For Sinusitis "It's working, but I am quitting. I was told by the doctor that the clavulanate could trigger gastrointestinal side effects. Should have been my first clue. I have IBS, and I'm emetophobic. I took my 5th pill (of 14), and within 15-20 minutes, I was in agony. I had diarrhea the morning before, but wrote it off on the IBS. It should have been a warning. Crippling stomach pain, gas, massive headache, and more diarrhea. Had an anxiety attack and had to take a Xanax. Calling my doc in the morning to get off of it. And yes, I was taking the pills with food, probiotics, etc. They didn't help me."

For Bacterial Infection "I was given this antibiotic for a mildly infected medium-sized perianal abscess after it was drained. The dosage was 2 tablets a day for 5 days. The day after taking it, I had explosive diarrhea, which has continued well after I have completed the course. I have had diarrhea and abdominal pain for 7 days now, and it's been 2.5 days since I took my last tablet. I have had hardly any energy and haven't been able to go out properly to the shops unless I try to time it. The diarrhea comes out of nowhere with hardly any warning. If I'm not better in the next day, I'll be going to emergency. Haven't felt this rotten in a long time and helpless. Will not be taking this antibiotic again as I obviously have some sort of allergy. Feels like it has shredded my insides out and even had some blood in it. It's given me anxiety, and my body has been aching the last 4 days."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed Augmentin (500/125 three times a day for 10 days) by my dentist for a tooth infection. The first day wasn’t so bad, but by the second day, I could feel anxiety and nausea creeping in. On the third day, I had a strong headache and stomach pain with loose stools, although I never vomited. Over the next couple of days, my blood pressure spiked significantly, I had a difficult time sleeping, and I felt very anxious along with the other above-mentioned symptoms. The good news is that my tooth, jaw, and ear pain went away, caused by the tooth infection. On day 7, I called my dentist and explained my side effects to him, and he advised that I go off the medicine. I have never had any severe reactions to any antibiotics in the past. Well, at least for me, this stuff is bad in my opinion. I don’t plan on taking it again, although it did help my infection go away."

For Skin and Structure Infection "Got bit by a friendly, feral cat that thought my finger was food (I stupidly fed it from my hand). Now, I have cats that I play with, and they play bite/scratch me all the time. This time, though, was a puncture bite. Blood was dripping from my index finger. At first, I thought, I’ll be fine. So I went to work with caution not to use that hand. My mammy also insisted I’d be okay. But something told me this was not going to be okay as the pain and redness/swelling started to kick in less than 24 hours. Any bump or nudge that I touched hurt like anything. So I went to urgent care, and they prescribed me this. It’s been 2 days, and so far, I can almost feel my finger again. Still painful and swollen. I had my first bout of diarrhea today, and I have more anxiety than usual. I want to say possibly the disruption of good flora/microbes that have been gotten rid of is the source of this. I’m also eating yogurt and some probiotic/prebiotic enriched foods while taking this medication."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "In the past 3-4 years, I’ve had reoccurring sinus infections. I’ve taken Augmentin XR years ago, for several years with no side effects aside from fatigue. This year, I was prescribed Keflex a lot, and it was so much better, no issues. I’ve had a sinus infection on 11/23, and the doctor prescribed Augmentin XR, but the side effects are so bad! From gastrointestinal issues and mentally feeling off. Depression, anxiety severe, by 11/26 I can’t leave the house. No focus, and I have to go to the clinic, I’m miserable and just want Keflex!"

I took Augmentin for 20 days and then extended the course to ward off infection from another cold I caught while on it. It caused extreme agitation, unwanted thoughts, tension, fear, and anxiety. By day 20, I was losing my mind. It took two weeks to connect my mental state to the antibiotics, but I kept taking them in fear of the persistent infection returning. I won’t take it again. That feeling is the worst, and I believe the stress of it all caused my back to go out 2 days after stopping. It cured my infection. My stomach was fine. I took probiotics and kefir every day and continue to do so weeks later."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Had what an ER doc thought was an ear infection back in December. Left ear was inflamed, took antibiotics, and I guess it got better, I wouldn't know since there was no pain associated. January, I developed weird ringing in my left, same ear. Ignored it. Now, beginning of March, I started getting popping in that ear, which spread to my right ear, basically the sensation of de-equalized pressure, which is so irritating. Decided to go to the ER just 5 days ago. ER doc looked into my ears and said I had ear effusion, then looked into my throat and sinuses and said they were inflamed. I was born with sinusitis, so my turbinates are naturally enlarged, but I wasn't experiencing any signs of sinus infection (no weird or smelly mucus, or even terrible breathing from the weather change). She prescribed me this Augmentin with Mucinex, and to use a neti pot every day with Flonase. Never experienced this much stress, anxiety, and body aches before. I'm a 23-year-old health nut, so my body is quite healthy."

For Bacterial Infection "Never again, simple as that, no, I’m not a bot. I was only on it for 24 hours, and oh boy, I had nausea that came and went. Sometimes, it felt like I needed to throw up. I have the worst imaginable anxiety, I mean, my anxiety is never this bad, and I haven’t had an anxiety attack in years! And this may just be in my case because I may be allergic or something to one of the ingredients, but I did have a lot of trouble breathing on my first and second dosage. Personally, I don’t recommend it, especially if you have a history of anxiety. Definitely ask your doctor for something else. I feel so anxious and jittery, I literally cannot do anything. Hopefully, this helps someone."

For Skin and Structure Infection "I was prescribed this medication to prevent an infection after a root canal. My dose was 825 mg, I believe, twice a day. Took the first dose but crushed it into apple juice because the pills are huge and I have anxiety about swallowing pills. An hour later, I was holding back from vomiting. I blamed it on crushing it up and also doing so on an empty stomach, so I took my second dose that night, and an hour later, I started to feel dizzy. So I started looking up reviews and saw a lot of people saying it caused them panic attacks and anxiety, which I already deal with on a daily basis, so the next day I called my dentist, and they switched me to regular amoxicillin, which I've never had any issues with. I thought this was the same as amoxicillin, or else I would have never taken it. I am the kind of person who reads up about everything. When I get medicines, I'm looking up all the side effects and stuff. Definitely would never take this stuff again. I've never had any side effects from anything else."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed Amoxicillin-Clav. Worst reaction I've ever had. Sore face, jaw, and teeth. Horrible.. and I mean horrible diarrhea, bloating, nausea, and anxiousness. I took 5 pills and stopped them. Called the clinic and got different meds and feel much better. I will never take this again. Side effects are severe and alarming."

For Bacterial Infection "Tomorrow’s my last day on these pills. Went looking for some reassurance online for the immense brain fog and incredible tiredness. Looks like I’m not the only one. Fever and chills are gone, so it must’ve worked. Didn’t know I was supposed to eat before taking in order to prevent bad symptoms & probiotics. Drinking some yogurt now. In any case, bad side effects for me were the incredible brain fog, like I’ve never experienced. Thank goodness I’m not working, because that would have been impossible. And a couple bouts of increased anxiety. Take care!"

For Sinusitis "I have a sinus infection, and I saw the doctor yesterday, and he gave this amoxicillin/clavulanate medicine to take. I took my first pill with dinner, and I woke up at night violently throwing up. Today, the next day, I feel anxiety like you would not believe, and I'm still sick to my stomach. I called off work. My sinus infection is so bad that I'm debating whether or not to take a second dose."

For Sinusitis "Worst ever medicine. Do not take it, I repeat, DO NOT. I took a dose for 2 days. Been through a nightmare: heavy heartbeat, breathing issues, anxiety, panic attack, head, jaw, neck, nose pressure was worst. I was on a dose of 875*125mg. Worst one ever. I lost my appetite."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Urinary Tract Infection "I don't want to scare anyone away from taking this drug, but I have to be honest - Augmentin really sucked. I was prescribed it for a stubborn UTI after a 3-day course of Bactrim didn't do the job. I didn't notice many side effects (other than tiredness) at first, but by day 2, this drug had me feeling noticeably 'off', anxious, and irritable. This only worsened, and by day 4, I was feeling a constant cloud of stress and tension throughout my body that wouldn't go away. I felt extremely apathetic towards everyone around me, yet I also felt indescribably terrified that I was losing my sense of self because I felt so 'different' cognitively. The way I spoke, the way I typed, the way I thought through things - it changed, and being aware of that made it even scarier. It got so bad on day 4 that I got in a massive fight with my partner, which is completely out of character for me. It seems to have taken care of the UTI, but dear God, I never want to be on this antibiotic again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Kidney Infections "I was prescribed Augmentin for a severe double kidney infection. Although, I took a second dose way before I was due to have it, in fact about 2 hours after the first dose, due to the fact and my reasoning to get on top of this infection. The first dose was no problems, I couldn't even tell that I had taken it. The second dose, within ten minutes, I had the worst anxiety I have ever experienced, as well as a panic attack with heart palpitations, chest pain and tightness, and the general feeling I was suddenly at the end of my life. I had the phone in one hand getting ready to call 911 with the reasoning to myself that I could have mere moments left to be able to even make the call and the other hand trying to keep my balance as I had severe shaking and muscle twitching and the sense I had little control over my own body. Never again, I would rather take my chances against the double kidney infection."
