhea for some reason (frequent bowel movements, not watery stool). My doc checked for H. pylori and it came back positive. I didn’t have any symptoms, but he said it’s better to treat it. Took Pylera, and I have to say it is a very tough medicine. The first two days were the worst: headache, nausea, neck stiffness, loss of appetite, fatigue, dry mouth, mood swings, feeling like I would die and depressed, the worst feeling ever. Then my body started adapting, and symptoms started to come and go throughout the treatment. Black stool, dark urine, and frequent urination. I just finished it 2 days ago and will check if I still have the bacteria or not. Advice: take with food, avoid dairy and alcohol during treatment, water, and good luck."

Bloating, nausea, and diarrhea... can't wait until this nightmare ends. I have not been able to work for 5 days already due to this medication. Once you start the treatment, you can't stop it. The worst part is the last pill before bedtime. I had to set an alarm and eat crackers, then take the pill. Then, in the morning, I didn't want to get up and felt very worn. I still have 4 more days and hope I make it. Will have to recheck with my results on how I did. Oh, and also the cost of these, even with insurance, was $250.00. All I can say is they better work."

I have experienced so many awful side effects that I started keeping a journal. I have extreme fatigue, my arms feel heavy, I can't really grip things (dropped my toothbrush in the sink 3 times last night), cold sweats, complete loss of appetite, dizziness, nausea, a slight ringing in my ears, feeling like there's a buzzing sensation in my scalp, minor headaches, cramps, dark stool, and finally this morning I threw up an hour after taking my first 3 pills. On top of all these horrible side effects, I am really struggling to fit in the 4 doses and the two doses of omeprazole. I am also prescribed pain medication 3 times a day for a separate issue, and the last two days I have only taken 3 total pills.... I can't figure out timing to safely take everything. Two nights ago I simply skipped the 4th dose because I could not fit it in. I am praying that Pylera works, because right now in the middle of it I am questioning, is this worth it!?"

I am a 22-year-old, healthy patient who had mild symptoms due to the bacteria. I didn't have negative effects until I hit day 5-6, they aren't that bad (dark stool, reduced hunger, and coppery taste) during the day, but after 9 pm, they get way worse. The worst for me is the nausea since the headaches are quite mild and the tiredness is not that bad, but the nausea is horrible to the point that I had to take an antiemetic. Only 2.5 days to go, good luck to all the people unlucky enough to have side effects!!"

My side effects during treatment included nausea and fatigue, as well as a strange taste in my mouth. Other side effects after treatment included black stool, fatigue, and brain fog. My strength is still weak, and I took days off too. Do not worry about taking this medication, side effects differ from one person to another. Make sure you drink plenty of water."

After reading others' experiences, I am on day 9, one more day to go. I was about to quit on the 5th day, then I found other people's reviews who experienced the same side effects. My side effects were terrible starting day 2 till the 7th day. I had nausea, vomiting, dizziness, loss of appetite, and headache, plus stomach acid before bowel movements. On day 9, still loss of appetite and nausea, but less from all other side effects. I used Nexium twice a day plus Pylera. Will update after a few weeks with the end result. But without a doubt, a very hard drug and a bad experience going through the 120 pills of Pylera."

I was unlucky to catch the flu the day I started the treatment, so I am drained and tired. Day 1 to 3 was okay except black stool and had a little bit of stomach ache, but from day 4 until 7, I felt tiredness, nausea felt once or twice, a horrible metal taste in my mouth, occasional abdominal pain, and sometimes dizziness. Day 8 to 10 is just fine except for the bad taste. Guys, if I could do it, you could do it. What I did - drank a lot of water at regular intervals, took light meals, do not, and yes, do not take sugary items (I did once, and that day, the stomach ache was horrible), kept the same time for medicine, had 2 bananas daily. Medicine after the meal with omeprazole. Now I have to wait 8 weeks before the stool test, hope it’s gone. But from tomorrow, no capsules."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I'm on day 11 of 14, and damn, it's a disaster. Constant nausea, lightheadedness, fatigue, crushing headache. No appetite. Feels like I can't eat because I'm nauseous, and I'm nauseous because I can't eat. I've been self-force feeding myself crackers. Couldn't keep it in a few times after taking meds, but I've been better since. Hopefully it won't void the treatment. I've been missing work the past couple of days and will likely miss more. Bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Am on day 5 of the 10-day regimen. I've had H. pylori for over 3 years now. Tried Prev pack and other therapies, didn't work. On the meds, some of the symptoms others were having, though no throwing up. Mainly feeling very tired and nauseated. Am a gym rat, so I just haven't been able to lift and use the Stairmaster as in prior to the treatment. But still manage 1.5 hours of gym time daily at reduced intensity. Bloating has significantly reduced since I started the meds. Sleepiness, though I manage like 5.5 to 6.5 hours per night. No issues of insomnia. I think the key is eating each time before the med, then drinking lots of water. My side effects reduced with drinking lots of water after each dose. I really pray this works. I was asking the doctor for back-to-back 10-day regimens, but he said not advisable. Good luck, y'all!!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "My experience with this medication was a wicked one right off the bat with having to take 3 pills 4 times a day and no dairy products. Day one: was OK, but day two: my mouth tasted like metal. Day three: I had 2 sores in my mouth, after that, I was fine until day seven. I didn't have enough water in my body and became dehydrated and got so sick, nauseated. What helped was to stay hydrated and drink 8 oz of water with each dose, and at my bedtime dose, I had a banana as well. It helped a lot, it is a rough regimen to follow, especially with all the pills. Not to mention, you do need a full meal with every dose because it's very aggressive to the infection. It also removed enamel off my teeth. It worked, I took a breath test, I'm cured."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "The medicine was not what I thought it would be. It kept me feeling sick all day. My last 5 days were the worst days for me. My urine was super dark, stool was very dark, and I felt like I wanted to throw up every day. I was so glad to finish my last dose it wasn't funny. When I finished taking the medicine, I had a bad taste in my mouth, and I no longer had the taste for soda. Every soda is nasty now, so I drink water now. I want to know if the medicine worked until I do my next check-up with the doctor. Prior to taking the meds, I constantly had gas and heartburn on a regular basis. Currently, I haven't had these symptoms as of yet."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Taken for H. pylori and giardia infection, I was prescribed tetracycline 4x daily, metronidazole 3x daily, + omeprazole, a 14-day course. I'm on day 10, and it's brutal. Side effects are constant nausea, anxiety, body aches, and insomnia. The anxiety seems to be worse when I take the tetracycline, especially at night with heartburn. Have to spread the meds out a few hours apart since the tetra needs to be taken on an empty stomach. There's a constant bitter taste in my mouth, and no foods sound appetizing. Cold liquids make the bitter taste much worse, so avoid ice drinks. I've had dark foamy urine and diarrhea, but the rumbling gas and stomach pains I had before treatment are decreased. It honestly feels like you're poisoning yourself, but stick with it and read reviews to know it's not abnormal. Added a spore probiotic and a Sboullardi taken 2 hours apart from meds so yeast won't multiply from the antibiotics."
