Atomoxetine for ADHD "28-year-old female. I have both positive and negative effects. I have been on Strattera for six weeks. Side effects: constipation, dry mouth, anger, and terrible insomnia. I cannot sleep even after taking zoplicone 7.5 mg. I struggle, and when I eventually do get to sleep, I don't sleep for more than 5 hours, and it's always broken. I wake up several times, so I am always left feeling exhausted. My mood swings, however, have massively improved, pretty much stopped, which I'm very happy about. The only complaint with my mood is that I seem to become very angry over little things. I have had several arguments when I have always suffered from anxiety, so I am not confrontational at all. I am not happy and going to consult my psychiatrist regarding changing meds."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "Unfortunately, stimulants were ineffective for me as they didn't help improve focus, energy, or motivation (i.e., help me with impulse control, procrastination, or depression). Strattera helped quite a lot with focus, but nothing else. I started with 25 mg and gradually increased through 1 x 40 mg, 1 x 60 mg, and finally 2 x 40 mg. I think the split dose of 2 x 40 mg (one first thing, one late afternoon) was most effective. I chose to get my 80 mg that way, as with each dose increase, the side effects increased. I experienced pretty depressed moods first thing each day and had additional anger issues at times, but the biggest one was feeling cold all the time in my hands and feet. This, to my mind, the pretty nasty side effects coupled with the fact Strattera only helped with focus means I'm coming off of it. I'll assess how ADHD symptoms are when they inevitably return before deciding what to do next. Might push to see what adding Guanfacine into the mix with Strattera would be like..."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "After being diagnosed with ADD, the psychotherapist recommended this, and my doctor prescribed it. I had never taken a drug like this, so I wanted to really give it a chance. I took it for a month, and it made me crazy. I was angry, took a quick dislike to people I love, wanted to quit my job, etc. It was like a war zone in my mind. I went back, and the doctor explained if you do not need Strattera and don't take it, there can be an opposite effect. Stopped it, and in 2 days, felt normal again and was prescribed a different drug. I'm sure it is for some people, but not me."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I started giving this medication to my 7 years old. We started with 18 mg, 25 mg, and now 40 mg. No change in his behavior yet at 40 mg. It has only been 2 weeks that he has been taking it, but one thing is he is more aggressive, crying a lot. But I am going to continue for 2 more weeks to see if there are any changes. After that, definitely I will call the doctor to change this medication."

For ADHD "Anon again. First of all, don't let my review scare you. I had experienced horrible side effects from other drugs in the past, and compared to them, atomoxetine is a piece of cake! Just wanted to add that atomoxetine is making me more depressed than usual, and I'm having a little bit of suicidal thoughts, and I'm a little angry or serious. On the other hand, my anxiety level has been very low!! I think I'm also experiencing constipation and difficulty urinating. At first, when you take the drug, you experience frequent urination, but after a few hours at night, you just feel like you aren't urinating enough. Also, I feel like my astigmatism got worse, maybe my eyes are getting too dry because of all the water loss."

For ADHD "I took atomoxetine for about two months, and the only changes I noticed were: very high blood pressure readings for the whole time I was taking it (I usually have low to normal blood pressure, and the readings I was getting were in the 130-150s), extremely tiredness, I took naps all day. I felt angry fairly often. I did take a Teva generic, so maybe that plays something into it, but seeing as many people here who don’t respond to this drug have similar experiences, I doubt the generic made any real difference. If stimulants don’t work for you, then try it, but I don’t think this drug has very much of a success rate."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I went on Strattera doing high school upgrades as a mature student and not being keen on stimulants. Doing trade work, I found meds unnecessary as the physicality helped mitigate my ADHD. I slowly went up from the lowest dose to 80 mg. I stayed there for two months and then went to 100 mg. What a disaster. Up to 80 mg, I experienced minor irritability, fatigue, and low mood, but all quite manageable. Within a week of 100 mg, my sanity was wrecked. Irrational hostility, aggression, disorientation, crippling fatigue, confusion, and mood swings. At my lowest point, I was nonfunctional. I had to drop one of my distance courses and may miss my program deadline. I avoided stimulants as I was worried about insomnia. Big mistake. Doctors tell me it'll take a month to wean me off this stuff. YMMV, but if you don't have serious addiction issues, heart problems, or another stimulant contraindication, I suggest avoiding Strattera as a first choice."
