For Constipation "I took two tablets at 9:30 pm, by 12:30 am, I was in horrible pain, had stomach cramps and nausea. I was seated on the toilet with a plastic bag ready in case I vomited. I started to sweat profusely, shaking, and almost passed out. I called for my husband, but my voice was very faint because I did not have any strength left from the extreme pain that I was experiencing. I thought I was going to end up in the emergency room. It is a good thing I had something to lean on, or I would have ended sprawled on the bathroom floor. I am going to throw away the rest of the medication. No way I will take it again."

For Constipation "Wow. I took two pills around 6:00 PM before dinner. Around midnight, I woke up with a burning feeling in my intestines. I figured the medicine was working and sat on the toilet. I haven't pooped this much in a long time. After relieving myself of days' worth of poop, I immediately felt sick to my stomach. I returned to the bathroom, where I began to throw up and have diarrhea. I went back to bed and woke up around 6:00 AM with more diarrhea. I'm really starting to consider using other medication that doesn't make me so sick."

For Constipation "First-time user. Bought Dulcolax and then came on to read reviews and was terrified. I was basically unable to sleep because of other users' accounts of stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea and had resigned myself to the worst night of my life. I am happy to say that I had a positive experience with this medicine. Took 2 tablets around 6:45 p.m. with a 16 oz. bottle of water and drank 2 more 16 oz. bottles subsequently. Around 10 p.m. started to get gurgles in my stomach, but no pain or nausea. Around 3 a.m. I did experience some cramps, but they were manageable and not too intense. Lasted around 15 minutes and then I felt the urge to go. Passed stool easily within the next 15 minutes."

For Constipation "I don't know where to begin. Yes, it was very effective, but I don't know if it's worth going through the traumatizing process. I only took 2 tablets at 11 pm because I got home pretty late. Around 3 am, I woke up from insane pain and burning in my stomach. It was so bad, the only way I can really express what I feel is by saying it hurt so bad I wanted to die. I was running to the bathroom because the pain caused nausea. I still couldn't go, so I just went back to sleep. I woke up 2 hours later from extreme cramps, I was able to go to the bathroom, but let's just say it was not pretty, and I was really sure I was going to die. So yes, very effective, but not something I will ever do again."

For Constipation "At first, I thought since 1 pill was for kids, I guess I'll take 3 pills since I've always had problems with constipation. WORST MISTAKE EVER! I took these 3 horrid pills at 2 a.m. thinking they would work overnight. Here I am at 12:25 p.m. with extreme nausea & vomiting my guts out & major diarrhea. My stomach feels like I'm going into labor. These cramps are just too unbearable. I shouldn't have taken 3. I took 1 too many and now I'm learning my lesson the hard way."

For Constipation "Was constipated for 12 days. Have used the pills in the past with no help. Only all the above horrid symptoms. The trick is to use the liquid kind. It’s way more effective and doesn’t cause the cramps or nausea. You’ll thank me later."

For Bowel Preparation "Had a colonoscopy this AM (9 Apr 2018). Prep began on Sunday morning. This is my second, first 16 years ago. I don't remember anything bad about the first, except for that nasty-tasting laxative. I read the post about Dulcolax and almost threw them away. Who would know, right? But I thought I had taken them the first time. Sooo, I have always drank LOTS of water, still do. 2 gallons a day is not unusual. Several posts suggested that those who had pain did not drink enough liquids before and after. I took a chance. Copious amounts of liquids Sunday AM. Peed every 20 min or so, not just a little, full bladder each time. At 1 PM, 4 Dulcolax as directed. (I'm only just 200 lbs.) Lots of Gatorade, white grape juice, and 7Up followed. Still peed a river every half hour or less. First BM at 3, soft and easy. It's almost 9 AM, time for the fun, and I'm about to mess the bed. Nurse says the doctor will take care of it, and off we go. The scope went like a charm, talked to the Doc, and back home. In bed, couldn't make it to the toilet. Back in my man diaper waiting for my bowels to become stable. Now, as for nausea and cramping. At 10 PM Sunday, I had a very, very mild case of both. But I was very hungry. Chicken broth and jello later, and it went away. Was that from the Dulcolax? Don't know, not an issue. But I'm pretty sure that some of the yuk drink is still in me. My advice: drink, drink, drink before, during, and after Dulcolax, but then that's what the instructions said."

For Constipation "I give it a 2 because I was no longer constipated within a few hours after taking it, but the stomach pains, as many have posted, are excruciating when the box says relief is 'gentle,' and I specifically bought the pink one for sensitive stomachs. I have not yet had a child, but it is what I imagine giving birth feels like. I have been doubled up since yesterday because of the pain in my stomach and severe nausea that makes me feel like I am going to throw up at any minute. I am not getting relief from the pain after bowel movements and have been sobbing because of the pain to the point that my boyfriend wanted to take me to the ER. I am trying to stay hydrated with lots of water like others have suggested, but it is difficult with my stomach."

For Constipation "This medicine is horrible. I took 3 for constipation at about 5 pm. 3 hours later, I started to feel stomach cramps but no bowel motion (BM). At 10 pm, the constant trips to the commode started. 1 hour after that, debilitating stomach cramps increased, nausea with the constant urge to vomit, and sweats started. I was lying on the bathroom floor in a fetal position praying to Jesus to make it stop. I eventually got the explosive diarrhea that didn’t stop for hours. It relieved my cramping some but not completely. I’m never buying this poison ever again."

For Bowel Preparation "My prep instructions for my colonoscopy and esophagus scope said to take 4 Dulcolax pills at 9:00 am, the day before the procedure. One hour later I start being nauseous, sweating, hot, cold, stomach cramps, runs, and a sore butt. The nightmare begins! I start BLASTING! Bright sunny yellow runs out of my butt non-stop. SUPER bad stomach cramps! This is before even drinking the 64 oz of the Gatorade and Miralax. At 6:00 pm I start drinking the Gatorade and Miralax mixture. It took 30 minutes for the volcano to really BLOW TONS! I couldn't get off the toilet for over 45 minutes the first three times! Every time I thought I was done, it started up AGAIN! I’ve been up all night, with BAD cramps, exploding and a raw butt! It's been 6 hours since I drank the mixture. It's NOT letting up! I'm going every 20 minutes. My BEST FRIEND is butt cream! I'm afraid to go to bed, that I might not make it in time to the bathroom. This is worse than food poisoning or the worst flu! I HOPE it stops soon! Never again!!!!"

For Constipation "My Experience: I was extremely constipated for about 5 days, I felt the urge to go, but I just couldn't. I took ONE tablet of the Dulcolax for Women around 6:30 pm with a full glass of water, and I continued to drink about 40-50 oz of water until bedtime (I drink about 80 oz of water daily, so I drank about 40 extra oz that day). I didn't get the sweats, nausea, or cramping that night, and it didn't wake me up in the middle of the night. I woke up at 6 am, and I did get SOME cramping, it felt the same as trapped gas pain, but nothing overly unbearable. I had a bowel movement after about 20 mins, and I felt GREAT. I had loose stool afterwards but no pain or cramping. I avoided starch and breads for the day for extra measure. I loved this product!"

For Constipation "My 8th day without a BM today, so after leaving work early this morning, as struggling with a horrid cough and cold, I thought I’d take advantage of not being able to go anywhere and decided to take 2 Dulcolax. This was at midday. By 19:47, to be precise, I was in a little pain from cramps but finally had my first sense of relief, and my goodness, it felt great. Just like they say, “gentle relief,” and I instantly felt great. Back to bed I went with my box of tissues for my cold! Then, less than 10 minutes later, I was doubled over in absolute agony and feeling nauseous. I was then stuck on the toilet for around 25 minutes, wondering if I was going to throw up whilst not being able to sit up properly due to the pain but having to so as not to poop up the walls. Definitely not gentle, the pain is the worst I’ve ever experienced, and I do not recommend it to my worst enemy!"

For Constipation "I only take Dulcolax when I’m severely constipated (6 or more days usually). Their tiny, orange appearance might come off as harmless, but boy do they get you. I took two around 9 p.m. (bedtime), and I wake up at 3 a.m. in unbearable pain and agony. I’ll have intense cramps and nausea for about an hour before I have my first (of many to come) BMs. The last time I took Dulcolax, I actually was vomiting and dry heaving the entire night and ended up in a fetal position on the bathroom floor. Once I have my first BM though, the cramping improves and it’s mostly smooth sailing from there. It definitely empties you out. I only take Dulcolax in extreme cases, and even then is it rarely worth it. Of course, everybody’s experience will differ."

For Bowel Preparation "I did the same, took it as prescribed, then read reviews afterwards. I was so freaked out by others' experiences with this drug that the anxiety was the WORST part of the night. I took it at 7 pm, then had a rumbling tummy at about 3 am, had my first and only 'cleanse.' Went back to bed and woke up fine at 7 am. I did drink LOTS of water (probably 3 liters) because I was so scared of dehydrating and possibly feeling 'on the brink of death,' as some have put it...don't know if this was my savior. It was accompanied by mild nausea, but just meant my hubby had to do the cleaning and put the kids to bed...haha!"

For Constipation "Wow. It certainly does what it says on the tin. Had to buy this medication on my holiday, I took 2 x 5 mg tablets before bed. Big mistake. I woke at 4:20 a.m., and my poop was like hot lava. Runs until 5:10 a.m. without an end in sight. I was actually woke with the most extreme stomach cramps and nausea that I’ve ever experienced. I don’t think I have ever felt as ill due to those tablets. They did what they said, though. I am no longer constipated, and I’m about 10 stone lighter. It’s now 11:20 a.m., and even a few sips of water are running straight through me. I’m still experiencing extreme runs of skitter, but at least the cramps have stopped, and at least I’m not constipated anymore."

For Constipation "I had mild constipation and took 2 Dulcolax pills at about 8 p.m. The normal dose for children and adults is 1-3 tablets. I woke up at 10:30 p.m. with severe burning and cramps in my stomach. I also felt very nauseous. I had to get out of bed and run back and forth to the bathroom for 3 hours with severe abdominal pain and cramping. By 1:30 a.m., I was able to sleep but still uncomfortable. It is about 8:00 a.m. now, and I just took Imodium to stop the diarrhea. I will never take this drug again and certainly would advise against giving it to small adults or children."

For Constipation "I got this because I have on-and-off constipation that hurts so bad my pelvis hurts. I would’ve taken my constipation over the pain this medicine caused. I took it before bed. I woke up multiple times in some of the worst pain of my life. Felt nauseous, like I was going to throw up. Had to get to the toilet to still not go the first time. But most intense cramping of my life. I was seriously thinking about waking my boyfriend up to take me to the ER, but I don’t think I could even make the ride there with as much pain I was in. I got back in bed, had more extreme pain, and sat on the toilet again and finally went. Had more pain but went back to bed. Then more pain and went back to the bathroom. Almost passed out from the pain and could barely make it to the toilet. Finally did and went again and was still in pain. Stay away from this product. Or use at your own risk. I thought I was the only one until I came here and read these reviews."

For Constipation "It only took 3 hours to start working. I was suddenly hit with what felt like strong, sharp, searing gas pains in my upper stomach. So much that I was hunched over and howling. I felt sweaty and nauseated. The pain lasted about 30-45 mins. I did have bowel movements as well. It has now been about five hours later, and I am still going to the bathroom. Stomach feels very sore, and I feel somewhat exhausted and just run down. I would not recommend this nor take it again for constipation. I am a normal 32-year-old female."

For Constipation "I thought I'd share my experience with Dulcolax. My constipation lasted over a week. I had tried every natural remedy in the book and nothing worked. I felt like my whole insides were blocked but I couldn't release. The cramps and nausea just got unbearable until I was told about Dulcolax. I took 2 tablets at 9 pm, an hour before I went to bed. I drank a full pint glass of water in that hour before going to bed. I was asleep for a good 7 hours before I was awoken with excruciating cramping in both abdomen and lower back. I tried to go to the toilet but nothing came. I drank half a glass of water and fell back down in the foetal position in bed which did help with the cramping. By half past 6, I had to dive out of bed and hot foot it to the bathroom. It felt like my whole intestines had fallen out of me. But after sitting on the toilet for about 20 minutes, I felt so much better. I had a few extra bouts of diarrhea throughout the day, but all I can say is Dulcolax is."

For Bowel Preparation "I was preparing for a colonoscopy at 9 am the next day. I took 4 tablets of Dulcolax 5 mg at 6 pm the day before as instructed, along with 4 liters of polyethylene glycol solution. I didn’t feel anything from the drug at first. I had watery diarrhea throughout the night, but there was no pain. I thought I was done with the prep before I went to bed. It turned out I was too naive. I woke up at around 1:30 am with EXTREME cramping in my abdomen and also nausea (right now, when I’m writing this review). The only thought I’m having right now is that I’m so grateful for my mom. I can now feel what she’s been through when she gave birth to me. I can’t wait for the procedure to happen in the morning. Hope the anesthesia will bring the end to all this!"

For Constipation "It makes you go, that's for sure. Took one before bed and got up to give my baby a bottle at 4:30 a.m., gave him his bottle, but when I was putting him back into his cot, I felt sudden sharp cramping, and I knew I had to run to the bathroom. Had violent diarrhea and intense cold sweating. I started feeling nauseous and extreme abdominal pain, so bad that I woke up on the floor covered in sweat. I don't know how long I passed out for, but I was so confused when I woke, the pain was gone. I passed out because my body couldn't handle that level of pain. I've had two children and didn't pass out. This stuff is unbelievable."

For Constipation "This is my 2nd time taking this pill. The 1st time I was pretty oblivious to taking this laxative and took 3. Worst mistake ever. I was nauseous, painful cramping, dizzy, clammy, and nightmarish diarrhea. I remembered it lasted for a few days and traumatized me. This time I've tried everything to get a bowel motion and nothing was working (plus it was the only laxative I had at the time), so I took 1 pill at about 9:30 am. I've been chugging water and I had my first movement 3 hours after taking it and then started having slight cramps, clamminess, diarrhea, and dizziness at 6 pm. Still a lot better than last time and I think part of that is the dosage and drinking a lot of water. Hopefully, it doesn't get worse as the night goes on. Still, don't take this unless you're desperate."

For Bowel Preparation "Decided to take Dulcolax in order to cleanse after a frisky weekend of unjudicious eating. Took one lil pill after 11:30 pm and crawled into bed. It is 2:30 am, and I have particularly terrible stomach cramps. Right below my esophagus. Right in the trapper. Got up once to see if gravity would help me move the sludge along, but I just got nauseous and sat on the toilet long enough to realize that I wanted to be back in bed again. I swiped a water bottle from the fridge and a pack of Saltine crackers from the pantry on my hunched waddle back to the bedroom. As I lay there in an extra sad version of the fetal position, I read some of the reviews on this website. As a second-time user of the stuff, I must confirm the rumors. But Saltines help."

For Constipation "I had been constipated for about five days and took two pills before bed. I advise against that many. The cramps from the laxatives pulling the water from your stomach to your intestines are bad. It's not excruciating, but it's not fun either, and I did get a little nauseated. I woke up in the morning with diarrhea. I only had to go twice that whole day, and they were in close time ranges with each other. I recommend just taking one to see how it affects you and then go from there. Either way, you'll get relief."
